Mornin'/Afternoon All.

...........Jack, I had more fun with my GTO when the exhaust was nice and quiet and some yahoo with his loud machine next to ya at the light just lightly goosing his throttle. When the light changed I smoked'em, 389cu"  bored & stroked to 420 if I remember right and a single Carter 4barrel that looked about the size of a 5gal garbage can. Of course that also meant it never passed a gas station it didn't like.

Later All !

Doug.....you've got that right.  The side exhausts were fun for a short period of time.  By the time I was 26 and I had the car 4 years, the thrill was gone.  Heat pouring up the side of the car along with the exhaust, and the noise got old because the exhaust tips were not 3 feet from your ear.  I kept the Hooker headers but had the exhaust routed normally out the rear with stock mufflers.

No street racing for me either because back then the small block 350ci Chevy engine was..........small. Laugh  With a 780cfm Holley 4 barrel.  The old saying was "There is no substitution for cubic inches."  It was mostly true.

That conservative driving habit had me smiling when all of my buddies with hot cars with larger displacement were getting slammed with insurance premiums twice what mine were.  I had no tickets, accidents, or claims in the six years before I bought the car and kept it that way.  If I was going to get pulled over, it was for the exuberance I displayed getting up to the speed limit or taking an exit ramp a bit too quickly. Wink

My Dad and I went out shopping for his next new car in the Fall of 1966 when the 67s were out.  $3,400 could put you in a brandy new 67 GTO with the 389 and the 335hp and A/C!!!  At the last minute he got cold feet and got relatively boring on me, buying intead a 1967 Plymouth Sport Fury 2-door with the 383ci engine (2 barrel) and buckets.  At least he listened to me about the motor displacement.  Sadly, it was no Goat in more ways than one but was pretty quick for what is was.

Re the putrid fuel mileage you were talking about with these thirsty cars back in the day, my lowest mpg ever was about 4mpg which ironically (and immediately) followed the best highway mileage ever of 19+ on a very conservative, all highway drive from Chicago to Detroit for a wedding.  When I got to Detroit, my buddies wanted me to take each of them out for a spin so that they could see what the car would do. Laugh  We filled up and one by one I took them for a ride.  While they were impressed with how quick the car was, they could not believe 4mpg was possible when we pulled back into the same gas station and refueled again.  Yup, thirsty as you said!!!! Whistling

CHIEF - Congratulations on losing the weight on a LOW CARB diet! Only carbs you have are the popcorn and the bread for the BLT. Works for me. I lost 27# over a six month period. That was 7 mo ago and I haven't regained it. We use "Arnold's healthful nutty grain" as our bread for BLT. Somehow it binds up the carbs with Inulin Fiber giving you less carbs that stay in the system.

You mentioned you "starved" your self. No starving here. We have receipts for colflower use in potato less potato salad, noodle less lasagna etc. I defy you to tell the difference. If you want them, send me a PM.

I received my copy of " Heritage Power" mag in the mail today. This is truly a collector's item. It is an outstanding job of  photography.

I hope one of the model train companies make them in "O" gauge.

The Lionel and Williams model of the Jersey Central Trainmaster in tangerine and blue was actually used in 1946 by JC on their F-3s.

Mornin'/Afternoon All.

Toys all packed and ready to go to the museum for tonight's run, was advised by the museum secretary/special events lady that the crowd might be comparable to our Christmas on the Prado(wall to wall people).

Tried a different method of casting wagon wheels for the Circus Wagons, made the molds with silicon rubber and all the details came out great. But painting them to match the existing wheels is going to be a real pain, may take a few short cuts even though they won't be identical.

Chief, Good news on the lab results. Thumbs Up

SJ, Best watch out for those cute nurses, they can really mess with the ticker.

Kev, I don't know which would be worse, the lack of a carry permit or the absolute insane spending like they are doing here. Grumpy

Kev, be careful when you climb back up to change out the sensor as it will probably not be compatable [my luck].

Thanks Chief, It was the same sensor and seems to be working fine.

Good attitude, SJ!!!!!!!!  The lawn mowing along with the monitor will give the Docs some idea of whats going on (and when) during your normal routine.  Hopefully they will prescribe more train running and banilla.

Afternoon all.  Extra hot and humid.  Got a STUPID ribbon cutting at an outdoor vinue in the next county.  Its at 5:30 which will be the hottest.  Expected about 104.

Been in a meeting all morning.  Breakfast there.  I had yogart and cantalope.  Everyone had eggs and sausage. Bang Head

Blown, having the same sign in problems too.  This is not the best software but it is free so I am thankful.

Kev, be careful when you climb back up to change out the sensor as it will probably not be compatable [my luck].

Have a good one.

green97probe

Jack......... I've never been one to mess with car audio equipment.  Both the 97 and 91 Probes have/had their original am/fm cassette decks.  Can't stand the punks in the rotted out cars with stereos that annoy from a mile away.

