Morning.  60 degrees and starting to rain.  Been lazy this AM.  Watched the rest of Downton Abbey and some hunting DVR'd.  Now to get ready and go to Town Hall for a few.  Got Town Board tonight.  Box work during the "off" time today.  Got to get rental cars set up for the next two weekends.  Concord Mills [Charlotte] Bass Pro this weekend.  Ft. Laurderdale Bass Pro next Friday thru Sunday afternoon.  Dread the flight to and back from Ft. Laurderdale.  Seems some will be on Spring Break.  Fly with a bunch of drunk college kids. Bang Head

I guess the scarf Chuck gave Buckeye is this one.

Kev, enjoy your Yankee weather. Laugh  I think Mr. Jon is in for it too.

Good morning all,

Happy birthday (again) Buckeye[Happy B-Day Is this the real one?

Jeffrey, the 90 HP motor makes sense after your explanation.  You can always use less of it's power but you can't use more on a smaller motor if you don't have it.

Chief, where do you get all that energy for traveling?  I know it's not from grits.

Gray skies this morning and rain on the way.  Getting colder too with snow levels down to 2000 ft by tomorrow.  The foothills just above us are probably between 1500 and 2000 ft.  Might see some snow up there.

later,

Ray

Got the appointment and the needle sticking done. Had to get my vitamin D level checked. I've been on Vitamin D gel caps for about two months so hopefully it's up to a good level. When they checked before it was at 13 which is seriously deficient, supposed to be around 50-100.

Good afternoon all,

It is cold in SE Indiana with temps in the teens.  Ryan, you have over 400 channels and nothing to warch?  I am sure there must be a soccer channel or two in there somewhere.  Even if you tune in the middle of a game, I am sure you would be up to speed pretty quickly on what was going on.  Always check for the soccer channels.  No disappointments there guaranteed.  Good days at work both days and did not have to drive today.  Happy Birthday, Buckeye!  TBIL and I can drive.  I hope everyone has a good day.

Keep on training,

Raining here in Beautiful Bayville, NJ.

Cut and split about 3/4 of a chord before the rain. I between splitting wood I helped my neighbor put the serpentine belt back on his Ford Diesel Pickup. A squirrel decided it wanted to nest in there last night to keep warm for it is plugged in for the engine block warmer. He also decided to chew on the wiring and make a nest out of the hood insulation. He wont be doing this again. You can guess what happened when Curtis fired up that diesel.

Ryan, Kev, you can add our Chester with your cats on what they are doing today. Must be a cat holiday. Mack is right by her next to the fire.

Chief: They are supposed to be opening up a Bass Pro in Sayreville, NJ soon. Yeah right, They are still remediating the ground and water pollution. It is the old National Lead Site, aka, Dutch Boy Paint. I grew up not far from there.

Time to start getting ready for class.

Back from Williamsport, things are looking good with Penn Tech.

Placement test results are in. Tested at Level 4, which basically means that I am at college level math. However, because I didn't test at Level 7 (which is Calculus), and I'm looking to go into Civil Engineering, I'll need to take some courses before starting the Calculus course. It's not a bad thing since where I tested is where most people test, about 70%. Only a few people test at Level 7 (about 10%).

Under normal situations, this would mean that I would have to push the classes back by a year unless I take summer courses, but because of how the Civil Engineering course is set up, that won't be a problem. Lots of room in the eighth semester, and two open slots during the third and fourth semesters.

Well 45 this morning, 25 now with snow squalls.

Buckeye I hope you enjoyed this birthday as much as all the others. I left White Castle this morning and dropped some off at #2 sons work place. I hope his innards enjoyed them as much as I did. Big Smile, At 69 cents each they will become a luxury item though. Home made Chicken noodle soup for supper should help offset that bad for me breakfast. Banilla will be ready for the thingy crew...S.J.

Ohayō,

I ran out of time to post yesterday.  I had a pretty full day at work and too much schoolwork to do last night to ever get to it.  We actually had some snow around lunchtime yesterday.  It snowed for about two hours but the rain that came before it prevented any of the snow from accumulating.  It’s incredibly sunny today and a little warmer.

Fife – I’m not surprised you liked that one.

Doug – Me too.  I will definitely ride that train a few times before I leave here.  Nice work on Ivor.

Laz – It’s good to see you.  Thanks for the advice and I’m glad the layout work is keeping you busy.  I know it’s still some time away, but are there any train shows in the Schuylkill County area around Jun 7th, 8th, or 9th?  I’ll be in Shenandoah those days.  I’m not opposed to driving a couple of hours either.

