Congrats Charlie!  Yes

Cloudy and gloom gloom 20 degrees.

Cranked up the shed heat so I can do a brake job on a friends car this morning around 9:00 then plan on the twin 125s this afternoon.

I must of been too early for the Tardis last night. I could not find the beacon.

All the talk is about snow but only 3" to 7" for us,,, more to the south. The tractor is ready. I took off the grader and installed the 750# counterweight yesterday. Let her rip.

Morning.  Off to Winston-Salem NC for a load of stock for Hunters' Haven.  Was cool but warming fast.  Chilly rain tonight.  Might have a little mix by morning but more up north.

Aloha. Grey and colder here - I think we're supposed to miss most of the slop - maybe 3-5 inches. Jon and Brutus are supposed to get far more. Great TARDIS ride last night, sorry to have missed Kev. SJ gave me a sneak peek at the new catalog and there's some nice Thomas stuff in it. Maybe birthday gifts to myself

The youngest woke up sick so that impacts my plans for the day. My bride wants to go to NYC and points north for the youngest's spring break. I'd like to go to someplace warmer. Actually, I'd like to stay right here and not pay $5 a gal. for gas. Smile

Charlie, congratulations! Glad it sold so swiftly. I hope the new one can be constructed soon so you don't have to move twice...
Kev, how do you like your burro crane? I've always been interested in them and have kept an eye out for one. Sorry for your mail experience. I work fairly frequently with the USPS and have been very impressed  with both our local and the city set-ups.
Fife, the countdown continues!

Good morning. It's 51° with 91% humidity. The high will be 72°.

Wet seems to be the best word to use to describe what it's like here this morning. I have no particular plans for today so I guess I can clean up the layout some more. That usually seems to attract calls concerning work outdoors or calls from my father wanting something done, but who knows, maybe no calls will come and I can actually get something done. I'm also expecting a small package or two in the mail today. One is a small camera and the other is an Atlas FP7 that I bought for parts. I think it's someones detailing project that was never finished as all the molded on grabs, etc have been sanded off. The detail kit with the grabs and all is supposedly included with it. Who knows? If it's not botched I may install them myself just to have something to do. I bought this unit on the supposition that it has the 70's era Roco/Atlas drive that I can put under the 70's era FP7 UP shell I have or use pieces from the drive to fix the drive that came with the UP unit. It just needs the front truck replaced. If this new one turns out to have the 80's era drive and it runs good I'll just put the whole drive under the UP shell and be done with it. That would give me two FP7's with the 80's era drive. I have two others, one with the 70's era drive and the other is a 70's era unit that's been repowered with an Athearn motor and shafts. I know there's a lot of people thinking that can't be done as an Athearn motor is too big. It's kind of like pushing a grapefruit into a six ounce can but it can be done. You just need a big shoehorn and be willing to chop up the frame a bit. Well, enough about that.

Still a gloomy and cold 22. Not much snow this winter,YET, but no breaks from the cold. A nice chat with some of the guys last night and granny is watching two of the grandsons so here I am trying to get car/house insurance quotes. Some don't seem to care about new accounts. Well that's fine I will go with someone who does..Happy birthday Buckeye or did he already have one this week...S.J.

"The sky is falling, the sky is falling" [correction] the snow is falling.  And there is also thunder every once in a while. The original forecast may have to be revised upward.  There is half a foot on the ground already and prediction is for double that ( or a little more).

Had a good time yesterday at the mall.  We have a new contributor to the layout, who knows what he is doing and knows more than me. This has allowed us to make a rapid progress on this postwar Lionel layout, and more and more loops are becoming fully functional, and the switches operate flawlessly.  Someday, this spring, I'll shoot some video of the layout and put it up on YouTube or Filckr or something.

At home I'm involved in rebuilding standard Lionel trucks from a box containing about 100 wheels and a few dozen frames.  So far two complete coil trucks and two standard staple ends, and some fast angle trucks as well.  We'll use them as spares and as needed.

My other project is an M&St.L 229 that was missing the front apron.  I cut a closed apron off of a really badly damaged ALCO UP that had a damaged paint stripped shell.  The apron was fine. So, I am creating a closed nose 229 which is different from the original of course.  I've figured out how to mix Testors red with a few drops of orange for a perfect paint match and look forward to this future runner.  The motor and chassis are also rebuilds, and I think I'll install a three position reverse unit instead of the two position unit that doesn't work; it's wired correctly but doesn't cycle. I rebuilt another motor which is single axle magnetraction and plan to put traction tires on it.  I have the big round weight from the junk shell that can be installed.  This unit will be a 1055 Texas Special, andother runner with a three position added.

