Angel - SJ, hopefully its nuttin'.  Blownout - Angel for you too, hope those treatments end soon.

Jack - Yes - AUGUST!!!  Spent all day on my back, as the  trans is hooked up, shifter installed and adjusted, new wheel cylinders, brake lines (need to bleed them) and Energy Suspension sway bar bushings.  Preliminary wiring completed, need to finish fuel system and hook up exhaust.  Probably another 2 or 3 full days to finish.  The Pistol Grip Shifter, more than likely non PC nowadays, shoots down the competition.  It's really a Hurst Super Shifter in disguise.  I replaced all the cotter pins with "hair pins" for a cleaner and easier install.  Goal is to serve the wife with divorce papers, register the roadrunner and burn rubber to the court.

Roadrunner needs to be completed before my car club meet Labor Day weekend.  Bug Free....we shall see.

Yes there are many cars I threw BIG $$$ at and were still horrible.  Sans my '70 roadrunner hard top with 440 4bbl, ran high 12's as the quarter panels waved at you as it passed.  Ugly but fast car.  Opels?  Seen them all at the racetrack many time.  Small block Chevy equipped, they were tough to beat.

Be back later!

I am the monster in your head...And I thought you'd learn by now, It seems you haven't yet.

SJ,

Angel  Didn't mean to miss that before.

Laz,

There wasn't much for filler to stick onto.Laugh

Jack,

I've never been one to mess with car audio equipment.  Both the 97 and 91 Probes have/had their original am/fm cassette decks.  Can't stand the punks in the rotted out cars with stereos that annoy from a mile away.

Found a local guy on Craig's List that is looking for parts for an 89 Probe GL.Thumbs Up  Sold him the set of tail lights and kicked in some odds and ends that are worthless to me now.  He couldn't believe the amount that I have, and said he'd be back.  Seems like a nice guy, and I am glad I can get this stuff to someone that can use it.

I've got to look up which States have conceal/carry permits.  I know law enforcement might not be comfortable with my feelings on this matter.

Louisiana is one.

Yeah Dennis and that will have absolutely no effect on the

Too bad someone with a concealed carry permit was not in a position to take that Nut Case out in the theater.   Super Angry

KEV........Just think how cost effective that would have been, could have saved lives in the process.  This thing is sickening, hundreds directly affected.  Criminals don't care about the law, why they are called criminals.  And the innocent get slaughtered.  Who speaks for us? Super Angry

........ The Sony radio in my 89 Cavalier Z-24 quit, the first thing a kid do's when he buys a car is put in a aftermarket radio and hack the factory wiring all up in the process and in my case the mounting too. I listen to right wing talk radio constantly and I think factory radios work better for AM and I got one from a 93 Calivar. Hope it works and I am able to splice the wiring back together correctly.

That is EXACTLY what my son has done with 3 0f the 4 cars he has had, except for his 99 PontiacTrans Am that came with the factory optional Monsoon sound system. Bang Head  He has a Honda Accord now, and the radio from that one is sitting in a box not 5 feet from me.........like we are saving it for what????!!!!

V8Dennis,

Yes, it's deceiving clean look is what drew me in.Oops - Sign  The hood and hatch were the only rust free panels.  Underneath was like orange swiss cheese.Black Eye  There was a very small amount of metal that was still solid.

Laz,

It had 135,821 when I bought it last November, and 135,851 as it slid onto the flatbed last night.  Very $$ 30 miles.Bang Head

Good Afternoon Ya'll From Crystal Clear And High 70s Cape Ann,

Automotive aggravation.....my turn.  I took mine into the dealer (again) yesterday, about 20 miles each way, traffic was putrid.  Got my courtesy car, Chevy Equinox with 30K on the odometer, great on fuel econimy (30+ highway) and functionality but down on power, high on engine noise (RPM), and high on road noise.  Steering was too numb for my tastes.  But worth a look if you are looking for a smaller crossover vehicle with all-wheel-drive.

