Good evening all, California legislature is suppose to bring a toothbrush for another all nighter.  Looks like we will get some kind of tax increase sooner or later.  We have to pay the fiddler.  Those phonys in Sacramento have danced long enough.  They never decide anything.  Instead it's handed to the voters as propositions on our ballot.  What are we paying these clowns for.  It looks like a self service state anyway.

Went to doctor today for check up.  Says I am making good progress but still need to lose some weight.  I have to quit reading those post from the Chief talking about all the things he eats.  It's too suggestive.

Doctor says I am good to go on my portable oxygen generator on pulse which only delivers oxygen when you inhale, thereby saving energy when the machine is on battery power as when you are flying for example.  Maybe I can make it back to the East Coast for a visit before I croak with this new gadget.

No trains today.  Just lots of walking.  I did two miles this morning and went again with my wife this afternoon for another half hour walk.  Mountains are pretty here with a heavy layer of snow that really shows up in the clear air and sunshine today.

later, Ray

Grand daughter wanted to clean up my wood work room where I cut train timber/wood . I had sanded alot and walked away leaving pounds of sawdust . Door was wide open ... shop vac was on blower mode ... well you get the picture ! The fresh washed chlothes ... rec room and everything was coated like a new baby's ..... lord the scolding that came out of that woman's mouth ... LOL . I did have to laugh when she  came upstairs ... COATED with sawdust ... spitting and yelling " PAPPY .... HELP !  No heat in shed ... another half done project .... Whistling

Lots of news on the Pot, tough to keep up.

Don B.--I can't imagine that kind of tax increase, holy cow.  How will the retired on fixed incomes deal with it?  How will the average wage earner handle it?  Seems like a catastrophe in the making, very sad.

Had a good afternoon, worked with 17 inner city kids--trying to get them ready for a contest in two weeks.  I know I couldn't deal with the challenges on a daily basis, God Bless the teachers that do, there will be a special place in Heaven for them Thumbs Up

Great, now we can start building that 5,000 sq foot layout for Jack.  Big Smile

Phish.....Glad to hear the daughter is safe.  I was hit by a red light runner about 30 years ago.   After hitting me, he carrened off and headed for pedestrians on the sidewalk.  Fortunately he stopped spinning at the curb.  The pedestrians were in shock, but when the police arrived they did not mince words and he was slammed.

Chief.....I keep telling you that grits makes you see the doctor more often, but then again, maybe you are trying to see the lady doctor more often.  Shock

Don....U-Haul makes one way rentals.

Evening all!

Wes:  Congratulations on the new house!  Sounds like you can move right in, and start building a layout!  No beer fridge...At least we know what to get you for Christmas!

Brutus:  You were home again????  Better yet?  Prayers for you.

Took girls out to see the dinosaurs at the Museum of Natural History.  Every time I tried to explain what something was 4-yo said "I know Dad".  Sigh  So it begins.  We did addition flash cards today as well...She's good until we hit 6+, she ran out of fingers on the one hand.  Also having a tough time with the concept of 0.  Fried Chicken tonight!

Okay, I made it to school and back to pick up our son.  Now I can relax again.  I feel worn out again.  Don, Jack and Patrick - I think some alcohol would help kill all these germs, don't you?  Whistling  Better not.  I'll just drink this bottle of cough syrup.... Wink  My Nana would have dosed me with honey and vinegar, hot, by the spoonful.  I'm not sure what good it did, but it made you feel loved.

Wes - Congrats on the house, sounds like you got a great deal!

Had a nice call from a friend who retired and moved to SC and chatted on email with Sir James and RT, otherwise I just ran a load of laundry and sat around feeling icky.

Maybe I'll get one of those tankless water heaters, sounds like a good deal and our tank is getting to the end of it's life.

RIP Chewy - best dog I ever had.

Thanks fellas!  Brent, I'm pretty sure my dance resembled yours...

i found this house on Sunday evening.  It was a foreclosure that went to sheriff's sale, then the bank bought it back.  They are an out of the state bank that just kept reducing the price until common folk like me could afford it (there goes the neighborhood).  I got it far below appraisal value, which is awesome for me.  Helps the loan amount.  It's a big house, and has a finished basement already.  One big bedroom downstairs, a large living room, full bathroom, etc.  Plenty of room for trains!  Best part is that it has a stairway out of the basement into the garage, so I can sneak train purchases in...just kidding!

It's a bit outdated, but nothing I can't fix over time.

RT - I live about 30 miles from work now, and this house is about 11.  Cuts the commute time in more than half.  Same for the wife.

