There is a whole family.  Groundhogs dropping everywhere when I got home at noon.  Still more I think made it to the hole.  Found new exit hole out in bean field.  .17 blows the other side out of them!!!  Shot one running and hit him in the back.  blew his tummy and intestings out.  Unbelievable.

Dennis, thank you very much.  That was extra nice.

On the run.  Been to Miss Edna's, birthday party and now out the door to graduation party.  Killed groundhogs in between.  Later

HAPPY FATHERS DAY Fifer buddy!

Warm here - but a strange cool breeze. A cool front is skimming us right now. 90's.

Construction continues - I need to take some pictures but I ran out of patience to post pictures here some time back. Not sure I want to remember this anyway. The down side is the new work makes all the existing cabinets and trim, etc., look really bad - OW OW OW - voice in head screaming - oh the pain - watch out Roy! - don't let the wife notice this - no trains for a very long time - contractors live here for next year - aaaahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh....snap - back to reality

Wha happened? I feel like I dozed off for a moment? Well anyway - had a nice dinner out with old friends last night at a pricey Mexican food restaurant - lots o' people in suits, business dress, etc., and I am in jeans - hey it's a Mexican food place - what do I know? Anyway we had a great time. It was also nice when we ran over to text the daughter to go pick up our son from a party - HA - and she had to leave what she was doing for once - YES!

Prayers for the Scouts.

NEWS FLASH - this just in - someone in Nawth Carolina is ruining Groundhog Day for everyone.

Have a great day all!

Good Afernoon from Blueberryhill....

It is a cloudy 78 degrees. Going up to 81 today with a slight chance of rain.

Been a very busy day. Had to fix a couple of things around the house. Wife breaks things, just to keep me busy. ( looks that way ). Anyway, just remembered that I forgot to check in this morning.

Just had a huge airdrop over NC of large groundhogs. A couple thousand of them. Hungry too. Good area to multiply.

Well, Dining car was here early. Lunch too. So, I will wait on the supper car in a couple of hours.

Hoping y'all are having a great Saturday. Buckeye is !!!!!!!!!!!

Good afternoon --

A brief update of our flood and disaster situation in Iowa. In central and north east IA the rivers have crested and hopefully will begin to recede soon. In the eastern section, Cedar Rapids, it's still absolutely horrible -- 25,000 homes have been abandoned. They still have their water plant but are on strict rationing. Found hundred and thirty blocks were evacuated. It is predicted that the flood stage level will not be met until June 24

In Des Moines this morning one the levees was comprised at 3:45 AM, it was thought to be weak by the corps and their worst fears were realized today. I just walked in and I'm not sure at this point how many homes were lost, sadly it's an area that's was flooded in '93 but folks keep rebuilding there. The cooperation from all agencies has been excellent and first rate, there is however lots of grumbling towards the Army Corps of Engineers and why the huge reservoir north of Des Moines was not lowered sooner to make room for the typical May/June rains -- the finger pointing has begun.

THANK YOU to all who have kept us in your prayers, we are having drying days now but once again, storms may spring up tonight. 20% of our annual grain harvest has been lost. Our kids in northern IA are doing well, if they can avoid any more big rains they will be fine. We did develop a small leak around the fireplace on the roof so it looks like we will go ahead with a new roof this summer, I was hoping to get two more years out it, dang it. I need to find someone with great skills to install new flashing.

We do have the princess this weekend and the first thing she did yesterday was take my hand, headed for the basement and say "c'mon Grampa--TRAINS". We are blessed.

Jon, glad you and the family are doing well.  Heard on the news that 89 of 99 counties in the state are now "disaster areas".  Just heard that they have a Tornado Warning out there too.  Stay safe.

Watched "Shooter" a few minutes ago.  Good picture, but I liked the book "Point of Impact" better.  Still, it was exciting.  Watching some program on the Military Channel.

Chief, I am sure you'll do something good with it.  As for Groundhogs, seems like prairie dogs, shoot one, another pops up.  I like the Hornady V-Max bullets.  Longes shot on one of them was about 518 yards.

Thinking about going out for dinner.  So far, it has been quiet, but that can be broken up by the sound of a pager at any moment.  It is funny, all those things I have been wanting to do when the kids were out of the house, but alas, I have little desire.  Part of me wants to sleep and part of me wants to get that layout done.  All of me wants to have some time with the family.

Jack, sorry about Mr. Russert, he was one of the few noble ones in the profession.

