Good morning. It's 73° and cloudy. The high will be 88° and it'll be partly cloudy.

Well in a little while I'll go check on my mother and see if she needs anything. Later I'll be seeing how some structures look in the area recently vacated by the Shell Service Center. That structure will soon be on it's way north to a new home in Iowa.

Time for me to call it a night. Had to go to the post office today to try straightening out a problem. Seems a package I sent to New York ended up in North Carolina! The postal service says they'll track it down and get it to where it needs to go. The contents of the package are rather expensive so I'm not a happy camper. I can't always get insurance on package contents as it's sometimes a stretch to pay the postal fees. I'm a very poor person. I have to look up through a powerful telescope to see the poverty line!

See y'all tomorrow.

Kev,

That was thoughtful of you to send it via UPS to the Chief.Wink  He won't have to tenderize it after they drop it, kick it, and trample it.  Straight from the box to the grill.Laugh

Bob,

Wow. Thumbs Up  Very clean.  I can't even find a twenty year old car that clean.Sad  I would've never guessed that is a Corvair.  When I think Corvair, the beat yellow convertible that Wayne drove on The Wonder Years comes to mind.

Jack,

           Hope you feel better.

Spank,

I've been trying to find time to measure the cases that I made, but have been swamped.  Send me an email to remind me and I'll get back to you asap.

I managed to sell the MGW shifter on ebay the other night.  Sold 13 minutes after I listed, and got $200 of the $260 back.Thumbs Up

I was going to buy a 671 Turbine ('47 variant) from some "friends" of RT and myself with some of the money, but someone beat me to it.  Probably a good thing considering the rep of these "friends" with us.  I'll have to check out American Muscle now.Laugh

Gave the 91 GL a quick wash yesterday for the first time.  Really cleaned up well, and I was suprised.  Just needs brakes and it should be ready for inspection.

Angel for anyone I missed.

Feeling some better this afternoon.  Got the blood work done but drug store did not have whatever the doctor prescribed.   He told me to just take over the counter Mylanta.  Works for me.  Ran trains a little this afternoon.  Parked the modern trains and ran my newly aquired WBB 4-6-0 with woodsided passenger cars.  Whistle sounds pretty good but is way too loud.  No way to adjust volumn.  Maybe I could just muffle the speaker in the tender.  Might try to take a walk if my body cooperates.  On second thought, think I should just lay low today.

Called friend in Sacramento this AM but he is in Maryland.  Called his home phone and he answered it in Maryland?  Maybe I had his cell number.  He was baby sitting grandkids so not much time to talk.

later,

Ray

Good morning all,

Got a call back from family physician's office this morning.  He wants me to discontinue using a satin drug for one week, get a blood test and pick up a prescription for stomach distress.  However, got to get my system under control before I can do that.  Got the runs this morning but no pain.  Maybe the whole thing might turn out to be the flu.  Had a pretty good day yesterday though.

KRM, good luck with the racoons.  That fellow in your trap looks a lot like a possom. I would catch them too when I tried to trap a coon.  Last time I got a skunk, twice.  Gave up trapping after that.  Can't use a gun because in the city.  I have nothing left here that the racoons want but the possums still dig up the yard looking for grubs and so do skunks.

Jack, keeping loaded gun for protection is better if you need to use it but there are risk involved as with anything.  No good answers.

Ran some trains yesterday afternoon.  Made some minor repairs on piggy back trailer landing gear. Need some more crazy glue.

Got to run now, poster boy for Imodium A.D.

Lunch Time:

Not a bad day. Some showers, cool and cloudy, but quiet.

Submmbob, You make Ernie Kovacs proud with the Corvair. I find it hard to believe that a 47 year old car has rust. Whistling I have a Rustang the same vintage. I fixed many rusty Corvairs also. It looks like it is in great shape. Enjoy it.

RI Jack: Did they at least buy you dinner?

Traindood, This summer I will "kidnap" AF53 and head up North.

Kev: Good luck coon hunting. Good thing it is not the "Wascley Wabbit".

Jeffrey: I like your take on the racoon.

Chief: they will never listen and they just do what they want to. MIL were but on earth to drive us nuts and when they are gone, we really miss them.

