Lunch time, Egg Rolls. Dinner

Yesterday we went to my son’s in Oswego to visit with the two grandkids that had birthdays in the past week. Grandson’s was on the 3rd now a big 2 and granddaughter at an even bigger 12 years old yesterday. After that we went to the rehabilitation home that is also in Oswegoand saw the MIL. She is doing very well for someone 85. She was very happy to see that we had the great granddaughter Leix with us. Sounds like they want to keep her in rehab at least another week. We will see.

Well I got the mower off, and the loader and grader on the tractor but it has not stopped raining long enough to do any lane repairs yet.  Whistling

Have a good afternoon.

DJ Spanky – That is a very cool kite.

Sadly we didn't even have a breeze yesterday, so it wasn't worth taking the kites out.  Tyler was really upset, but there wasn't a whole lot I could do.  We'll shoot for next weekend.

Best place to fly a kite:  Mackinac Island.

John prayers for jean. Prayers for the rest that need them.

well for train activity I put together a oval I only had 4 sections of O-42 curve so I went one O-42 and then one O-31 then a small straight all the way around till I got the oval built. Put one of my NYC GP-9's on it and a flat car with heavy equipment load that I had made up back some times ago and a NYC pacemaker Boxcar and a NYC caboose table is basically 4' sq.

Hi guys, Been busy for a couple of days. We had the granddaughter over the weekend so the daughter and future SIL could get the house they are moving into painted and ready. Wow can an 18-month-old wear you out. I slept like a rock last night. Sleep Zzz

Rain, Lightning  Lightning  Feast or Famine here: Last night what a rain. I had 2.6" of rain in the gauge when I went to bed and this morning there was more than 5.5" showing but it only reads to 5.5" so we got more that 3" for sure.  Surprise

I did a lane check and it is washed out in only two of the usual places but I will need to pull off the mower deck and put the loader and grader blade on the tractor to do repairs. That is if it stops raining long enough to get it done. Huh?

John, Prayers for Jean. Angel

Prayers for DougDG, Jack. Roy, Ray and your foot too Jeffery. Angel

I will catch up later,

Have a great day al!!!

Good morning. Well I guess that's open to debate. It's 73° and mostly cloudy. The high will be 88° and partly cloudy with a 20% chance of showers and thunderstorms.

Well last night I got the bleeding problem with my foot taken care of but another problem cropped up. My diverticulitis has flared up again and my chances of getting a good nights sleep went down the crapper quite literally. More than half the night was spent on the throne and I got no sleep whatsoever. In most cases people with this have pain and swelling on the right side of the colon, some have it on the left side. I'm one of the unfortunate few who has it on BOTH sides. I have to take medication for it every day, not just when it flares up. The meds are supposed to limit the severity of it. Much of today will be spent not far from the bathroom. In addition to the loose stool it also causes lots of gas and bloating. I really hate it. If it follows it's usual course in a few days I'll probably be constipated. So the regimen for today is going to be drinking lots of water as I'm already somewhat dehydrated. I'm nauseous but haven't had any vomiting. I rarely do in these cases. That's probably the rest of the week ruined but maybe I'll get lucky and it'll pass in a couple of days. No layout work today obviously. I hope I don't have to go anywhere.

Aloha from a grey and wet Chicago. Made it to work! Now have to find a box or something to rest my leg on - hmmm, maybe this old computer...Read the new Trains mag on the commute in and got in a nice conversation with an fellow enthusiast. (I will look for him later in the week to give him the mag). Nice ride on the Tardis last night too! JoeD, I hope the Tokyo tornado was far from you! Praying for healing to Jean, Ray, Jeffrey, DougDG and Jack. Roy, I'd like to ask you a question about how you fixed your leaking faucet off-line if that's OK.

Konbanwa,

The weather was very nice today.  I woke up early and enjoyed an easy three-mile run.  The workday flew by and we have been enjoying a nice evening.  I’m still grieving the Yankees loss of Rivera for the season.  I’m hoping he is able to heal and play again next year as he is remarkable to watch.  I saw the article about Goober dying.  Last week it was Junior Seau and this past weekend a musical pioneer of my generation died: Adam Yauch (aka MCA) of the Beastie Boys.  I no longer listen to that type of music but I remember how profound the Beastie Boys were during my youth, adolescent, and young adult years.  It’s time to read the paper and the next chapter in my textbook.