God Bless,

Dennis

Retrieved my MTH SP SD45T-2 tunnel motor diesel engine today from LHS where it had been in for repairs.  Needed a new board for lighting.  Everything works fine now.  I have been bummed out since yesterday over the death of newsman Tim Russert of "Meet the Press".  I looked forward to his show on Sundays.  He was one of the good guys.  He will be missed my many. Evening all. Made it 1109 miles to HHI in South Carolina. What a trip - 2 hours to move 5 miles in Lexington, KY, torrential storms through Tenn. And the kicker - the top of the A/C hose blew off 550 miles ago - and its 97 out . Whew. As Homer would say - not the Greek one - 'that one's gonna cost me...' At least we made it - prayers for Jon and those who need them.

Good afternoon,

I do some of my own repairs and know what to take to the shop as well, all AC repairs go to the shop in Lake Worth on Dixie Hwy; I know a good mechanic there.

Places not to take a car; 1)Pep Boys, don't know what torgue values are! I had a clunking noise after replacing the front struts on our Camry, some bolts were only finger tight, Chilton's repair manuel says 60 foot pounds for the top bolts & 160 ft. lbs for the lower strut bolts. 2)Tire Kingdom, they take you to the cleaners on costs, $10.00 extra to change a tire on an aluminum rim!! Also tell you that you must get a four wheel alignment when you have any tire problem at all!!

Rockisland52, the three best cars sold in the U.S. as far as price goes are; Honda, Nissan & Toyota, all are very dependable and run great for many thousands of miles. Just be sure to do your maintenance work; like timing belts and oil changes.

A quick note about the Florida Turnpike and tolls, the new thing called Easy Pass or E Plate that rental car companies rent to you MAKE SURE you understand all the details before using them or be prepared to pay tolls and/or fines!!

Hi guys - prayers for Iowans and all who need them.  Not for groundhogs though - the only good varmint is a dead varmint, and that's all she wrote!  Good shooting Chief!

88 - did you check gas?  I've done that before....

Doug M - OMG, what a nightmare, no AC and 97?!  Glad you made it in one piece though.

Sir James - well, I found those new Atlas ore cars and Electrictrains Outlet in St. Louis!  They were $27.95, so I picked up two, the D&RG and the Jamison ones.  I almost got the third, but only have two kids!  Hey, it's an excuse to go back sometime, you know?  Also picked up a #4 RH gg switch and a caboose throw, as well as one of their new bumpers - looks pretty sharp!  Great store, wish I could visit more often.  Then, I got home and logged on only to find 1 minute to go on an MTH 19th Century tank car, US Leather Co.  So, I threw a $30 bid and got it for about $22!  Great deal!

RIP Chewy - best dog I ever had.

EVENING ALL

Well we had a  real nice day in the low 80s with no rain yet today. I got the grass cut and trimmed, added Weed & Feed because of all those tree seeds flying around, the little trees are growing everywhere. No news from the train store or my  friend since Thursday, so I'd say nothing new has come in. Garden plants seem to like the warmer weather and rain, they look good at this point in time.

Brutus,,,nice list of loot, wonder what tomorrow will bring for you. Banilla is ready....S.J.

Dennis, if you read this: I got a Letter from the IRS today, check is suppose to  be here by the 20th.

Lee,
What's up with EasyPass? I have it here in MD for trips to PA and haven't had any problems.

Brutus - Yep... ran out of gas two weeks ago. Wink [;)] When we got to the JD shop the guy says 'It was just purchased last year so it should be under warranty. As long as nothing really out of the ordinary happened, like hitting something.' Susie-Q, 'I wouldn't put anything past him. He hit a deer with my car two and a half years ago.' Shock [:O]

Chuck - Do you think Chief will ever realize that when you fertilize it causes groundhogs to multiply like getting Gremlins wet?

Hmmmm - Seems Buckeye is having fun... nothing from him since Wednesday. Maybe he's teaching them how to build bridges using wooden rocker bearings?

Mitch - Congrats on the occupancy permit! What piece of rolling stock are you looking for?

Dennis - Funny how our lists of things to do when alone grows, but once alone we wish we weren't.

Sent a box of cherries and nuts to my father for father's day. He received them yesterday. He called last night and to say 'Thank you. That was very thoughtful. Must have been Susan's idea.' Gotta love fathers.

jonadel - Thanks for the update, bro.  Funny how we used to give national news a passing glance before the internet (and forums like this).  Now, we stop and take notice because we know a "friend" who is "feeling it" somewhere's else.

Sir James - finally put "our" engine back together after a spray of Crystal Cote to seal the decals (which held up just fine Wink [;)]).  Looks good on the rails, but I am still tempted to weather just a touch...