Mike C. – I read an article in the Wall Street Journal over the weekend which highlighted recent research about “heading” a soccer ball.  Apparently the force it causes is equivalent to being punched with a fist, and the current safety headgear does nothing to reduce the impact.  This is even at the lowest levels of the sport.  I suspect your beloved soccer may soon face the same scrutiny football now receives.

BOC – I hope your doctor’s visit went well.

Happy Birthday Buckeye!

Sayonara,

Joe

Evenin' All.

Been kind of draggin' for a few days, you know the old adage: "10#'s of stuff in a 5# bag". Spent the early part of the day wrapped in a blanket, even though the thermostat was cranked up, trying to keep the hands and feet warm. Sometimes I think I could hold a scoop of icecream in my hands without melting it.

SJ, Sliders by WC are good anytime of day or nite. Dinner Sure wish we could get the real thing out here, not those frozen things.

Hello all

Another not so quiet night on the hill. The engineers got chased up the hill by the director and they brought my least favorite computer programmer w/ them.

We went through a power change to generator this morning (scheduled) and lost several power supplies due to the fact that my boss attached a lack of urgency to me notifying him of our UPS failure last Wed. (oh, and it failed 5 days earlier and nobody else noticedGrumpy). Getting ready for potentially 24" of snow up here tomorrow. The drive down may be somewhat entertaining.

Ryan - I work at a high frequency radio telescope that does astrochemistry looking for various molecules in astronomical objects. Shorter answer: I look for fuzzy green caterpillars in space (that's what most of the data looks like). Spent 50% of the last 11 years sitting on top of this mountain. It's definitely an unusual way to make a living.

Your cat reminds me of the one that adopted the house a couple months back. A couple weeks after I moved in this small kitten was basically dumped off at the house. The guys in my unit adopted it. This cat has no fear and is rather entertaining. I was trying to balance my checkbook last week and was continually being 'attacked'. He is quite the little ball of energy.

JimT - 3.73's might be a good compromise. This was a good fit in the 4WD's we used to drive that had an adequate amount of power. Decent mileage on the road, but still low enough in low range to do something with. A lot of newer 4WD's come w/ 3.54s for better economy, but tended to be a bit lacking in low range. 4.11's were only seen in stuff guys had set up for rock crawling or 4 cyl trucks that needed the lower gearing. The original jeeps had 5.38'sIndifferent About 45 mph and you hit redline. And on a lot of those older engines you didn't want to get anything close to that. Sorry to hear you may be parting ways w/ the Probe, but as you know they are not inexpensive cars to repair.

Not much accomplished on the train front this week. Too many people and things going on.

If I make it off the mountain today, talk to you guys from the Ol' Pueblo.

Other than catching up on some missing work from school and maybe some work tonight, not much going on. Will probably be a good while before I can get on again. Shouldn't have to go back down to Penn Tech for a little while.

Good morning all,

IIABSDISEI with temps in the teens.  Watched two episodes of MASH and a new episode of "The New Normal".  Ordered license plates online as well.  Daughter still in a lot of pain as she had staples taken out, but from what I heard that is fairly normal.  Playing soccer tonight.   Head issues are a concern among soccer people.  If the ball is headed properly, there is not as much impact as there is when kids bounce it off the top of their heads or the sides.  I would not object if they banned headers altogether.  What people fail to take into account is that ANY type of activity involves some sort of risk.  If you want to avoid any risk of any kind of injury, sit inertly in one place all your life.  Every time I step on the pitch, I know there is a risk of getting hurt, and I play accordingly.  When playing in my leagues and I see 3 or 4 younger, more athletic players jumping for a header, I back away and let the chips and bodies fall where they may.  I do play a little more aggressively during playoff matches, but again I remember I have to go to work the next day.  Enough soapbox.  TBIL after the soccer scrimmage tonight.  I hope everyone has a good day.

Keep on training,

Good morning. It's 43° with 69% humidity. The high will be 58°.

I really have to do some cleanup on the layout today. The clutter is taking over! There's stuff that has to be put away and other stuff that has to be put out as trash. Other than that I have no particular plans for today.

Aloha. 11 and sunny - about -3 with the breeze. Kinda brisk for Feb., but I'm not complaining. It's been a decent (read warmish) winter. The van wasn't happy but successfully cranked late last night after sitting outside 17 hours in single digit temps. Got a chance to read an Engineman's Handbook from the early 1920s on how to properly drive an engine on the ride home though. Yes

Mike C and Joe, our youth soccer league has 'banned' headers - basically, told the kids let the ball drop...
