Good evening guys.  worked a little late, came home and picked up the kids to take them shopping for Mother's Day.  Still on call and I hope that I get to sleep without interruption.
Doug, we got away with only a few limbs down.  A few miles south of us a few people were killed.  The brother of a friend of mine had a tornado take out his house and they found part of his jeep over a hundred miles away.  Fortunately, he and his family were out of state at the time.
MikeC., many moons ago, I got to drive in the pace car in the Meadowlands Grand Prix.  The driver of the car was a very pretty woman who made me a tad nervous driving as fast as we were and so close to the wall in the turns.  It was a great time and a bunch of my friends were in the stands as I passed...they were amazed!

So, what is on the menu for tonight?  The recent discussions of food have me getting hungry!

God Bless,
Dennis

Thanks guys and thanks for the info, Jack and Jim Thumbs Up  We plan to go to a local store tomorrow that has company reps coming in to show off their stuff.  It's a real camera store, Creve Couer Camera, and so I'm sure it will be all about the big high end cameras.  She wants one that is dependable and quick/easy to use with good picture etc.  She doesn't want all the add on lenses and stuff.  Anyway, that will be tomorrow afternoon after work.

Today the two add-on cars for the Dewitt Clinton came from Brent, thanks so much!  I'll put up some more pics and a video this weekend (I promise again, lol!)

HVAC guy did some kind of wet/dry test on the AC and return air etc, then tested the amp draw and stuff on the units.  Ran some numbers and added some freon, said it will probably be good for another year.  It's all 15 years old and pushing the limits apparently.  Hope we get another year or five out of it!

TARDIS is ready and people are on the scope, so let's get this party started!

Sunny and 70's today.

Some of the logic at work today made my head hurt!  We are working on a new product that is supposed to be the same as another product built elsewhere.  One of the mating products is also supposed to be the same.  It has been discovered when checking designs that there is interference between the two - on paper, so it has to be fixed.  The fix seems to involve a major re-design of both components.  It does not seem to matter that there are thousands of assemblies running around out there that use these parts that are said to interfere Question Bang Head  In the meantime, the product guys are using up more time, and I'm running out of time to build the tools to turn the drawings into real product - kind of looks like long hours during holiday season next fall Grumpy

My MKT boom car I got on e-bay for cheap got here today.  It is brand new.  Looks like part of a set break up.

All for now.

Mitch - Is your all aboard the Gilbert All Aboard set?

Morning to All,

Jim - it is the Gilbert All Aboard 600 American Flyer set. It is pretty complete except it was missing the porch roof to the blue roof house along with track clips and pins. I ordered the pins from Triple S Supply and am waiting for him to get the clips in stock.  Once I get the clips, I hope to keep it set up in the spare bedroom so I can run some trains in the dead of winter when my layout room is too cold. I suspect that the building are Plasticville and I hope to find a repro porch roof.  Give me something to hunt for at the train meets.

We had a great dinner out with friends last night. I got seafood cioppino that was wonderful, that I'd definitely order that again.

Going shopping for a recliner with the Mrs. today.  A few weeks back I think I wrote about a recliner that we bought that the back wouldn't go on.  The store tried to send a furniture tech to fix it and they couldn't get anyone willing to drive to Gettysburg so we wound up returning the chair.  Now we have to shop for another recliner.  I hate shopping for furniture. You enter in the door and it seems like there is a kettle of vultures circling over you waiting to pounce on you.

After the shopping trip I want to get home to do some more yard work.

Better get going the layout is calling me.

Take care,

Mitch

RT - Thanks for the thought.  I'll keep searching on eBay and on websites for repro parts.

I am finished cleaning up the layout.  Ran trains for about 45 minutes. I swapped out my ZW with the newer one that I bought a while back because the original one I had was not blowing the whistle on the one control handle. Newer one is working. I may take mine to have it serviced  but I am in no hurry.  All ready for my nephew's visit. Stowed some junk that was laying around the layout.  I really need more self space or get rid of some trains. Looks like I'll be getting some shelves. Laugh

Waiting for the Mrs. To give the all clear signal so we can get on the road to look for a recliner.  Also need to stop and pick up a cheap spray tank to spray some weeds. The one I have is leaking and dripping. Maybe I can find  a new spray handle. I really don't need a tank or hose.  I went to my favorite local hardware store, one of the few independents left in our area and he didn't have the replacement handle.

Gotta go.

JohnB......it wasn't me, even though I live in Boston Red Sox territory.  The home team has fallen into a tailspin the past week and has lost three in a row AT HOME  following a stellar 7-3 record preceding this homestand.  It has been gruesome to watch.  Sad

Aloha. Grey and warmer here. Those Sox would be 'mine', John. The team stinks!  Took bride to a Jim Brickman concert last night. Nice guy, all his piano music sounded the same to me. Ready for the rest of the Mom's celebratory weekend here - got the expensive brunch reservations, picked up the charms at the jewelry store, and her favorite jelly beans. Now I can relax and go cut the heads off some dandelions. Big Smile

Good Mornin Ya'll From Sunny Taxachusetts,

A seasonal 62 right now with rain on tap for the rest of the weekend.  Spent a good six hours doing yardwork yesterday and the place is starting to look quite good, relatively speaking.  Thankfully, the rains have held off but will move in soon and put a damper on Mothers' Day.  I used a liquid Ortho weed control product with the garden hose yesterday, and I may squeak in under the "no rain or watering for the first 24 hours" instructions.  I abut wetlands, and the weed infestations are constant.  Got in some mulching and raking (dead spots) as well, and am now contemplating reseeding some dead spots spots, compliments of the dog.