Thanks again,
Wes

Good Afternoon Ya'll From Sunny Taxachusetts (what happens to one's spelling and accent after too much exposure to the Chief),

Time to gas up the snowblower!  Storm expected to hit around 6 pm to assist the knucklehead MA drivers in their never ending quest to see what it is like to simulate Nascar and roll their vehicles over.  I'm positioned on the edge where 4" is forecast but as much as 15" in the Mt. Washington Valley North of here.  Local ski areas ecstatic.  Some kids off school this week and the remainder next.  Some school districts are pondering the cancellation of part or all of Easter break to catch up on required school days and avoid pushing the school year closer to July.

Jim SP......I've been to the Finger Lakes region twice, both times to Watkins Glen at the Southern tip of Seneca Lake.  Both times were reunions with old school buddies at the vintage car races.  Both times we were immersed at the track and the downtown area for the festivities, so I can't be of much help about what to see and do.  Some of my partners in crime did stay on to check out the wine country.  There are 11 Finger lakes.

Chief.....I hope you are feeling better but am sorry to hear the better half has caught your crud.  I had two doctors with different opinions on one of those skin buggers, played it safe, had it excised, negative, better safe than sorry.  One drawback was that the procedure left a dent in my temple, the source of a lot of good jokes at my expense.

Laz.....my post about our aborted train room fun was exaggerated, said we only got in a few laps.  Actually a few laps was really many as I shouted to wife we had to burn off the smoke fluid to avoid damage to the steamer's smoke unit before I could shut er down.  That was my story to her and I'm sticking to it.

DougM.....I remember the good old days of each kid's disaster of the week.  Was like participating as a referee and watching tag team wrestling, non stop action, grief, and aggravation.  Hang in there.  I'm surprised you haven't ventured into a boat.  McHenry County is where we would venture to get away from the City, as kids with the parents and later as teens when the driver's license was the tickey to a whole new world.  It was pretty sparsely populated back then and was like going on vacation.  Too bad everyone else had to discover how nice it is out your way.

Brent......I agree totally with the tankless system.  I'm on my 4th hot water tank in this home.  We are not allowed to have basement floor drains, so all homes have overhead sewer in the basement.  Leaking tanks have been a pain, not to mention the expense of having 40 gallons constantly heated and at the ready.  Wifey likes 15 minute showers.  When I get tired of being the next person in line and get 97 degree water, or we have overnight company, I crank the tank water temperature to 145, crank the boiler temperature to 200 (hot wtaer baseboard heat), or both.  With a tankless system and unlimited hot water, you can get that jacuzzi Susan has secretly been pining for.

Brutus......take your wife's advice with the crud.  Drink more beer.  You seem to have the same hot water issues the rest of us have.  Brent's got the right solution, tankless.  I think Lee said his tank was acting up yesterday.

Later, gang.

Being a country boy, I love country jokes.

Here is one from the new RFD-TV magazine.

Dolly Parton is talking about how the 11 Parton children took baths. In the summer time they bathed in the river, but in the winter time they had to wash up in the house. Using  a wash pan, the girls would wash up as far as possible, and then down as far as possible. Then when there brothers left the room they would wash possible. Laugh Laugh

I just had to tell someone besides my wife. I do apologize. Blush

Good Morning !   This state is really going down the tubes.

- Budget calls for a $14 billiion tax increase,  Only 1 vote needed to pass, don't know how much longer the good guys can hold out.  Then, govenator signed a contract this past weekend, protecting 40% of all state employees from layoff, EVER.  Also, union agreed to give up 2 holidays, Lincoln B-day, & Washington B-day, in exchange for 2 personal days w/pay, whenever desired.  And, forced 2 day month furlough, cut to 1 day, which can be made up with OT. Confused   Estimated tax increase between $1400 to $3500 per year for avg family!!  Will have to pay that w/$13 weekly stimulus from fed.  UGH !!!

DON,

 Good Morning !

Jim - If there is anything I can do locally, please let me know!  Prayers for your family, those are always the REAL issues.

Brutus - Get well soon, just get rest and let it run itself out, before you get too active.

Mike C - Not a problem rerouting the everything resulting from the NS rails issues, they have a common work around in place here for that.

Going to take the day off today, not a lot going on at the office, stay here and do some layout work to not have to think about the economy.  This state is really going down the tubes.

Morning from a dreary and blurry St. Louis.  I took a long hot shower, ran out the hot water, and feel better but weak.  I kept my daughter home since I was home anyway and that will give her another day to recover from the krud.  Wife talked me out of trying beer, but luckily RT dropped off a big pot of soup and some OJ too Thumbs Up

JimSP - prayers for your daughters and thankful there was a witness!

