Good Afternoon everyone!  Brent, glad you and Susie Q had a good time away....you both deserve it as I know you've had a lot going on this past year.

Rich, all this talk about good Italian food is getting me hungry!  The only way we have good Italian around here is if I make it myself.  I am good with meals and cakes/pies, but fall short when it comes to pastries.  We had a place called "Hackensack Pastry Shop" right across the street from Engine 2.  They have the best canoli anywhere.  We used to get a box and eat all day on them things.  Also, was thinking of Jersey last night as I was downloading some music from "Eddie and the Cruisers"...can make one homesick.  Anyway, sorry to hear that he is still being kept in a coma.  I'll email you.

Don, I'm not too worried about being caught up in the same company as the Chief.  Just have to watch any future trips to the other side of the Mason Dixon line, and any packages coming from that way.  I only get North about once or twice a year...hey, wait a minute, you may be right.  I may want to stay clear after all.....Dead

Well, I have to get going.  Was going to leave earlier, but glad I didn't as we had an emergency case from the cath lab.  Not a operative candidate, but still had to intervene.  Will check later.  Hope everyone has a blessed week ahead.

Dennis

Need to figure out how to get painted decals off the side ( metal upright for the cars) without hurting the paint already there. Also may need some help on removing from plastic the writing Lionel put there as now it Say's Dodge and the dodge emblem . I have 2, 1963 and 2, 1957 corvettes on the car now lol

Guess the metal shouldn't be that hard but Leary of the plastic as don't want to melt it lol.

Good afternoon - almost quittin' time!!

Whatta weekend!! News is not good from the LTS, Dave is alive but there have been some life changing events and safe to say he'll make it, just may have to make an adjustment.  The whispers of the store closing came up again, I expressed running it for the duration, being open at night, but we'll see.  I was there until after 6 Saturday night.  I have to do my real job Saturday, so no train store this Saturday.  Was going to take off the 28th for Bike Week, but I think this is more important.  Maybe Sunday or Tuesday.  I'm going to try to visit Dave tonight, even though he still in a medical coma.

Went to dinner after dropping the Princess off at a friends house.  Had a nice Italian dinner, went for coffee and picked up the Princess at 10:30.  Went to bed after midnight.

Sunday went to the International Car & Truck show down town (prior to the 500, er 422) saw some of the new stuff (wish I had the cash for a Challenger R/T) came home cleaned the house and the train room.  Listened to the Devils game had the sound off of the TV for Daytona.  (BTW, hit the 500 pool when Kenseth was declared the winner...!)  Made leftovers for dinner and cleaned up the kitchen after.  A little time for myself and was reclinerized!!  Hit the bed about 10 ish.

I stole the keys to the Tardis, brought into the shop using the the remote scanalyzer and nuclear ion tracker.  Found the right side trans warp induction coil malfunctioning, so using my 3/8th metric spanner wrench and a small 10lb sledge, removed the offending coil and replaced it with a newer updated trans warp induction coil and laser guided intergalactic stabilizer.  The inclusion of the Mr Fusion Boiler/Broiler/MatterScatter-er helped.  The flux capacitor was also interferring with the left side Johnson Rod and it needed some relative bearing grease to make it right.  A quick trip to the 23rd Century and consult with the factory rep (a gentleman with strange ears named Spock) verified the repairs and we should be good to go.  If you could pick me up last, that would be great, I'll have to find some goodies for us to snack on.

 See ya later!

Rich

Afternoon all

Cleaned up the house after the kiddos, did up some laundry burned a brush pile and took some pics for SPF, now for nap before work.

Don – Don’t worry, I am hopelessly addicted to SPF, I just did not want to make anyone think they should or need to wait on me to start the SPF, that’s all.

Fife – The horse shot was priceless

Kurt & Laz – ever have sauerkraut on pizza?  We even dress up a frozen pizza with it!

Patrick – whenever I see a flamingo I think of Fife, I try to put at least one flamingo in every SPF.

