I'm with you, SJ, especially outdoors.  A couple of the folks in my neck of the woods with houses from the 1670s light the white candle lamps year round at night in their windows to showcase their vintage homes.

Took the 5 year old grandduaghter out looking at the lights in Lincolnwood Illinois this past Christmas where one decorated house is more stunning than the next....to me.  But the ones with the colored lights are the ones that grab the little one's attention.  DougM.....worth the 45 minute drive for you and yours next Christmastime.  You can dine at Super Dawg while you are at it, about 5 minutes due West of Lincolnwood.  Lou Malnatis deep dish pizza at in Lincolnwood at Lincoln and Crawford Anenues 2 minutes away if dogs are not your cuisine of choice.  They've got beer at Malnatis.

RI, one of the joys of christmas is driving around looking at the Color lite displays, the white lites just don't do it for me. Too many houses decorated with white. kind of bland. Who started this white lite thing anyway.

Morning all. Busy night dealing with teen drama and a clogged toilet. So bad I'll actually have to call a plumber today. Hope today is better and class tonight. Congrats on being an uncle again, Brutus!

DougM.....having had decades of experience with clogged toilets, I have semi-retired the plunger and use an old 5 foot length of gardern hose with the brass cut off to snake and clear obstructions.  Has worked every time, so far.  Doesn't scratch the porcelain  Childrens' small toys may be problematic.  Had one of those clogs in the main sewer pipe in the basement a few months back.  Plumber was more expensive than my orthopedic surgeon.

Good Mornin, Ya'll,

After an incessant period of below normal temps and snowfall after snowfall, we continue to be spared of both.  Despite the warmer temps, there's still significant snow cover on the northern exposure of the homestead.  Unfortunately for me, the snow melt has put me in the dog house with the wife.  Dog piles exposed in the snow that the wife had ordered picked up weeks ago.  Should have gone out and spray painted them white before she noticed them.  Better yet, should have put white food coloring #14 in the dog's food.

danrunner.....ah, yes, the Christmas tree light controversey, colored versus white.  I know that one well.  About 15 years ago the better half decided our sizeable investment in colored Christmas lights was not cutting it for her artistic tastes.  So those got "stored" while she went about reloading with the white ones.  Inside on the tree, on the staircase garland, and on the fireplace mantel garland.  White spotlight to illuminate wreath on front door.  White lights on all of the outdoor trees.  And white candles with brass bases in all of the windows.  As with most things that fit into the category of Christmas decorations, we have enough to trim 3 homes.  And the end is never in sight.  This past year I pulled out everything Christmas and left it in the hall and all over the living and dining rooms.  Wife displeased with the mess, then began the classic "Oh, look, the (fill in the blank) from our first (fill in the blank).  I thought that would finally trigger a realization in her that we don't need any more Christmas "stuff."  Wrong! Banged Head

Chief.....hope your cough has cleared up and that they don't carve you up to badly at the Doc's.  Your appearance couldn't stand another hit.  Laugh

Brent.....I've taken my wife on getaways where we had nothing to do (planned) and all the time in the world to do it.  Door County Wisconsin, Napa Valley, and Barbados.  Sometimes "nothing" is "everything."  I'd like to hook up with some of our dispersed friends at the vintage car races next September in Watkins Glen New York.  The finger lakes region is beautiful.  And the biggest decisions have to do with eating, drinking, and catching up with old friends while drooling over all of that old iron.  Rich and Dennis posted on old hemi and 440 Challengers.  Watkins Glen has everything vintage automotive!  In addition to seeing the cars up close and personal, you get to see all of them circle the original road course and down Main Street, then see them out there in their glory on the current road course with many losing common sense and actually duking it out. fender to fender.

