What's new on the BBQ/ Grilling show with Jon & Buckeye?

They have me out hunting opossum and raccoon for their show. Whistling

Skipped out on the big meeting in Raleigh with the Legislature.  My Lesgislative folks and I talk all the time so I don't have jump on the League's team.  Was going to paint in the new bath but the "grouters" came to do the shower.  Rained .55 inches so they could not work on another project here in Rolesville [it was an outdoor project].  Kind of goofing off which is strange for me.

Everyone bought their Mother's Day presents?  Finn, Burg, Lucy and Nelly [the cat] have.

Later.

Good afternoon all,

Jack, we might waive the requirement for grits provided you can handle at least cream of rice which looks like grits.  However the Pat and Ray show prefer grits as one of our staples.  Pat can handle the money negotiation.

Chief is out looking for opossum and raccoon for The Jon and Buckeye Bar-B-Que and Grilling show..  Might have to change their name to the "Road Kill Cafe".  Their motto is, "good food from your grill to ours",

Finally got all my WBB NS F3 A-B-A units today and gave them a test run.  They look and run very well with a Norfolk and Western passenger train in tow.

Watched "Only in America" last night with Larry the Cable guy. "Git er done".  He was learning how to gather oysters in South Carolina.  What a wimp!  He would not eat any, especially on the half shell.  In fairness to Larry, they should be served ice cold on the half shell on a bed of ice with dipping sauce of some kind.  I have eaten Chesapeake Bay oysters raw, fried stewed or whatever in the past but I guess it's not safe any longer with pollution nowadays.  I have not eaten any South Carolina oysters.  In fact, I did'nt know they had any.  On the Chesapeake Bay they would harvest them from boats dragging for them or using tongs on the ends of long poles.  On the show about South Carolina, they were just wading in the mud and picking them up at low tide.  Seems like a tough way to do it IMHO.  The locals did not seem to have any trouble negotiating the mud  but Larry and all the Yankees he brought with him on the film crew were up to their waist in mud.

Hot weather is with us now this week in the 90's.  Going to town meeting at Library tonight to hear about plans for extending the Gold Line light rail to our town, hopefully before I die.

MRI tomorrow morning at 8:15AM.  Ouch!  Have to get up early to get ready.

later,

Ray

Well just for the heck of it I decided to check my halloween pre-orders. Looks as though Big L mite do it again., my last pre-order was for the halloween gateman. When did it arrive on my doorstep, November. The halloween 4-6-0 has been pushed back to Oct delivery. What is up, it's not like it's new tooling. It's the same loco they have been making for several years, essentially just different paint. Bang Head

If it doesn't arrive til November, as the gateman did, I'll be GrumpyGrumpy (double grumpy).

Good Evening

59 sunny

Well we both got a" see you in a year" from the eye doctor, so thats good. but either there before we left or after we got home, I lost a blank unsigned check. The office was closed when I tried to call about it. In the real old days someone at the bank would actually check the signature, today you could probably sign Mickey Mouse and it would clear. Man always something huh. We have enough banilla for tonite then I will need to restock...S.J.

Jack -- forget about "recommended" tire pressures, they are only concerned about a comfy ride, frustrating to say the least.  1)  ALWAYS  check tires cold;  2) rotate more often; 3) find an independent shop owner who has the best alignment machine in town.

Chief--no need to hunt raccoons any more, I have visitors every night -- what I need are Seals Team 6 to come in and cull the herd of raccoons and deer Thumbs Up

Good evening everyone.  Bit out of it as I got called in last night and didn't get back till early AM and then back up and at it at 05:30.  Did get to take kids to school and then wife and I went to IHOP for breakfast before I had to head back in.  Did a fair amount of running around this afternoon with a number of patients to see.  I also got a call from a group in Tennessee that I will do some work for on occasion.  May shoot up there next week, if things are quiet down here.

