Aloha all. It's cold and snowing, but not sticking thank goodness. Made it to Chicago's West Side last night in time to see brother-in-law profess final vows to become a Jesuit - funny, I'd thought he'd been 'official' all these years. Big Smile  Today there were the usual chores, then an interview-lunch with a young couple, one of whom is being considered to lead the kids ministry at our church. Nice to see the enthusiasm of youth. Smile

RT and Northwoods, I think of that all the time when running my dad's pre-war Lionels. I love how something from the 1920s just runs and runs.

Glad you're 'essential', Brutus

It's been just about 3 years to the day that a young son of a friend training with ComEd was killed when he made a mistake with live high-voltage wires up on a bucket truck  Sad  It was especially sad because he was so new. They honored him at the funeral with a line up of work trucks with their booms raised all the way up.

Bride is going on a retreat so I'll be Mr. Mom Sun through Tue morn.

Morning/afternoon all!

Cloudy and cool today - maybe 48 for a high and possible showers? Warms up again next week.

Lot of chores today - have a bathroom being refurbished by a contractor - he sanded all trim, fixed some sheetrock, repainting everything, and new light fixtures. I ordered a new countertop. It is 8 feet long and I helped to carry the old one out (cast resign design - two sinks - weighs 7,000 lbs) - I could barely lift it  - but we got it onto a dolly and then moseyed it out of the house. Need to bust it up and put out for bulk trash when I get back from my trip next week. So today I get to do some cleaning in there so my daughter can at least use the shower and toilet while we are wating on the new countertop/sinks.

Also need to find some new faucets, some cabinet handles, etc., for the contractor so he can reinstall the cabinets next week.

Hope everyone has a great day today!

Regards, Roy

Good afternoon Y'all!  Bit cloudy today...had plenty of rain and more is expected.  Am about to head to the train room and then some shopping later.  Got a phone call this morning about a long time friend who had MS.  He died today.  Bit on the sad side, but know that he is finally healed and in a much better place.

RT, having those stations is one thing, just make sure you use them!  Get back to full health.

John, did you know Jack Kalman?  I am friends with his sons.  Knew him for many years...had a different outlook on life, but a smart guy to boot.  Funny, his sons both ended up as deputy chiefs in the department I used to work for, also, Mr. Weiss, the guy from the other incident was a deputy chief in Newark FD.

Hope everyone has a great day...and Laz, we saw the evidence....under that look of disgust, we saw that smile of approval!

God Bless,
Dennis

Well the best took the better of me today and I finally broke out my PRR GP-9's from 1973-75 (yeah there between 36 and 38 years old) and never were run till today well at this point the dummy still hasn't but sure it will get run before the day is out. The A unit ran good but plan to open it up tonight and oil and lube where it should be just ran it for about 2 minutes 3 times around the track at a very moderate speed will take some pics later when run it again but with the Dummy unit with it guess these will be next to get converted to TMCC as I really like these I like GP's Plan to add lights and power pickups to the B unit so i can also add Coil couplers to it.

Beautiful day today. Sunny, 50 going to 58 with a little wind.

OOOOPS! sorry, you just heard that. But the temps would be the same just a mile away wouldn't it?

Dougdagrump - I'm glad you said that first not being funny but had to chuckle with John's guys accident because I was right there with you. As a matter of fact that probably fit right in with Don's video.

John - You can pick me up and I'll pay for the some of the gas (ouch).

Sir James I - I find that most sons are guilty of not visiting thier parents often enough (not true with daughters) I myself included. And we usually regret it. BTW I'll have a drumstick!

Good Morning from the Jersey Shore,

Beautiful day today. Sunny, 50 going to 58 with a little wind. Yard work after I help my wife and her sister at the ice cream shop. They defrosted and cleaned the freezers last night and the ice cream has to go back from the walk in shock box to the display freezers.

Today is my wife's birthday. Too much going on for her and my son so we may have to postpone going out until tomorrow. In between the yard work, I will have to run my trains today.

It looks like a lot of us have pressure from work. Try to leave it there and use the trains as therapy. Works for me.

Almost time to start getting the boats ready.

SJ, What time is dinner. I heard that we are all invited over. I will bring the banilla. AF53, Do you want me to pick you up or do you want to drive? We will have to swing over and pick up Rich and the rest of the Jersey Gang.

