Morning all from wet Southern Ohio

Just got home and waiting for the bank to open to make a call then to bedZzz

Fife - you nailed it!  The guy in the other car got out cussing and saying the car my daughter was in ran the red, luckily the car behind them saw the whole thing and made statements to the police verifying the other guy ran the red.  She is to be home in Cincy Saturday.

Good night (good morning?) and may God bless,

Jim

Good morning all,

It is rainy and warmer in SE Indiana with temps in the 40s.  Jim, prayers for your daughters and for all everybody else who needs them as well.  Seems to be a lot of requests here lately in that particular area.  I know we all need them from time and time and probably all should use them most of the time.  Did preliminary work on taxes and should get enough of  a refund to pay for the dryer and washer we got last month.  Played indoor soccer with the Brazilian again last night.  That was fun.  I am more tired after one of those sessions than the regular exercise, but for some reason I do not notice it as much.  My foot skills are definitely improving.  I watched a "Nova" program on feathered dinosaurs last night on PBS.  It was pretty good.  I had the regular fare on the dining car for breakfast this morning.  It is headed to "Points East".  While there may be further shipments to Georgia, there was a Pileup on the way to North Carolina (must have been another NS derailment!).  Shipments will be re-routed west to St. Louis and the Chicago area and then to Patrick's place in Virginia and onto Maryland and Pennsylvania.  May have to detour thru Ioway and Shake and Bake's area before heading to Florida and Michigan.  That NC blockage is really messing up the entire delivery system.  Beacon is lit.  Tardis was much better last night.  I hope everyone has a good day.

Keep on training,

Mike C. from Indiana

Mornin' boys.  Gonna be a wet one today in the Mid-Atlantic region, so better break out the macs.

Phish - As a parent, I can understand the angst you must be feeling having the daughter hurt and being so far away.  That's about right on the list of injuries for a T-bone.  ...and the person who ran the light will lie out their tookus claiming they had the yellow, or even a green.

Chief - Hope everything turns out ok with the spots.  Oh, and I checked some of my railfan sites on Carolina Coastal, and didn't see anything yellow.  You may have seen a HELM leasing unit.

jonadel - You're on. Thumbs Up

RockIsland/Lawson Farms - I plan on many a day out on the Chesapeake, before I set sail on the Atlantic.  Seen too many movies.

Philaknight - I know you check in from time to time, read that you folks lost another brother this past week.  That makes 8 in less than 3 years...hang in there.

Hi GYZ,

27 ere this morning, then slop is gonna come this afternoon.  No trains last nite maybe tonite?

CHIEF, hope those spots turn out negative?  I have melanoma on back last June.  They cut out a patch 2 inches wide by 4 inches long and a half inch deep from me.  Sorta like a lb. o flesh.

JACK, I heard ya with the women.  Seems they always want our attention.  Can't even run trains? SHEEES!

Stay frosty,

jonadel - Holy cow, you're story makes me wisfull just reading it.  Make you a deal...I buy one, you come sail mine on the Chesapeake.

Now there's a deal I like the sounds of, let me check the calendar!  Our friends did a customized tour of the Carribean years ago with another couple on a sail boat (both couples very wealthy), had their own chef, etc.  Sounded unbelievable and of course the scenery..........

We were in Marthas Vinyard for a day about 20 years ago, still have vivid memories of that area.  I'm not sure how comfortable I would be with salt water sailing, I would want to take lots of classes from the coast guard first.  Actually, I would even want to do that on Lake Superior.

Hello all

In the middle of the shift and we have caught up on the work.  It will get busy again in a few hours.  If you all would keep my two daughters in your prayers.  Youngest is in L.A. for an interview and was riding with a friend and was T boned by someone running a red light.  She has a broken nose, 4 broken ribs and her hip is mis-aligned on top of bruises from the seatbelt.  Oldest daughter coming to some decisions about her marriage.

Chief – I pray the spots being removed are not too serious and do not cause any complications.