Regarding burgers, one of my favorite things to do is to mix some BBQ sauce in with some graham cracker crumbs with the meat.  Then, I cook them with some extra BBQ sauce while on the grill.  Wife loves them that way and if Momma is happy, the rest of the family is allowed to be happy!

Bob, great to hear from you.  Sounds like you are keeping busy on your end.  You really do have an interesting job.  We still keep you in our prayers.

Guys, the other day I mentioned a 17 yo girl who was killed in a car accident up the road from me.  Little more back ground, she was pregnant (and very far along).  Her boyfriend was in the car and her mother was the driver.  It was on a 4-lane highway with a center turn lane at the light.  Her mother was making a left hand turn and when the light had turned Yellow, she tried to quickly zip across before the Red.  At the same time, a tractor trailer was coming from the opposite direction and he wanted to beat the red too.  Ended up with the tractor trailer driving right over the car.  Daughter was unrestrained in back seat...she was ejected out of the car.  Boyfriend who was wearing his seat belt was severely injured, and mother had a scratch.  Now mother is making funeral arrangements for her daughter who she bears a bit of responsibility for her death.  While I know most here are "seasoned drivers", a lesson is that you never make a move where you count on someone else doing what you expect.  I am sure the mother expected the truck to be stopping for the red light.

OK, off my soap box, but if one reader heeds the warning and doesn't get hurt, I will be grateful.  Regarding Mother's Day, that is all taken care of from my end, but I was asked by my daughter if I could take her and her brother out to get something for mommy.

One last note of humor, my daughter was singing "Sweet Home Alabama" on the way to school today with a very distinct southern drawl....the funny part is that she is native Chinese, so the visual is quite interesting.

Hope each of you is blessed and may God protect you and your families this day.

Hello everyone! Fill er up as gas prices approach $3.85. Ouch! I think we should raise the price per bushel of grain we export to those who sell us oil to match the price per barrel we buy from them!

Ray (SP) - Good luck tomorrow and hope this answers any questions they have about your knee.

Dennis - That's a real hard lesson which will follow those who survived forever! You can never expect any driver of doing what you think they should do, real sad.

Jack - I've never been to Margate but I did know someone who lived there and it sounds real nice. Good luck to your wife and son!

Joe - I'm booking my flight right now for tomorrows afternoon game. I think they need me!

John - I have some nice blue cars with a loco that came in the other day and soon the green ones will be here, maybe Thur or Fri.

Good Night!

SJ,

I paid $3.99 for 87 today.  I didn't want to look at how much 93 was.

Brutus,

I will take care of that XBL situation.  Sorry if he offended you or your son.  I am very offended that he did that, and he will hear about it.

Jim - that's okay, I had my son block him/your acct and told him I was sure this is what happened. As I said, he got nervous when the guy said his name was X and I said your name was Y and ETC. Glad it was nothing, just a misunderstanding. Good luck on that interview - hope this is it for you!!!

Nothing much going on here - work is hectic and just glad to be employed I guess. No love there lately, but that is coming down from the top it seems.

I have to agree with you, Doug D G, except my gateman came a lot later than yours I think. I got a set of catalogs from Charlie Ro, so I'll order my halloween cars from him with my gift certs. Thanks a lot guys, you really were way too kind to me and my family. We sure appreciate it!

More rain and storms coming. I sprayed my front and side yard with mole repellent today after work, and all along the long hill in back. I have more, but you are supposed to do it in sections, working out from the house.

I need to get a few outdoors projects done asap while the ground is soft from the spring rains. I have some drain line to bury and a little retaining wall to build. I'll need some more bricks, but I already have like 20 of those 1 ft by 4 inch wall bricks from the last project I did. That should let me do the base layer and can then figure out what more I need. Oh - I'll need paver sand first too!

Nice chats with John and SJ and Charlie and Bill in the past 2 days.  Anybody interested in beaming up, just shoot me a PM with your yahoo messenger username any time!

TARDIS is ready so let's hit it guys!