Thoughts and prayers for all in need. It seems that the list is getting bigger lately.

Have a Great Day,

John

Hello all

TGIF!!!!!!!!!

Looking forward to the weekend. My butt is still dragging from loss of sleep due to storms. Lots of stuff needs done but I'm gonna try to catch up on sleep and go to the Hillclimb on Sunday.

Mrs announced as we were getting ready for work this AM "Only 21 days to go" I think the only one happier than her is LAZ.

The hay is a little on the short side but going in to head so it's time to make hay. Only two or three weeks early. Haven't planted corn yet.

SS fund calls.

Prayers for those in need.

Chief, I wanted to cheer you up.

So I packed your favorite meal up and have it on the way to the lake house so you can grill it up. I sent it UPS ground so it can be nicely aged by the time you get it. Dinner

After you grill it up you will have no need for medicine.  Smile, Wink & Grin

Anyhow all you gals and guys feeling down, prayers you get better soon. Angel

Jeffery , they are smart little devils they are.

Oh, how well I know! We had a few out here twenty some years ago that figured out how to turn off the power to a set of electrified garbage cans so they wouldn't get electrocuted when they went foraging. Well, my father took an empty Spam can and made a hinged cover to go over the switch so they couldn't turn it off. That switch was (and still is) in an out building that has it's own breaker box. An open type with no cover. The little cusses couldn't turn off the switch so they climbed up on the water tank and jumped to the breaker panel and knocked the breakers to off until the lights went out. Well that only happened one night! Next day we put some chicken wire over the breaker box. A few nights later the coons came a calling. It wasn't long before we started hearing some horrifying shrieks! The next morning we found two dead coons. One was by the building door. It had tried to bite through the wires and got a real charge out of it. The other was at the side of the cans apparently having climbed up and gotten electrocuted. We knew there were at least four but as far as I know the others never came back.

Good morning. It's 74° and cloudy. The high will be 88° and it'll be partly cloudy.

No plans for today. I'm not feeling well this morning so I'm just taking it easy. Had to go to town this morning to turn in a couple of library books I forgot I had. The library hadn't yet opened but there's that convenient book drop outside. Just drive up and drop the books in. From there it was on to the store to pick up some items I didn't get yesterday. Got back home before 9 o:clock. Already called down to my parents place and checked on my mother. She's able to get around and care for herself now as long as she doesn't try to push it. So that's pretty much my day so far.

MorningEyes crusted and nose too.  Slept til 7 and then reclinerized until now.  Coffee didn't help.  A good shower and shave will help.

Doug, Brutus and 8N's Mom, get well.

Bob, great car.  Loved my Corvairs.  Keep her running.

We all know what Kev is having for dinner tonight. Whistling

Biggest projects:  Mow here and get Grady to finish Box ceiling.  Then pack and go to lake house and MOW.

All you workers, have a great Friday.  You've done a great job for my SS.

Later.

PS: Wifey has taken MIL to mall for shopiing and lunch.  MIL always parks her car right in front of double gates to fenced backyard.  Good thing I do not need to get in and out and mower will just squeeze through other gate.  Mentioned that over and over to no good. Bang Head

Mark, Brain, and I, ( I watched and handed out the beer) Beer rebuild the chimney’s siding yesterday. Good things too, there were two logs that were in pretty bad shape. We replaced them and re-stained the whole thing. I think we did a much better job than the original contractor who just threw it up and never sealed any of the seams that let the water get in there. Yes

Big storms last night  Lightning got one shot off at a raccoon but he got away. Sad

Trap worked last night but not with the expected outcome. See attached "before" picture below. I won't post the "after" Surprise

Chief we don’t have moonshine this far north.  Laugh

Get better Brutus  Angel

8N, why do they only break down when you need them? Huh?

Bob, nice Corvair, if there is such a thing. My first car was a 1960 Corvair 4 door with auto shifter on the dash and a gas fired heater. It came with all of the described oil leaks. Whistling

Hello all

Fairly quiet night up here on the mountain. Woke up feeling pretty tired and like allergies were affecting me. Doing better now but thankfully there haven't been a lot of trips up and down the stairs.