Thoughts and Prayers for all in need.

Have a Great Day,

John

Good Morning

50 with all night rain, lot's of ponding as the ground is froze. A turkey dinner here today with # 1 son and family, it's the only way we get him to come and visit us. They live a whole mile from here. It's not a family thing, he's just to lazy to come over. I did a little train running yesterday, no pile ups. Egg sandwich for breakfast...S.J.

Mitch, Try not to let work get to you. I know about pressure and I try to leave it at the door. I have a sign in my office that reads, Life is too short to give your employer all of your time. Nobody on their death bed says, "Gee, I wish that I'd put in just a few more hours of overtime". That also refers to taking work home and letting it get to you.

Morning to All.

John - I agree totally and I'm usually pretty good at leaving work at work, of course the hours are sometimes longer than I'd like. I'm not one who brings lots of work home or who goes in on weekends etc.  March is usually a very busy month at schools. State testing gets staff in a tizzy, kids are wound up because they've been cooped up for several month, etc.  This year is even worse with all of the snow days and the fact that the Easter/Spring break is not until the end of April.

Should be a great weekend going to celebrate our son's 26th birthday.  Going to have a light lunch, and then try to get to some of the museums at the Smithsonian and have a nice dinner out in DC. Hopefully the rain will hold off.

Looking forward to next weekend. I am going to head to the Keystone Division TCA Meet over toward Lancaster on Saturday. I'll try to report back.

Take Care,

Mitch.

It is a cloudy 54 degrees. Looks like rain any minute. Going up to 58 today.

This is a good day to stay inside and work on the layout. I have a few chores to do and then I will watch the Nascar race from the train room.

Just a quick pop in to say hello.  Celebrated Tyler's 8th birthday yesterday - he got a couple of cars to go with everything he has.  Christmas trains stayed up until two weeks ago, haven't set up anything yet in the interim.  I'm out to Tulsa for a week of training come Monday, so maybe after that I'll set up a track for me and the little ones to play with.

HELLO SPANK!

I don't think you have posted since Tyler's 7th birthday.Happy B-DayWhistling

Hey Pat:    Just a P.S. to my adventures in plumbing and heating:  Licensed pro's came during the week and took one look at my saran wrap and howled with laughter.  Laugh   They also said it would never pass code!   Surprise    Jr's all fixed up and the world  (my world)  can turn again.  Been taking your advice and spending some time on my covered porch with the doggies and alcholic beverages.  Ain't so bad after all; especially when I am "comfortably numb".   Wink   later.

Now you got it!  A covered porch is even better. Relax in any weather.

Plumbers will laugh at our temporary repairs, but I say it shows your ingenuity. A while back out water heater in the utility room started leaking. Rather than keep moping, I drilled a hole in the floor to let the water drip into the crawl space. Ever notice how leaky pipes, gas furnaces, the AC, Etc go out on the weekends?

Uhoh, sounds like someone is in Deep Kimchi. Blindfold

Evenin' All.

Good day at the museum, no pile-ups or TMCC problems. The Challenger and the C-420 both did yeomans work with nary a glitch or gotcha. Thumbs Up

Came home and rough-housed with the munchkin for a bit before mommy came and picked him up. Grampa is pooped. Dead

I'm sure that Chief can rustle-up some photos of the "Great Grits Caper", well planned and executed attack. Big Smile

It's not really funny but had to chuckle about the boom truck accident. Just a couple months ago where Caltrans is doing some expansion & upgrades to I-15 a double bottom dump truck went under an "under construction bridge" with one of the beds in a partially raised position. Needless to say he didn't make it to far after encountering a rather long and stout steel I beam.

Nite all, eyes are gettin' a bit fuzzy.

Howdy guys - big storms in Saint Louis tonight!  Found out I will probably be considered "essential" when/if they "shut down" the government for budget shenanigans, so I would be required to work for no pay until budget would pass and just pray they eventually decide to pay us.  Oh well, I guess if it was up to me I would close the office and kick the plug out on the auto-payment computers and see how long those guys thought it was a good idea to close the government.  I guess if it was their pay, things would already be balanced and done Laugh

Nice chat with RT, SJ, and Charlie - as usual.  Read the new issue of Trains - some neat stuff about fast trains.