DougM – I can sympathize.  Toys are a pain to get out.  Also stressed to the females not to flush sanitary items despite what it may say on the box.

Jack – The bride and I are planning our summer vacation and looking at the Finger Lake area.  Do you recommend it?

Patrick – I think Fife has tracking devices on his flamingos

SJ – I like the multi color too.  There is a house here that for several years decorated all in blue lights, it was “different” let’s say.

Buckeye – Fife will be raising fighting cocks when he moves, just look for the 55 gallon drums laid on their side spaced about five feet apart.

Jim F – Prayers to kick the crud.

Going to go check on things.

May God bless

Jim

I can't keep up with all of the goings on here on the Pot!  A couple we know casually came over to help us repost the dog's cropped ears.  Since the wives were highly organized and had everything under control, I asked the husband if he'd like to see my trains.  "I'm sure he doesn't, honey" my wife interjected.  Wrongo.  Didn't get in more than a couple of loops before the wet blankets stepped in and said our assistance was needed.  Even our assurances that they were doing a good job without us didn't help.  Why is it when you try to take charge of something, the other half complains you don't show enough faith in their skills and abilities, always want to do things your way.  Then when you do turn them loose, they don't like it. Banged Head  The good news is that the guy is thinking of resurrecting his stuff from decades of storage.  He's got me by a couple of years but can't remember what he's got.  Must be some postwar stuff.

Jon and Fife.....I consider anyone with a boat among my closest of friends. Smile,Wink, & Grin  I'll bring the beer!  My wife and I have been friends for 21 years with a couple that has two boats.  One is a 24'' Grady White, but I can't remember the make of the 28 footer. They have the larger moored in Manchester harbor North of us and the Grady trailered in their back yard with a public boat launch 100 yards down the road. They built an attached high ceiling 4 bay garage plus a work room with lawn and garden storage.  So the boats spend the winter indoors.  The ocean is unforgiving, and the weather up this way has a way of severely limiting extensive comfortable use.  Even if the wave heights cooperate, it's pretty cold out on the water in late May and early June.  Same after mid September. The salt water and air really jack up the required maintenance.  A lake is the way to go, even here.

Lee.....some may consider a nine day cold pretty long from a time perspective.  Mine always drag on like that, but I usually don't get more than 1 good one a year.  Prayers you continue to improve.  "Cut grass....weeds.....service riding lawn mower."  My lawn is still snow covered, has been since Christmas.  More snow on the way tomorrow night.

Brutus.....sorry to hear you too have now succumbed.  Prayers for a speedy recovery for you and the little one.

DougM.....the dreaded plumber Shock Sad  Bad news!  You've got a whole mess of fresh water lakes out by you, and the Fox River can't be far either.  You need a boat!

Wes.....continued prayers you get the house you want.  Just make sure there are adequate accomodations for the rest of us. Big Smile  How's the knee coming along?

Dennis....reinforcements arrive next week.  I wonder what the wife has planned for all of your free time.

Good night, all

Jack

Well, finally finishing up here (better not say that too loud as I was finishing up around 6pm when this last one hit the door).  This morning, I watched a real neat Trains and Locomotives episode on the NW's articulateds.  Was a great program with plenty of long coal drags and plenty of old time scenery.  I'm a bit tired, so I'll sign off and head to the hacienda for some ZZZZs.

We received a counter-offer on the house we are pursuing already.  We met most of the demands, and adjusted the offer price.  Hopefully we know what's going on by tomorrow at 5pm.  I'll take all the prayers we can get...

