Evening all!

Been so busy the last few weeks - no time to read or post. Hope all are well.

Doug M - my daughter just bought her prom dress today. She has had the same BF for the last year so hopefully nothing goes foul here. Sorry about the slug that ran out on your daughter. She'll get it worked out I bet.

My son has been doing great at soccer. His rec league team have won their first two games and he scored 3 of the 4 goals they have under their belt. His team needed this - something like 12 losing seasons (spring and fall) the past 6 years - with most of those years winless. Amazing his HS coach would not let him play much - and they lost all but one of their games (tie).

Good to see Jeff Gordon finally win one today and Tony Stewart is back in the mix. Now if Earnhardt and M  Martin can get back up there.

Supposed to get pretty cold tonight - 30's.

Hope everyone has a nice day tomorrow!

Regards, Roy

Fifey, The Tutors are back!!!!!! Approve  Sausey olde bunch. Shock

OK Doug M, send round trip ticket [train, airlines too messy to transport rifle] plus rental car costs, a picture ID of subject and map to subject's hangout.  REB sharp shooter with one .17 to the head.  All over with.  No Southern Gentleman would ask a lady to the Prom and then suddenly dump her.  Well, he is a Yank and that helps explain it.  Still, the REBS will always stand up for a Lady's honor.

Good night.

Doug M, Talk about somebody being a weasel. Thumbs Down

Spent the day trying to get some yardwork done in the backyard, pruning and repotting those Sago Palms are a major pain. Even with the leather gloves I still ended up with stickers in my hands, don't know how I didn't get any in my arms since they were not covered. Day 2 tomorrow, Sigh

Yesterday was service the engines I ran friday and get the Easter train ready for this coming friday. Most of the train is ready, just a few finishing touches to do. Clown

Have a good week all.

Doug--what a bummer for your daughter, HOWEVER, I'm betting she will still have a fine evening with her friends and a month from now it won't matter, 5 years from now she will laugh about it.  Stupid prom's, WAY over rated, three things I resolved to do when I retired: never go to another prom, never ever go to another graduation (I still have horrible flash backs about those Sunday saunas in the gym--35 of 'em) and NEVER EVER ride another yellow bus.  So far so good Cool

Laz & Patrick - it was a little pricey, but the beer was ice cold and my sandwich was great!  The scenery was very nice too Wink  Check out the website:  http://www.tiltedkilt.com/

I checked them out on the web. Looks like a fun place to be.

I have been known to be a little dense, but I still can't figure out the name, especially the "Tilted" part of Tilted Kilt. Any ideas? Confused

Roy, glad you checked in.  Hope things are well down in Teh Has!  Are you going to York?  I will actually be going this month....see what this York thing that everyone speaks of is all about.

Nice morning work wise, but the weather is another story.  I was in my morning quiet time and the rain was heavy with strong winds to boot.  Debris from trees all around.  Hope it does not get too much worse as ground is saturated and trees are sure to fall.

I am off call this week and since the kids have spring break, we will try to do some fun things when I am done here.  Planning on going to the "Fun Park" which has laser tag, bumper boats, bowling, etc. this afternoon.  Later in the week, we hope to have some friends over for a BBQ.  One friend is retiring from the USMC and has a young child and one in the oven, so it will be nice to have he and his wife over.  Also have some planning to do for the next movie.  I am looking forward to that.  It will be hard to top the last one, but with God, all things are possible.

God Bless,
Dennis

Mornin' Fellas.