Now I must go out and plow the driveway.

Good morning all,

It is cloudy, but all sorts of commotion will hit the fan this evening and tomorrow morning.  Fortunately I was able to close the month out  early today and so if I have to take a personal day tomorrow, I can without much concern as to leaving others in the lurch.  Played soccer last night.  Played very well for me.  Felt good when I came home.   It was fun.  I think I could play soccer every day(except the day of the Indy 500, I DO have priorities).   Daughter is back to work for half days, but she is not hitting it too hard.  It will be a long, hard slog here on out.  AJ's team set fast time in first open IndyCar practice, which is a good sign for the real racing season.  Would be nice to see number 14 up front again on a regular basis.

Saw some pics from the new Lionel RTR catalong.  I think my wallet will be taking a few hits, and hopefully I can find some sets for the grandkids.  That new BNSF double stack set looks really sharp and I see they have a new Scout set.  Pretty cool.

TBIL and I can drive until we hit freezing rain and then I land.  I hope everyone has a good day.

Keep on training,

Mike C. from Indiana

Good Mornin' Y'all From Crystal Clear And Seasonal 20s Taxachusetts,

Snow from points West should arrive Saturday afternoon with me sitting on the 8" to 12" line, depending on whose forecast you believe.  Over 12' forecast just 15 miles West of me.  We have functions scheduled both Saturday and Sunday up in NH and Maine, respectively.....hope they get cancelled.  Driving in the snow is no big deal.  You just settle in, schedule extra time, take it slower and easy, and you get to where you need to go unscathed.  The problem is with the things you don't control......the other drivers who drive like it is a clear sunny day (and drive distracted).

Yesterday was my wife's 29th birthday (again).  I would tell her about Buckeye's birthday strategy but I am afraid we would run out of $$$ quickly buying her presents.

Unlike the usual last minute panic shopping, I actually had gone out searching for her present last week and also this past Monday, had a (jewelry, what else?) gift picked out, was going to pick it up Tuesday but got called into service to watch the grandchildren all day.  Then the wifey and I took the grandchildren all day yesterday.

So we took the little ones out to breakfast and then (the surprise) to the jewelry store.  Pam had her suspicions, thought I was up to no good as she did not know where I was taking her.  She only knew it was to pick up her birthday present.  After a couple of turns she realized we were not headed toward the mall.  "You aren't taking me to the TRAIN store for my present, are you?"  I kept my mouth zipped.

She was pleasantly stunned when I walked her into the local jewelry store.  I don't know if it was because she immediately fell in love with what I had selected (I know what she likes) or because she was shocked at the romantic thought.......doesn't matter.  I am a hero and have a get-out-of-jail-free card for at least the next 720 minutes.

Now for the bad news that prompted all of the unscheduled grandchildren duty this week.  Over a year in the making.

The short of it is, we have a terminally ill elderly family member (SIL's Aunt).  End game decisions are at the forefront as there is nothing further that can be done medically.  We have been filling in this week as needed, helping to cover all of the bases and provide whatever support and counsel we can.  And one must be very sensistive to, and patient with, the needs and the understanding level of the little minds, especially for the nine year old granddaughter who has never lost a very close family member.  She is very close to her Great Aunt.  Pam and I maintained a sense of normalcy all day yesterday, answered the inevitable questions, and tried as best we could to quell any fears and answer any questions.......no matter how many times they came up.  Last night we capped off the day with the little ones with dinner at our home followed by a trip with the grandchildren to Dairy Queen before we took them home.

Please say a prayer for my son-in-law's Aunt.  Hold your family members close today.  Tomorrow may never come..

Jack

So now we know how the NASCAR Queen can drive from 1st to 18th in 60 laps. LaughLaugh  LaughLaugh                     #29 Yes

Well the, "hey can you put break pads on my car"  was more than it was played up to be. Fronts went smooth as silk and then " can you rotate the tires and look at the rear brakes?" Sure.  Bang Head

Right rear had a bad wheel cylinder and then the brake line broke and we had no parts.   Bang Head   Bang Head   Bang Head  Off to Ottawa for parts and another 2.5 hours and it is done. Dots - Sign At least I have $135.00 in my wallet I did not have when I got up this morning. Smile

Went out to feed the birds and there is oil on the floor in the garage where Sandra parks her car and it is more that a drop or two?  Bang Head   Bang Head  Dealer said to bring it in and they will give me a loaner. I sent the wife an e-mail to check the oil but go figure today she does not read her e-mail.  Super Angry Jack put a curse on me I think. Tongue Tied

Doug I like the Burro crane and run it more than the Gang car on the MOW track. I will do a video for you later today. I got mine for $49.99 including the shipping off the Bay.

