Oh, what was the name of those glue-dots Buckeye mentioned in CTT a while ago. That would solve Joe's people-placement-problems!

That is just what they are called:  Glue Dots

Supposedly you can still find them at Walgreens, but a better place to find items of this type is a scrap booking store.  Scrap booking stores have all sorts of things you can use for sticking something to something else. Yes Here's the one I have used: http://www.archiversonline.com/

Waiting for nicer weather, although the sun was out today.  I did laundry, read a book, played some videogames, and hooked up my daughter's tv she bought.  I need to get an hdmi cable for it, but we did have some old composite cables she can use in the meantime.

We had pizza and a movie tonight - watched Due Date, which was pretty hilarious.  Now my wife is watching Amazing Race and I'm chatting with RT and CNW Doug Thumbs Up

Tardis is ready and my wife went shopping, so we have plenty of supplies Smile

Hey Roy:      My  two cents on your 10,000 lb. cast iron basins. When you bust it up, put a heavy canvas over the beast and go to town with an eight lb. sledge. Other wise the porcelain will break off into a million little pieces, and fly everywhere. Kinda dangerous too. Best of luck on your John Henry impersonation! later.  Ken.

Quiet day of observing at the 'scope. Weather is worse than yesterday but we are still open. Probably be closed for winds tomorrow.

I ran the 2026 last night and she ran great! Love the smoke!

Fife - got a Chuckle out of the Great Grits Caper

RT - those GP9's sure do look nice.

Looked into replacement smoke elements for the 2025 and noticed the liquid smoke conversion kit at Brasseur's. I had problems w/ the lead of the original. It works, but not very well. Worth making the conversion?

Bob

Thanks Bob there going to be top knotch tmcc soon lol will be a nice set. I replaced the smoke unit on a 2026 one time and remember it wasn't straight forward replacement as one wire I needed to solder to frame wasn't really long enough to start. ( it was the engine I put on track and had a cheap transformer and it would try to run but wouldn't so I figure well maybe not enough power lets break out the ZW ( yes I went from like a 35 watt transformer to 250 Watt transformer just a little more kick) anyway I gave it some power nothing so gave it full power it went down the track with a 3" flame coming out the stack yes i burned the smoke element out which was shorting sure scare the daylights out of me ) ( checked pants afterwords to make sure all was fine.) Buckeye Riveter

 dwiemer:

Fife, enjoyed your accurate and enlightened revisionist chronicle tale of the "Great Grits Caper".  It was quite reminiscent of a Don Baker story.

Dennis has been in the south too long and has started to sound too much like his honor.

I fully agree I was going to state earlier that Fife had it almost perfect except i thought it was in April at the York train show and not positive of the year either but the story was correct to my recollection

Good afternoon everyone.  Was on camera this morning at church, and will again for the evening service.  Since I am on call, my pager was on and I got a page in the middle of the morning service (it was on "silence").  My friend who died this week had asked the family to have me as a pall bearer.  I will head up to Columbus tomorrow after my morning case.  It is a honor, but I am humbled.

Fife, enjoyed your revisionist tale of the "Great Grits Caper".  It was quite reminiscent of a Don Baker story.

Well, it is a overcast day...still.  We have had rain for the last few days.  Lawn is in need of cutting and bride has decided she wants me to cut down the garden to start over.  Looks like I have some work to do.  I am also thinking of a raised garden for fruits/vegetables.

May God Bless,
Dennis

Good Morning from the Jersey Shore,

47 and raining, better than snow.

My wife thanks everyone for the birthday wishes.

AF53 Ray, came by last night to pick up and open his packages that he has been getting delivered to my house. He gave the excuse that he wanted to wish his sister a happy birthday. (He really isn't henpecked, I just like to tease him). I have to admit that he has bought some really nice AF items.

Fife, you are like me, I encourage my young guests to run the trains. Keep the interest going. So now I know the TRUE STORY of the GREAT GRITS CAPER.

