Good Evening
63 w/sun all day
I got the weed & feed on but showers tomorrow may keep the weed part from working. It was nice here today but I couldn't get granny to go out so I watched the newest Harry Potter movie. Banilla's getting low so we may have to stop somewhere and restock...S.J.

Good Evening,
Back from the ASE Recerts. I think that I did well. 3 recerts within 45 minutes, not bad.
Traindood, You are right, they both shared a lot of the same chassis parts. The gas engines I am not sure if they both had the Gold Comets or not. The Company that I work for had mostly Whites of that vintage. People commonly loop the 2 together. I can't let a good bust slide.
Doug, REO, stood for Ransom E. Oldsmobile, the founder of Oldsmobile and one of the founders of GM, who left and started REO.
One of my favorite trucks are Whites. I really like the round cab COE White 3000. We had a fleet of them when I started. They are hard to find. I also have a few White Super Mustangs on the layout as well. In tractor form, a 1957 Super Mustang was the first tractor trailer that I drove with a low boy attached. Yes, I have one of them also. I am planning on painting it grey and adding our company logo.
I thought this was a model railroad site. Never mind we are trying to get the vehicles period perfect. (yeah, right, who cares what year it really is as long as it looks good).
Early to bed,
John

Good evening everyone. Ended up being a long day as a case was added just as I was about to head home. Finished that up, but I may need to go in about midnight to do rounds....we will see. Regarding Whites, the Hess fuel depot near where I grew up had a whole fleet of them. Was nice and the folks at Hess kept them super clean.
Doug, happy birthday! Hope you get plenty of toys and a special dinner for your special day.
Got to watch some videos from ground zero from 9/11/01 that had not been released till now. This was filmed by someone attached to FDNY. While nothing bad is seen, still, it chokes you up watching the firefighters and S&R guys working the piles and searching with their dogs. I was looking for some familiar faces, but didn't recognize any. They did show the engine assignments from one of the houses and I saw someones name that I knew who died in the collapse of tower 1. While it is a given that firefighting is a noble profession, think about the guys who went into that tower after seeing the other tower come down. I have a DVD that was sent to me of photos taken by some PO and FD photographers from that day....sad.
I finished running the new piping to our irrigation system from the well. I hope that when I try it out tomorrow, that no leaks and I can finally keep the peach trees watered on an automatic timer. Been a bit hot to not be adding water.
Take care and have a good night.Dennis

Evening to all,
I've had an interesting week at work. The politics get to me sometimes. Wish we could just focus on what is best for kids and not get into the gamesmanship. Hope tomorrow is better.
Have to find a home for the All Aboard set which is two boxes. I really need to get out in the garage and do some clean up because my family with my 4 yo nephew are coming Sunday for Mother's day and I know he'll want to run some trains.
I did get the grass mowed and trimmed tonight. I'm feeling pretty tired so I might as well head to bed.
Take care,
Mitch

