In high school had bought a 67 Chevy II from a buddy that was just barely street legal. ( his father built it for the strip got tired of it wanted another car so gave to his son about year later his son a friend sold it to me) it had a 427 with quad deuces on it set to kick in depending how far your foot went down on the pedal and as a kid in high school I knew just where to get all 4 to kick in at the same time. To be honest I surprised I didn't kill my self in it and probably would if i had it today. lets advance about 5 years I was in navy about 22 or 23 years old I bought off of a shipmate who needed money a 67 mustang fastback with a 289 high performance engine in it, it was a quick car also. never had a problem lifting front wheels off the ground in either from a stop or at about 45 or less in the Chevy.

Well just ordered a table saw as they recommend cutting the lip on the boards that face the starting wall and along the one side wall where there is a lip on it also if I need to trim a piece down to fit at the end I will need it to do a nice even cut.

Well got into ww3 here tonight as wife asked wouldn't be easier on you to spend the $600.00 and have them come and install it. I blew a gasket as to me it comes across she doesn't think I can do it. To her she claims it just how tired I will be after doing it. My bottom line is why did I buy 2 saws and all as I want to do it as a learning curve so I can do the kitchen down the road also I want the pride of doing it your self. I also know it would be more than $600 as they would want to do the trim and charge for that also at there increased prices vice what I can get it at Lowe's or HD for.

Anyway not much else going on here. I won a gar-graves switch with DZ 1000 control and motor the other day they had it for $22 buy it now so figured go for it. Thats suppose to be here tomorrow.

Hope all had a good T.G.I.F. I'm working the weekend but off Monday and next weekend. will see may try to start the floor then, all depends what I have out of the den by then and whats left down there. I need to start working on that immediately when I get home at night between now and then. as its just a week away.

Talk to you all later. Had Talapi for dinner with some wheat bread and French style green beans. My diet is back on track just a step at a time. hope to be 20 lbs down soon sitting at 17 right now. next weigh in is next Thursday. ( I use a scale at work and do it on Thursday's as its the one day of the week I work every week. ) Talk to you all later. Have a good weekend all.

Jack,

The money hole club is better than the rust hole clubWhistling  I am glad it is gone.  What started as a fun project transformed into a burden.  My only regret is not really taking it around the block before it was towed out.Smile, Wink & Grin  A thrown rod or two would've made me feel better.

Got the latest control box for the 314AW yesterday.  Nicest condition yet.  No scratches or rust on the case unlike the last two that I had.

Also noticed my friends over in Malvern, PA were running a Christmas in July sale from the 24-26.  Used some of the money from the GL to get some stuff.Stick out tongue

TGIF boys!  Long week.  Took yatchet to a beachhead after work yesterday, and scraped the barnies off (bad this year).  Really liking the taste of Mich Ultra.  So far, lost 11# (slow and steady).

Fifepup had to apply the Coasties on-line, even though he tried to just talk to someone in person.  Why-oh-why can't people just answer a few questions...?  Our police department is dipping its big toe into these waters, and already I hear rookies telling people to file their complaints on-line.  And I fire back at them, people above their 20's want a real live cop at their door! That's why they "troubled" you.  So put down your i-pod, pick up your pen, and serve.

I am a dinosaur...Sigh

Good morning all,

Looks like the Pat and Ray cooking school is in session again.  I need to get back on that low carb diet too.  I make cauliflower South Beach "mashed potatoes" but have not tried potato salad with it.  What do you use for mayonaise?

Fence guys must have taken the day off today.  Almost 10:00AM and nobody here.  Nice of them to let me know if they're not working today.  Looks like a void behind the new wall on my side that needs to be filled in after job is done.  Have to scrounge for fill dirt.  I think neighbor has some from trench excavation on his side.

Had a small get together last night with a couple of friends to run trains and watch train videos.  Showed pictures of our departed friend from his circus days.  Was pretty tired so we did not stay late.  Went to bed early.

later,

Ray

Aloha. A beauty of a summer Friday. Bride and youngest have a summer flu or cold. Expect the youngest to be better by the time he and I head up to Michigan's UP next week. Thanks for asking after them, Brutus!  SJ, Summer is going by too fast! Can you believe with the drought I have cut the grass once in the past two months.

While digging through the cupboards looking for gondolas I found two old Bachmann 50' flatcars. Two twenty-eight foot containers plus two flatcars equals problem solved. One of the flats had two twenty foot containers on it. They got stuffed into an old Tyco gondola. They both fit perfectly and look good there.

 RockIsland52:

My Dad and I went out shopping for his next new car in the Fall of 1966 when the 67s were out.  $3,400 could put you in a brandy new 67 GTO with the 389 and the 335hp and A/C!!!

Jack, not to put you out but.... 1966 was the last year for the 389cid engine. In 1967 theye were 400 cid with 335 or 360hp. I had a 1967 for 23 years. Also I got another for restore parts. I also gave my wife a 1965 but it had no engine when i got it so I installed a Pontiac 350HO with a 2V carb.