Wes - continued prayers on the house!

88 - hope things come together on your project!  Hey - how did your bench turn out?  Got any pics?  Any more word on Suzie's job she got, did she already switch?

Chief - prayers for a complete recovery!

Doug, did the plumber find anything down the loo that shouldn't have been?  Often, you will find a comb fell in or maybe a smallish toy?  OTOH, like I said, not all toilets are created equally.  If this is a persistent problem, let me know.  We found a real winner last time thanks to an online comparison report I found.

Talked to my friends John and Leah yesterday and their daughter, Cecilia, just wanted to go to the train museum for her birthday (3 years old yesterday), so I guess that Thomas toy I bought her did the trick WhistlingWink

Thanks for not buzzing the neighborhood last night guys.  I might be up for a ride tonight, we shall see.  I'm definitely going to work tomorrow, don't need to stay home any more and I can sit at my desk and feel just a crappy as I do here in the living room.

PS - Fifedog, my friend Jeff has a pontoon boat and it's great for fishing, swimming, and about anything else, but no sails.  It's a lot of work every few years though.  Remember what Churchil said - a boat is a hole in the water into which one pours money.  Something like that.  OTOH - I will be super jealous of you when you  post all the pictures of your sailing trips one day!

RIP Chewy - best dog I ever had.

Good Morning everyone!  Jim, will pray for daughter....sorry to hear of the accident.  Also, prayers for other daughter...pray that things work out the way God wants them.
Brent, on the History Channel, they have a program called "Voyages"  I DVR this as it often has train programs, but today's was on BMW.  Thought you may be interested...I am sure they will show it again soon.

Many more to get to later, but I gotta run.  God Bless,

 Good Morning All:

This is no joke. Read in the paper where a train station in England put up a sign that said "No Kissing". They want to speed up unloading at the curb. The name of the train company - Virgin Rail.

Dug - You are suppose to play with your rubber duck in the tub, not the toilet.

Chief and Laz57 - There are easier ways to loose weight!

Brutus - My special Lightening cuts plegm (and a few other things to). Sending you a quart by Underground Express. You may have to park the Tardis for a few days.

Kurt - Remove the lue? I for see a short ride tonight.

Brent go with the Rinnai instant water heater you won't regret it there great especially those run by propane. ( yes I use to work with a company that sold them and the demo we got were out of this world) They hooked one up to a water supply and we ran it over an hour still coming out piping hot.

Mornin' Fellas

Getting harder and harder to keep up with the Pot... Sad

Fife - goin' sailing? I thought you were more of a Mt Man? Confused

Wes - Good luck on the house! I've been working in the trainroom trying to get things to the point where I can build the shelves in the storage room to clear out the work room to start preping it for the conversion to storage area/bar/wine tasting room. Have the plans about finished and it is looking like I can get this project done for less than $3,000 (not including the bar, counter top) I don't think I can make this a wet bar because there is no where to run the drain for a sink... maybe have to get an ejector if I really want a bar sink... Also have to decide if I want to move the water tank or remove the water tank and go with an instant water heater. I'm really leaning toward the water heater because the water tank is in an area without a drain and I've had too many tanks start leaking... If I go the full blown route I'm looking at $5,000 = $6,000, which really isn't all that bad. I've still got the lights and they are still yours if you want them.

Jim/SP.....sorry I missed your post by minutes before I hit the sack last night.

First and foremost, I think you know you have the thoughts and prayers from all of us for your youngest as she recovers from her injuries and recuperates back near the ranch.  It may be of little consolation to her at this point to say Someone up there must have been looking out after her since things could have turned out much worse.  It was heartless of the other party to be angrily concerned with blame, not the condition of others.  And for your eldest daughter, she likewise will be in my thoughts and prayers as she ponders her decision.

I commented to Dennis that when our kids hurt, we as parents hurt just as deeply.  So I will keep you and your wife in my thoughts and prayers as well.  Stay strong, brother.

Morning all. Raining. On its way east. Ole Timer, can't wait to see photos of those new additions. Prayers for both daughters, Jim and for things to work on with Wes' hopefull-soon-to-be-new house. Hope you got a contract with your renter. Brutus, hope you are feeling better - I couldn't figure out how to get the auger to work correctly. It has a crank at the end I was supposed to turn, and it's not that long, but it wouldn't 'feed' past the bowl. Bride (and I) still recovering from latest middle-boy episode earlier this week. He's fine though. Hopefully run trains tonight - Percy has yet to deliver Chessie car with it's new FRED add-on.