Busy weekend at the abode. Mom and Dad came down for a visit to the Cherry Blossom Festival. We went to Gladchuck Brother's in Frederick, MD for dinner on Friday - excellent food, incredibly huge portions for the price, etc. If you live in the area, or are visiting and looking for good food this is one of the best in the area! Saturday we were up at 6:30 and in D.C. @ 9:30. Took the Red Line from Shady Grove to Metro Center, stood in line to get on the Blue/Orange Line for @ 20 minutes then caught a cab to the Washington Monument. 60+ MPH winds made for a very interesting day. Headed back to Mt Airy @ 12:30. Then had lunch at a deli in Germantown (it is a long MD 118 south of 270), another highly recommended place for a large lunch on a budget. Then home to rest, watched 'A Bridge Too Far' kind of makes you wonder how we won WWII with all the miscommunication with the Brits, and also highlights why, during War, you don't always follow your orders to a 'T'. Then dinner at Mrs K's Tollhouse in Silver Spring... had dinner in their wine cellar at a large table (big enough for at least 14 and still have elbow room) and again another highly recommended dinning experience in the area - although not for those on a budget 5 people, 3 bottles of wine, = $450 after tip! Shock Kind of a shocker there!

Spent Sunday realigning the track around the town. I have added 6 inches of depth for the town but am thinking of reducing that to 3 - if I can. Also thinking of adding a bumpout to the layout of about 12 inches and realigning the lower level tracks. See on the lower level you only see trains for a 25 inches on one side of the layout and about 6 feet on the other. I would say approx 85 - 90% of the track isn't viewable. If I add the 12 inch bumpout infront of the town I can reduce that from 85 - 90 to about 55%, just have to see if it is viable/doable and still have enough room to comfortably view the town.

Also realigned the Atlas Double Track Truss Bridge... for those that have seen the layout or pictures, you may recall that on the left side there was a 3 inch overhang that did not appear 'natural', well I found a way to remove that 3 inch overhang and the bridge now rests on top of the tunnel portal coming up from the first level. Personnally I think it turned out OK, now thinking about buying the roller bearings from Scenic Express to make it complete... will post pictures later to illustrate what I did and why.

Fife - sounds like a nice haul at the train show. I don't think I would have gone, if I could, because I'm trying to save my $$$ for York.

DougM - Sucks about your daughter. Just illustrates how poorly kids are raised today... very low class what he did. As for Proms being overrated, they are for guys but for young ladies they have pretty much replaced the old 'debutant balls' of the past.

Gosh darnit... I forgot to get Buckeye's off the table this morning. Banged Head I knocked the box off the layout yesterday when I was working on realigning track and there were peanuts EVERYWHERE! Shock But the car was safe and sound on the other side of the layout. Thumbs Up

JimT - Forgot to reply to you over the weekend.

No trash compactor... the buildings were still on the dinning room table when my parents arrived on Friday... Dad walks into the dinning room, "Hey Brent, are you trying to become a statistic?" Laugh Gotta love my Dad! Smile.

As for the Firehouse - nope Kurt sent me a link to an eBay auction, did a 'buy it now' and when I was at the LTS on Friday they had one that just came in through an estate buy... could have gotten it from him, along with the Hard Rock Cafe, for less than what I paid for the Firehouse! Banged Head Oh well... I just keep saying that I'm doing my part to help the economy recover. Wink

Good morning all,

It is SNOWING is SE Indiana this morning (either that or some stray grits from NC).  Roy, good to hear your son is doing well at soccer.  Dennis, if you do your next movie with a soccer theme to it, I will be happy to serve as a technical "consulant" :-)  I even have some ideas/concepts/lines you could use.   Something along the approach that life and heaven is like a soccer game.  In life, your "goal" is to get to heaven.  In soccer, your "goal" is the back of the net.  You either get to heaven or you don't.  You either get the ball in the back of the net or you don't.  Maybe I should leave the theology to some of the others on the pot.  I think I overdid with the thumb this weekend.  I had bran muffins on the dining car this morning.  I hope everyone has a good day.

Keep on training,

Mike C. from Indiana

Morning all. Grey and cold here, after snowing all night, it's almost magically gone. Maybe half-an-inch on the ground this am. Must be above freezing. Though only in Chicago would Opening Day be cancelled (Sox) because of the weather. But Good news for the princess - after a weekend of heartache, (and almost calling in the Chief), a boy heard about her situation and asked her to the prom last night. She feels 'redeemed'.