Doug M. – I’m glad you are up and about.  I hope the healing continues well.

DJ Spanky – That is a very cool kite.

John F. – I hope Jean is feeling better.

Jeffrey – I hope your foot is under control.

Laz – Did you take any photos?  I will have to check out that loco and yard the next time I am visiting the family in Shenandoah.  Port Clinton and Minersville are very close to Shenandoah.

Sayonara,

Joe

Hi GUYZ,

Went to Cabelas yesterday and got my new grill.  It was regular price of $329, with coupon 299 with gift card 274 with Cabelas points on card $20 bucks!  No bad.  Plus they gave me 20 more points on my card.  Great deal, also picked up some bug spray and jerky.  Came home put grill together then took dog for walk.

Also got to visit the Reading Blue Mountain rail yards in Port Clinton and also see the 0-6-0 NJC restoration in Minersville.  Pretty neat stuff.

JOHN F, prayers for JEAN hope all is well.

Stay frosty,

Evening all nothing big happening today. I did 12 hrs ( 4 OT) now relaxing off tomorrow and then next weekend  Thumbs Up.

Just put a pizza in the oven been about a 2 weeks since I had pizza.

well made a loop on the table again it has two corners opposite from each other O-42 curves and the other two corners are O-31 I'm thinking of changing it to a O-42 curve and then a O-31 curve in each corner.

I want to put a 4 x 8 on top of that table and build a frame from the table out to the end of where the 4 x 8 will reach then put indoor/outdoor green carpet on top of that and put down a beginning of a layout even thou I really want to do O-54 on my out side curves and don't have them or flex track to make them at the moment but that will becoming down the road shortly.

I basically have just enough track to make the loop for the 4 x 8 but at least thats a start and gives me some idea on where I want to go from there know I need to buy some switches but that will be down the road also but at least I can start planing where they are going to go.

well waiting for the crew talk to you all later

Jeffrey, glad you cleared up the Athearn weight.  I remember those when I was in HO.  Puts lot of weight on driving wheels.  Athearn was about all I ever had back in the 60's except a few brass steam engines by PFM/Tenshodo etc.  Those were state of the art then.  Did have a Varney 10 wheeler though.  They called it a screwdriver kit.  Not that easy for me at that stage.  Wound up getting some help to put it together and eventually replaced Japanese motor with a Pittman.  Ran good after that.

When I was much younger, back in the 70's somewhere, I had some Mantua steamers with the Pittmann motors. They ran good but I got complaints from the parents about them tearing up TV reception. That wasn't much of a problem after my father had some kind of filter put on the TV. A couple other steamers I had were from Bachmann. I had lots of diesels. They were mostly from Tyco, Bachmann, Cox/Athearn.

John, best wishes for Jean.   Hope it's nothing serious.  I hear you about wanting the septic system to last a few more years.  I felt the same way about my roof.  Finally bit the bullet and got a first class job for mega bucks but it will last longer than me now.

Just picked up some farm raised salmon for dinner tonight but not cheap.  Still cheaper than eating out and safer too.  Why is it that every time I get a yen for something it is not on sale?  I guess that's the way it works or Murphy's law or something.

I'm being nice to my stomach in hopes of getting better sooner.

Warm weather here today.  Bulletin at church says that we are losing another priest in July.  Moving on to another assignment.  Guess we have been lucky in the past but last few years have seen a lot of changes.

Next week is Mother's Day I think followed by #1 son's birthday on May 30th.  Just had wife's birthday in April.  Too many occasions too close together.

Good evening all,

Ray

70 this morning with sun, 68 now and cloudy with rain expected before morning. We arrived at Greenfield Village about 9:15 and left at 4:45. So it was a full day. I enjoyed watching the kids watch the trains. Yes there were frisky hands that caused some derailments but no harm done. The village has 2 steamers and 1 Baldwin being rebuilt. They also have a Plymouth engine like the one K-Line made in running condition. The live steam Thomas engine ran all day with each ride booked full..I'm gonna rest awhile and mayhaps have some Banilla latter..S.J.

Well plans changed and ended up repairing a leaking outdoor faucet. Was able to put new packing and a washer on it. So far so good.