88 - finished weathering "our" tunnel portal.  You might not recognize it after all the washes I splashed on it.

Chief - when you were stumpin', did you promise a groundhog in every pot, or something...Confused [%-)]

Good night all.  Had hamburgers and hot dogs on the grill at SIL's for FIL.  Big rain came.  We got home, dry. Sigh [sigh]  Thundering and lightning all around.  Weather alert going off and storms everywhere except Roseyville.  Even flash flood warnings south of us.  Got a big latern.  Has a square tube like hole in bottom and a wide cross shape legs in the middle.  Did one like that sit on a switch?  Had four sides with big round holes [probably had glass in them at one time but not sure].  BIL crawled under a house [they were going to demolish] near the tracks in Raleigh and found it and some picks ans shovels.  Pretty sure they were RR things.  Will take a picture and post later.  Have a good one.

Finally had time to catch up on the coffee pot!  Dennis, hope you enjoyed day - I generally try to keep busy on days like that.  Kurt - "Y" chromosome!  Laugh [(-D]  Too funny!  Fife, you could have avoided all that by working overtime!  That's what I did!  Mitch, big congrats on the school.  My trainees who are in Baltimore said it was really hot early this week.  Steve, glad the gg track is working out now.  Jack - too cool, wish someone would landscape my back yard for me.  Roy, hang in there with the construction.  It will eventually be over.  Maybe rent Mr. Blandings Builds his Dream House?  Great old movie.  Chuck, my wife and son put together a bed while I was at work.  A little while ago, I heard this loud "CRACK" sound from the back!  I yelled back to my son to make sure he was okay - yes.  What was that?  I don't know, something in the bed?  Wife went back and checked, says it was nothing.  I don't think I want to know anything more about it.  Chief, sounds like some really cool finds - decor for the train room?  CSX - I have no idea what the IT market is around here.  You might try USAJOBS.  I have heard in the past that the DEA downtown is always hiring computer people.  That would be cool, because it's the building right next to mine and it's only a few hundred feet from St. Louis Union Station and a big train yard.  The Station is really a mall now, the that is a busy yard.

Sir James' snores are keeping Chewy awake!  Time for a fridge raid in the old TARDIS, who's up for a ride?  TTFN

RIP Chewy - best dog I ever had.

Good evening all,

IIABSDISEI with temps in the 80s.  Good news!  Lucas' girlfriend is not moving to Texas.  He (and she) are very happy about that.  We are relieved we do not have to deal with separation trauma this summer.  Whew!   I did weights at the YMCA this morning and mowed the yard this evening.  In between we went to Indy for grandson's first birthday party.  Lots of people were there and everybody had a good time.  We did not have to host anything.  It was a good day.

I had the regular fare on the dining car this morning.  I hope everyone has a good day.  Prayers going out to those in Iowa and other wet places, but I am pulling for the groundhogs in NC.  Indiana will be assisting in the air drop program ("As God is my witness, I honestly thought those turkeys could fly.")

Keep on training,

Mike C. from Indiana

My band had it's first gig today since getting the new singer just 4 practices ago...much better singer, and much better attitude.  It was a block party with a bunch of families from the neighboring streets.  Great turnout, and everyone was very happy that we were there.  My 2 year old son got his first chance to see the old man play live.  I was really happy he was there.  He was clapping and dancing around.  Classic.  They already booked us for next year!

Everyone enjoy father's day tomorrow.  I hope you get something train related!

Good Morning from Blueberryhill....

Happy Father's Day to You Guys !!

It is a foggy 62 degrees. Going up to 82, today with sunshine.

Today is a less busy day. I plan on relaxing and watching the Nascar race, and maybe run trains , later.  Not too much else new here.

Prayers out to the folks in Iowa. More rain is on the way. That flooding is getting worse. I hope they get some Federal aid, pretty soon.

Dining car is here and it's time for breakfast. Later.

Y'all have a great Sunday.

GOOD MORNING and HAPPY FATHERS DAY

A short thunderstorm overnite probably messed up the weed killer in my weed and feed. Sunny now and 80s expected for today with more storms this PM. We are going to #1 sons house this afternoon, dinner for me and his FIL. A good idea this way the little ones can run in and out of his house for a change. Actually its nice as this son and our daughter had houses built so the back yards join giving them a big backyad to play in.

fife,,I'm glad  to hear  our engine project ended in a happy note, glad I could help.

All you mothe fathers enjoy our day  and eat hearty.....S.J.

