Evening all,

Hope you all had a nice Fathers Day.  I did.  Bride smoked ribs and grilled corn and daughter made oreo cookies for dessert.  Grandkids were up and we wore each other out.  I got the new American Flyer Standard Catalogue book by David Doyle, and some linchen in fall colors.  I am going to transition from "summer" to "fall" on the layout.

The book is great.  Great pictures and information all American Flyer.  It will take several days to skim through it.

I put together the two 586 Wayside Stations I repainted.  Just need to re-decal then replace the ones on the layout.

All take care, may God bless

Jim

WHAT A WEEKEND of TRAINS and CTT FRIENDS!!

The conference I attended at Hershey had arranged a tour of the Rockville Bridge by Dan Cupper, NS railroad conductor, historian and author of the book, "Rockville Bridge Rails Across the Susquehanna".

We also were able to see some of the operations in and out of the Enola Yards.  Notice the switch-man.

Eastbound Train entering West End of Enola Yard.  (BUT Buckeye, Enola Yards goes North and South!!!)

Is that fifedog in the cab?

Chief,  Here is a photo you can use for your Mayor's Christmas Card this year.

When Buckeye arrives, he does not bring wall paper paste, aka grits.  By now, Laz and his brother have eaten every Buckeye in the box while hitting the little white ball.   John and Jean have saved them for the grandchildren.  (Anybody live near SF and would like some Buckeyes?)

Thank you John and Jean for your hospitality and we really enjoyed seeing your layout and the world famous Greenhouse.   (BTW, Don Baker, this is one of those miracle layouts that uses TMCC and DCS. Seemed to work just fine, too.)

Hershey, PA is a great place.  You can smell the chocolate in the air!   The only disappointment was the car museum.  If you don't have a Duesenberg..................

Unbelievable flooding in Iowa, Indiana and Wisconsin.  I have worked the big NE Indiana floods, 30 years ago and it is so devastating.  Prayers for all those affected.

Hi guys,

Buckeye - they sell those buckeye candies at our Cracker Barrel, are they good?  They look like peanut butter and chocolate?  Looks like you guys had a great time!  John, love that pic of the layout, it's bigger than I thought?

Jim, The portion in the foreground is 10' X 6'8" (made of 4 - 30" doors) the shelf layout link along the wall is 12" wide and 12" long, on the other side of the wall is the other section (seen on the TV screen) which is 13' long and tapers from 4' to 5' wide.  Mainline is 054, some 045, 042, 036 and 031 on other loops.

Home from meetings.  I will admit, Buckeyes [the chocolate ones not the people] are better than GRITS.  Tired.  Ate too much.  Big lunch and then big steak for dinner.  Mayor's job is too hard.  Good night all.

Evening All

Good pictures but how did you erase the third rail? I did not do a lot today trying to finish CTT,skipped some stuff and still haven't reached the end yet. Hats off to Bob Keller for his honest review of the Torpedo. Thats where I stopped for the day. We had a funny kind of weather day, cooler, windy then cloudy, sunny, you get the Idea. No trains today but I looked at them, does that count? Banilla is ready, and there are snacks so have Brutus pick you up and come on over.....S.J.

IRS check came today, now what to do,what to do.so many decisions.

No word from Kurt, Doug is out of state, so gonna fly by and see who is up for some buckeyes from CB?  Then go to Jim's and see if we can get some Banilla.  Peanut butter is good with banilla, how about buckeyes?  I'll bet it would be great in a concrete!  Up too late on emails with Sir James and online spending some money.  TTFN

EDIT: Sorry John, your layout is very nice!  I remember you told me about your turnouts one time.  I it's neat to see your hard work installing that cattenary (sp?) that you did a couple years ago I think?  I'd love to see more pictures!  I think you did a great job!

Good Morning Y'all!

Brutus, the CB Buckeyes are good, but a bit on the dry side, so have plenty of milk when attempting to eat!

Fife, thinking about you this morning as we had a gunshot wound to a police officer.  He is doing well, but it is a stark reminder of some of the things you guys face in the line of duty... as the old Hill Street Blues Sergeant would say "Let's Be Careful Out There!".

Well, got a full day of it here.  Hope everyone has a blessed day.

Good Morning from Blueberryhill....

It is a cool and sunny 56 degrees. Going up to 72 today with sunshine.

Today is a busy day. Had to call the A/C guys back out. Outside unit is not turning on when it should. This is getting expensive. Works great when it's on. Glad it got cooler.

No time for trains today. I need to clean up the train room.

Dining car has arrived and it's time for breakfast. Then, it's off to all points west.

Y'all have a great Tuesday.

I picked up a "new" used car yesterday.  2005 Honda civic with the 4 cyl.  Supposed to still get over 30MPG.  That's pretty good in my book.  Got a great deal on it since everyone seems to want the 6 cyl.  Silver and loaded.  The XM radio even works in it.  There must have been some left over subscription from the last guy.  The car seat is in it, and Jack seems to approve on the ride quality.