Anywho, this was a bringback to the dealer.  They "refixed" the sunroof (minor adjustment) but could not get the rear defroster working correctly, bottom half still dead.  So they had to order the rear hatch glass with the imbedded defroster, due in next week.  So my car issues are not yet all resolved. Bang Head  And I get to do it all over for a third visit.Thumbs Down  Warranty, thank goodness.Thumbs Up

JimSP........great news in on the wifey's foot. Thumbs Up  Those walking casts slow you down quite a bit and your foot gets itchy, but hopefully she will be as good as new in a few more weeks chasing you around.Laugh

Jeffrey.......sounds like you are getting stronger each day.Thumbs Up  If you need advive on professional loafing, let us know.  No charge.  We are experts! Whistling

MikeC......you have to admit, this news on Lucas is good.  Re moving furniture?  Better you than me. Laugh

JimmyT.......KEV is right.  We all own a car or three sooner or later that, despite all of the time and $ thrown at them, ya just can't get to where you need to be.  Eventually you realize you just have to take your lumps and get rid of it.  The wise move is to stop throwing good money after bad.  See below!!!!

BOC....... prayers continue Angelfor some great retests next week.  I am glad you are feeling better in the interim.Thumbs Up  Our offer to help you put back on some weight still stands. Stick out tongue

SJ........hope this morning's tests went well.  How do they test those things anyway?  Make you read your wife's honey-do list and see how high your pulse and blood pressure go?  Whistling

KEV......our rainfall is still woefully inadequate but better than yours and DougM's.  My experience has been with drought-affected trees is that the colors change earlier and the leaves drop earlier but they come back the following Spring as if nothing has happened.  Doug's silver lining in a dark cloud is dead on.....the reduction in grass mowing. Smile, Wink & Grin

RaySP......sounds like progress is moving along on the "wall/fence." Thumbs Up How much of your privacy do you expect to get back?

Re the cars we drove back in the early to mid 70s.  I had one friend with a 1972 914 in bright blue that he destroyed with a high speed detour off the road that hosptalized him.  Two friends got a 240Z when they first came out, a 1971.5 one in white (long gone) and the other a 1973 in orange (still has, dead in his garage).  My college roommate picked up a 1963 Jaguar XKE roadster that turned out to be a JimmyT rustbucket project he wisely sold a year later for more than he bought it for, then went out and got a clean 1966 E-type coupe he still has.  Me?  My 1969 Corvette I got in 1973 has been resting comfortable in my garage since 1993 awaiting massive amounts of lottery money to get it roadworthy again. Bang Head  Re the Opel GTs, imported through the Buick dealerships?  I liked them. Thumbs Up

Brutus........so what happens if you flunk a company-mandated certification test for a job you don't do or want to do? SurpriseBang Head  The news on your Mom was encouraging.Thumbs Up  One down one to go.  Prayers continue.  Hang in there, buddy.Angel

RT........sorry to hear about your wife's fall.  Hope she is feeling better.  Angel  You didn't leave the garden tools laying around outside, did you? Whistling

Chief.......I had one of those exact same "Duh" issues with my battery backed-up modem.  I didn't want a service tech out to the house, thought it was a dead battery even though the battery was only a year old and is supposed to recharge by itself.  Took the battery out and put it back in three times while receiving instructions over the phone.  Nothing!  Comcast agreed the battery was cooked and sent me a new one, free of charge.  Problem solved.  On another topic, first it was the Raleigh Mayor.  Now it is the DirecTV service guy.  Can you get nailed for influence peddling using tomatoes instead of $?  Whistling

LAZ and KEV.......there has been a solid resurgence in both bald eagles and hawks out here too.  A couple of folks got attacked in downtown Boston a couple of years back as the eagles have taken up residence on building ledges and in the bridges.  Here (North of Boston) the hawks can be seen high up, circling on wind drafts while looking for their next meal down below.  Thumbs UpDinner

Rich.........saw the interior pic of the MOPAR. Thumbs Up Did you say an August target date for streetworthy?

Dennis must be picking up the pace in preparation for his upcoming trip.

Gotta run, gang.