Good Morning & Happy Fathers Day !!!

Jon - Really glad to hear your family is doing well, Sure hope it continues.

Roy - Maybe, Just Maybe all that work will be complete SOME day!  BTW sent you an email.

Laz & Chief - Need your help, can one of you measure the swing on the LIONEL Big Boy, say center rail to the extreme.  I'm putting a guard rail up on a section of 072, and since mine is in for warranty, not sure what the clearance rqmt its.  Thanks !

FIL coming over for a early F-Day celebration, probably around noon.  Chris has to work this evening.

Speaking of Chris, the El Camino is eating him alive with the gas.  G-ma, and G-pa, offered him their Honda ('93) as an alternative.  We've been working on a plan to buy a Scion, so this may buy some time.  Don't want him to be looking at a 36 or 48 month car payment.  So if we do this will wait until spring.  The Honda is like showroom condition.

I made significant progress in train room yesterday, got one of my lift out bridges built, will try to finish up the second one today, should be easy.

Take care guys !!  Have a great Day !

HAPPY FATHERS' DAY EVERYONE.  ENJOY.

The good news is that my daughter and SIL got me a landscaper for a day as a Fathers' Day gift.  The bad news is he didn't show up yesterday as scheduled.  At least I get to have happy dreams about what will be if he ever gets here.  Like waiting for that precious train one ordered that didn't show up on time.

Chuck...loved the groundhog airdrop assault on the Chief.  We need to dump Viagra down the holes to see if we can tip the war in the grounhogs' favor.  A war of attrition.  Knowing Chief for just the past 7 months, though, I'd be inclined to buy some stock in a bullet/pellet company.

Jon....stay dry and intact.  Roof leaks are tolerable on a relative basis, and replacement may be delayable with a bucket of roofing tar and resealing around the flashing to ward off water damage in the short run.  I did that 8 years ago with a chimney leak and have had no problems since, though I did pay a professional because I didn't want to become a medical statistic:  "Yup, another one of those do-it-yourself knuckleheads in room 4 with a busted (fill in the blank)."  Glad to hear the kids are ok too.  What a disaster.  Keep us posted.

Dennis....catching up on the 1,000,000 hours of lost sleep make you a better Doc and a more energetic Dad.  Sleeping is not only productive, it is downright vital....but you already know that.

DougM....wherever you are, welcome to the Broken Auto A/C Club.  Sorry.  Couldn't have come at a worse time, on the road.  Hope it was something simple, cheap, quick to repair, and does not interfere with your trip.

CSXect.....prayers for your mom.  How about formally celebrating Mothers' Day again?  May pick up her spirits.  Every day can be Mothers' Day.

Sir James....I feel for ya, brother.  Many of the topical weed controls need at least 24 hours undisturbed to do their magic.  You should have followed Chief's example and turned your spread into one big vegetable garden/hunting & fishing preserve.  Then found another home (with room for the trains) when wife took strenuous exception.  On the next visit to your former abode, you would have found that all of your former spaces for trains and storage taken up with a play room for the grandkids and storage for their toys.  I don't want to admit to you what my family room looks like: a toy warehouse.  Growing up, I can't recall ANY of my toys gracing the main living area of our home, except at Christmas with the trains around the tree.

Don.....what blue-blooded American boy would pick a practical Japanese car with fuel economy and reasonable insurance rates over an EL CAMINO?  Chick magnet too. Wake up!!!!  Chris is just doing what you and the rest of us did a few years back. Whistling [:-^]  No?  If you truly loved him, you'd buy him a gas card without limit. Smile,Wink, & Grin [swg]

Howdy all.  Early Church, SS and then to steak house for lunch.  Now to rest.  Shake and Bake, I'll dig it out of the parking lot and see.  I did that when I first got it but did not write it down.  Since you are such a nice guy   [when I don't know]   I will do my best to get that measured.  Got 3 tenths inch of rain early this AM.  Hope for more this PM.  Now to check for groundhogs and then check pond.  Play trains some then.  Later

PS: tell Chirs that a nice red scooter would fit him real well. Shock [:O]Whistling [:-^]

Don,

If Chris is concerned about gas mileage, tell him to look for a Probe.  My 1997 GT gets about 30 MPG.  They look good and have plenty of power.  A clean GT can be had for well under $3000.  Mine has 189,286 miles on it right now.  No major problems either.  I bought a Sunfire in January, and I hate it!  Gets about 20 MPG and has no power.  Speaking of probes has anyone been watching "In Plain Sight" on USA?  It seems like a great show.