Well nap time, check back in tonight when Don & I are the only ones up

May God bless

Jim

Back from visiting the Art Institute. In their architecture library, I found a photo of the building I work in - used to be the HQ for Kimball Pianos (appropos of our piano discussion of a while back). Glad you had a good time on your trip, Brent

I used to have a RARE and beautiful box car similiar to the one below until the Chief wrecked it.  Sigh  I can't wait until my PIT BULL Lawyer files the lawsuit against the Chief and Roseyville.

I wish I could to. Did you see Sat. race where #38 was fined 5 laps for doing the very same thing Dale Jr. did Sun.? Maybe it depends on who you are or how popular you are. Personally, I say let um run. Approve

Are those my pink flamingos? Do I get some MD state money for there use? Mischief

Lionroar,

Rt 40 through Laurel Highlands is awesome.  Take the wife to Nemacolin resort for lunch or the Summit Inn sometime.  Frank LLoyd Wright's Falling Water home is right there, too.

Laz, you're a "Hunkie" like me.  Cabbage rolls, Nut rolls, Kielbassa, pirohi...that's my dad's side of the family's version of soul food.

Laz .... sauerkraut soup ?"  I love fried sauerkraut .... ya know drain it ... throw it in the skillet .... add a few tabs of real butter and sugar and fry it till the ends are brown .... never heard of suerkraut soup though ?

OLD TIMER,

Yes it is a Christmas Eve tradition with the Slavic people.  It signifies the bitterness of life.  The first course of the meal is Oplatky dipped in honey to signify the sweetness in life.  Then the sauerkraut soup, which is made out of Sauerkraut juice and mushrooms and onions.  Very bitter, not too bad, it really cleans you out.  Follwed by the rest of the meal of fish, pierogies, bolbalky, and finished off with kolatchy.  Which is a rolled cokie with either peanutbutter, prune, orwalnut filling.  That has been our Christmas Eve dinner for 52 years.  Now you know the rest of the story.

Afternoon Fellas (well almost)

Had a nice relaxing weekend with SusieQ. On Friday we headed West to Grantsville, MD (about 15 miles west of Cumberland). Stayed in a very nice Bed & Breakfast with some wonderful hosts, and some very hearty meals. Saturday was spent mostly driving through the mountains to Thomas, WV - we wanted to go to a pottery shop but it was a waste of time, then headed back up US219 toward PA. Stopped at a couple shops but didn't spend too much $$$. Stopped at Deep Creak Cellars (winery) and bought a case for the wine cellar. Then up into PA along US40. Was really nice to just spend time with Susan and not really have any plans. It started snowing in the afternoon and didn't stop till after mid-night. Didn't keep us from getting home yesterday. Thanks to all the fellas who wished us a 'snow-in'. Smile

Will chat more later.

 Brutus,

You are a smart man.  I never know whether I like something for the home until I check with the wife.

My wife's family makes fun of colored lights on Xmas trees-I got to her family's house for the holidays and COLORED lights are on the trees.  How do they explain it?  Colored lights were "in" this year.  Good grief.  At least my wife likes colored lights on trees and ignores her goofy family 99% of the time and their weird ideas of taste.

Good Mornin, Ya'll,

I promised myself I would give my abandoned interest in NASCAR another shot with yesterday's Daytona.  Race shortened by rain didn't bother me, it goes with the territory.  Kenseth impressed, but the jury is still out in my mind.  Is it me, or do the announcers spend too little time talking about the cars, the manufacturers' competition, and the technology?  It all still seems too vanilla, and any competitive edge is countered with an eqaulizer of some sort.  Also, I wish I could determine when "aggressive driving" like bumping is an infraction and when they just let the boys run.

Wife and I can't seem to get on the same page with what to watch on TV.  I wind up snoozing or watch something else in another room.  Can't seem to get her interested in sports, the Military Channel, or the History Chanel.  You should see how fast on the trigger finger she is skipping past that channels I like!