Jack, Prayers sent. Angel It is better for the young to learn early the pain of a death than to have them not know it till they are adults. JMHO

John,

I'll probably just swap the gears.  The complete axle is $1,425 Indifferent, plus my time to install.  Found a speed shop in Carnegie, PA that can do the swap for around $600, and a friend highly recommends them.

so the fam and I go to dinner, and I am consulting with my BIL, who is an avid hunter / trapper over the pics.  all while trying to be discrete  as this type of stuff freaks the wife out., well he thought it was a small black bear, which we do have around here.

sooner or later the wife gets wind of the conversation, and says, "I saw a HUGE cat out the window the other day, almost as big as a dog!" Bang Head

which, by the way I would much rather have around than a coyote . , although preferably, neither. And Bob Cats are a protected species in PA and VERY few permits to kill them are issued. The BIL is bringing his trail camera up this weekend and we'll try to get some pics of this creature.

I've come to a decision about the Atlas FP7 with the broken truck. I want it running tonight. I have an Atlas GP40 that has a flaky motor. I've looked at the trucks. They're the same as what's in the FP7. So I'll take the front truck from the GP40 and put it into the FP7. When the other FP7 comes in, probably next week from the looks of it, I'll check it out really good. If it runs well I'll keep it together and get parts for the GP40 some time time in the future. I'm not eager to get it running anytime soon. But I want this UP FP7 running tonight!

Well the FP7 is fixed. I test ran it first on DC to see if all was well. Naturally it wasn't. The front wheelset of the front truck kept derailing on the curves no matter if they were left or right. I checked the gauge of the wheels. It was fine. So then I put my glasses on and gave it a real close look. I could barely see it. The pickup shoe of the right front wheel was riding on top of the wheel. Using a flat tip screwdriver with a 1mm wide tip I pushed the pickup shoe up, back and down behind the wheel where it belonged. I repeated the test run and this time it was perfect. So then I hard wired in a Digitrax DH123 decoder then programmed it on the program track. A test run on DCC went off perfect. I installed a pair of Kadee #148 Whisker couplers and called the project done for now. It needs a few little parts but they're purely cosmetic.

Time to call it a night. See y'all tomorrow.

Sleet and ice storm here today - I took off and they closed roads and companies all over the place.  Of course, the kids had no school and they are already excused for tomorrow as well.  I'll check the traffic and my street in the morning, but right now I don't think I could get out of my neighborhood.  4 day weekend!  TARDIS is ready guys and we have extra rootbeer and bannilla to drop off for those who are stranded at home, so let's fly!

Nice shot with the snow cannon!  Yesterday's forcast called for 4 to 6 inches.  We ended up with 8 to 12".  Not much ice,  though.  I'd rather deal with the extra snow, than to deal with ice.

I just wish you guys would of taken the shot about 4 hours earlier.  That way, my Cobalt would be stuck in my driveway instead of the parking lot at work.  It was just a dusting when I left for work about 7 and there was 6 or 7 inches when I tried to go out for lunch.  I could not get it through the drift that had formed around it.  Didn't help that the lot was not plowed yet either.  I caught a ride home with a co-worker.  I'll worry about getting ithe car loose tomorrow.

Got plenty of exercise shoveling out the driveway and walk.  Now, if the city would only get a plow down our street.

Finally got the USPS settlement for the MKT GP-7 that got delivered with broken couplers.

All for now.

Konbanwa,

It was an unseasonably warm day today.  I even had my sunroof open this afternoon.  I went to work late this morning as I was up late last night finishing my final exam.  I have a paper to finish tonight and then this class if finished – only one more to go.  I plan to relax at home tonight; the Princess is making dinner.

Jack – I hope your wife had a great birthday.  I’ll pray for your family.

 Nice video Kev.

Sayonara,

Joe

Chuck doesn't have school today.  I wonder what he will do on his day off.  CoolDrinksParadiseTravelCoffeeMusic