I must have been so excited my Dad would even be looking at a GTO that I didn't realize I was looking at leftover but new 1966s.  The sales guy was dealing, and he had my Dad's ever value-conscious practical ear.  Conversely, I also think my Dad was planning ahead.......I was to get my drivers' license in six months and he knew boys would be boys, that a GTO might be too tempting for me to do something stupid. Bang Head.  He had been a Chrysler guy since before I was born.  To my utter youthful dismay, we left the Pontiac dealership and next visited a Chrysler/Plymouth dealership.

You guessed it.  Dad wanted a Chrysler product all along.  He did let me pick out the Plymouth Sport Fury color which was a dark maroon with the black interior.  Also, the "fast top" roof line, the buckets with the center seat/armrest arrangement ( 3-spd shifter on the column, he would have no part of a manual transmission).  Dad acquiesced to one of the optional engines, the Commando 383 2 barrel that didn't put out a ton of horsepower but had gobs of torque and could move that 3,600 pound car pretty good, albeit a couple pounds heavier than the GTO.

I wasn't exactly the envy of my high school friends but was riding close enough......when he's let me use the car.  And when he did, that was an inviolable privilege with strict.  By the way, my Dad would not permit me to own a car while living under his roof.  Bang Head  School was all that mattered to him while girls and cars mattered more to me.  He won that battle.

I find these exchanges on the autos of our youth fascinating.  And to JummyT, welcome to the money hole club! Thumbs UpLaugh

Later, gang.

Good morning all,

Not much going on today. We ended up with 2/10 of a inch of rain yesterday. Not much help if any. Sad

Joe, Too bad you missed out on the great cars but if I recall that Richard Petty Grand Prix was a cool car. I thought it had a super charger or turbo if I remember. Confused

Good to see you back Bob. Hope you got some sleep. Zzz

BOC, I sure wish we had a LHS around here.  Yeah

Sounds like a good project for you today SJ.

Chief must be someplace getting free eats.  Dinner Again!

My last year of high school I was riding on top of the world. A 1969 Shelby GT 350. How cool is that? Yes

Have a great day.

It's 71 and overcast. Going into the 80s today.

The Tardis guys  got on and off at different stops last night but I still got in some good chat time. I am trying to install a new aluminum boarder around the back yard garden. They are 16 feet long and will interlock but I can't get them the way I would like as granny wants to keep the decorative brick that is already there. So I am trying to install these things behind the bricks. Oh well I'll keep at it a little at a time. Why you ask, well the bricks are not secured in place so every year we have to reset them up straight. I am hoping the alum. border will keep the bricks from moving so much...S.J.

Hi GUYZ,

Big storms here last night and into tis morning.  We got some much needed rain. Ran a easy 2 miler then took MINNIE down to the river for her 6 mile walk.  Now gotta make eye of the round and put in crock pot for supper tonite. WINGS and YUENGs were good last nite.

SJ, like JOEY D, never smoked but was hooked on smokeless tobacco for about 14 yrs.  Heck even chewed side chew when I played football in college.  Then one day quit cold turkey and never went back.  Never had to buy the tobacco either, cousin ran all the convienance store in town and got free samples every month by the boxfull.  Still best thing I ever quit.

Good morning. It's 74° with 100% humidity. The high will be 95° but will feel like 107°. There's a small chance of rain.

Today I'll be looking through my collection of freight cars for a gondola suitable for carrying a twenty-eight foot container. The length doesn't concern me. The width is the primary factor.  I have two Athearn gons that you'd think would be perfect for carrying an Athearn container. Not so. They're too narrow and the container must be forced in. Right now the container in question is sitting in an old Bachmann hopper that still has truck mounted couplers. Kadee's but truck mounted nonetheless. Lacking another well car I feel a gon would be more appropriate.

Hello all

Got a bit behind again on the pot. Couldn't sleep tonight, so I thought I'd see what's been going on.

Chief - good on ya' for the diet

BoC - continued thoughts and prayers

John - prayers for your friend in the accident

SJ  - take it easy and good attitude

Couldn't resist responding to the old car stories. Haven't owned many V8's, actually only one. But what a one it was. '75 Coupe de Ville w a 500ci and T400 trans. Came stock w/ a 650 CFM Quad w/ unbelievably large secondaries. A rear axle I couldn't get my fingers around. Not exactly fast as the car weighed in @ 6500 lbs. The horsepower was only rated just over 200, but I think it was intentially underrated for emissions. But 385 foot pounds of torque. Just 15 shy of the Cummins turbo diesel I owned once. Largest engine they ever put in a car or light truck stock I believe. I bought it for $150 in 2001 and drove it away after installing a battery. Was kinda of turning in into a Gasser before I got rid of it. When I first bought it I was thinking "you know it's not really that fast for being such a big engine". Then I replaced the timing set, distributor w/ stuck advance weights, and rebuild the carb. I distinctly remember the sound and feel the first time I stepped on it and opened the  secondaries after that work. Yeahhh.