Brutus........I have been looking at an SLR Nikon that does both still and video well.  Simplicity of use is important to me too, even if the camera is larger.  Don't forget to check out those camera menus and their ease of use to get to the important stuff.  My current 6 year old Sony still camera is fully automatic or manual......works great but is not so user friendly.  In my mind for the average user anything over 12 megapixels is a waste.  Don't forget to price out larger memory cards while you are at it, easpecially if you select a camera that shoots the longer video (not just clips) as well as stills.

Later, gang.

Well decieded to hold off on trimming till monday as off thru wednesday after ot tonight hope to get back to putting the carpet on the boards. for my shelf/ceiling layout now covering with green indoor/outdoor carpet I had gotten up at the auction house free about 2 years ago. The boards (all except one 12' piece which I bought about a month ago) are ones I used for shelves back about 3 years ago when first moved here and some actually came from TN with me where I was using them for a shelf layout there so all the material are recycled material even the brackets and some of the screw even lol the bracket screws that go into the boards are new bought them about 6 months But ones going into wall are from about 5 years ago and some are being recycled for about the 3rd time but 90% of the items here are all recycled lol

Good evening everyone.  Currently watching some Disney videos with the kids and MIL.  Daughter had her ballet recital dress rehearsal today, so we all went.  She did great and I video taped it on my DSLR...Jack, I have a Nikon D90 which was the first DSLR to be able to do video.  It is able to do so as it has "Live View".  While I love this camera, it does have some limitations on the video end.  Once you focus, if your subject moves, the focus doesn't track.  You have to manually focus, or stop video and re-focus.  Since video is not too important to me, this camera is all I need.  Brutus, Jack mentioned about how easy these DSLRs are.  It is true, but they also allow you to grow with your camera skills.  The ability to add lenses to your repertoire allows for expanded ability.  The "Kit Lens" that comes with the camera is a "Vibration Reduction" lens which means that you can hand hold it with great results.  Also, it is 18-105mm, meaning that it is quite adaptable.  You can focus close, or take medium distance shots.  If video is important, I would not get the D90 for the reason's above, but I would certainly go for one of the newer models that have addressed those issues.  Also, the newer video modes allow for 1080, so you can have great quality HD video.

Wife is making brownies....YUM!  A little more family time and then its bed.  While I am not on camera (scheduled), I am sure they will need me somewhere.  Looking forward to services.  Recharge the old batteries.

Hope to check in at some point tomorrow.
God Bless,
Dennis

Tired!!!!!!!  Painted master bath all day.  The little linen closet is narrow but deep with a space below for dirty clothes basket and then above are 4 shelves.  Long reaches and especially so when it got to ladder time.  All painted and ready to use.  Did take a break and mow my yard and the widow lady's down the street.  Good night.

Good evening all,

I haven't posted in a few days due the busy schedule out here in GA.  So far I have been able to stay out of trouble - I know these Rebs see me as a fast talking Yankee.  Laugh

I spent some time today doing laundry in the hotel and then watched the Kentucky Derby.  I may go have a beer at the pub across the street, but it is getting late.  I will try to find a church to attend tomorrow morning.

Good night,

Good evening all,

It was mostly dry in SE Indiana, but rainy now.  We did get the soccer games in today and I mowed dad's yard.  The high school show was notable in the attempt.  The execution was...., well, it was nice to see the plotline of the show.  I had the regular fare on the dining car.  TBIL and I can drive.  I hope everyone has a good day.

To comment on the pace car observations.  The pace car this year is a Camaro.  A J Foyt will be the replacement driver for Trump.  He was the first four time winner and it is the 50th anniversary of his first win.  It would be so appropriate if one of his cars won the race.  Dennis, that is pretty cool that you got to ride in the pace car.  I wonder if the driver was Ellen Mellencamp, the now ex-wife of John Mellencamp.

Keep on training,

Mike C. from Indiana

Hey you all !

Yea, I'm still around.  Been messing around not really getting much done on many things.  But, will continue trying.  DCS system at Glen's place has been driving me nuts.  Sending one TIU unit back to MTH, hopefully they will find something wrong with it.  Havn't seen much of Glen recently he has been busy and then not feeling real well also.

Did notice where Chief has put up a post with something about "Peeing in the Shower", I don't think I will even say anything about that..................!!

A friend introduced me to a new online Train shop that really looked good, called Grahams.  Bookmarked that one!

Not going to work tomorrow, (Mother's Day), so guess what we're doing........?  Right.. going to take MIL, FIL and Kay to a Swap Meet.   Going to go to the Swap Meet at the Rose Bowl.  It is primarily a antique show and completely encompasses the Rose Bowl.  Now if the weather holds it should be a good day.  (Chris is going also, then coming home and BBQ'ing.

Dont want to take up too much space.......

Happy Birthday for those that are near (past or future).

Prayers for ALL of Us!  (Hope health and weather stays favorable.)

Best Regards

Don