Hello to all,

Just a quick check in.  Not much going on here. My meeting scheduled for last night was canceled so I got home a bit earlier.  Hectic days at work and no real slow down until the kiddos are gone June 17.

Need to get out and get to work in the yard but it was raining yesterday. Supposed to be drier today. IF the sun comes out and dries things up I will try to mow and trim tonight so I don't have to mess with it this weekend.

Better get moving, another exciting day ahead.

Good morning all,

May be dry in SE Indiana today.  Did a lot of honey-do last night.  No soccer.  Work went well.  Mitch, I hope you do get to Indy sometime.  The sight of the fastest 33 men and women in the world down the front stretch is a thrill one never forgets.  Dennis, an amen to your thoughts on driving.  All this talk of food on here just makes me hungry.  Regular fare on dining car.  TBIL anytime.  I hope everyone has a good day.

Keep on training,

Sunny but chilly.  Cold front came through after the rain.  Warming back up.

Off to my anual prayer breakfast.  Today is the National Day of Prayer.  Can't make the anual prayer in the Main Street Park at noon.  Town Atty. is getting an award that I nominated her for.  Have to attend the luncheon for her award.

PAINTING new bath.  Almost finished. Big Smile  About time.

Been telling gun dealer buddy that there was a form for me to order M14 accessories at a discount in my M14 box.  He could not find it until yesterday.  Ordering mysteel gen 4 scope mount.  When I get it, will mount new scope and off to the range.  Finally brought the rifle home.  Field stripped it and cleaned it last night.  Brings back the memories.  Should be very accurate as it has a "national match" barrel.

Morning guys.  getting ready for another fun day of call.  With regard to the loss of the young lady, I have seen far too many folks pass.  It is too easy to become jaded in our attempts to not let it affect you too much.  On that note, I really have no desire to see the UBL photos, but I can understand how others may wish to see it.

Got the Lionel catalogs in the mail yesterday from The Train-Station.  I see a few items I'd like to have.  Mostly, I am looking at scenery items, but may need to check out some of the newest offerings in motive power, etc....but my wife says I have enough!Whistling

Hope to check in later.
God Bless,
Dennis

Good Morning from Blueberryhill....

It is a sunny and clear, cold, 34 degrees. Going up to a sunny 60 today.

Today is an easy day. I have a few chores to do and some paperwork. Then, I can relax. Haven't gotten my new reefer from Marty yet.

Indians lost last night. 3-1. Still 20 & 9, which is pretty good.

Dining car is here with Cheerios for breakfast.

Y'all have a great Thursday.

Jon.....thanks.  That is what I figured, a too-low manufacturer's recommended tire pressure, for the soft ride only.  I did increase the psi on all four corners from the F/R recommended 30/32 to 32/34 about 5K miles ago.  I might bump the pressure another psi unless the fairer sex jumps in and starts complaining.

I use a tire shop that has the Hunter Force balancers.  I have been checking the tires cold every three weeks as you recommend.  But in my case, the tires cannot be rotated as the SRX uses offset tire sizes.  Great for turn-in, but this SRX (a crossover) is not the vehicle that needs that.   The fronts are P235-60-18 and the rears P245-55-18, with the rear wheels .5 inches wider.

I could rotate the tires side to side in the front by having them dismounted and remounted on the opposite side wheel for the time being.  What I should have done is "jack" the tire pressures 2 or 3 psi on all four corners when I first noticed the outer edge wear on both fronts, and just the fronts.  The rears are wearing much more slowly as expected, and are wearing dead even.

Looks like I'll be replacing the fronts only with the same Michelins (to match) and then down the road getting those 4 wearing out at the same time.  These Michelin tires that came on the car are great but far too pricey; and I expect that eventually I'll be switching to a more reasonably priced tire brand to my liking.

Thanks Jon for your help.  I am not very mechanically inclined and need all of the help and advice I can get.