Thanks guys,

Home again.  Went to Dr.  Got chunk cut out of back of right leg.  My pretty Dr. said she might have to cut more out later.  Waiting for lab report in a few days.  Went to Home Depot [in Raleigh, don't like HD but one in Raleigh is better than the rest] and got a pruner attachment for my Ryobi weedeater.  Has the chain saw on and extension pole.  Then went ot Walmart and got synthetic oil and filter.  Came home and serviced Pam's 4 Runner.  Then off to Town Board meeting.  Came home and ate a bag of popcorn.  Now watching Flower Drum Song on TCM.  Was chilly tonight but calling for rain tomorrow.  Need to get upstairs and run new NS dummy that RT put me on.  Later

danrunner

Lionroar,

Rt 40 through Laurel Highlands is awesome.  Take the wife to Nemacolin resort for lunch or the Summit Inn sometime.  Frank LLoyd Wright's Falling Water home is right there, too.

danrunner, we've been to (actually just walked around) Nemacolin. We hope to stay there some time in the future. We've been to Falling Water also, but haven't been to the other Wright house that is nearby.

Doug - how long is your auger?  We had one that was about 5 feet long and half the time it wouldn't work until you had tried it a couple days in a row.  We got a newer one that was another few inches and that did it - it would still take some work, but the toilet would clear every time.  FYI - somewhere I have a review spreadsheet of toilets showing the best ones based on flushing capacity (ahem).  Let me know if you want it in an email.

Charlie Laugh  Okay, you drive tonight.  I'm wiped out and will leave the keys in the usual place.  See if RT will bring me some of his special soup, though, okay?  Hmmmm - does beer cut plegm?

Still haven't heard from the plumber.  Angry Hope you're feeling better Brutus. Jack, I augered and everything - after two hours, admitted defeat.  Ole Timer, I have considered a ice-breaker car - then put it on the back-burner. Now I'll be thinking about it again. By the way, Jack, I have a Lou Malnati's about 3 minutes away from the house - very dangerous. We had our wedding rehearsal dinner at the orignal Lou Malnati's - my mother-in-law was appalled. I was happy... nothing finer to begin a marriage than with beer and pizza.    I would love to take sailing lessons - when the kids are older - on our Crystal Lake. Prepping for class tonight.

Howdy guys (cough cough).  Well, I'm feeling sick, but would have gone to work; but, my daughter is sick so we're watching The Great St. Trinians Train Robbery - pretty fun little movie!  Not much train in it though.  Email chatted with Sir James this morning.  Had a lot of fun last night and I take back everything I ever said about Sir James' driving, it must have been the doohickey that Rich fixed Laugh

Good luck on the house, Wes!  Prayers for us all, esp the star-scoundrel.

Good Afternoon,

Before I knew it it was after 12:30pm today. Got busy trying to see why the hot water heater quit working yesterday and got around to doing quite a few other things, cut the grass(mainly weeds) this morning. Had to put battery charger on riding mower's batttery as it wouldn't crank-up this morning, used push mower for about 20 minutes. Fired up the generator to make sure it will start when we need it, for times without electricity. Almost time for a new riding mower, battery going low and tire going flat, $50.00 or better to fix each item.

Went to Circuit City, the store that is going out of business and their prices are still tooo high for me!! Bought a new DVD recorder at Best Buy as the price was $61.00 less than Circuit City.

Getting over the cold I got last week, had it for over nine days now.

Supposed to be chilly again on friday or saturday, and anjdevil2 will be colder than me because he lives closer to the Georgia state line.

Fife--

Just back from the dentist (4 times a year, I hate it but I get to keep my teeth healthy), treated myself to Cracker Barrel for a wonderful breakfast----I was by far the youngest one in there at 9:00 AM, Geeze Louise.  Stopped and got groceries for the week plus new scrips for the boss.  We are set.

Sail boat history.  Yes, we are landlocked but there are three big lakes in northern Iowa that are drop dead gorgeous plus now we have 3 huge reservoirs built for flood control by the Army Corps of engineers.  My Dad retired in 1970 and bought a beautiful property on Okoboji, one of three naturally blue lakes in the world, spring fed. Seven miles long and the narrowest part is 3/4 mile wide, lots of large bays and the center part of the lake is huge and deep.  Great for sailing, fishing, water skiing and SCUBA diving, I did all three and LOVED every minute.  In those days you could afford a house on the lake, their $31,000.00 home in '70 would be worth at least $900,000.00 today as it's on the lake.  Now when a home is sold it's typically bulldozed and MacMansions are built.  After he passed Mom sold it and lived comfortably in town.