Mike C and Kurt, where do you watch the F1 race on TV?  Speaking of boxcars, LNE on way to you, Kurt.

Dennis, your boy sure is smart!  My youngest and I spent a long time putting together one of the smaller Star Wars Lego spaceships.

Glad for Brent's nice weekend!

GREAT NEWS Doug !!!  That's wonderful!!!!  (We have a jilted one here too!  Chris and girlfriend broke up after 2 years, he is devistated.  Trying to council him, but not real effective.  Really down in the dumps, and LOTS of free time on his hands.  I'm sure this too will pass.)

HI GYZ,

55 and rainy here.  Good for my newly planted grass seed, bad for our swollen trout stream.  Oh well, ran trains last nite for two hrs.  Watched drag racing before running trains, then caught the last half of movie Saving PVT. RYAN.  Went to bed at 12 got up at 430 to do my workout.  Tired, but best part is we  have a 3 day week.

DOUG, glad daughter found a date.  Big time here too, these proms.  When I went to school only the rich kids went.  We had a class of 636 and only about 200 attended the Sr. Prom.  We couldn't afford it.  Oh well, I survived.

Stay frosty,

Good Day All,

On lunch break and actually not needing to work on something so I can have a lunchbreak.

DougM – The comments by others is correct, but for your daughter it still hurts.  Too bad.  Proms are vary over rated.

Rich – I mailed out DougM’s car Saturday

Brent – Get the firehouse and the Hard Rock, keep the best fire house and re-sell the lesser one.

MikeC – In theology we were told that all analogies ultimately fall short, but are useful as a learning aid or to make a point.

May God bless

Good Morning,

I have been extremly busy the past week with the wife having off from work, couldn't get time to get on here.

Went to train show on saturday in Pompano FL, not much to tell except that somebody had a live model steam engine running in G gauge, very interesting to see. The guy had another live steam engine and this one used alcohol to burn.

I might go to Miami FL later in the week for some track switches in GarGraves.

Ezak, sorry but I can't help you to upgrade your DCS unit, I still have 3.2 in DCS.

Brent – Get the firehouse and the Hard Rock, keep the best fire house and re-sell the lesser one.

Sturg - I would but I don't want to go through the hassel of selling one! Smile They are both NEW In Box, never opperated. The one I bought also came with the shipping carton - as though that really matters. Confused I keep some of my boxes, but not all. I will keep the Firehouse, Hard Rock Cafe, Barber Shop, Gas Station and any other unique buildings, but I am not sure I will keep the boxes for the more common buildings... they just take up so much space!

I also have an MTH Firehouse and MTH Original McDonalds that I now need to unload - they are too large to put on the layout (footprint wise) and don't look right next to the Lionelville buildings... Problem is they are so common they are hard to sell! Sad I may keep the MTH Firehouse and decorate it for christmas and use it on the X-Mas layout... we'll see.

Morning all!

Busy weekend.  Cleaned part of the garage, and installed gutters Saturday.  Boy do we have a lot of junk.  Sunday was ribs in the smoker...I think I ended up with too much smoke if that's possible.  I still can't do pork in that thing.  My Brisket is the best, but I just can't seem to do pork of any kind.

Spent some time doing a cardboard model of a new station project.  I'll post photos when I get a little further along.

Doug:  Date No. 0 (pronounced 'zero'), better be in the hospital to break off prom.  Glad she found a date!  So you're Bride will be giving up a kidney to pay off the Prom garb?  You thought they were just going out for a dress...  Laugh  I think they softened you up with the week to yourself.  F-1 is on the Speed Channel.  Good race this week, except for the rain.  Funny, most teams seem to have disconnected or are not using the kinetic boost device.

LAZ:  Skeet and Golf is a great idea!

