Good Morning from the Jersey Shore, 84 going to 92, with a 40% chance of Afternoon Thunder Strorms.

I got back from Church a little while ago. I was ushering and the Pastor started to ramble during the sermon and he repeated himself but in a different way. As I was scanning the congregation I knew that he was loosing all of them when they all, yes all 17, (early service and summer means light attendance), started reading the bulletin. After the service, 3 of the elderly ladies asked me to tell him to "speed it up". They have to help with the breakfast over the American Legion Hall next Sunday and they they don't want him to ramble on when they have things to do. (They are in their 80's and are really fiesty) They asked me to tell him to get to the point and move on. I am good friends with him and we fish together. When I went to approach him he said that he knew that he blew it and that the Legion breakfast is next Sunday. He saw the 3 ladies approach me and they looked ***. I said, "Talking to God again, like you said in the sermon". He laughed.

Bob, Take care of your health. The cars will be there when you are better.

Mike C, Sorry to hear about the girl's loss. That is a movie that my wife and I want to see.

Fife, Enjoy the Maritime Festival with your folks. I really like K-Line engines and cars. The assesories are great also. Whoever picks them, I hope will be able to duplicate the value and quality.

SJ, Glad that Granny is doing better. I had Shoofly Pie and Banilla last night. The Shoofly Pie came from  Dutch Haven in Ronks, Lancaster County, Pa. The pie and the homemade Banilla was delicous and I thought of you and got me a root beer to wash it down.

Chuck, Relax and enjoy the day. Dinning car is here. I think I will have some Shoofly Pie for breakfast since the wife is sound asleep. Some guys never grow up.

Chief, Thoughts and Prayers for your Mom, You and the Family.

Thoughts and Prayers for all in need.

John

Smilehey john excuse my ignorance.  what is shoofly pie?  i also heard that the company that owns williams also owns k-line dies.  it would be great if most of the k-line products were brought back. they made a couple of cool low priced articulated engines. navyjack

Smilehey john excuse my ignorance.  what is shoofly pie?

You have to go catch a bunch of shoe flies and remove all hairs and feathers and boil them down no no  won't go there its actually a very sweet pie made with molasses and sugar and eggs in fact here is a recipe for it

  • 1 (9 inch) unbaked pastry shell
  • 1 egg yolk, slightly beaten
  • FILLING:
  • 1/2 cup packed brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup molasses
  • 1 egg
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 cup boiling water
  • TOPPING:
  • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 3/4 cup packed brown sugar
  • 3/4 teaspoon baking soda
  • Dash salt
  • 6 tablespoons cold butter

i also heard that the company that owns Williams also owns k-line dies.  it would be great if most of the k-line products were brought back. they made a couple of cool low priced articulated engines.

I personally don't look forward to this as from time Bachmann took over Williams to now prices have jump big time and I can see the same happening with K-Line. Personally I feel ( although they won't) Lionel should Deni them TMCC technology  I personally feel that Sans has ruin to good products with help from Lionel on the K-Line side and will further doing so. I understand cost of living has gone up but to where us as club member was able to get trains and train sets almost half of what they want now for them even what retailers are willing to discount them is still about 30% more than it use to be and I bet there not really making the profit they use to as in %. At one point Bachmann tried to tell its distributors they could only advertise suggested retail price but a few states had laws against that and they had to back off.

I know Bachmann has the best warranty in the business and they produce a great product but Williams basically offered same warranty befor Bachmann took it over.

Hi GUYZ,

Been a while since I posted here.  Lots o work and summer is flying by.  I got my steel beam in and leveled the floor, thats the good news.  Bad news is that I have to cut out a 4x8 piece put down a 1/4 inch sheet a o plywood then pour floor leveler on it to keep tiles from cracking.  I will do this today and then start at putting slate ceramic tiles down tomorrow.  Tueday I help run the Lokie up at Pioneer Tunnel, all is well there.  Its great fun and I'm really getting the hang of it to maintaining the engine and also the knack to driving it.  Very HOT these days there, but makes the OL MILs taste that much better on Tuesday nites.  OH YEAH!!!!

The addition is about 75% done I just have to do tile and then make up kitchen cabinets at school before end o summer.  My train layout was taken down and won't be put up again till all this work is done.  I also have to do a new layout scheme.  Got to ponder that awhile.

CHIEF, PRAYERS for MOM, I feel for you.

FIFE, keep on sailing, watch out for leaks.

JELECTRIC,  I missed the BARRYs Super summer special the past 3 days, did you go?  I don't have a layout and in taking the old one down I figured theres not too much I really need anymore.

CHUCK, are ya still charming the young PT assistant?  Keep on trucking.

BUCKEYE, cool pics of the turntable at the steam town place in OHIO.

SUBBOB, prayers to you hope all works out.

Hope all are doing well?

Stay FROSTY,

Navy Jack, I doubt if those low prices will ever come back.  I suspect that the low price might have been a factor in K Line's demise.  They were making some quality products though.  Their passenger equipment was some of the best in the business.  I did get their Metrolink Bombardier commuter cars that I run with a MTH F59PH.  I have just about been priced out of the market now for new engines.  Just can't handle anymore of those $1000 per copy offerings.  I still have plenty of trains to run if I can keep them going.  They are not cheap to repair either.  Just spent about $120 getting a modern Z4000 transformer fixed.

Chief, prayers for your mom's peaceful passing.

Went to TCA Western Train meet yesterday.  My DCS friend and former layout operator for the club was still a no show.  Need to get in touch with him.  One member did run some standard gauge but had battery trouble with a MTH standard gauge engine and it would not run.

Re shoofly  pie, all I know is they had some around Strausburg Pa and the Pa. Dutch County restaurants.  Must be a local thing.  As for regional desserts, I could go for some bananna pudding which seemed to be a treat in the South.  My sister says, if you want to help a friend in need, you give them fried chicken and potato salad but if their problems are really bad, you also send bannana pudding.

Went to Raleigh church to be at an Asst. Pastor's retirement.  She had been an Asst. Pastor at Rolesville Baptist and a good friend.  Got a cell phone buzz around 12:10 from caregiver.  I hit ignore as the sevice was ending.  It buzzed again with second call from her.  That was the signal.  Mom had just passed.  On the way down east to handle things.  THANKS for all the prayers.  After what I saw yesterday, it makes it a lot better.

God bless.

Thanks to all.  Funeral hojme guy stayed duntil 7 PM so we could select things and get arrangments done.  Funeral will be at Eagles Baptist Church at 11 AM Tuesday.

Came home to a Yankee raid outside of Roseyville.  Looked like Atlanta was burning all over again. Shock We had a substation fire.  Maybe lightning hit it.  Lots was bouncing around earlier and then a small downpour.  Power was out to the whole town and this side of the county.  Just came on.  Well, Yanks must be still trying to get us as it has come on and gone off 4 times now.  As their exec. called and told me, they were "switching" the load around so we could get power until tomorrow when they bring in a portable transformer.  Seems only one burned.  So, with more switching, the other ones can come back on line.  About the time I get clocks sets and etc and this typed, it dropped again.  No popcorn tonight. Grumpy

Thanks again.