In the spring of '70 I bought my first 14' Hobie Cat and raced it at Clear Lake, IA and in August I would trail it to Okoboji and then store it there after the season was over.  I was single, the Hobie 14 was perfect, married in '72 and in '73 we bought a Hobie 16 and raced all over the midwest with it.  That was a FAST boat, flying a hull with my wife suspended over the hull in a trapeeze harness passing power boats was always a hoot.  We raced nearly every weekend.  Oldest son born in '75 and we moved to central Iowa in '76, we had the boat down here and at Okoboji but like all good things, when you have children your life changes.  Throw in another son in '79, one income/one wife/two kids=no money. Sold the boat, needed the money.  It's often been said that the two happiest days of owning a boat are the day you buy it and the day you sell it, I don't believe it.  We've missed that boat big time.  We went on test drive on a 28' mono hull a few years ago on a very windy day, the salesman wasn't that good so I piloted the boat, it was white capping and I heeled that boat way over---think I scared him,  It's nearly impossible to flip a cruiser, they always point to wind when they reach a certain point.

My wife hates my motorcycle but she loves it when our youngest son takes a week every year and tours with me out west.  She's also very proud that I ride with the Patriot Guard on the bike.  I'll bet I could go to a marina tomorrow and make an offer on an expensive sailboat and she would approve, that's how much she loved it.  I would want at least a 32' that I could tow, small sleeping cabin and a portable head.  Ideally, if you could rent a slip and keep it there, that would be the way to go.

Two years ago Ryan and I were on the bikes in northern WI and saw the slips where folks keep their fairly large sail boats, they sail out to the Apostle Islands for the day on Lake Superior.  To me, that would be a perfect weekend.

Oh the memories, I would love to rewind to '70-'75 and relive those summers.  I guess I missed my midlife crisis, too busy.

 Hello All:

That snow reported in Roseyville probably was soot from the town incinerator where they burned the "I Love OHIO" car.

Jack - Thanks on the tip about fife. I'll wait until he leaves for the York show and sneak in and retrieve my flamingos.

Brutus - Ad my Congrats on becoming an uncle. You do know that you uncles have the same rights as us grandparents when it comes to spoiling children.

fife - When we had the summer cottage we had a small sailing catamaran (sp?). Not quite what it sound like you are after, but I loved it. Had a speed boat to, but nothing was greater than sailing around the lake, no sounds except the slapping of the water on the sides, birds, wind whistling in the trees, dragonflies flitting around you. None of that happens in a speed boat.

Doing away with the stars has my vote.

Chief - I saw a news item from Fair View NC. Is it true that Fair View is on the side of a mountain, at the top of the mountain is a town called Great View, and at the bottom of the mountain is a town called Cain't See Nuttin ?

See all on the Tardis. Maybe if Chief wore a Northern Flamingo costume and stood on the VA-MD border the Tardis would pick him up. Or maybe it would be the MD Police that would do the picking up!

All the talk about Hot Dogs and Pizza - I have to go fix one or the other for lunch.

RockIsland/kpolak - I developed this "thing" last summer, and I can't seem to shake it.  Had such a great time on Lake Champlain.  I am signing up for sailing classes (trying to bring the boy along too) this spring, and Jack, it certainly is a buyer's market.  Fifey's-wifey (whom absolutely loves the water and traveling) actually is "on board" with the idea.  Gonna have to give up some to get some in my future plans, so I absolutely need to weigh everything.

Mornin Boyz & Girlz.

A tad frosty this morning but it looks as if the weather is going to be really nice the rest of the week. Got some rain & wind as well as a good bit of snow in the local mountains, the worst of the storm went north of us up Don's way.

Fife, I took the better half sailing once, when we lived in Grand Lake, Colorado. It was fun til a surprise storm blew in over the mountains, to this day she swears I was trying to do her in. Shock