Tilted Kilt?!  Looks like a fun place.  Do women wear Kilts?  Are the skirts they wear called Kilts?  We have a place in Detroit called the Old Shelaileigh.  No girls playing dress-up, but live irish music, and you sit at old wood picnic tables!

I love those irish dancers and the girls playing the fiddle ! I got lucky and my oldest son took me and the wife to the original RIVERDANCE show for our anniversary . We were both goin nutsy with the girls in the show edging us on . Best time I've had in years ... our wives kept giving us the evil eye ... but who cared ... LOL . All the men loved it ... those girls make that show a wild fun time ... believe me ... and the more the crowd goes bezerk .... the wilder the performers got ... I did'nt know a woman could get into some of the positions they did while playing a fiddle or dancing ... WOW !

Hello All,

Had a great weekend. Wife and I had the privilege of baby sitting the grandkids Saturday evening. They were content to watch the trains for at least half an hour. Usually they last about 10 minutes

That was about the limit of train time. I spent most of Saturday replacing the rear rims on my Oliver Super 55. They were severely rusted from the calcium that escaped during leaky tires over the years.

Sunday was a lazy day. Wife & I went to an Easter Party with daughter and grandkids. Then I dug Easter Decorations out of attic and helped wife decorate.

8N, how’d you make out with your mower

Ole Timer - By chance are talking about a BW80?  The BW80 came before the CW80 and was the controller and a brick.  Since manufacturers don't build things any beefier than necessary I'd be hesitant to use any brick other than the one that came with it.

Kurt--

How are you doing your ribs? Temp/time?  I think I've got that one down in our smoker along with stuffed pork loin with home made chirazo and the brisket.  I'm anxious to get serious again now that winter is over, I may do that turkey in the smoker that I sent you the recipe this Sunday.  And yes, you can get too much smoke of the ribs, especially if you are using hickory chunks.

If was good to see the skyline of Roger's Corners after a fast trip to D.C., but somewhere I have picked up a head cold.  Sad

While in D.C. visited the new WWII memorial.  Very impressive.  The cherry blossoms were out around the tidal pond.  We ate lunch in the Smithsonian.  Drove to Baltimore. The B&O Museum needs more money and more land.  Absolutely the best collection but need to improve the display.  (See California RR Museum.)  The California collection is good, but the B&O has  the most historical pieces.

Driving in Maryland is an experience.  They let you drive at a shade under 60 MPH and that is on the city streets.  On the interstate, the throttle was wide open as we roared through the mountains.  Saw a few of fife's friends sitting in the median admiring the drainage.  I waved at them as we roared past.

As always, I paid a visit to the Baltimore National Cemetery out near Frederick. I don't know when I first visited the cemetery, but I was under five years old.  Everytime I'm near Baltimore, I stop to see how my Dad, Grandfather and Grandmother are doing.

Tunnel portals arrived and the layout is going to get more scenery.  I am adding at least six new portals.  I found these on ebay.  They are the new K-Line.

BTW, has the Chief been behaving?

I first visited the cemetery when I was  I think I read that there are 44,000 vets buried there.  The O'Hare family takes up three of the plots.

Jon:  The smoker is a Meco? electric torpedo smoker...just a little one...Air temperature was about 35-degrees.

  • Added 6-cups water, and 2-cups apple juice to the bucket, all boiling.
  • Started smoker 1-hour before the ribs went in to get it up to temperature, along with 4 medium chunks of hickory
  • Cooked 5-1/2-hours @ 220-degrees.  Added 4-chunks of Hickory after 2-hours.
  • Removed ribs from smoker, (they were black with smoke) sprayed them with apple juice, wrapped in alum foil, placed in brown paper bag, and into a foam cooler to rest for 1-hour.

The ribs cooked correctly...the meat was receeding from the ends of the bones, just too smokey.

How much wood do you add?

Kurt
