Hot again in SE Indiana. Jim, sorry to hear about the 91 Probe. Felt the same way about a 73 Opel Manta. Best car I ever had. Another example of GM not knowing what to do with good vehicles. Sold by Buick dealers who had no clue how good it was. Bought it used with over 140 K on it. Drove it 2 years. One day was rotating tires. Noticed jack was going up and the body was not. Traded it in on an 83 Dodge Colt. Ran it til the frame cracked. Work was good today. Minivan that we had module "reflashed" over 4th of July is acting up again. Will take it to our mechanic this time. Bet we have to have new module. Hmmm.... I hope everyone has a good day.

It's time for me to call it a night. Worked on a couple of freight cars today. I'm in the process of setting up a load for a depressed center flat, an excavator and a couple of dozers. Watched a couple of Errol Flynn movies today. 'The Sea Hawk' and the first movie he starred in 'Captain Blood'. See y'all tomorrow.

We got a real good rain today. The tree like yours look more like late august or september than July.
Took my bride to Cincinnati to get her stitches out and a new cast. Doctor is pleased with progress. $ more weeks in this cast.
Football practice started tonight. Lot of the boys from last year and a few new ones. Looking forward to another season.

I've still got the 97 Probe GT, so I don't feel so bad. It has 196K on it, but it is rock solid. The 91 was really starting to wear on me, and I am somewhat relieved to see it gone. Felt good tearing it apart waiting for the truck.

Tough day for me today. Planned to replace the rear brakes on the 91 Probe GL today, but it is resting in a nearby salvage yard now.
Here is what was inside the right rear drum.
Notice the rusted line and suspension. Also smelled gas.
Bottom of rear quarter.
Called the local yard around 3PM, and they'd be there around 7PM.

Pulled some interior bits as well. Got $150 for her, but I didn't want to be crippled or dead because of her. Had over $3K in it.

I’ve been at work a few hours now and need a brief break. It is very sunny, hot, and humid today. I ran three miles this morning and it went pretty well. I also hit the gym for a weight training session for my legs. I have a decent amount of paperwork to complete today, but I’m hoping the Yankees game will be televised here so I can watch it while I finish my work.
Laz – My initial pace was a tad bit faster than normal, but I felt good and was not straining. I started to feel it after the 5-mile mark and then when I hit the 7-mile mark I knew I was not going 10 miles. I also should have started drinking the water from my hydration belt sooner. Usually I can wait until the 5-mile mark before I have to start drinking from it, but with this heat and humidity I now know I cannot wait that long. I need that running fix as well. I did not run last week due to our Disney trip and it was killing me. My wife cannot understand why I enjoy running so much, but usually I find it very relaxing and it gives me plenty of time to pray, daydream, and think.
RT – I hope your wife’s knee is feeling better.

Well today I brought out a well car I weathered some time back. It's the first time it's been on the layout for more than a test. Originally it was quite allergic to 18" radius curves and #4 turnouts but with a little filing on the coupler pockets and removing a couple of small pieces from the frame it now tracks very well. At about eighty scale feet coupler face to coupler face it's the longest freight car I have.
Been busy busy day. Went and signed the paperwork for the refinance , from there went and picked up the new flooring for the den, Then went to harbor freight ( have to have the correct saw to cut the pieces you know ) so picked up a 10" sliding compound miter saw. Went and dropped off my package I had to ship at FedEx and then took wife to Golden Corral for a late lunch ( about 1:30)
Was going to go to auction tonight but shes kinda tuckered out lol. ( she fell and hurt her left knee this am but she okay just a little sore so now she wants to relax I don't blame her)
The flooring is going to look great. I need to look into what I'm going to do as my original plan was to get everything out of the den but not sure thats going to happen. I may have to put all on one side do about 1/2 the den then move everything to the side done and finish the other side. Still need to get a few strips of 1" x 1/4" x 8' to put against the wall to give me my spacing to give room for the flooring to expand and contract.
Not much else going on today guess need to get down into the den and figure out what is going where. Talk to you all later.

Aloha. We got a little rain last night but not nearly enough as we need. I haven't cut the lawn all summer! We don't have any skeeters either. I just saw a piece about the Santa Fe sign being taken off the Railway Exchange building on Michigan Ave in Chicago. It's being replaced by one for Motorola. At least the sign was saved for the Illinois Railway Museum. Here's Cedar Point's loco coming into the station..