Everyone enjoy the day,

John

MITCH is that meet at ST. Phillips Church in Millersville any good?  I was wondering.

Stay frosty,

laz57

Laz,

Not sure about the meet in Millersville I've always thought about going but usually weekends are so busy. Just so happens that the Mrs. has friends coming that day and I usually disappear for the cackle-fest. I'll let you know.

The Mrs. and I had a great day with our son and his girlfriend. We had lunch in a place that made this wonderful Peruvian chicken roasted over an open flame. Spent time at the Smithsonian then went to a dive bar kind of joint in Northeast DC for dinner.  We all shared salads and steamed mussels plus an order of fries for the table.  They had some great Belgian beer, so I tried a Chimay Red, excellent choice.

Will try to catch the NASCAR race from Vegas later today.

Take care,

Mitch

Good Morning

27 and cloudy, yesterday's rain turned to snow in late afternoon. Man it just won't quit. But it is March and it'll be gone soon. I will be leaving soon for the last big train show of this terrible winter season, looking forward to some friendly chat with old friends.

                      The Battle of Rockville Bridge

(A revisionist account of the so-called Great Grits Caper)

On a beautiful sunny day, on March 25, 2007, Union leaders gathered by the shores of the mighty Susqehanna River, in the state capital of Harrisburg.

A Southern sympathizer, announcing hisself as a high government official of North Carolina, telegraphed ahead to try and arrange amnesty, before Gen Sherman and his forces could reach his town.

(BTW - that's his dog Berg.  The one on the right.)

Being gracious hosts, the Union galley prepared a feast for the visitor.

After some polite small-talk, the visitor's true motives became readily apparent...

WARNING *** The following image may not be suitable for all audiences.  Proper disgression is advised.

POISON!

Immediately, the scally-wag was ushered out of the capital.

At least, that's how I recall the whole matter. Whistling

Mornin' boys.  Mornin' Enlgish.  Mid-Atlantic region = Storm

My author friend, Elmer (the P&BR book with my photos), brought his 2 grandsons (2 & 5)by Friday to play trains.  Nice visit, with one major pile-up when little one got button-happy.  Grandpop was mortified, but it was ok.  Anything to get young ones interested in the hobby is worth a few bumps & bruises.

Good Morning from Blueberryhill....

It is 32 degrees. About an inch of frozen snow on the ground. Going up to 35 today.

Today is an easy day. I plan on watching the Nascar race from the train room. Time to dust the layout. Trains need to be run.

Dining car is here with Cheerios for breakfast.

Y'all have a great Sunday.

Roy - 7000 pounds!?  OMG!

Really enjoy this new Larry the Cable Guy tv show!  They had a pretty fun episode with some train stuff, but honestly every one I've watched has been entertaining.  He's dressed like a mermaid in the one I'm watching now!

No trains today, although I did check out some magazines at the bookstore tonight.  Family went out to the mall for dinner at Noodles and then wife picked up some clothes while I took the kids to Borders.  She did really well with her walker (just in case she got too tired).  I actually ordered two train books on Amazon through 3rd party sellers.  They were used, but one is about narrow gauge trains all over the world and the other is a history of railroading in the US from 1825 through 1893 (I think off the top of my head).  Good deals for used books (Like New).

Doug - have fun batching it man, I foresee pizza and movie nights galore!

Missed the TARDIS tonight, so hope you guys use the wayback circuit and come get me!  Chewy said BARK!

Good evening all,

It is rainy in SE Indiana.  We spent the day dividing stuff today, mostly the big items (furniture and other such stuff).  It went well.  Everybody is still speaking to one another so far.  Took my side of the family out to eat as sister's side wanted to go home.  Still have a lot to do.  Watched the fishing video.  Never want to hear anything negative about the dangers of soccer again from a certain mayor in North Carolina after seeing what all can wrong in that video.  Speaking of soccer, US women are the finals of the Algarve Cup after beating Norway 2-0.  My Norwegian soccer friend has not commented on that game for some reason.  I had the regular fare on the dining car for breakfast.  TBIL and I can drive.  I hope everyone has a good day.