JimmyT.......downshift one gear with the Mustang and you won't be able to hear their racket.  Downshift two gears and they won't be able to hear their own racket. Thumbs UpSmile, Wink & Grin

My Corvette came with the factory side exhausts which I later replaced with the Hooker full race side exhausts.  If someone pulled up next to me at a light with their windows down and their obnoxious music thumping and blaring, I would counter with blips of the throttle and then 3,000 rpm pulling away from the light.  And if I was in a particularly obnoxious mood, I would drive right along next to them @ 4,000 rpm.  That exhaust system could wake the dead. Surprise

Then I got older/wiser and went with stock rear exit exhaust so I could listen to the radio and not constantly smell like automobile exhaust fumes. Laugh

By the way........read Rich's last post.  He has a Hurst Super Shifter linkage.  I have one in my Corvette.  The shifts are so short and so exact......you can't miss a shift.  They are spring loaded to the right, so the second to third gear shifts (on an H pattern 4-speed) come off fast as you can blink every time.

Good morning all,

Got a call from my credit card company yesterday.  Had to cancell my account because some son of a %3#*&@! stole my number.  They bought a bunch of stuff from Wal Mart on line.  Nice to see that they go for quaility.  Wal Mart card security sucks!

Fence people at it again this morning.  Still making progress.

Lunchtime:

Cloudy day here with sporadic showers. Temps in the 80's.

Today is my Friday. Tonight it is off to Lancaster County, Pa. As my wife goes to  scrapbook show in Lancaster, my son and I head to the Rough and Tumble Museum in Kinzers for the John Deere meet. hopefully they will have the Shay running. Of course a trip to the Toy Train Museum and the Penn. Railroad Museum are in order. We will be heading home Sunday morning with maybe a stop at Englishtown for the Funny Car Reunion. A good friend of mine and co-worker will be running his Nostalgic 68 Nova Funny Car, No Money, No Funny. Then I have a nice week off.

Laz, 127 to go.

SJ, Thoughts and Prayers.

Brutus, Good Luck with the BoA and Praters for your Mom.

Rich, Have fun with the Road Runner. A long time coming.

Anybody hear from Traindood?

AF53, I have to do that inventory when someone is not around. I will let you know and we will have a few cold ones when we do it.

Thoughts and Prayers for all in need!

Enjoy the day!

Brutus

Call this morning from the bank and said close on 8/1 at 2PM.  Then an email this afternoon - need to verify my wife's employment.  This will be the FOURTH time in 3 months they have done so.  Char gave her the code to do it and said WE WILL SEE YOU ON 8/1 at 2PM to CLOSE.  PERIOD.  Computer at BoA still says 7/31 and indicates that they have received EVERYTHING and the loan is finalized at their end.  I think this young woman is not very good at her job at the very least, or is on a power kick.  Well, we will kick them to the curb and kick the dust off our sandals if they don't come through on 8/1 at 2PM.

Brutus......Make this happen!!!!  Just keep hitting the ball right back over the net no matter what it takes and, in the words of Larry the Cable Guy, "Git 'er done."

Unlike years/decades gone by, employment is here today and gone tomorrow.  So I am not surprised the bank is doing some last minute, "by the book",  due diligence on the wife's employment status.  BofA, like many of the larger banks, wasn't bypassed by the mortgage debacle because of their own stupid (greedy) underwriting decisions.  Now it is cautious overkill in the opposite direction as the BofA continues to experience a continuing stream of foreclosures and distressed properties.

At today's interest rates, ones we have not seen since the 1950s, this is like free money for you.  Back in 1988 my mortgage interest rate was 13.5%.Bang Head  What are you getting?  Under 4%? Bow

Take it and run!!!! Thumbs Up

Jack.

There was a bit of a derailment in Knutsville this morning. A gon picked a turnout and triggered a stringline derailment. On the bright side the shelf couplers didn't come uncoupled.

Good morning,

WOW we had a whopping 9/100" of rain last night. Doubt it will do much good but I will take it. Storm

Got up early and got up on the 20’ ladder and changed the light sensor in the NEW shed light. Darn thing would stay on till 9:00am and come on at 7:00pm.

I just put the one in it that was in the old light that had the ballast go bad. Must be working it is cloudy and it is off. Just came back from getting gas with the Kroger 10 cents off for $3.30.9

Not much planned for today.

You guys have a good one,

Prayers for all in need,  Angel

Good morning all,

Ditto on the weather in SE Indiana.  Good day at work yesterday.  I played well for me last night, but we had a bad stretch of about 5-6 minutes and we lost 3-1.  It was hot out there.  I would sub out and almost immediately someone else would want me to come back in.  I got a lot of playing time, perhaps too much.  Came home, had dessert, did the Sudoku, sat in the chair, and went to sleep.  I was tired.  SJ, take care of yourself and your ticker.  SP Ray, good to hear the fence will be at least semi-sastifactory.  TBIL but no driving tonight.  I hope everyone has a good day.