Mostly cloudy and about 60 today. Some drizzle type rain too.
RI52 - Your tire wear sounds like it might be a combinaton of too much toe in and incorrect camber settings on the front end. I had similar wear patterns on my pick up truck after an alignment. Took it to a different shop for another reallignment - came out of that shop driving like a different truck. Tire wear about dissapeared too.
Tire pressures are developed by the manufacturers as a compromise between vehicle noise, vibration & harshness, tire wear, and handling characteristics. In general, going lower than reccomended pressures will soften the ride, reduce the tire's load carrying capacity, but it will cause the tires to run hotter - particularly when driven at high speeds. Heat kills tires. Going higher in pressure usually results in a harsher ride, improved ability to carry load, and slightly cooler running temperatures. Excessively high tire pressures will reduce the tire's grip on the road, and change the handling characteristics of the car.
In my 30 years as an engineer for a tier 1 automotive supplier, I've been involved in a few of these developments. Interesting stuff. Those development drivers have an amazing awareness of the vehicle they are driving. They can tell the difference in 1 or 2 psi tire pressure change on one tire!
Does my wife's 'social therapy' involve alchol? Maybe, but with the stack of medication she is on, she steers clear of it.
All for now.
Hey guys, turned out to be a nice day in Saint Louis except for a short heavy rain downtown today. Wife is doing really well and is now working 30 hours a week and cashed out a lot of her leave she had donated to her. She had to do it, so that she can start earning leave each payday. So, we got a really big paycheck last Friday This is good as she still wants a camera for her birthday, which was a month ago! Any of you guys have or have you tried a Coolpix camera?
Doug - sounds like a great find, man - can't wait to see some pix or a video of it on your layout BUT - it's not your BD yet!
Off tomorrow as the HVAC guy is coming to check and clean our system. Working 4 hours of OT on Saturday. I need to make a run to the store tomorrow morning while wife is at work and get her some Mother's Day goodies from the kids and I. Also something from Chewy
TARDIS is ready so let's hit it guys. We'll get Banilla on the way!
RIP Chewy - best dog I ever had.
Here in UK our gas is equal to $9.70 a gallon. My car does 37mpg. Don't go very far very often.

Good morning all,
IIARDISEI with temps in the 60s. I mowed the entire yard that was above water all at once for the first time this year. Work was busy. I had the regular fare on the dining car for breakfast. I see where some one clued the "Donald" in at IMS and now we will have a more appropriate driver to pace the 100th anniversary of the Indy 500. TBIL later tonight and I can drive. I hope everyone has a good day.
Keep on training,
Mike C. from Indiana
Good Morning,
A cool 30 @ 4:45 this morning. I had to look twice. May or December?
No trains yesterday, just relaxed and an early bed time after the ASE Recerts.
Brutus, Great news about Char.
On the gas front, Regular dropped $.04 to $3.79 - $3.83 on Rt.9 by me.
Thoughts and Prayers for all in need.
Have a great day.

Hello all,
Think I'll have a quick cup this morning.
Chief, Your mention of the National Day of Prayer is the only one I heard. Sad
On tire pressure. I always run mine at the maximum PSI the tire is rated for. The last tires I bought for Mrs' S10 blazer were rate for 40k miles. At 50k plus they still still had enough tread to pass the PA state inspection. I replaced them anyway because we were heading in to the winter driving season. When I bought them they were the most aggressive all-season tire I could find. They did excellent in snow. It went better in 2WD than my Company vehicle did in 4WD. Even the previous winter when the the tires should have been replaced.
Relatively dry weather predicted for this weekend. Going to try to get some grass cut. I did finally get the pasture fence gone over so I can let the cows out of the barnyard and quit feeding them hay.
Family get together at Mom's house on Sunday. I'll supply a big bucket of KFC with all the sides. Mrs' favorite and we avoid all the restaurant congestion. (& I don't have to cook)
No time for trains. My Gilbert HO clock did arrive. It is nicer than I hoped for.
Prayers for those in need

Good Morning from Blueberryhill....
IT is a cold 34 degrees. Cloudy. Going up to 60 today with a chance of rain. Yesterday, was a beautiful day. Now, we get a week of rain.
Today is an easy day. I have an errand to run and a few chores to do. Then, I can relax. A nap this afternoon will be nice.
Indians won last night. Now at 21 & 9.

y'all have a great Friday.

Good morning guys. It is a beautiful day outside. Went out early to turn on well. I will check the irrigation a little later. So far, the feed piping seems to be holding.
Brutus, great news on Char. Pray for her continued success. With regard to the Coolpix, I have not owned or used one, but it is a good make. I would suggest going to both Amazon.com and http://www.bhphotovideo.com/ to check their reviews and pricing. Also, you can see any accessories that may augment the photo experience for Char.
Was watching the morning news today....they had a story on some of Ronald Reagan's cards and quotes that were found in a box. Reminded me of when I got to see him in NJ back in the mid 80's. Not getting political, but I liked Reagan. He could certainly inspire.
Now, the news is saying that Al-Qaeda has just put out a statement stating that Usama Bin Laden is dead. Now if we can convince a few more terrorist to join him.... would be a good thing.
We have our daughter's tap and ballet dress rehearsal tomorrow. MIL is coming to see it. I have to do some prep here at the house, so I had better get to it or I will be in trouble with SWMBO. Have a blessed day.Dennis
Sunny and warmer. Got to mow and paint. Also, disk garden where nothing planted. May disk food plots at pond area. Plumber coming to do final shower and toilet hookup around noon. Shower and pee downstairs.
Have a good one.