I'm SPF addicted.  After church and my grandchild visits, you guys make Sundays something to eagerly anticipate.  Thank you!  This weeks's spoofs were the best.

Brutus......thanks for remembereing me last night.  It was cold standing out there waiting for the Tardis, must have been behind schedule.  I forgot you had to pick up Patrick.  Drank half the beer before you guyz arrived.  Got a little crowded in Tardis with Patrick's lifestock too, especially the one that got motion sickness.  Hope your better half is feeling good enough to go shopping.  Mine would have to be in a coma to skip a shopping trip.

Kurt and Laz.....SOKOL.  The fond memories of when my kids were young in Chicago.  Got some great 25 year old pictures of the gymnastics.  Good folks, always good food at the functions, and irreplaceable family time together.

Don......I think you should do an investigative report on the neighbor's pole activities and report back to us.  Don't forget to take pictures.

Dennis.....shortly after DougM and I got calls from the Chief, men in dark suits, sunglasses, and black SUVs were seen lurking around our homes.  Think my phone is being tapped.  The Feds are getting aggressive investigating the train wreck.  Hope your back issue straightens itself out.  Mine has been with me since high school.  Probably can be attributed to an overly robust youth when we felt indestructible.  Mine always acts up for no apparent reason, never after moving furniture or heavy lifting.

njalb......loved the pic.  What a hoot!  The only thing missing from a MA perspective was the paid detail of MA law enforcement.  I think we are the only state in the Union that doesn't use flagmen.  I can picture Fife setting up a perimeter of pink flamingos around the work site.

MikeC.....old age and guile will beat youth and speed every time!  Keep showing those whippersnappers a thing or two!  I never got tired of playing tennis against the younger, singles or doubles, outside or in.....until the advice of my orthopedic surgeon and the prospect of a fourth knee surgery forced me to take up less demanding forms of exercise and entertainment.

Have a good day everyone.

Good Morning

Tardis ride was good last nite but I only get to drive when Brutus is out of town. He doesn't like the loop-de-loops. Bright sun and 29 with no plans for the day, ready for outside weather. I'll meander for now, drop back later..S.J.

Don – I believe you are right about Spanky starting the SPF.  I can’t remember when SPF started but I look forward to it.  My crazy schedule has me awake early Sunday mornings most of the time and I love to share pictures so if not already started, I start it.  I do not to leave the impression I have a monopoly on starting the thread.

Jim, Please continue with the SPF, I enjoy your pictures, its always great getting new ideas and seeing what other folks are working on.  I hope no one thought that I was suggesting anything else.  It is ONE of the highlights of the week.  And what I enjoy best is, the range of photos.  I enjoy someone just showing benchwork progress, all the way to the publication quality, photogenic detailed scene, and restored items.  As an example Frank53, Spanky, and others have shown benchwork all the way to fully developed scenes.  What a great hobby.  And, I ALWAYS learn something.  So keep it up!  We need more participants, especially all those folks that don't feel their pictures are worthy or are embarrassed. Everyone has something to share.

Good Morning from beautiful Southern Ohio

It is sunny and cool 30°F in the shade.  I am off till this evening when I start night shift.  We had the grandkids last night so it was up early to get them to school.  I’ll take a nap later this afternoon.

I laughed so hard at your Suzy Q story this week.  It was GREAT!  I did not show those pictures to the grandkids, I did not want to plant any ideas.

Dennis – Prayers for the back/ribs continuing.  I’m getting ready for sermons coming up, starting with this week where the paralytic comes through the roof to Jesus, and Ash Wednesday and the start of Lent next week, focused on the role of faith and forgiveness.

Fife – Great SPF spoof

Najlb1 – Strange, that car looks a little different.

May God bless

Jim

Good Morning All:

Hay! Who stole the pink flamingos from my front yard? Mischief  fifedog have you seen them?

Brurus - The light was on and what a first ride in the Tardis! Thumbs Up Can't wait to drive and see what happens when I "ride da clutch".