I'm off to Key West for a little family vacation.  It's the first flight with Jack, and he turns 2 while we are down there.  We purchased him a seat both ways.  We will see how he takes to flying.

Later guys,
Wes

We are drying out! No rain since Saturday eve. and the temps have dropped along with the humidity plus the forecast is excellent, NO RAIN. Cedar Rapids and Iowa City have taken a horrible pounding, one of the worst in their history. South east Iowa is catching the brunt of this flood now and soon it will enter the Mississippi river, not great news for our friends down south.

Last week the NCAA Track & Field championships were held in Des Moines at Drake Stadium (it can't flood there) and of course there were teams from all over the US there. They showed the North Carolina Tarheel team helping sand bag a poor area of DM that was going to be flooded, made me feel good. It's ironic, in the toughest of times folks really do pull together.

Getting ready to head to Colorado for a week of motorcycling with youngest son. He is coming down from St. Paul and we head out early Sat. We will trailer the bikes to Denver and take off Sunday AM for SW CO, I hope to get a few more action shots of the Durango Silverton. We've been planning this trip since Christmas, hoping for NO snow or rain :)

Mornin' Fellas.

Not much going on. Today is my 2 year anniversary and I need to stop and buy a card and pickup Susie-Q's edible arrangement.

Speaking of edible arrangements... I was doing some web surfing on her laptop last weekend and saw that she had been looking for sites... one of the sites she had typed into the address bar... www.editablearrangements.com (not a site so don't try to click it). I got a kick out of that! 0 should have been http://www.ediblearrangements.com/ (is a site, go ahead and click. A bit pricey but they are worth every penny and IMHO are nicer than flowers - for some occasions - and kids love them too!)

I did get down to the train room last night and was messing around with the ROSS 4-way switch I got from GregM on the other forum... it isn't going to work... so now it is back to square one and trying to find another switch to use... 0

Wes - I thought the Civic only came in 4cyl? Are you thinking the Accord?

Good morning all,

IIABSDISEI with temps in the 70s.  I practiced two hours with the soccer kids last night.  That felt good.  Another practice is tonight and I have games on Wednesday and Thursday.  Woo-hoo!  Finished a major project at work yesterday.  I had the regular fare on the dining car this morning.  I hope everyone has a good day.

Keep on training,

GOOD MORNING

Well today old James is a year older, but not until 9:35PM. So I guess until then I can still do the forum without assistance.

Overcast and cool this morning, but thats ok they all can't be perfect. I have not been to the dinning car yet as I know who the cook is(me) and he's not very good at it. So for now I'll meander and drop back in a while. Enjoy your day......S.J.

Mornin' boys.  Sunny & 66 here in the Mid-Atlantic region.  Started painting the fifehouse yesterday.  Only the littlest princess seemed interested.  Had to tell her no, but I'm sure by day 3 she will be lookin' pretty good witha brush in her hand...

dwiemer - gunplay is always an expected hazard, that's why I tell the rookies "Watch out for wet leaves."

Buckeye - Thanks for sharing the pics (certainly wish I was in the cab of that DASH-9!).  Had schedules allowed, Brent & I would have crossed the MASON-DIXON to meet up with YUZ GUYS.  Next time...?  HERSHEY, however, is one of those companies that is taking advantage of NAFTA, so that chocolate smell will probably have to be "piped" in, in the future.

Fifey's-wifey didn't want any "wardrobe malfunctions" (like a certain OHIZOAN) for our trip to VERMONT, so yesterday had to go clothes shopping for me.  Came home with a bag of PERRY ELLIS, CALVIN KLEIN, TOMMY BAHAMA, IZOD, NAUTICA and NIKE.  I'm being asked to leave my comfortable NASCAR t-shirts back home.

Morning all.  Good luck to those in Iowa.  Feel for them all.  Got a shower last night around 2 AM.  Could not sleep good.  Full moon and too much to eat. Shock [:O]  Off to Town Hall in a few and then work pond area [weedeat and Roundup] as cooler.  Suppose to have average temps for a few [mid 80's].  Got a couple of tomatoes to pick.  Tell all my officers and Frankie, when I see or chat with them, "Be careful." Chat later.

BTW: notice all the NS photos Buckeye took.

FIFE! I'm appauled that you didn't let Lexi paint the house with you (unless you were up on a ladder, then I can understand).

As for the 'gathering', I wanted to attend but with all the preparations for this week I just couldn't pull it off, and with all the dropping off and picking up of vehicles I would most likely have forgotten any way... hope we can get together after October York? Maybe a 'traveling gathering' starting at Fife's and making our way to my place?

Clothes... Guess the Misses thinks you aren't representing the household very well? I would have thought you would have been decked out in your finest Blue and Gold, or Black and White Livery?

Good morning ya'll from (temporarily) sunny coastal NE Taxachussetts.