DougM.....wish the rest of the guys on the Forum could get to Chicago to see everything the city has to offer.  Brutus is planning a family trip this Summer.  The rail museum out your way, the lakefront, and all of the other great museums.  Wife tuned in Anthony Bourdain's "No Reservations" on TV last night to watch an hour long program on Chicago's exceptional dining opportunities.  Dinner  The Silver Palm, an old converted train car.  Also saw the Calumet Fishery, Burt's Place (pizza) in Morton Grove, Fat Johnnies on the South side.  My favorite was Hot Doug's for hot dogs which Bourdain said was on someones' top 50 restaurants anywhere, regardless of cuisine or price (lines out the door).  If you are into hot dogs, take the younger to Super Dawg at the corners of Milwaukee and Devon on the city's Northwest side.  It's the old drive in style place where they take your order from your parking spot in the lot and the waitresses in the Summer deliver your faire, hook the platter of food to your car window.  At least that's what they used to do.  About 40 minutes from your place.

Rich.....continued prayers for Dave's recovery.  And Thumbs UpThumbs UpThumbs Up for your helping his business out while he is in his hour of need.  Years from now you will have long forgotten 2009 bike week at daytona, but he will remember what you did for him when he needed it most.  Your kids are taking notes too.

Brutus.....seems like your household can't catch a break.  Prayers for your daughter that she's back in action shortly.  Congratulations on more "UNCLEHOOD."  Sounds like a train is in someones future next Christmas.  Thanks for letting Sir James drive the Tardis.  That guy sure can drive smooth, must have been a race car driver in a former life.  Plus his expertise learned from years of dodging bullets around Detroit sure came in handy passing over Roseyville and Chief's last night.  Tardis bomb site was working to perfection.  Wonder how he's going to get the beer cans out of his gutters.i  Big Smile

Don.....I'm with you about someone taking pot shots at someone's layout pictures and video by giving the guy's thread a low star ranking.  Malcontents wishing they could do the same in their living room, pure jealousy.  Say a prayer for folks like that.  They need it.

Wes.....us Jacks have to stick together.  Hope his pink eye gets straightened out and you don't catch it.  Jack needs another train gift to comfort him! Smile,Wink, & Grin  Prayers that the house hunting bears all the fruit you can handle.  A basement for the trains.  What more could you ask for?

Patrick....when you go to liberate your pink flamingos from Fife, remember to do it in stealth mode.  He's packing. Smile

Fife.....re another sailboat in your future, bet there are a lot of nice ones that came up for sale recently due to the current state of affairs.  Are you seriously looking?

Later, gang.

Morning!

Nice chat with Brutus yesterday afternoon!  Thanks for calling.

Jim:  Saurkraut on pizza?  That's a new one...Bride limits my preparation of saurkraut to once a month maximum.  If you like saurkraut, you might try cabbage KimChee.  A Korean dish of spicy hot, soured, pickeled cabbage, to name one type.  There are many types of KimChee appetizers, from potato salad to seaweed.

Worked on Sand house this am.  Plan to take the girls out to see some dinosaurs this afternoon at the natural history museum...Hope to get them napping early, as they woke at 5:00am.

Pretty quiet day.

Morning.  Off to Dr..  Bet I get spots carved away.  Glad I looked a calendar.  No harrassing phone calls I usually get from some machine reminding me.  Thought that was a hoot.  Sunny and warmer.  Got down into the 20's last night.  That was cold as had not been around such temps for a few days.  Actually one guy reported snow flurries yesterday afternoon in Roseyville.  A lot warmer today.  The "special" breakfast was blocked at the MD line by the grits patrol. Whistling  Have a good one.

Wes Good luck with the house.  Hope Jack's feelin' better soon.

jonadel - Ioway is kinda land-locked...where did you have a sailboat, and what kind?

Some of our "mid-life" crisis' involve buying a Harley, or a Corvette, or a 24-year-old named Heather...  Mine involves either a 33' Ericson or 34' Hunter...

Fife--

The best 9 years of my entire life was when I owned a sailboat.  Period.  I'll try and elaborate later if you are interested, I've been busier than a one armed paper hanger and I'm on my way out the door in 5 minutes, again.  The next time I retire..................

Just a quick stop in to say hi...

Jack has pink eye today, so I need to get him to the doctor for some meds.

We found the perfect house last night, and put an offer on it.  2 other people looked at the same house, so lets home that they accept our offer.  This house is 10-15 minutes from work (Im 45 minutes from work now), and is everything that we are looking for.  There is even a finished basement with a big train room!