Good Mornin Ya'll from Overcast Taxachusetts,

It appears the rain has moved off the coast, it's 46 degrees, and we may have a sunny day on tap.  About 35 degrees colder than the boys on the Left Coast, but soon I'll be checking out the air conditioning, just to be ready.

RaySP.....cream of rice?  I'd rather have a root canal than eat that stuff.  No

traindood.......cornering at 90mph, me?  You have me confused with my wife.  Smile, Wink & Grin

Pat.....sounds to me that some of those Southern dishes need to be tried out on your cows first.  Thumbs Down

DougDG.......this year will be different, and you will be receiving your Halloween Lionel order early.  I called the powers that be at L, and they promised to get right on it. Whistling

SJ......glad you found that lost check in your shirt pocket.  Laundering money is a Federal offense.  Laugh  Re the road construction and planning things out.  The main State road from the North going into Salem MA has been in a state of teardown and reconstruction for 4 years.  Goes like this:  tear down road.  Repave.  Tear down road.  Repace sewers.  Repave.  Tear down road.  Add curbs and replace water lines.  Repave.  Tear down road.  Replace electrical.  Repave.  And the State is broke?  Duhhhhh!  The local businesses along that stretch have been hurt quite badly by this bungling as customers have given up trying to get there. SoapBox

RT.......German chocolate cake is one of the basic food groups and is actually good for you.  Just ask your "Mama." Dinner

Jon........animal patterns have changed around here.  The deer have moved off into the less urban areas North of me.  The groundhogs have taken up residence elsewhere.  The rabbits are thriving despite the influx of coyote.  The wild turkey and canadian geese have moved in.  And the chipmunks have become the nuisance de jour......annual and perennial flowers are toast.  Wife undeterred, insists we plant again.....and I need to lace the flowers with birth control drugs.

Dennis.....how does one combat poor judgement and sheer stupidity with folks behind the wheel of a vehicle?  My Dad taught me to drive and always warned me that defensive driving, the use of seatbelts, and anticipating the worst in folks in every scenario was the key to survival on the road.  He loved the phrase "dead right" when trying to explain to a sixteen year old (me) that being in the right and assuming others will do the right thing will still get you killed.

DougM.......the change in metro Chicago's Metra policy slowing the commuter trains down from 79mph to 55mph serves a useful purpose.  It make the fatalities easier to identify.  Yet another case of folks getting ejected from the vehicle because they were not belted.  If seatbelts work for race car drivers in 200+mph crashes....never mind. Bang Head

AF Ray.......Regular 87 now at $3.99 here.  DougM in Illinois at least $.40 per gallon higher, due to the perfect storm of taxes and transport.  On my road trip I found gas was much cheaper right over the border in Indiana.

RaySP......hope that MRI today reveals the source of your knee issue so you can finally get that squared away.  Angel

Chief.......I am placing my order with you for free tomatoes early this year.  Prices here just under $3.00 a pound for what tastes like and has the consistency of red major league baseballs. Bang Head

LAZ/Chuck.......apparently Juan Valdez and his mule got a raise, explaining the ridiculous coffee prices.  Your $9.00 per downsized container is $11 on sale here.  Looks like Beer may soon be a financially viable morning beverage, though I don't think it will taste good on the Cheerios.  Bang Head

LAZ......the number of folks in these here parts looking for homes for their beloved dogs because they lost their homes is frightening.

JimmyT......prayers for a solid interview!!!!  When is it?  Angel

Mitch......cheer up.  It could be worse.  You could be smack dab in the middle of the school construction project you were saddled with just a couple of years back. Wink

MikeC........I am in strong agreement with you.  Even folks who are not fans of motorsport sit in in the stands with their jaws hitting the ground in awe as those open wheeled Indy cars come flying off of turn four at the Speedway and scream down the front straight at 230mph, wheel to wheel.  TV doesn't come close to doing the Indy 500 justice.

