RedfireS197
The whistle relay armature is likely magnetized and sticking to the core.  When I get one like that, I use a VHS tape eraser to demagnetize it.  If that isn't an option, a piece of masking tape placed between the armature and core should do.  Horizontal or vertical E-unit in the 2020?  That sounds more like dirty rollers or weak collector springs causing a momentary power loss and the E-unit to cycle.

I'll be sure to try that out tomorrow. Plenty of masking tape laying around my house. Same can be said for duct tape. Stick out tongue

The 2020 has a vertical E-unit. Will try cleaning the rollers to see if that is the cause. I think that some of the fingers in the E-unit may actually be bent a little bit after looking at them again. I decided not to monkey with them fearing that I may do more damage than good. Tongue Tied

Getting late. Should be heading up soon. Night everyone!

Good Evening Everyone! 19 and windy in Bayville, NJ.

Finally got around to servicing and repairing the log splitter today. For an 18 year old piece of equipment, it works great. Wait, second engine, replaced seal in pump, detent valve, hydraulic lines were replaced/repaired. No complaints for it gets a workout.

Kev: Lexi knows what she wants and you are not changing her mind. I would have a "spare Thomas". You never know.

Joe: Can't wait to see the Bullet Train Pictures.

Mike: Congrats to your Grandson.

SJ: Sump pump hose taken care of with the help of your son and Granny got to feed him and I will bet that that made her happy.

Rich: Good Luck with the divorce.

Brutus, Jim, I thought that I had my problem with Yahoo Messenger licked. Worked this morning, now it won't open. Missed the Tardis AGAIN!!!!!! Bang Head

SPMan, Ray, Good news about your friend with the stroke. Prayers.

Have a Great Evening!

Jeffrey,

Nice Boat!!!! I assume that it is aluminum. I am not familiar with that make. Reminds me of my 1967 Starcraft 16' runabout. It went about 35 nowhere as fast as your Mom's. Since my 26' Pacemaker Wahoo Center Console was damaged during Sandy, I still have my 18' Dixie Center Console. I can not wait for Fishing/Boating weather!

Sunny and mid 40's here today.  Supposed to be a winter storm coming through later this week.  Tonight's weather forecast has us in the ice section of the rain, ice, snow progression.  Goody, goody.

Donated this morning to work, then spent a couple hours at the KATY Depot museum helping dis-assemble and pack the Civil War exhibit so it can be shipped off to its next stop on the state wide tour.

I got the film developed that we tried taking pictures with the pin hole camera last week. The pictures are over exposed, but there are images on it.  For some reason, the negative scanner on my Canon flatbed scanner will ont calibrate, so I cannot scan the negatives.  I ended up setting up a  light table to back light the negatives and took pictures with my DSLR.  I then downloaded those images onto the computer to reverse the negatives into positives and start cleaning them up.  I think I introduced some more noise in the images with the light table I threw together, so I'll set something else up and try again.  I have to learn more about how to manipulate color balance for color prints, too.

Jim - think twice about going to 4.10 gears.  Yes, they will make the car feel more lively off the line, and they will reduce stress on the drive train, but at any given speed, you will be turning more RPM's in any gear, which does bad things to gas mileage and the general NVH of the vihicle.  If you have your heart set on changing gears, the 3.73's will be a whole lot more comefortable to live with.

Going the other way, I had a Chevy Monza years ago that had a 350 in it.  It was set up with 2.29 gears to meet the Californis CAFE requirements.  It was a slug off the line, but a whole different animal when I matted the gas pedal at a 30mph roll.  I never did find out how fast that car would go.  The TH350 shifted into high gear at about 85mph and still pulled hard.  The Monza was built on the Vega platform, so it was basically a 3500 pound Vega still with the itty bitty Vega brakes - not comforting when one is accelerating through 90!

All for now.

Hello all

Another night collecting photons. Not exactly quiet though, as we still have 5 astronomers running around. We had to close for high winds for a bit and I had to track down the problem with a bad power supply. Engineers come up w/ a new receiver tomorrow so the fun never ends. And we have up to a foot of snow predicted for Wed. when I try to go back home w/ my intermittant 4WD. Guess I'll keep the chains on.

Rich - glad to hear your divorce issues are nearly over and good news on the Roadrunner!

Jeffrey - nice boat! Looks like that engine can move it right along!

Jim/8N - when I was in school I used a friends '76 F100 as a field vehicle for a bit. Since they were trying to get better mileage in those days it had 3.00 gears in it. At some point my friend hot-rodded the 302 in it and dumped in a floor shifted 3-spd w/ overdrive. He calculated that it would do 140 before the engine hit redline in overdriveIndifferent Of course since it was a 20 year old truck from MI and NJ the fenders would have flown off way before then. Off road it was a nightmare. If you were rolling down a steep incline and let out the clutch in first the truck would speed up rather than slow down. I had to just leave it in neutral and just steer and brake on the way down from my research area. And for some unknown reason it was faster in reverse than 1st gearTongue Tied  The rusted out bed ended up as a dive spot for lobsters off the New Jersey coast. He made a homemade flatbed for it out of 2X4's using nails. I would often come across pieces of the bed on my return trip. We referred to it as the 'Millenium Falcon'.