Doug - hope your leg is doing better

DougDG - thoughts and prayers for your friend

Chief - sounds like you got a good deal. Now don't try to do everything @ once.

OK, so here's a pic finally of the "new" car:

1965 Chevrolet Corvair 4 door hardtop w/ powerglide trans. Found it up in Casa Grande (~100 mi). It's in pretty good shape. Originally came from Missouri (hello Brutus!) so it has a small amount of rust in  a couple of the known problem areas for these cars, but nothing bad. My friend from the Corvair club have been dialing in the dual carbs and dealing w/ a few oil leaks. The pushrod seals are the original neoprene type which couldn't take the heat and created the various leaks these cars are known for. They came up w/ viton seals which do a much better job. The  4dr hardtops were only made in the later models for only 3 years so this is a bit of an uncommon car. Most were the coupes. Should be a good daily driver, especially given as much as I drive. And it is fun to drive. It came straight piped, and that was fun for about 10 minutes. Was giving the Harley guys at the club a run for their money. Now has dual glass packs welded in.

Mix of clowds and sun today.  Temps in the high 80's.

Made a trip to Michigan earlier this week.  Went with mom to an orthipedic doctor to talk about a knee replacement.  Her PT has reached a plato - her knee is limiting progress.  A cortizone shot in March allowed her to walk with a walker for a few days. Looks like fixing the knee is the next step. We will see.

Was an interesting trip.  The minivan overheated about 40 miles from our destination.  The tow truck driver asked us what part of Missouri we were from.  When we said Sedalia, he replied that he knew where it was.  A little later we passed one of the new Ford police cars, I mentioned that we made the wheels.  The driver then starts talking about the Sedalia guys that worked at the wheel plant he used to meet with at various NASCAR races.  Turns out I know and have worked with at, one time or another, most of the guys he met at the races!  Small world.

The cause of the minivan overheating was the pipes leading to the rear heater core were corroded and picked that time to burst.  Repair at the dealer was $510 - a little over $200 in parts, a little over $200 for labor, and an initial $89 diagnostic fee.  Wonder if I got the out of state 'discoount' since I was from out of state and had a car that didn't run that I needed to get home in..........

Still not running 100% from the bug I picked up on Easter weekend, but am feeling much better.

Some Lionel stuff I have on order from the LHS is due in this week.  Looking forward to see what it is.

All for now.

Hey Kev - missed you tonight, sorry!

Roy and John and Doug - prayers for you and yours!  Doug, we are working on it.  He get's it, but then he does it again.  Last time they found the homework, but he didn't put his name on it when he had handed it in....  I wasn't a perfect kid/student either and I turned out okay I guess, but just hoping for him to do as well as he can do.  Man, went to bed last night and didn't feel well - sweated up a storm and kept waking up all night.  I guess I'm fighting off some bug, 'cause I felt low and slow all day today with a headache too.  Sure hope it's a 24 hour deal!  Chat with SJ perked me up, but I'll head to bed now - I'll catch up tomorrow on all the posts.  TARDIS - take me away!

RIP Chewy - best dog I ever had.

Time for me to call it a night. This morning I helped my father clean up scrap metal debris in the backyard from where the burn pile was moved. Wheel rims, mattress springs, metal fittings from old furniture, etc. Rather he picked the stuff up. I just drove the tractor pulling the trailer he was tossing it all into. It was a lot of work but it'll make it easier to mow that part of the yard. Oh, what happened to the burn pile? It was dumped into a low spot at the edge of the marsh to help build up that part of the yard. Afterward we went to Wal-Mart to get some shopping done. Going with him saved me from using my own gas. No layout work today. See y'all tomorrow.

71 now, the 90 degrees we had today have created some storms. It's raining here but nothing violent at this time. I had three skin biopsies today, will have to wait a couple weeks for the results. We went to lunch after and one of them started bleeding. I couldn't get it to stop so we went back to the doc for repairs. All is well now. Son-in-law came by tonight and we rehung the shades on the new windows. They replaced the old moldings and that changed the shade size to too long. Had to do a little chisel work....Chat coming soon if storms don't get too bad..S.J.