Traindood - ingenius solution and I think you should be proud of your stop-gap plumbing skills!  Thumbs Up  Have a couple on me - in fact, Sam Adams for all.  Or we have Ole Mills, Blue Moons, and Fat Tires.  Turn on your beacons boys, gotta get out from under this storm and Mike is driving so it will be a bumpy ride!

Good Evening from the Jersey Shore,

The girls made it back safe from Baltimore and they had a great time.

Traindood, I just love plumbing. Bang Head A friend of mine told me a funny story today. He fixed a leak from the tank to the bowl in his toilet. After he installed it, it would not fill. He thought that maybe he messed up the fill valve in the tank because it was old and he laid it on the side to clean it. He figured that he would clean his hands and then procede. No water came out of the sink. None of the plumbing worked in the house. He ran around trying to figure out what happened. He looked out the front and they turned the water off in the street for about 5 minutes. He could not stop laughing.

Doug, I remember reading at a safety huddle about that accident.

Dweimer, I remember that accident too well. It was a real shame. A lot of the guys used to do that to save time. Because of that accident, we retro fitted all of our aerial lifts with an outrigger interlock system.

RI Jack, We get hit often in work zones with police and attenuator protection.

AF53, Ray, I did you a favor and I got you $3.55 cents for all of that old train stuff on ebay.

Thoughts and Prayers for all in need.

Good evening everyone, was a long day as I had to cover for someone who took vacation, didn't work too hard, just a long day.  Made some vittles for dinner and getting ready for bed.

With regard to the Great Grits Caper....that was fun to hear about.  There has also been a follow up, but I guess there will always be more shenanigans.  It was also a good with the Chief's avatar.  glad the CTT folks let us get away with that one.

John, one of my best friend's father was killed while working for PSE&G.  He was making a last pole run of the day and didn't put the outriggers out when going up in the bucket.  Truck turned over and killed him.  Happened in Little Ferry back in the 70's.  The work you guys do is very dangerous and one small moment of a lapse in judgement can have dire consequences....be careful out there!

If we don't have rain in the morning, I am going to take the kids to a park and take some photos.  More than likely, it will rain, so it might be a good day to work on the railroad upstairs.

I hope to check in later this weekend.  May each of you see the blessings around you and be grateful.
Dennis

PS: RT, we all try to get back to work before we should...it comes from the old work ethic that many these days seem to have not learned.  We are providers for our families and the thought of taking a day off when not on our death bed just doesn't come to our minds.  I do it too, but I also can medicate with some non drowsy meds and I wear a mask.  Just remember to always wash your hands, keeps from spreading germs and from getting them.  Also, keep your hands away from your face.  A good practice for you would be to keep one of the non-water hand sanitizer bottles in your pocket.  Anytime you have to touch another person at work, or even door knobs, elevator buttons, etc., you should just rub the sanitizer into your hands.

Hello all,

I've been like a long tailled cat in a room full of rockers. Not even time to lurk this week.

One of the guyz in the office fell on the ice last Friday and got a severe concussion. (there are only three of us) Saturday I found out one of our projects is in trouble and guess who was told to drop every thing and see what was going on. (I spent the weekend there) To top it off on Wednesday I was told by the customer to remove the Foreman.(from bad to worse)

I've got 60 hours in this week so far and at least 10 to go tomorrow. Sunday Mrs and I are hosting an open house for my folks 65th anniversary. (Guess how she feels about me working so much this week) I won't be working Sunday. Mrs bought most of the supplies this evening after work.

I'll try to catch up on the Pot when I get time. Sorry if I've missed any thing important.  I'm off to join my lovely Mrs. in bed

Prayers for those in need.

Don - That was a GREAT video, you made my night! My 23 y/o son loves to fish and when he gets back home tonight I'm sure he'll be on the floor like I was. I had to stop it 3 times, my eyes were watering from laughing, thanks!

Rt - you beat me to the punch with that youtube, it was the first thing I thought of posting tonight, but after reading through.......

John - I guess you don't have enough safety meetings????? Might I recommend 2 a day????? I'll be over this weekend to help you clean up some boxes from your house. I'm sure you have some you don't want!

Buckeye - Remember to build it 300 cubits long, 50 cubits wide and 30 cubits high!

Have a good weekend all!