Another nice day here! Sunny and high 70's, maybe 80!
Doug M - with southern control of gas prices up north - youz guys don't use as much and thus we enjoy lower prices here
Hope everyone has a great day!

Aloha. Sunny and cool. At this rate, might see Spring in July.
Red Vest Day? Laz, I have to start celebrating that. Prom tix were $75 a pop. Ouch. Ours was held in the gym we decorated just like in the movies. These days there's buses, hotels, official parties, all manners of complications.Banks, that is a great idea. Wish I had thought of the obvious.Chuck, who foresaw how great the Tribe is playing? Certainly not me. It's terrific for Cleveland fans.John Baker, you're so right about the price of petrol being so high in the UK. Not sure why because there's so much coming out of the North Sea. I wish we had Britain's public transport infrastructure. Love hearing the great news about Char, Brutus. May she continue to recover swiftly. Dennis and Chief, are things recovering locally from the tornadoes?

Mornin' Fellas.I have been monitoring your banter on the Pot, just have been mega busy as of late.Got the new tile floor set in the spare bathroom last Sunday... live and learn. Hope to get the tub/shower tiled tomorrow and also get the floor grouted, then Sunday I can grout the tub/shower and hopefully get the toilet installed, mirror hung, vanity installed, and get the towel bar, towel ring, and toilet paper holder installed. That would put a wrap on this project!Ordered new tires for the Bimmer yesterday. Decided to forego the run flats, buy a used rim for a spare and have one of the existing tires mounted on it for a spare, then get new 'regular' tires. The run flats were almost $900 for a set, going this route I buy the rim for @ $100 and get tires for @ $500... no brainer there! Yes I will lose some trunk space, but in the long run I think it is worth it.As for tire pressure... BMW recommends 36psi in the tires on Susan's 5 series and in my 3 series... Love the handling, but the ride can be a bit harsh at that psi, I back them off to between 32 - 34 and they hold up just fine and the ride is better. As for off-set tires... only on sports cars... Jack if I were you I would go with the front tire size. They are narrower which means you'll get better wet and snow handling with them than the wider rear tires. When I had my 2002 325xi I put wider tires on it and it handled like crap in the snow, went back to the narrower tires and 1,000x better!I was hoping to buy winter tires and put them on the factory 16" rims, then get high performance tires and new 17" rims for Summer, but that was cost prohibitive due to the pending adoption. Funny how kids change your spending habits...
Good Morning
52/60s cloudy.
I had a nice chat with Brutus & RT last night. We got on the subject of comedy movies, lot's of old memories and laugh's. It rained overnight so I doubt if the weed part of my weed & feed will do any good. TGIF...S.J.
Good Mornin' Ya'll From Sunny Taxachusetts,
The rain has moved on but showers forecast tomorrow and for Mothers' Day. So I have a day of drying out and yard work on tap. LAZ, I'm going to start mulching too. Got to finish a small area for dropping some pelletized lime with my broadcast spreader which brings the soil ph up toward the ideal level of 7 and makes the fertilizer much more effective.
Re weed control products SJ and DougM.....both the liquids you use connected to the garden hose and the pelletized weed and feed products instruct you to apply when the time window before the next rain is 24 hours or more.....so SJ, you should be in pretty good shape, no worries, as long as you applied it to a wet lawn and the pellets have an opportunity to get ingested into the weeds through the weeds' leaves.
Banks, 8N, and traindood.....thanks for the outer edge tire wear issue information. The SRX has certain front end alignment things that are not adjustable, not sure what they are.....but I might be best advised to get the alignment checked versus spec because the freakin' tires are about $250 a pop through the tire wholesalers! This vehicle curb weight tips the scales at 4,450 pounds. The "recommended" 30psi front and 32 psi rear pressures are just too low to begin, and I bumped the psi to 32F and 34R.
Pat.......I fully trust your vast experience and recommended fix on the vermin solution (chipmunks). Problem is, my neighbors have cats that seem to have have forgotten how to hunt or are unmotivated (overfed and fat); and I don't want a cat. The dog is enough, and my wife has plans for a second.