Already looking forward to York in the fall...

Good morning all,

IIABSDISEI with temps in the 40s (finally a good weather day!)  Rich, thanks for fixing the Tardis.  I don't suppose anybody remembers me saying some time ago it kind of pulled to the left???  No wonder it was doing so.  I heard that Spock fellow was pretty smart, but kind of unemotional, sort of.  Beacon is lit for tonight and it will be interesting to see how it handles. Brutus, good to hear some good news.  Did the YMCA routine, looked at taxes.  Had a good day at work.  Surprised myself at how much I got done.  Did some Second Life.  I had bacon and biscuits on the dining car for breakfast and sent it on to "Points East" fully stocked.  There is an extra section today bound for North Carolina and Georgia so that the Chief and Dweimer can get some good breakfasts for once :-)  (No Grits)  I hope everyone has a good day.

Keep on training,

HI GYZ,

18 here to get to 38?  Sloppy weather tomorrow into Thurs?

Well I got 2 right hand, and 2 left hand, K-line switches yesterday.  Got them just down the road from me about 18 miles away.  A GUY, who runs a small train shop out of his house had them.  I use  to go there about 5 years ago, and just remembered he had lots of K-line stuff.  Called and he had a few left, got them for$32 each.  I Installed them and they work GREAT!  No Problems with my new CNW S2 Switcher with Legacy.

DAN, great to see some HUNKS on DA FORUM.

STURGE PHISH, nice plane and layout looks great.

Stay Frosty,

 Morning folks.

Just stopping in to say hello.  Had a nice three day weekend.  Watched the race on Sunday. Yesterday the Mrs. and I went shopping and then out for a belated Valentine's dinner (avoided the crowds).  We went to a little hole in the wall seafood joint in Frederick, MD.  Had some of the best fried oysters that I've had in a long while.  Almost as good as my Momma makes.  Back to work today, no kiddos, as it is a professional day for teachers.  Between holidays, weather closings and professional days it seems that schools have closed for students more than they are open.  This is the last of the holidays/days off until Easter break unless Mother Nature has other thoughts.

Well breakfast is ready.  Oatmeal with a handful of pecans and some hot coffee.

Have a gret day.

Mitch

Don I don't even look at stars anymore as I honestly believe a lot of the time the low rating is by accident and wish they would do them away as most times they don't give accurate reading of the post in question.

Morning all time to get moving have to go to work this am. Sigh

Don, I agree the stars add little and if someone uses them to belittle another person it is a shame and I pray for the person who would do that, that they would become more Christ - like in their actions.

Evening All !  I'm a little ticked.

Rant --- This morning I saw 3 different threads from a guy in Nevada, one was related to a layout in his living room, another a slide show, and the third a link to a TTOS club in Boulder City, NV.  I only had time to look at the first video.  It was really well done, and an excellant layout.  Of course it was a bit unusual for it to be in the living room.  But, it certainly was well done.  As we know if you put stars on something it usually causes additional review and even comments.  Just because of a rating.  Now what I don't understand, is WHY someone would go give a LOW star rating to a thread that only contained a guys personal layout.  I know someone enjoys downrating the SPF and Pot.  But, that doesn't really matter, because those that enjoy those threads don't even pay much attention to the ratings, and they don't matter anyway.  IMO the whole star system could just be dropped and it would not be any loss at all. SoapBox

Speaking of interesting threads, Marty E., put up a real interesting one regarding handheld remotes for the Legacy.  Chief will find it amazing!

Our trip to the Kodak theatre got cancelled due to security provisions that heighten on a daily basis, we waited too long.  But we decided to make the trip anyway, and go to a Train Shop in Burbank.  Bought 1 car, a Wonder Bread/Hostess Cake hopper car. Came home and ran trains for ahile and "No Pile Ups".  Really impressed with the MTH AC4400, had 16 scale cars.  Of course Chris decides that there is $1k engine, that he thinks HE really need.  So told him to just pull out his money and buy it.  Unfortunately he didn't.  LOL

Understand the Chief is going to make a surprise attack on Pennsylvania !!!