Good morning all,

Ready mix concrete footing was poured this morning for the block wall. First course of blocks going in as I speak.  Took 81/2 cubic yards to fill up trench.

Cooler weather expected for the next three days.  Good for workers outside.

Talked to my departed friend's wife yesterday.  She is doing pretty well.  Says her grandaughter is cleaning up Ed's layout and wants to run trains.  I will help her clean track and get it operational again.  It hasn't been run in months.  Ed's wife says she thinks the grandaughter is working herself through the grieving process for her grandfather by taking care of his trains.  They don't have to worry about disposing of his collection.  He did that some time ago but still has a few trains to run.

Laz, I like to see eagles too.  I saw a tree full of them in Alaska.  So many, I thought I was looking at white flowers on the tree but it was the eagles heads.  Good to see them back in the lower 48.

later,

Ray

Lunchtime,

The heat broke here in Jersey. Nice in the low 80's.

SJ, Hope your tests went well this morning.

Brutus, Good news on your Mom. Good luck with the refi.

BOC, Glad that you are doing better.

Jeffrey, Good luck with your health issues.

Laz, 128 days to go! Beer

Kev, Mike: My Dad bought a 1971 Opel Rallye to go back and forth to work with. It was a great car. It was getting pretty popular here. Do you recall what brought on the demise of the Opel in the USA? The cheap fuel lines with no clamps that they used in the late 70's. They used to come loose and yes, catch on FIRE. GM replaced the Opel with the "Opel Isuzu". (hope I spelled it right).

Everyone have a Great Day!

John

Good morning all,

Kevin, you had a 914?  I am so jealous.  That was about as close as I could ever get to owning a Porsche, but even that was out of reach.  Even now, the old ones are very pricey.  I used to race against Mantas when I did Showroom racing with the Pinto in SCCA.  They were in a different class, but they were always smooth.    Mike C. from Indiana

Yes Mike I did have a 914 in fact I had three of them in the mid 70s

The first one was a bright Blue 1971. I crashed it and after the repair it dogtracked so I sold it. Then I got a 1972 orange one for me and a 1971 gold one for my first wife. We used to tell people we had a front and rear Porsche at our house. They were prone to rust  but a blast to drive with that low CG and mid engine. I got to drive mine around a road course at a race track west of St.Louis once. We had a Mustang and a Vega for winter driving. Would of loved to had the 1970 with the 6 cylinder engine.

Good morning all,

Hot again in SE Indiana.  Wow. Mention a Manta, and I am shocked that anyone remembers them, let alone had one. Quiet night at home last night.  Closed the month at work today.  Should be quiet the rest of the week.  Game will be warm tonight.  Rented a truck for Lucas' move next week.  Will be interesting the next few weeks.  TBIL and I can drive after the game.  I hope everyone has a good day.

Keep on training,

It's a little cooler here but you'd have to put up with 80% humidity. Most yankees who move here tend to melt when they venture out during the summer for the first year or so.

I see my parts from Brasseur’s will be delivered today so I will be doing some train work in the basement where it will be cool. Yes

Brutus, BoA is one of the worse banks out there, Good luck with them. I have a Chase credit card… but other than that I do my banking with two small town banks. Walk in the door and they know you by name. It is a benefit of living in the sticks.

MikeC. I had forgotten there were ever Manta’s. I had a friend who had an Opel GT and we would race each other to work. Him in the Opel GT and me in my Porsche 914. It was a good match up. I remember I got pulled over one day and the cop told me to "Tell your friend in the Opel GT I will get him too"  Laugh

DougM, I have pulled the three large boxes of track for your picking. Wink

Chief, Did that MP-15 you have that quit running ever start back up when it cooled off?? Huh?

LAZ, there has been a big comeback of Bald Eagles along the IL. and Fox river valleys here. So we get a chance to see one once and awile flying overhead. So neat.

Have a good day and prayers for all in need.