JohnB.......your gasoline prices across the pond are horrendous due to some massive taxes on fuel. On a relative basis, however, the UK has a vastly superior passenger rail and bus system, at least based on my limited experience visiting there twice. Didn't need to rent a car which is all the better for the well-being of the British citizenry if I were alternatively turned loose driving on the wrong side of the road. Fortunately for us all, the oil prices plummeted yesterday (10% ?) and the oil companies will be reducing their gas prices accordingly in the next day or two.
RT........you just HAD to mention trimming and pruning, adding to my "to do" landscaping list. Our 7 year old Granddaughter will be receiving her First Communion at the end of the month, and the Wifey has advised me that the "after ceremony" indoor/outdoor festivities horde will be here. She wants our landscaping on or ahead of schedule, calls me Juan the landscaper, and told me to get on it.
HudsonJohn......congratulations on the three ASE Recertifications, will send my vehicle down for a realignment from someone who knows what he is doing. You can't be more than a 5 hour drive each way for me.
Dennis and all.......the events of the past week and yesterday's 911 ceremonies in New York and the Pentagon still have me filled with mixed emotions. In my mind, we lost in the exchange and the scales can never be balanced.....not for the victims of 911, their families, their friends, their coworkers, or the Nation's psyche.
Mitch......at least you have your priorities well-ordered. Ya got the lawn mowed and are getting the trains ready for some Sunday fun with your 4 year old nephew. I hear you when you say that self-serving grandstanding by folks too far removed from where the rubber hits the road only serves to handicap the children, not help them.
Brutus......prayers continue for Char's amazing progress. A camera seems like an easy choice and purchase because there is so much good stuff out there. But it isn'tquite so easy. JimmyT went through this drill a couple of months back with selecting a camera, a combo video/still unit; and he wound up testing and taking a few of them back to BB until the hype and the marketing matched the quality of the performance. Dennis said it best, read the reviews and professional comparison tests. Me? My next camera must do both still photography and video. I am tired of carrying two cameras around. I also prefer a unit with a viewfinder (with a corrective lens) and a larger LCD. Intuitive, ease of use without an owners' manual in my back pocket is important to me too Most people buy a camera and use it for over a decade, so I would spend a little more to get a little more now.
MikeC........what is the Indy Pace Car this year? Re the driver of the pace car, I'd like to see an Indy 500 icon behind the wheel, not some knucklehead popular "celebrity." You are right when you say that tradition should top the list of qualifications for the Indy proceedings.
LAZ.......be careful of what types of mulch you use around areas Minnie can access. Some are downright toxic to dogs. The same is true for some of the flowers and shrubbery we take for granted.
CHUCK......I am getting worried about you. The Indians at 21-9 must be totally disrupting your sleep patterns.
RaySP.......hope your knee MRI worked out well. When are you going out on your neighbor's yatchet?
Fife.......only about 15% of the folks with boats have them in the water up my way, but I suspect that number will be vaulting by Memorial Day. Last season the big news was how many folks with powered boats could not afford the gas and just enjoyed them at dock or at anchor, not taking them out much. This year, it will be far worse with the gas prices. Makes your sail yatchet looking like a pretty wise move.
Later, gang. Off to the fields as my wife's indentured slave labor.
Jack
IF IT WON'T COME LOOSE BY TAPPING ON IT, DON'T TRY TO FORCE IT. USE A BIGGER HAMMER.
Think good thoughts, do good deeds!
Hey Juan the landscaper Its raining here today so can't do it maybe tomorrow I'll get out there but was glad I could help you remember that task.
Not much happening here. Went to medical appointment all went fine. Guess will try to work on my layout some seeing have nothin pressing todo today seeing it rained on my work
presently has stopped but still cloudy so will hold of I have 5 more days yet so plenty of time.
Talk to you all later T.G.I.F.