Good luck y'all.

Hope everyone has a good day tomorrow.

Good Night

Don

SJ & Buckeye Laugh  Yeah, we had to fill in some holes in the bottom of the Tardis last time we tried to pick up the Chief, so now we just buzz his Lake House and toss out the empties!  Pirate

Had nice talks and email chats with Kurt, Sir James and RT today.  Ran around looking for a metal brake.  Found one, but it was 36 inches wide - way too much for my project(s).  Found a smaller 18 inch model on Micro Mark I think I'll order when I get my next allowance.  Wife stayed home with sick daughter while my son and I were running around.  I think I'll be off work tomorrow, since my wife was off a lot last week.  No trains today, except that I watched an old English movie, The Ghost Train, that had a few good scenes and some good jokes as well as some real groaners.

Danrunner - thanks for the compliment Wink  We tried having me give her model numbers on the phone so she could look on the computer, but apparently the stores don't have the same stuff that is on the internet, so we gave up and will try another day.

In GOOD news, I found out that I'm going to be an uncle Again!  My baby sister who just got married last September is pregnant Big Smile  That'll be the 11th grandchild for my folks Thumbs Up  They are out of state in Des Moines, so I expect there will be a lot of long visits from my Mom!

Okay, the Tardis is ready and sounds like Rich did a great job - wow!  I didn't know it was in such bad shape, but that might explain the Loop-De-Loops, so Sir James can drive again tonight!  Rich, Kurt, RT, Doug, Mike, Dennis, Jack, Patrick, Charlie, Dan and all the others, we'll be along to pick you up soon!

RIP Chewy - best dog I ever had.

Evenin' All.

Whew what a day ! Got home about 2 in the afternoon and have just kinda veged out since then. Alarm clocks at 4 am are the pits, made it to the museum at 6 and from there on out it was semi-controled chaos.

Charlie, Love the lava lamp, a shame one hasn't been done as an "aquarium car". Maybe someone will figure out how to do it sometime. Hhmmm, what about a "snowglobe car" with a track powered impeller to keep the snow/sparklies moving.

Chief, If fife pulls flamingoes out of his trunk instead of flares how & where does he light them. Shock

Pick me up Brutus, I'll leave the light on for you!

Good Evening

Lots of chit-chat on here today. As for the Chief not being on the Tardis, us yanks won't go down there after dark to get him. If I want to get shot at all I need to do is drive into Detroit. Spent some time on the phone with Brutus and Charlie today, we talked trains, drywall mud, more trains, but I did not run any. I got bored and turned on the tv  found an all day run  on the Si Fi channel of "Dead Like Me" hasn't been on for about a year so I really enjoyed seeing the shows. Well Banilla is waiting so Brutus fire up the thingy and lets go...S.J.

Fife – The horse shot was priceless

What horse shot?  All I saw was the Chief riding on a cattle car.  Laugh

Speaking of the Chief, us Buckeyes can't wait until July.  Mischief

LawsonFarmsRR
I didn't see Chief on the Tardis. Is there a reason for that?

Patrick....The guys in charge of the TARDIS have good taste plus they don't want the seats soiled due to his constant consumption of grits, popcorn, ground hog and sweet tea.

Sturgeon-Phish
Don – I believe you are right about Spanky starting the SPF.

Yes, almost five years ago Spankybird, aka Tom, started the Sunday Photo Fun.  He has contributed hundreds of photos to the forum over the years for every one's enjoyment.  Every once in a while you can see the Circus Trains on the layout.  Years ago, one of his photos indicated that he had black smoke rolling out of a steamer.  You should have seen the questions that hit the forum.  For some unknown reason, there is a couple of people who seem to not enjoy the SPF and rate it accordingly.  Just like the TV, they don't have to watch.

Sturgeon-Phish
Najlb1 – Strange, that car looks a little different.

Najlb1 that is a decent job, but just wait until the graphics arts department of OTTS gets their hands on the .........I better say nothing more. Mischief