Next time though look for the beacon to be pointing East. Approach from the East to pick me up. Bedroom is on the west side and the wife won't see me sneak out. Whistling She heard about Don's neighbor.

I didn't see Chief on the Tardis. Is there a reason for that? Maybe the Ohio National Guard did get him!

Ah the Daytona 500, this year the Daytona 422, what a bore. To much hype. I fell asleep during the race until Mike C's snoring woke me up in time to see Jr's left-right-left move. For a second there I swear the # 88 turned into the # 3. Was Daddy riding with Jr.?

Instant Grits?  Chief, you might lose your Southerner Card!  Shock

Morning!  No work for the benighted Federal Worker today.  If wife is up to it, I HOPE to get to a store to pick out a ceiling fan.  I'm NOT picking it out without her there Laugh  Then, need to do the tape on that closet wall!  In-laws are threatening to visit next weekend (again).

Tardis ride was good last night, but I think she needs a tune-up?  Have to get Rich on that, it's probably the carburetor or the dematerialization circuit?

RIP Chewy - best dog I ever had.

Morning all. Quiet and cold here in Chicago. Yesterday's big race sure was weird. Instead of 'training', because the teens were out, I sat with the bride while she watched her TV (just like Mike) - "Desp. Housewives" and "House" reruns.  Mike, doesn't Scott Speed have the best name in all racing? Dug out daughter's citizenship paperwork for SSA, then realized today they're all closed. Tonight I hope to experiment more with this LED for Percy's lantern and wire up a neat 'campfire' I managed to break, then fix.

Good morning all,

It is cloudy and cold in SE Indiana again.  (This is really getting old, and where is that "global warming" that everyone worries about?)  "Housewives" was good again.  Did not get taxes done, maybe tonight.  Got another e-mail from my Norwegian soccer friend.  She will be here in the states sometime in June for a wedding of one of her friends.  I am always glad when she shows up so I can take her to meet "my" soccer girls.  She always manages to show them a few techniques.  Sometimes she even watches me play, which is always good for a chuckle or two.  Good ride on the Tardis last night.  May have to get a second section so everybody has enough room to enjoy the ride.

Speaking of rides, saw where Danica may be considered for the new F-1 US team that may start up next year.  Personally I think Scott Speed might do a better job, but we will have to see.

I had the regular fare on the dining car this morning for breakfast.  The Beacon will be lit for tonight.  I hope everyone has a good day.

Keep on training,

Mike C. from Indiana

Mornin' boys.  Overcast here in the Mid-Atlantic region.  Feelin' kinda bummed about the 500.  The red flag for rain, Jr coming unravelled, and the pre-race hype (this thing used to begin at 1230-1300).  Good to the 17 in victory lane, good guy.  Absolutely delighted by A.J. Allmendinger in the King's 44Mike C.'s open wheel crowd produced a good little racer, and the kid drove up to the front and stayed in the top 5 all day.

dbaker - Thank you sir.  I have been sitting on that indian since fall YORK, just for this occasion.   BTW, can't get the image of the cream bulging out of that boxcar out of my head.  LaughBow  The kids were all wunderin' what dad was howling about yesterday.

njalb1, you edited a post.  I just saw the I Love box car with North Carolina across the OH and flamingos loaded inside [ready to go from NC to Fife in MD].  Was going to quote and it is now gone.

Home.  Good flights.  Flew home with the NC Governor [no joke].  She had the NC National Guard run all "out of state felon national guards" across the MD line.  Now to bed.  Chat tomorrow about visit with Governor.

 Another exhausting weekend draws to a close, then work tomorrow, Holiday? What Holiday?  My union is not very supportive.  Did pick up a good deal at the show.  I needed some power strips for the layout, found some 5amp strips, 3' cord $4, 12' cord $7.  Cant buy an extension cord for that.  Sitting here relaxing watching the tape of the race from today.  Finally got the recorder set up right, the correct station, and time.  And even got the end of the race.  Now for a few comment responses;

dbaker48 -I got the email notice of your 12:55 PM post, went to the thread to see the pictures and no post. What happened? Was it your first paragraph maybe?