Keep on training,

Mike C. from Indiana

Good morning. It's 78° with 93% humidity. The high will 92° but will feel like 103°. There's a small chance of rain.

I discovered yesterday that my double stack car doesn't like the elevated curves. As long as the train is moving it's OK but if it stops with that car on a super-elevated curve over it goes. I'll cut it down to a single row of containers and see what it does. Other than that there's nothing planned for today.

Konnichiwa,

I have a brief moment for a quick afternoon post.  Last night’s BJJ class was fun; I only sparred one round in order to not punish my body too much.  The weather is back to being awfully hot and humid today.  It is very uncomfortable to be outside for more than five minutes.  Our office’s air conditioning is not the coolest either so being inside is not a whole lot better.  I need to finish some tasks then I can head home for the day.

Laz – There is a jogging/walking/biking path near the Tama River off base.  However, it’s about a 10-minute drive to get to it.  It’s only two miles away but the amount of intersections I’d have to cross could result in me having to stop every 50 yards or so – that would kill me before I even got to the path.  The base’s path is nice; I just need to wake up earlier.

Kev – Nice photos of the locomotives.

SJ – I hope you have good results this morning.

Sayonara,

Joe

Probe, glad you didn't get killed in that car.

BoC continued prayers.

SJ - prayers and hope the numbers come in good.

Rich - hope things continue to go in the right direction for you and yours.

Good work, Chief!

Okay, now I lost track, but prayers for us all and for our intentions.

Took the test - 48 test questions in 2 hours for the 2nd part.  The computer would not work right - apparently having like 1000 people all try to "read" the manual at the same time across the country was too much.  I think i did okay, but we shall see - that's not much time to figure out a complicated problem without access to a lot of information.  A lot of my job is just knowing where to get the correct answer, because often the answers change as laws change and court cases are passed.  Oh well, if I have to take it over I don't care.  Nothing will happen to me if I don't pass it, but I will have to take it again until I do.

I took off from work early and went to visit Mom and Dad.  She is doing really well, but still having some problems getting good sleep - that's when she is uncomfy.

TARDIS is ready, but I can't drive - too tired.  Let's go!

RIP Chewy - best dog I ever had.

Off to bed.  Early morning meeting in Raleigh.  Then afternoon meeting followed by evening ribbon cutting.  May hit the road to the lake house after that.  GRASS to cut as been raining up there too.

Kev, tested the switching yard tracks with the NS switcher.  Those engines with can motors in the trucks are easy to convert to TMCC.  Add some weight and they pull good.

BTW: nurse called.  All my blood levels are "right on" now.

Sleep tight.

Time for me to call it a night. Thunderstorm earlier amounted to just a bunch if noise. My parents and I went to a Mexican place in town tonight for dinner. Great meal. Got home just in time to do my sign-off post. Not much else happened today. See y'all tomorrow.

Jack, will get back most of my privacy for swimming but won;t have any pretty trees to look at in my yard.  However neighbor has some citrus trees on the other side of the fence.  Better than nothing.  I plan to plant some new stuff as soon as possible.  I ought to plant a row of tall Italian Cypress trees just for spite but they would be too much trouble down the road.  Say what?  Heck I'm already down the road.  How many more years can you guarantee after 75.  When all is said and done, the new wall will be very nice and will be better security if not privacy from two story house next door in the rear.  Did I need it?  Absolutely not.  Would I have been happy with it the way it was?  Definitely!

Went to visit a local small railroad Museum near me today.  The Pacific Railroad Society has a small museum inside the old train depot in San Dimas on the former Santa Fe track.  Was looking for some video tapes they were selling but I got there too late.  It was all picked over.  Also stopped at the Train Stop hobby shop across the street.  First time I have been in the place since the owner died a few months ago.  The widow is trying to sell out inventory before she does anything with the property.  Not having much luck though with just a 20% discount after you have to add back nearly 10% sales tax.  I will go back when they get serious about liquidating.  I might buy things if I were just starting out but I should be selling trains now, not buying.

Stress test did not go so well. Heart pumped normal till it was stressed then started skipping lots of beats. I did not feel them. So I got some echos and am wearing a monitor till morning.

Look what happens when they bring those pretty nurses in for SJ.

KEV........Just think how cost effective that would have been, could have saved lives in the process.  This thing is sickening, hundreds directly affected.  Criminals don't care about the law, why they are called criminals.  And the innocent get slaughtered.  Who speaks for us? Super Angry

I've got to look up which States have conceal/carry permits.  I know law enforcement might not be comfortable with my feelings on this matter.

Jack this donkey’s rear state, driven off of the vermin known as Chicago is the last state NOT to have some sort of concealed carry,