68 now with a projected high of 72, humidity 71%.  Rain last 2 days and forecast for the next 3......lawn to return to jungle status after yesterday's landscaper's heroic efforts in the rain?  I'm thinking of calling the guys back to power rake rear lawn and pick up the thatch, before next shot of fertilizer, to keep things green, growing, and filling in the bare spots.  The dogs do a number on the turf.  What they don't attack with their pee and poo they get with their worn "chosen paths" and digging.  If I'm lucky, their digging will uncover a huge crude reserve.  Then I can sell out to Exxon, move to Roseyville, and begin new career as Chief's #1 mayoral aid after some remedial language education and a wardrobe change.  Notice I didn't say become Chief's #1 "Go-fer."  He shoots those.  "Go fer grits, Yank, and bury those gopher carcasses!"

Loved the pics from the mini-reunion, Buckeye and John.  It really is true that the camera adds 100 pounds.  I knew that couldn't be Fife in the train cab in that one pic....no crashes.  Fife, in your dreams.  Your wife likes to leer at you in t-shirts, not at your pecs as you suggest but at the protuberance......not those, but your beer-fed belly button.

SirJames....got a call last week from Daughter, just making sure we didn't want the granddaughter for the Summer versus daycare.  Response:  "She needs the socialization, dear.  Worth the cost at twice the price, and she'll be far better prepared for Kindergarten in September."  Whistling [:-^]

Kurt....I've got some really low mileage anniversary 2023 UP AlCos, but no matching cars.  On the "to acquire " list.  I always thought the silver 2033 UP ALCos with the silver 24XX cars looked really sharp.  I've got a bunch of those passenger cars.

Laz.....I got to wondering how your dog keeps up on some of your runs, sporting a backpack filled with a 12-pack of frosties on dry ice.  Must be a big, powerful dog.

Brutus....with the Mississippi high points moving Southward, your not in jeopary in St. Louis, are you?

Jon.....glad you and yours survived the Iowa flooding.  Re your road trip with the bikes to Colorado, my nephew (part time police officer) and his friends trailer their bikes from Chicago to Sturgis each year and spend a week riding everywhere.  Rough crowd in spots, but he "packs" just in case.

Brent.....sincerest congratulations on the occasion/miracle of your second wedding anniversary.  It's obvious you got SusieQ's car fixed, or we would be reading the obituaries and mourning your untimely passing.  Did you identify your pallbearers in your will?  By the way, I am certain you are mistaken and the US DID get some disaster relief funds from abroad.  Those countries are just too modest and wish to remain anonymous.

Chief.....you haven't mentioned anything about the new canine addition.  On visits, hope your expert dog training is doing it's magic and you have enlisted the pup in your army and war against the groundhogs.  By the way, I asked for collard greens at the BBQ restaurant on Fathers' Day and nearly got ejected from the place.

MikeC.....is it me, or do your soccer comments indicate your soccer escapades have hammered you into shape?  Early on, you shared aches, pains, and sad recollections of what used to be.  Remember, even Pele got old and slow.

Don......any news on Chris' recovery process?  No news means good news, hopefully.  After you bought him the gas card for him and the EL CAMINO Whistling [:-^], did you get it detailed for him?  You certainly couldn't expect him to be seen cruising in anything less that a pristine ride.

Have a good one.

Hmmmmm..........just noticed, 500 posts.  How time flies.  Chief, what are the rules for permitted number of Pot posts for Yanks?

Edited......sorry, Fife.  Missed Brent's post on Sir James' B-day, and I must have missed the announcement that it was coming up.  Happy B-Day [bday]  Sir James, belatedly sending you some of those little blue "magic" pills Fedex in honor of the occasion.  Whistling [:-^]

BTW Fife, have you rented the roof rack, trailer hitch, and trailer for your upcoming trip to Vermont????  All of this discussion about your wife-mandated new threads means squat if you can't get them in the car after wife has taken up every available square centimeter of storage space with her stuff.  I've been married longer than you and know how those things work.  Better check into load leveler shocks for the car while you're at it.

Good Morning,  Been awhile since I posted, (only 2 days, but things move fast here.)  So a warning, this could be long.

Jack, Regarding the El Camino, I don't have a problem driving it!!!  Its better than the clunky old van I've been using.  Anyway, he doesn't need a chick magnet, and it helps me restore my youthful attitude, I might have to do something about the decals across the top of the windshield though.

Looks like the SPECIAL meeting of the PA Chapter of OTTS, was quite successful.  I noticed there wasn't much talk about derailments.  I would agree Buckeyes shirt of Palm Trees is very colorful, for a Midwestener,  also noticed that Laz and John had dressed for the occassion, fresh T-Shirts.  Looks like the Tardis is going to have to have a booster added once all those Buckeyes are devoured.  Oh yeah, Buckeye.... There is only ONE layout that I know of that has TMCC and DCS installed that has operational issues,  and that one is located south of the M-D Line.  Sometimes I've heard it referred to as the "plywood prairie".  To quote a famous southern gentleman, "We may not be as smart as some city slickers ........".