SubmmBob.....glad to hear the project is progressing nicely.  You need some rest!!  Zzz

8N.......re your wifey's "social therapy," hope she didn't find your train stash hidden in the rafters in the basement and blow it all on a game of five card stud.  Smile, Wink & Grin

JimSP......let us know when your funeral arrangements are complete.  We'll need to make transportation arrangements once your wife opens the box with a "circus train" inside on Mothers' day.  Laugh

Gotta run.  Later, gang.

Mornin' fellas and gals:    Hey Jack;  The deal with the tires is this; you can buy expensive ones or not, the ozone in the air breaks down the compound that the tire is made from. Most last about 3 years or so, then the steel belts start to flex out of round and different wear patterns occur. Of course when they are new, the premium tires are better for a while. This way you can brag to your neighbors how great your tires are!  How do I know? I have been around heavy equipment one way or another most of my life.  Started drivin' about 14 yo. Learned on a 1956 Diamond Reo. Retired as a manager of heavy equipment after 35 years for nyc.  I currently have one suv and that' too much!   Only use synthetic oils in the car. Figure if it's good enough for M1A1 Abrams tanks and F-15's, it's good enough for me!   later.

Lunch Time,

Nothing on the train front to report on. I have been reviewing for the 3 ASE recerts I have to take tonight.

Traindood, Time to bust on you. You learned on a 1956 Diamond Reo. It must have been custom built. Oops - Sign Diamond T and Reo merged in the mid 1960's. You must have meant a Diamond T. It could have been a Reo, but a lot of guys automatically call either a Diamond Reo, including the guy that does the web site for the Vol. Fire Co. He has our 1957 Reo and our 1958 Diamond T as Diamond "Rios". Whistling I worked on this stuff too long.

Tire Pressure: The manufacture's have the recomended pressures for a reason. That is why Tire Pressure Monitoring systems are mandatory now. Remember the Rash of SUV blow outs and roll overs. I would stay with the recomended pressures. SoapBox

Back to work.

Have a great day,

John

Hey John:   Now that we have begun to split hairs, in deference to some of our "Pot" brethren, the Diamond T and Reo type chassis were most similar. It was a no brainer when they merged. Rather than get boring, Diamond Reo in colloquical lingo is meant to describe a class of vehicles that exemplifies a type of truck that was easily adapted to a variety of body styles. And yes I drove a custom job that was a stake body used for bales of waste paper.  So there!

Think good thoughts, do good deeds!

Aloha all. Kinda of grey-y but high 50s - which is the best weather in a long while. Boy, I sure learn a lot on this thread - sometimes about trains too - now I've gotta try graham crackers with BBQ, raise the pressure in my tires and check out the 'ol Reo firetruck this weekend. I thought Reo was an early Oldsmobile. And as Jack said, I'm paying the highest price per gallon for gas in the nation: $4.45. Don't worry about missing out. I'm sure this price will come your way too. Big Smile

I had the best morning. Put down the weed-and-feed on the dandelions and mud. Then drove all the way to Woodstock Hobbies to buy myself birthday gifts. Got a pedestrian overpass kit from Atlas, a tube 'o glue - and an MTH operating coal tower - the AF-looking one I've always wanted. Paid full-retail but at least it was there. Now to wait until the big day to be able to play with it. Not sure where I'll put it on the layout. Yes

Prom tomorrow here too, Laz. Middle boy isn't going though - he's too consumed by the NHL playoffs. LOL.

Speaking of my teen, he has a school assignment that calls for him to interview someone who was in the service during 'a war' - not sure what that means exactly, I have to find that out, but if you know anyone, could you PM me?

Evening all not a lot going on here. I have to go in on Saturday for O.T. but other than that I'm off till Thursday morning.

3 days vacation time off 6 days lol. I signed up for the O.T. befor they approved the leave so I could get out of it but rather do it and not going anywhere.

Have doctors appointment in the morning but thats okay. Hope to work on shelf layout some more while I'm off. Need to cut grass and trim hedges that I haven't taken out. ( some wife wants to keep but not the ones along the drive 1/2 are gone still have 1/2 to go may get back to them again.