Went for walk this morning before sun was up to high. Little cooler today.
Fence people are working out back today preping the trench for ready mix cement footing to be poured on Thursday.
My friend Ed was a member of the Wallenda High Wire Troupe in 1957,58,59. He was part of the famous 7 man pyramid. I sent a notice of his passing to the Wallenda family today. The present day Wallenda family that are still performing are the grandchildren mainly. One of their relatives was that guy that just walked over Niagra Falls recently.
My son just went off to take pictures of the former Santa Fe Railroad 2nd district (Pasadena Sub) which is being dismantled to make way for the new light rail Gold Line. My son has taken it upon himself to document all he can about the line before it is gone. It used to be the passenger line between Los Angeles and San Bernardino over which trains like the Super Chief traveled. The freight trains went over a different route through Fullerton, Calif. He invited me to go but my heart is not in it today. Besides, I'm keeping an eye on the work in the back yard so they don't blow up something.

Peru is about 22 miles west of us on I80. Very dry there too.
Peru has the closest shopping mall to us. It is kind of depressed and many of the stores have closed. There are still many other good stores and places there that are not in the mall that we go to.

Got up at the crack of dawn to take care of the dog and then head out to drop off the car again at the dealership. Two things they fixed under warranty did not stay fixed. A bring back.
Why do I go to a dealership further from my home for service? I could take the car to another just 12 miles away with a traffic-less to and fro. But mine has the best reputation for their service within a 75 mile radius of my home. I figure the hassle is worth it.
The fact of the matter may just be that we have demanded more from vehicles and have gotten it. But with it comes a level of complexity that is difficult for even the most experienced of mechanics to deal with.
The mechanics did not design or engineer these vehicles but are saddled with the downstream, including the customer satisfaction and the reputation of the brand. Maybe the OEMs should initiate a program where the design and engineering teams have to spend a week or two each year in a dealership service department seeing what they have wrought.
On my vehicle, for example, changing a burned out front light bulb, any of them, cannot be accomplished without either (A) removing the entire front fascia (bumper) or by (B) jacking the car up, removing the wheel, and then removing the inner fender well lining. The result? 1-1.5 hours of labor @ $120 per hour to replace a stupid bulb that can cost only a buck or two.
Brutus........[angel] continue for your Mom's full recovery. The news of the successful procedure was welcome. Your dad must be worried too. Stay strong, there is a lot on your plate.

Rich........I'd be concerned too that the Princess has decided to remain down in FLA for the time being. I hope you can stay in close enough contact to continue your positive influence on her education as you have been doing, sometimes without full "concurrence" of your daughter. Face to face is a whole lot easier, but things are what they are. The bond, trust, and respect you have created with her will win out over the long haul. Stay strong.

Chief, I really do not know what those things are?? When I got my last Dash 8 40-C from flea-bay that is what it was wrapped up in. But I figured you could use them as Depends. DougDG, You need to post some pictures of the circus wagon project. Sounds interesting.

76 at 0500 this morning. I ran a nice sloooow 2 miles felt a little tight but took my time and did it. I really was looking forward to it for I ran about 50+ days straight and took off the last 3 days. My oh my I needed that running fix. Watered the plants and yarden and then purged the filters to the ponds. Maybe do a little work on the layout this afternoon? I need a train fix too.
JOED, sounds like South Central Pa. with your weather. Remember its all in the pace.

Big storms moved through. Now down east. Can still see the flashes of lightning in the eastern sky when I took Finn out for his last "trip".
No Box work. Helped the Hunters Haven do a wall and sanded the big checkout counter [which is now stained]. Mowed grass earlier [here and for the widow neighbor].

Thanks for the prayers guys - she did fine and should be released tomorrow morning about 9 or 10 AM. I'll stop and see her after work tomorrow. She was very lucky they caught this and it was apparently a slow one, so probably has been growing for years.

Jack - we have a walk-out basement and so the plumbing is all downhill from my house. We paid for the plumbing to be roughed in for a 3/4ths bath - shower/toilet/sink - when the house was built. They actually plumbed drains for a tub and toilet etc. Therefore, the drains were too close and we had to move them - what an expensive "freebie" from the builder - Grrrrr. Moving the toilet over cost me money as I hired that done. I chopped through the floor to move the drain for the shower. If I have to do that again, ever, I will pay for it or rent a demo hammer. I'm just going to leave the P-trap where they put it as I only added about 20 inches run to the drain.
I'm supposed to be on a diet, but I have been bad for the past couple months again - need to get back on it.

Started casting some of the trim pieces today I'll need for the Circus Wagons. They turned out pretty good for my first attempt, but the wheels I need are a different story. I'll have to go with making the molds out of silicone rubber instead of the putty mold. The putty doesn't give the detail that is needed for the spokes and hub, oh well "stuff happens".
Thursday will be a late nite at the museum, a large convention that is coming to town has rented a number of the museum buildings for their family entertainment during the convention. Will be running trains from 5PM to 10PM. The convention has about 8k attendees so we may see a rather sizeable crowd.

Fife, A long time friend of ours has a son making a career of the Coast Gaurd. He and his family have had some outstanding duty stations, Honolulu/Charleston/Honolulu again, now I think they are in Alaska. He and his family love it. Having spent my time in the Air Force I kinda give them a preference.