Traindood,
1936 Ward LaFrance Wrecker. That is going back some. Wooden Cabs, When I first startred here in 1972, we still had "Vintage" Whites and a few Macks with wood framed cabs, that were covered in sheet metal, also utility bodies with wood doors. we also had a carpentry shop that took care of that part of the job. Times have changed. Our fleet at that time was about 99% gas powered, stick shift, hyd. brakes, manual steering, no a/c or radio. A different story now.
Back to work, busy day,
Hudson, Traindood when I was younger I grew up where there was a autocar plant. Now they were some nice trucks even for then they were like rolls royce of trucks here in the states as I had a tour of the plant when I was like in 11th grade friends mother worked there in the office. If I remember right she told us each truck was a little different as they were basically hand made and per order. Also had a neighbor which sold Peterbuilts and Whites and would bring one home every so often.
All I ever drove were either Fords(F-700-900) or Chevy/GMC sidekicks and they were either grain trucks or Propane trucks. (6 wheels model)
Well got another 7 feet done have about 6 feet to go and the boards will be up so need to get back to work just stopped in to see what was going on.
Well the last wall now has it shelf for the layout onit Carpet is next then I get to work on how I'm going to lay the track. I got thinking might put O on inside as its smaller and would give the feeling of depth and bigger than it really is.
Brutus,
As Jack mentioned, I have some experience testing cameras. Although I went with Canon, I've read a lot of good things about Nikon. Decide want you want from a camera and do some research. Do it the right way, and not my thousand return way. Although I spent time reviewing specs, what sold me on Canon was the reviews and videos on YT.
I had two Kodaks, which aside from the questionable build quality, produced decent enough stills, but video left a lot to be desired. I tried pocket camcorders (Kodak PlayTouch and the Flip Ultra HD that Cisco has since pulled the plug on) and their video quality was marginal, and shooting stills was clunky and had quality issues.
After getting disgusted and returning them, I looked into Canon. Although I paid a bit more, I got a solid, well built camera that does a great job shooting video and stills. If something happens to this camera, I wouldn't think twice about getting another one.
The interview seemed to go well yesterday. The interviewer said that the way the process works is the interviews are conducted for a couple weeks, then they get back to you to let you know if they want you for a second interview. I got a followup letter typed as soon as I got home and got it on the way. I'll call Thursday to let them know that I am very interested in the position as well.
Traindood acually its a indian dream catcher small one they coem in all sizes wife likes them. Well just looked at the carpet and doesnt have a square section to it each end is different legnth and both sides are different legnths lol so need to figure how to square it up asits hard to cut to start with but will get it done may just start at one end and cut my 11" across till I'm done or all i have is a long triangle and to narrow to do anything. try and start with end that looks straightest or should I say squarest lol 115L one side 110 L on other side but its is same with anyway 71.5" so thats not bad better than I thought. might be able to get it kinda straight after all
If you hear some @#$&%#$% you will know where it is coming from
Talk to you all later
Evening all
Delivered the camper this evening. Kinda sad being without a camper. We'll get another 5'er, just not in a hurry. Now to find a place to store all the stuff we took out of the camper!
My boy and me will go to a cub scout shoot a ree tomorrow. We'll be shooting bows, rifles, sling shots and who knows what. Should be fun. I can't wait to let Gabriel shoot the old Savage 22 .410 over under that I learned to shoot on.
Jim T - hang in there, something will turn up.
Mitch - Is you all aboard the Gilbert All Aboard set?
Good night and may God bless
Jim