Time to try and get some sleep.

Brief drop in temperature here today, and got a little rain this morning.

Really busy at work lately.  Mainly vegging once I get home, so not much train activity.

About all for now.

Konnichiwa,

I know SJ loves summer, but the heat and humidity out here are killing me.  I had a grueling four-mile run this morning.  I’m certain I lost five pounds in sweat alone.  I just finished lunch and will be finishing my work tasks so I can leave the office a bit early today.  The wife will be joining some other ladies tonight for a culture club dinner off base.  The culture club allows the Americans here to get to know the Japanese culture better.  I know she will have fun; I can’t wait to find out if she eats anything unusual.

SJ – I had the Indians-Tigers game on earlier.  The Indians came from behind but I did not see if they held on to win.  I hope your doctor does not recommend anything too drastic.  I never smoked cigarettes but I used smokeless tobacco for many years (over 15).  I quit when our Princess was born and it was very difficult; however, I think it might be harder to give up banilla. Crying

As for cars: I missed the heyday of great cars.  I did not own my first car until I was married in 1994.  We bought a 1992 Pontiac Grand Prix (Richard Petty Edition).  It was fun to drive.  In high school I used my parents Chevy Cavalier (4-door) – I wasn’t turning any heads in that thing unless they were laughing at me.  Laugh

Sayonara,

Joe

Prayers for BoC and for John's friend.  Yeah, we will stick this out, but it is sure frustrating?  Laz - wings and Yuengs sounds great to me!  I wanna go to Bandana's tomorrow for dinner, which is a local BBQ joint.  Just one more day until the weekend Thumbs Up  Doug - hope Kelly and Benzilla are okay too!  TARDIS is OUT, Go!

RIP Chewy - best dog I ever had.

Time for me to call it a night. I took care of the problem with the top heavy well car by removing the top two containers. I put into other cars. One is in a forty foot gon and the other is in a specially prepared forty-two foot hopper. I don't think the railroads ever one like that but it works for me until I find another gon that doesn't look like a toy. See y'all tomorrow.

It's 72 and we had a lite shower about an hour ago. It's already gone. I always felt eating small portions and not often   was not going to hurt you. Mahaps I was wrong, Don't know yet. I will go crazy if he puts me on a diet. Would be like trying to quit smoking. I did do that in 85 though. Banilla is waiting and so is the last Friday of July 2012..S.J.

Good attitude, SJ!!!!!!!!  The lawn mowing along with the monitor will give the Docs some idea of whats going on (and when) during your normal routine.  Hopefully they will prescribe more train running and banilla.

It is fun to hear everyone's car stories. There were some real beauties out there.  My favorite was a '73 Dodge Charger I bought at auction for $300. It was a great car.

Meanest car I had was a '68 Dodge Coronet. It had a 426 with a high rise cross ram intake, dual Holley quads, four speed auto tranny I put in it, two speed rear end. The exhaust system was headers, Thrush header mufflers and drag pipes. I nearly went deaf driving it. It knew three speeds. Dead stop, blazing fast and with the rear end in high gear, hyperspace. I never tried seeing if it would lift the front wheels but it would outrun a Vette like nobody's business. It passed everything but a gas station.

Sounds like one heck of a ride. Those days were fun. I never had anything that could lift the front wheels or do better than the low 13s

Most ridiculous car I ever owned was a full race '71 Challenger with a '68 Stage II 426 Hemi.  What gas milage?  Laugh  Frames were tied, dual Holley Blue fuel pumps and Hooker Headers with header mufflers no other pipes.  We took the cage out but it only had 2 seats and the radio was....redundant.  The challenger was so brutally loud, even at max volume, you couldn't hear it.  Jus a cursory rug covered the bare steel floor.  Two Tone brown with metallic.  Even pulled the front tires off the ground.  Fastest car I ever owned, just a tick faster (11.10's @120) than my '70 road runner C/S 440 6 pak (11.5 @115).  And that, my friends, is a WHOLE other story.  I even scared 3 454 Chevelles off.  They thought I had a 360 4 bbl.  Money changed hands and they wanted to see the supposed small block.  That full chrome round air cleaner and plug in valve covers put the yellow streak on their backs, pronto.  Left with more gas money in my pocket to feed the beast.  And, yes, we tired th ol' Shelby trick, trying to catch a $20 off the dash during full tilt accel.  Never paid out a dime.....Laugh

Very humid and hot here, work is miserable.

Drill tonight then early bed.  Check back later!

Aloha. Thundery today but no rain. Back from two days of planning meetings at church. Lots of energy but it's still a long time. Youngest is ill and bride isn't feeling well so there may be a bug going around. Kev, thanks about the track. I'll converse with the bride when I return from camp in the UP. SJ, prayers for you.