Hi GUYZ,

WOW we went down to about 60 here!!!!  I ran a nice 3 miler then took the dog for another 6 mile walk.  Saw my first bald eagle on the Susquehanna this morning.  The picnic area in Millersburg known as MYO Park we usually walk there and Minnie chases the squirrels and rabbits there.  Today strange no birds, squirrels, or rabbits.  As we got closer to middle of the grove next to the river in a tree the eagle took off.  Went a short distance and landed in a tree again walk up on it and sure enough got a great look at it.  Fully matured Bald Eagle.  What a great way to start my day!  A real treat.

Today gotta sand and refinish outside swing.

JOED, Yes you hit it right on the head with your surmise of why we need that running fix.  Gives one time to do some reflection of the things that go on in our daily lives.  And also to figure out what to do next, with the help of the Almighty.  Heat and humidity are the worst sometimes but if there is a river or creek or some sort of body o water one can jump into right after your done it does do a great job to refresh you.  Some of my best runs were in Canada alongside the St. Lawerence Seaway, I 'd run early in the morning a 3-5 miler then run right down to the dock take off sneaks and shirt and dive right in.  Was the best and also made more room for beer that nite.

PROBE, WOW them brakes were shot!  At least it gave you a good ride for a few years and you did get to learn to fix stuff on it.  Good luck with the other one.

CHUCK, TRIBE beats Detroit.  That doesn't happen to much.

Stay frosty,

Aloha. Another beautifully hot and dry day. Rain missed us all around. Kev, our grounds look like yours too. Birches shedding leaves like fall. It's interesting to see what's doing well in this drought: anything with deeeeep roots like wisteria. Jim, you got a good run out of that Probe. MikeC, I didn't know anyone else who loved the Manta. I had one for a while. It was a solid car. No-one ever knew what it was. BoC, continued prayers for an all-clear. Brutus, your bank stinks - they really treat you poorly. Prayers for your mom's swift recovery.

Wish I lived closer to the Chief so I could get a bag of real tomatos too. Wink.  Haven't grown any for a while but they always taste better.

Off to church for a two-day planning meeting (I took the time off).

Good night all.  Internet and digial phone stayed down most of the day.  TWC came at 6 and "fixed" it.  When the new modem was installed [the old one came over with the Mayflower], the guy did not tell me it had battery backup.  The lady kept saying, " Unplug it for 30 seconds."  I had done that 4 times already.  Told her one green light stayed on.  Well, tech assistance does not know "doodly".  Tech showed up, showed me where the battery was, took it out while it was unplugged, put battery back in, plugged up modem and instant internet and phone. Bang Head I had stayed around most of the day waiting for the call for him to come by.  He lives in Rolesville and has been here before.  He left with a big bag of tomatoes and squash.

Been at Hunters Haven hanging slatwall.  Bows will go on one wall.  Long guns on the other behind the two pistol cases.

Kevin my last one was 3 years ago, the doc just wants a fresh look. And yes I have been putting it off. No I am not having chest pains..Thanks for asking.

The Dr. wants your Medicare and insurance money.  Like he did me.  He claimed he thought there were some restrictions and needed heart cath.  Everything wide open.  Should report him.  Would do no good.

Did get some Box work done and wires pulled out of the old layout.

Off to bed.

That's a neat thread, SJ!

Just checked the BoA website and it now says closing on refi on 7/31 - since that's about a week, i'm doubtful that that date is true.  We will contact the bank I guess.  It's ridiculous to me that it takes 3 months to refi a home loan, even with getting some money back out to upgrade and improve the yard etc.  Oh well, if this doesn't go through, we will be going to a new bank or something, this is like the last straw for us for BoA.

Tomorrow I have to take a certification test at work - for a job I don't do.  How great is that?  Oh well, I know I will be able to pass the knowledge, skills and abilities section.  The subjective section was created by managers and is probably not grounded in any reality that we understand.  That being the case, I hope I can come close enough on it.

Mom is doing great today!  I will stop tomorrow night on the way home and visit.

TARDIS is ready - please take me away!!!!!

RIP Chewy - best dog I ever had.

Hopefully this won't get deleted.

There is a thread on OGR titled How about telling a train story. It has some nice memory stories and worth taking a look at. You just can't help thinking of one of your own..S.J.