Also watched NASCAR on and off. Some good guys got eliminated today.

Goober passed away this morning Sigh

Hello all,

Day started off on the wrong foot.  Jean woke up feeling very dizzy.  She is not sure if it was vertigo, which she gets from time to time, or the new blood pressure medicine she was prescribed.  Will be calling the doctor in the morning.

The weather here has been off and on clouds and sun, right now it is clouds.

Not doing a whole lot with the lawn/garden as we will be installing a new septic system this summer and a lot of the lawn will be destroyed in the process.  The old system is about 60 years old so can't complain to much.  Just wish it had lasted another 20 years. Sleep

All have a great week ahead.

An explanation of the subject I used for this mornings photo. I know it looks like an Athearn mechanism. It isn't. You have to look closer. The weight on it is for an Athearn F7 but had to be filed to fit the frame it's on. The flywheels, shafts and worms are the newer Athearn 'hex' drive type. The motor is Proto Power West from A-Line. The trucks are Proto 1000 AAR and the frame (are you ready for this?) is a modified Stewart/Kato frame. The loco is DCC. There's a Bachmann decoder mounted under the far end of the weight just above the rear truck. The body shell for it is a Proto 2000 F3B shell. This is truly a 'junk box special'.

Good afternoon everyone.  Just a quick stop over as I am actually at the computer to do some work.  It was a long week with some very complex procedures.  This was all followed up with my having to photograph my daughter's ballet recital practice and all the others.  This is actually a paid gig, so they expect results.  There is non stop action between behind the stage and on the stage to get.  Took over 3800 photos and now I have to edit them so they can make posters and advertisements.  Then, I get to do it all over again next weekend.  Happy Happy, Joy Joy!  Should be good.

Church was great this morning, but I was on camera and now my back hurts.  I know, complaining will get me nowhere.  Lots to get done, and I better get to it.

Hope each of you has a blessed week ahead.

Dennis

Aloha.  Up and about today for the first time in a week. Hope to go to work tomorrow!  SJ, how was the Thomas modules?  That's a beauty of a display cabinet Jim.  Rich, I heard Thantos shows his face...! Hope to celebrate my 18 year old tonight with a few men. Have a nice  home-made book to give him. Big Smile

DougM,,,,,,,  Thumbs UpThumbs UpThumbs Up with the good news all of the way around.  Wish I had done that......a night out with my boy on his birthday when he turned 18.  The women in the family had other more grandiose plans for the event. Bang Head  Bet he doesn't remember the occasion a lick.  You're a great Dad!!!

Some great cabinet work there, JimmyT!   Glad to hear the shifting linkage was moved off to another home.

Wife and I have been feeling much better yesterday and today.........thank you for the words of encouragement.

Shepherds' pie is in the oven, and then it is off to NH for dog training.  Probably should lay low, but the weather outdoors is too good to pass up after the past week of rain and crud.  The grass, weed wacker, and the lawn mower are calling me.  Bang Head  Nitrogen enriched rainwater can't be beat.

Later, gang.

Afternoon all!

Cloudy, warm, & humid. 90's today (too soon).

Have done some chores this morning and relaxing with the NASCAR pre-show.

Working on plans for a garden shed in the far back yard. Will use the landscape blocks from the old beds/tree rings (from front yard) as a foundation.

Maybe some fence staining today.

Have a great day all!

Morning all,

I bailed out of going to the train meet today.  Just church and take it easy after that.  Still slowly on the mend but trying not to upset the apple cart.

My two sons tried to go to the Fullerton Railroad Days celebration yesterday.  The plan was to ride light rail to downtown L.A., then take Metrolink train to Fullerton.  However, the light rail got delayed because of overhead wire problems so they missed their connection in L.A.  They decided to just make a day of it riding some of the newly opened light rail lines here and visiting a museum near USC.  They had lunch near Union Station Downtown at a famous sandwich place called Phillpe's right down the street.  They always have a display of O gauge trains there too.

Doug in Sandy Eggo, hope you are feeling well these days.  Like to meet you if I ever get back down there again.

D.Baker, any more adventures at Knott's lately.  Maybe one a month was enough.

V8 Dennis, what's the weather report?  Looks like the rainy season is over.

later,

Ray