Keep on training,

Good evening all,

It hit only 50 today and it was windy which made if feel colder.  It's a good thing it was sunny or I'm not sure how well the older son's baseball games would have went.  We went to Edmond, OK, to watch his first machine-pitch baseball tournament.  His team won both of their games today and they have two more tomorrow.  His team is very good and this is his first year playing with them.  He went 0 for 3 in the first game, but after some adjustments he went 3 for 3 in the second game and had four RBIs.  He is looking forward to tomorrow's games now that he has figured out the machine.  It will be cold again so we'll bring the blankets again.

It's been a long day so I'm off to bed early.

Good night,

Joe

Today was pretty much a veg-out day, did service and put away yesterday's loco's and rolling stock followed by a few minor repairs to those in the bullpen on the shelf.

Did watch NASCAR from Vegas, really enjoyed seeing the "old guy" win. Beer

I guess we'll have to wait for Chief to get back w/the evidence. Whistling

John and Doug, back when I was on the FD, they had a video of a Fire Department Tower Ladder that hit the high line with two men in the bucket.  The officer had a whole lot happen to him, rather graphic to describe here, but sufice to say...it was real bad.  He lived, but really messed up.  Very dangerous.  Even for guys with experience, never mind a guy who is new.

Bob, thanks for the kind thoughts.  He lived for quite a long time since being diagnosed.  One thing they are finding with MS, if diagnosed early, they can keep the symptoms at bay for quite some time, if it happens later in life, the progression is more rapid and debilitating.  '

Hudson tell her HB from me too. Spanky tell him HB also.

Dennis I use the stations faithfully plus gloves. I'm also off till Thursday so still have a few days to go feeling a lot better now but still taking meds and taking it easy besides I see my doc on Tuesday and need a release to go back to work seeing I was sick 3 days in a row.

Well I put the electronics for lights and coil couplers control in the 8358 (dummy unit) GP-9 PRR tonight and got the worst of the wiring done. Ordered front and rear double pickup sets for the B-unit and Front for the power unit this way I have 4 pick-ups on each engine no chance of losing a signal on these. figure will go with railsound and tmcc in power unit. ordered light sockets and lights for the B-Unit also. Down the road will order the AC Commander and railsound.

Good Evening from the Jersey Shore,

Northwoods Flyer, Ray is trying to collect ALL OF THE PRE WAR AF. Believe me, he has it shipped to my house.

Dennis, I did not know him. I believe that he worked out of Hackensack. I was in the Coal Street Garage in Newark.

Dougdagrump, we hit bridges too. The best one had to be a substation guy who had a van for years. They wanted a van with an aerial lift on it. The first week out he took the unit off on a low railroad tunnel. He said the other van fit.

Doug, Sorry to hear about your friend's son. Sadly, this happens a lot.

SJ, I am sitting down forr some banilla. I hope that your family enjoyed dinner.

Laz, We are going to celebrate her birthday on another day. They are busy at the ice cream shop today. I passed on your birthday wishes and she said to tell you Thank You.

Thoughts and Prayers for Everyone in Need.

A quiet, but productive day here on the hill. May be closed part of tomorrow and Monday due to wind and weather though.

I cleaned the e-unit on the 2026. It was pretty dirty. I went ahead and cleaned and lubed it again while it was apart. Runs great now and is an amazing smoker. Will put it on an oval w/ the tender and caboose tonight.

Dennis - sorry to hear about your friend. I used to work w/ a guy with MS and saw a bit of how tough it was for him. He never gave up though.

NavyJack - How ya doin'? Heard anything from your son in boot camp? How is he enjoying Great Mistakes or Great Lakes Training Center?

Been watching the weather back east on my weather maps. Hope you all are staying dry and warm back there.
