Good Morning from Blueberryhill RR....

It is a beautiful morning. Sunny and 60 degrees. Going up to 75 today with sunshine.

Thanks for the Birthday wishes, Guys. I really appreciate your friendship.

I told the wife that I was taking it easy today, for my birthday. She replied " What else is new ?" LOL

Today, I will run trains and enjoy my new passenger cars that my lovely wife bought me for my birthday. I will post pictures later.

Dining car is here with Cheerios for breakfast. We ran out the other day and a big box car rolled in with "Cheerios" on the side. We have plenty now.

Y'all have a great Thursday. I will.

Evenin' All.

Happy B'Day Toots and many more to come! CakeThumbs Up

Yesterday was CHF Support Group meeting, went well with the RN's emphasising the importance of reading labels and making wise choices. They seemed a bit surprised that I am being so restrictive of sodium content, cardiologist used 1500 mg as a guide but my target is 1200 per day. Some days I win  some I don't but overall as an average I'm staying pretty close. Had to make a change in some of my meds today, after almost a year was starting to get some side effects. But the great news was when I visited the eye surgeon today, even he was surprised as to how well the cataract surgery results turned out. NO MORE GLASSES except for reading.

Got an Atlas engine back from Atlas today, runs like a dream. I'm still waiting for the other shoe to drop, an MTH engine with no sound issues. Hopefully it will be something minor and not a major expense.

No museum this week, full crew at the ready so grampa is going to be early for Little League friday and saturday. Yes

Are we going to change Laz's handle to "ShortTimer" ? Laugh

Prayers for healing Jeff.

Dennis - Mojang finally put out Minecraft on Xbox 360.  It runs great, but it's based on the version that was online for PC about 8 months ago?  There have been a lot of upgrades on the PC version since then, but basically it's the same game.  No Experience, no enchantments, and no "foodpops", but it's already been reported that they will upgrade it.  I guess they contracted out the port to Xbox and this was the build that was available at that time.  You can build trains in it, so I'm happy Smile

Mid-term evaluation at work - went well.  I'm still mad that nobody covered for me when I was on my vacation - apparently they now recognize that something needs to be organized.  Goooooood thinking.

Doug - you make me want to build my layout already!!!!

TTFN - Tardis take me away!

RIP Chewy - best dog I ever had.

Time for me to call it a night. After wrapping up my outdoor activities earlier I found to my dismay that I was leaving bloody boot prints on the carpet - again. Seems that while I was either getting down on my back or struggling back to a standing position during the oil change on my van I ripped open the edges of the wound on what's left of my right ankle. The dressing was completely soaked so I had to cut it off then clean the area with alcohol soaked gauze pad. I got the bleeding stopped OK and put on a new dressing. It's getting to where it's getting hard to move around without this happening. Oh well, life goes on. See y'all tomorrow.

Ray, Hudson#685(john) and I were talking that I liked Lemon ice cream but it was very hard to find. Strohs makes it during the summer if you can find a store that has it. John's wife has a home made ice cream store and it took john all winter to get her to make some Lemon ice  cream. Well it appears the customers like it and now a nearby ice cream store is selling it too.

That's the story.

Good afternoon all,

Late getting on the pot today.  Running around a lot this morning to hardware store then super market and that after taking our morning walk and late breakfast.

Went to hardware store looking for new power strip for appliances in the kitchen.  Could not find one with the right length cord and did not want to splice in an extension cord so I came back home and discovered the old power strip still works so I put it back in service.  Moral, if it works don't fix it.

Jack, regarding cleaning the grill.  I have the same problem mentioned by Laz.  I have porcelain covered grills and did not want to use a heavy wire brush on it.  I did use Pam on cooking surface before grilling.  I sprayed grill cleaner on the grills and washed them off after that.  I did use a scouring pad.  Maybe I'm being too concerned about having a clean cooking surface.  I suppose the heat will kill any germs prior to cooking.  SJ mentioned putting foil over grill after cooking and leave heat on high until you burn off grease.  That's one way to do it.

Pat, not much new on the Pat and Ray cooking show except that I have been using the microwave a lot more lately for cooking things like boneless/skinles chicken *** and salmon.  Got receipe out of microwave cook book.  Saves a lot of time and comes out good.  I also cooked a sirloin steak in a toaster/broiler oven too.  It taste better on the big grill though with the open fire flavor.

Roy, I will probably do the same as you regarding running out of gas.  Just finish it in the house.  I don't have a good place to store extra butane tanks anyway.

SJ, what's this about your wife's lemon ice cream?  My favorite flavor in Virginia was High's Ice Cream lemon custard.  Don't know if anyone still makes that.

Chief, Haven't been keeping up with the news on N.C. vote on marriage.  I assume they voted in favor of traditional marriage.  The president came out in favor of same sex marriage according to the news today but that's just his opinion I guess.  Anyway, be interesting to see if it has any effect on the electlion.

Tried to find some power booster stuff for dishwasher at market today but found it has been discontinued.  It helps keep the machine clear of hard water deposits.  Probably not green enough for the tree huggers I guess.  Probably have to go underground to buy it now.  The appliance store carries it but they want almost three times the regular price.  Usually when this happens, you at least get a kiss.Whistling

later,

Ray

Had flood for about 15 minutes.  Then regular rain.  1 1/2 inches in that short period.  Now sprinkles.  Had just finished broadcasting fertilizer and Bayer chemical to kill ticks, grubs and etc.  Hope it soaked in and not washed away.

Evening all not a lot going on here. I slipped at work yesterday but felt fine when I got up but once I finally left and got in the truck body started tightening up and my right leg got real stiff at the knee. kept me up most the night. I hobled around most of the day but was fine by days end. now leg is getting a little stiff again but not any where near like it was last night. So I'll just going to have to work it out for the next few days.

Oh no!!!  Workmen's Comp.  Trying to live off of Government like I do.  Go back to work and send in my SS. Angry

Really hope all gets OK.

Finally got around to changing the oil in the van today. I can tell when it needs it. The light tapping of some of the valves starts sounding like castanets. Let it go for a few more weeks and it could probably stay in tune for the Mexican Hat Dance. A five quart bottle of Pennzoil 10-W30, a filter and a couple cans of Restore USA Engine Restorer and it's happy as a clam and running quiet again. When I first got the van I tried 10-W40 in it thinking that it would be better for an older engine. The dang thing would never stop clattering. Drained that out and replaced it with 10-W30 and the difference was night and day. All that clatter reminded me of some old BN U-boats that came through town many years ago, years before it became BNSF. You could hear those things clattering seven blocks away! The way they looked they were probably headed for the scrap line.

Jeffrey - I always thought those motors were the best sound system ever!

Same here. I would have been content to leave it right where it was but those old motors pull more power than the average HO sized DCC decoder can handle. The best I've gotten one of them to do is crawl along at four or five smph at full throttle just before the decoder does a fair imitation of a kitchen match being struck. I can tell you from experience the odor can linger for weeks! Digitrax has an HO sized decoder that can handle four amps but I'm nor shelling out $60 for it for an old loco like this GP35 I'm currently working on. This is a loco that can bought on Ebay for under $40. Yes, there are example selling for over $100 but at the end of the day these are mostly blue box models with a low degree of detail and handing over more the $50 for one is in my opinion a waste of money. In my case I traded a couple of Bachmann GP30's for it. I just wanted to get rid of them as I almost never ran them and used them mostly for weathering practice.