Was too tried after my long day yesterday to either try out the waffle maker or run the new Marx boxcar. Maybe this morning.

All,

Here are the bullet train (shinkansen) photos.  It was a double-decker and hopefully I posted the photos in the proper order so you can see its approach to the station.  She said the bullet train went extremely fast and it blew by the other transit trains.

I also posted some photos from a snow festival my wife attended.  This part of Japan receives a great deal of snow and the sculptures are made from snow, not ice.  The last one is huge; hopefully you can tell from the amount of people in attendance and also the large screen monitor.

Mornin' boys.  Mornin' English.  A frigid 23 here in the Mid-Atlantic region.  It was much colder on Alleghany Mountain this weekend, as I visited Fifepup and my folks.  All were well, except for Dad with a back problem.  Did check out my property, and remembered to take down the realtor sign this time.  Hopefully, next year at this time the factory will be building wifey's dream home.

If you guys don't like this color, don't watch any NASCAR shows this week.  It IS the "DANICA 500".  All Danica; ALL the time. Dead

LawsonFarms - Too early to pick anyone as a favorite.  Whichever team "figures" out the Gen-6 car first.  The Chevy SS is ugly.  The 29 seems to have figured out the Super Speedway package.  The 20 had the best car at the Shoot Out.

Fifey will be cheering for the 21.

Good morning all,

It is cloudy but mild in SE Indiana with temps near 50 today.  Fifedog, you are so correct.  You could not give her back to us.  As of now, we have only one full time lady driver with the "Swiss Miss", but we could have some more at some point.  I think Simona will win a race before the Princess does, and I think Milka Duno could win in ARCA before the Princess does as well.  That would really frost her.  I do not mind discussing other sports (especially when it comes to the grandkids) as they are all good conditioning exercises for soccer.  TBIL and I left the keys in the seat from last night.  I hope everyone has a good day.

Keep on training,

Yes, it's all aluminum construction with riveted seams. It's original top speed was about 40 mph with a 65hp motor. That went up to 45mph when a 75hp Evinrude V4 was put on. It now has an Evinrude 90hp V4 w/electronic ignition and tops out at 54 mph but is unstable above 49 mph. It wasn't designed for that much power. A down side to having a motor that heavy is that the tongue of the trailer has to be weighed down with concrete blocks to keep the tongue of the trailer down. Look at the photos and you'll see only one such block and the trailer is reaching for the sky.Blindfold

Good morning, 40 Degrees out there now, going up to 50, then rain and dropping to 17 tonight. No wonder everyone is sick.. Ick!

No plans today, wife is home, no school.

John, your right Lexi knows what she wants and at 29 months old yet. I am very tempted to jump in on a new Thomas set. Charles Ro has them on sale for the price of just the engine. $119.95. For the whole #30069 set. Only till 2-28 The Thomas I have is very old and has no whistle or moving eyes. Hmm Think I will just do it and figure out how to pay later.

Joe, Great pictures of the bullet train, That reminds me of the one I road in China. WOW those snow sculptures are huge!

Jim, Do what you want but…. I put 4:11s in the GTO and two days later I went to 3:26. All RPM and no go. Just smoked off the tires would not launch. The GTO had plenty of torque so less slip = faster hole shot. Yes

Bob, have fun with all of those astronomers. Whistling

Fife, Yes It IS the "DANICA 500". Mike why did you have to dump her on us?? Tongue Tied I am leaning on a guy with my name in the 29 for the 500.  Wink The kid driving for the Wood brothers is a good pick too. Thumbs Up

Aloha. Happy Lincoln Washington Day. Nobody at work in Chicago. Had a decent weekend, spent a lot of it driving the middle boy from and back to college - he came home to begin looking for a summer job. Not many of them around... Also worked on the layout.

Mike, Kev and Fife,  I'm looking forward to racing again. Maybe Junior can do it this year. I'm OK with the Princess - have to respect her driving.. and try to ignore the other stuff.  Mike, seeing a classic movie on a big screen sounds like a great date.
LV, I feel for your dad, I finished filing 8 different returns using TurboTax on Sat.
Joe and John, I've tried emphasizing the same $ skills for the kids: spend, save, tithe. It seems it depends on my kid's individual personality about what 'sticks'.   Joe, I'd love to ride a bullet train someday.
Rich, how 'bout them Blackhawks. Wonder if the starting win record will fall soon?

Here's what I was working on this weekend. More on the Ivor thread.

Good morning. It's 57° with 86% humidity. There's a fair chance of rain. The high will be 68°.