Patrick, I had been working on that SPF post most of the week.  New I wouldn't have time to post it this morning.  So tried writing it up and incorporating the images in a word file so I could cut and paste.  Didn't work to well!  First problem was all the setup codes were imbedded in the file, and I couldn't delete them, hence the first paragraph of gibberish.  Then, the border setting for the image was different in word, and would overdrive the forums format.  So every image had to be re-referenced.  I would do one, then the next one would disappear, and so on.  Ended up loosing one of the pictures, but simply ran out of time this am.  Anyway I tried a dry run of posting it last night, 12:55 pm, and I didn't see the image problem then.  So didn't want it to be posted to early and deleted the post until this morning.

EDIT: It is always since I can remember started by Jim Sturgeon-Phish

RT - Wasn't the SPF originated by Spanky Bird?  I know he started them for a long time, but I'm not sure who was the actual originator.

Kurt and Laz, You can put my wife and her family in that group.  They are all Slovak, we too have the pierogis, bolbalky, and oplaky w/honey.  Usually only during the holidays.  My FIL and MIL, have taught our son a lot of phrases.  (Wife is 2nd generation born here.)

Sturg - Your photos are ALWAYS super!  The refurb job is excellant!

SP Man - No I didn't eat those Susie Q's, especially after they had been saturatated with the "warming fluid", they are actually destined for Iowa.  BTW, that presentation I'm doin in Glendora is going to be Apr 8, at the Sr Center.  Also, I will be sending you an email regarding an idea I have.  (Susie Q's didn't have the nutritional value that Twinkies has.)

As far as the"fruit loop" from CA, he has to type his posts on word and then paste them on the forum.  Kay helps compose them as his "level" is not up to ours.

Chief, As far as the "fruit loop" from Ca., goes, you best start to be on your best behavior, remember where that car of yours goes NEXT.  (BTW Kay said that Roses would go a long way toward a nice photo presentation.)

It was a cold day today. 30 degrees. No snow or rain.

Chuck, I'm surprised you consider that cold!  That's barely below freezing.  As an alternative to going 70 miles to a hobby store, couldn't you just go over to Buckeyes and get what you need?  Or is most of that stuff pretty much trashed?

Dennis - I really don't want to interfere, but I would be VERY careful about offering that certain local authority a hiding place, etc..  You have way too many people depending upon you to end up being accused as a conspirator.  Just my little bit got me a subpeona as a court witness, just because I was trying to help the guy.

Doug - I could imagine you becoming a very "sought after fellow" come tomorrow morning.  I would suspect their might be some bruised egos later in the day tomorrow.  For the gauge that has the least sq feet, and yet the greatest visitor appreciation.  You guys really do yourself  well !  Congratulations !!!

  Don (how's the neighbor?)

Brutus, Something's going on!   Seen 3 different pick up trucks in three nights.  Everyday some furniture going in, and other furniture going out.  Don't know ????  They must be getting a new banister, saw a polished wood pole going in.  It was at least 12 or 14 ft long.   They Havn't had any parties recently either, usually there is at least a monthly one.  But occassionally I can see a reflection from the strobe light.  We need to hover a little longer tonight maybe we can find out more!!!  (I'm sure the other guys won't mind.)

Finally, I hope THOSE OF YOU who have the day off, enjoy it !!!  Those that don't, well do the best you can.  I may be able to take Chris up to the Kodak Theatre tomorrow, for a "backstage" tour in preparation for the Oscars next week.  Funny, they are closing down sections of Hollywood Blvd and Highland in prepartion for the event.  A WEEK AHEAD OF TIME !!    (Its 9:35 pm, can hear the nightly fireworks display from Disneyland.)

Later.

 Edit:

FIFE, Your SPF was absolutely terrific !!!  You have really set the bar high !!  The band, characters, animals, you had it ALL !!  Well Done !!