I'll try again at some layout work today. I'm moving pretty slow after all the activity yesterday and I ache all over. Hopefully today won't be so busy.

Kev -- from my experience with two grand kids, 6 & 3, they absolutely LOVE the Thomas set, 10 times more than grandpas big train set down stairs.  I bought that set when our grand daughter was just over two and she just played with it for hours at a time, she figured out the transformer very quickly and just loved taking the tops off of the passenger cars and giving  the Fisher Price people, from her Dad's childhood a ride around the loop.  When her little brother came upon the scene 3 years ago he wanted part of the action at age 2, I couldn't believe it.  If I don't have Thomas set up when they get here I get scolded from him, seriously, it's that important.  They like the big set downstairs but Thomas trumps everything!!!!

Good Morning, 28, Sunny, windy, going to 39 here at the Jersey Shore.

Most School Districts have school today to make up time from when they were closed because of Sandy. So I will be teaching class tonight at the Vo-Tech. The only time they will be off is during Easter.

Joe, Great shots of the Bullet Train. I really enjoyed the Snow Sculptures. Thanks for sharing.

Fife: Have fun with your "Wife's Dream House". Been there done that. Good luck!

Kev: Go with the Thomas! My motto: "It is better to beg for forgiveness than to plead for permission". Besides you can use the I bought it for Lexi approach.

Kev/Jon: When my son was small he was really into Thomas. Thomas was new and Lionel came out with the "Large Scale" Thomas set. My son played with it for hours. He kept it perfect and got real upset when one of the dogs that we had chewed one of the removalable facial expressions. Now he is a TCA Member and he can not wait for York!

Doug M: Ivor is looking good!

Chuck: No Cheerios for me. Sugar Frosted Flakes! They are GREAT!!! Or so says Tony the Tiger.

Jake: Have fun with the 2020. Try a good clean and lube first. Make sure the track is clean!

Jeffrey: Seriously, if you have to put a cement block for weight on the tongue of a trailer to keep it down you should not be towing with it. After looking at that trailer it is an accident waiting to happen. If the trailer was in decent shape and assuming the correct size, the proper fix would be to move the axel to the rear to move the weight to the tongue. Negative tongue weight causes a very dangerous situation that causes breaking and handling problems as the same goes for too much tongue weight.

Thoughts and prayers for all in need.

Have a Great Day!

John

We're aware of this. The trailer is the one that came original with the boat. The motor is the X factor. It's much heavier than the old 75 hp motor was. We're looking at having the axle moved back about eight inches to better balance the load. Right now getting the boat to and from the lake is a matter of moving it about six hundred yards.

Jeffery or anybody to highlight or select a line you place the cursor at the end of the line and depress which keys on the keyboard? And my tenant who helped me with my computer when Internet Explorer quit  muted sound on my computer, I hate to bother him so how do I get sound back or the mute off?

To highlight a line I place the cursor at the beginning of the line, depress the left mouse key, drag the cursor to the end of the line and release the mouse key. I then press Ctrl-C to copy the line to my clipboard.

To highlight a line for quoting in a post I do the same as above but instead of pressing Ctrl-C I click 'Quote'.

To unmute the sound it depends on how it was muted in the first place. The easiest and most common way is to 'Control Panel', click the 'Sounds' icon and uncheck the 'Mute' box.

Jeffrey, nice looking boat and amazing for it's age.  Does it have a convertable top/sun awning?  Sounds like overkill on that motor though but whatever turns you on.  My brother has always had boats but he lives not far from the Chesapeake Bay.  I like boats too but have no where close by to use one except the ocean for which I'm too old to fool with at this point.  I put all my mad money into trains, my brother into boats and fishing.

Our 90 year old friend from church who had the stroke is awake now but cannot speak except in mumbles and she can move her right arm a little.  They say she can hear people around her and seems to understand.  She is still on a feeding tube, however.  They were talking about moving her but the nursing facility can not supply the feeding tube so the releatives are having a meeting to decide next step.

Rain forcast for middle of the week and colder weather including snow in local mountains.

later,

Ray

Don't let the looks fool you. It's been almost completely rebuilt. As the old 75hp Evinrude was completely locked up we tried finding another one here. All the ones we found needed work and parts that aren't supplied anymore. So we had to go something more modern that would fit the type of mount the boat has without making any big changes. It came down to a 50hp Johnson (and my father doesn't like Johnson motors) which was smaller than what the boat came with originally and the 90hp Evinrude which explains how King Kong's little toe ended up on the back of the boat. That and the price was right. The guy wanted it out of his garage. All it needed was an ignition unit and a carburetor (one of two). The motor was made in 1980 so finding the parts for it wasn't hard.

Jeffery - hope this doesn't get me in trouble, feel free to IM me if needed. A friend of mine's father is looking to unload a bunch of HO guage stuff.

Sending a PM was impossible so I sent you an email.

Thanks Jeffrey - email received and information passed on!
