GOOD MORNING

Just got back from Kroger, where they were just restocking the freezers, had to toss everything out as power was off too long. The Speedway gas sta. had Reg at $4.24.That is the company that keeps raising the price and if no one follows they lower it. Sunny but still windy, 80s for today, storms forecast again for tonite and tomorrow. Mayhaps some train time today, still no new items arriving at the store. Nobody seems to know why. Have a nice thursday but watch out  tomorrow.         S.J.

Good morning from the North Shore of Taxachussetts.  The heat has FINALLY broken, and it's a beautiful, cloudless, and breezy 70 degrees.  The weather has not been kind to so many of you, so you won't hear any weather complaints about things in my neck of the woods.  The Iowa mess has me keeping Jon and family in my prayers.

Loved the picture, Doug.  Many don't realize how beautiful, relatively clean, and culturally rich Chicago is.  Every trip back there we make with family always includes day trips into the city with the granddaughter (now 4) to the Lincoln Park Zoo, the Shedd Aquarium, the Planetarium, and of course (not my idea) the American Girl Doll store....plus a stop at either Unos or Due's for pizza, time permitiing.  I'd like to hit the Field Museum and the Museum of Science and Industry, but the women in the group always seem to quickly jettison that idea to go shopping on Michigan Avenue.  So it's off to the Billy Goat Tavern for SIL and me while we wait out the inevitable financial devastation. Smile [:)] Sigh [sigh]

Got what I believe will be my last tank of sub $4.00, 87 octane gas last night in my car, nearly $73 to fill the tank.  May not see that ppg ever again. Sigh [sigh]  Both our cars' mfg. recommendation is 92 octane, but I have seen zero decline in fuel economy running 87 over the last 19000 miles.  The automatic ignition timing retarding electronics are doing the job, preventing pre-ignition and engine damage, I THINK, as I've heard no complaints coming from the engine compartment over the last 5+ months.

Heard that that oil reserves in North Dakota, Idaho, and Canada are estimated to contain 400-450 billion gallons, 6 times the oil reserves Saudi Arabia has.  And that one of the Dakotas has already cleared the way to build an oil refinery.  Meanwhile China is exploring 65 miles off of Key West (something is terribly wrong with this picture).  You have to blame the whole lot of the Washington pols, past and present, because no matter what party has control of the Congress or the Senate, no matter who is president, the constructive action on this dilema the same: nada. SoapBox [soapbox]  We have decades of nada to reflect on. Angry [:(!]

Sir James....I feel your pain.  We all love to see our grandkids.  We all cherish that alone time with them away from their parents.  And we all welcome the opportunity to help out family.  But somewhere along the line our own children who do have the wherewithall to utilize trusted day care and/or preschool or summer camps as the primary approach to cover the bases don't seem to opt for that approach as a first choice.  I too raised my kids.  And there is a very valid reason most say child rearing is best suited for the young.  When my grandchild is over, nothing else gets done because we are bound and determined that nothing bad is going to happen on our watch, more so than when we were parents of our own kids.  Like you, my wife, without any thought or mutual discussion, snaps at any and every babysitting opportunity, without hesitation.  And perish the thought that our kids should have to spend money on choices they have made, or had to make, with regard to balancing career, family, and finances.  For those of you on the Pot who are younger than I, please do not take offense at this observation.

Roy....with all of that heat down your way in Texas, I was wondering what you do to constantly evacuate all of that 150+ degree heat from your attic.

Ray....take lots of photos and videos of those grandkids at the events.  And you have the right idea about doing some internet research about the O2 and travel.  There are tons of folks in your boat that travel and have the exact same issue.

Chuck....at long last, a busted a/c story with a happy ending. Thumbs Up [tup]  Many of us will benefit from your observations WHEN it happens to us.  My FIL's a/c quit last week on his 12 year old auto a/c, and it wound up being something cheap and simple, an R34 evacuation and coolant recharge.....after his futile fussing and fretting over the possible expense of replacing a compressor or evaporator coil.

Kurt....after reading about your power outage and those Brent has experienced, I must warn you younger guys.  There is an element of romance women like about this situation.  Surviving by eating melting ice cream by candlelight with a frosty or two, no TV or PC distraction, while waiting out the outage.  Remember that you are in your child bearing years.  Oops [oops]

MikeC....please tell us you got some action photos or video of Mike and family on the field at the same time.  How often is that going to happen?

Rich....from the sounds of it down your way, my family and I lucked out, got in and out of Disney and Orlando and ducked the worst of the heat, humidity, and rainstorms.  Only drizzled temporarily one night.

Best regards to all and wishes for a good day.

Jack

John, I will check out logistics with Amtrak about oxygen use.  The most promising thing I have read about so far are portable oxygen concentrators that you can rent.  They run off of A/C or batteries.  Some models are approved for use by some airlines.  They would probably be good on a train also.  Prayers for you folks in all the flooded areas.  Chief, hope the fires get controlled soon.  I enjoy reading about your gardening.  I grew up in Southeastern, Virginia and had relatives in North Carolina.  I miss being able to grow vegetables like you describe.  My yard here in California is as hard as rock.  Only thing that grows good is weeds. Thoughts and Prayers for all with the bad weather, hope it ends soon !!!

SPMAN - I've been able to control most of my weeds, if you need some advice just let me know.  BTW the bluish-green glow is beginning to fade.

Did our Operating Session last night, didn't go as well as I would have liked.  I didn't have a predefined "gameplan", so we tried to create one on the fly, didn't work to well.  No challenge.  So will definetly have a better plan for next one.  Did have a CRASH that I caused.  Parked my train on a reversing loop siding, (never seen it used), while I was making a sketch of the layout and the switch locations.  Anyway, I restored the switch positions to the normal position, but missed one.  Got rear-ended !  One of the hopper cars in the consist fell about 5 feet to the floor.  (It was a club car.)  The guy that ran in to me was not to happy.  As it turned out, he had even brought a K-Line Cotton Belt Caboose that he had offered to sell me earlier in the day, I bought it.  Mint condition and even smokes.

RI52-You said it all so well,I would always help the kids in time of need, but using grandma as their fulltime babysitter has been a thorn in my side for a very long time. It has also lead to many discussions with my wife to no avail.   S.J.

Good afternoon!

Slightly cooler today as it is raining.

Went to Stuart FL to see my nephew as he stopped in at my parents house up there. We all went to the beach and then went out to eat later in the day. Have not seen the him in about four years before this. Has a new wife and step-children, the children are very well behaved.

Painting another part of the wall upstairs again before hanging the final part of the trim around the door. Moving on to back wall in bathroom as time allows, scrape & repaint job.

Got my electric bill and think it might be a practical joke, only $30.00 for the month? Should be around $200.00, wait and see next month.

Wes, have you considered using group 27 marine batteries for your needs?

Don, I have been controlling weeds in my flower beds with some stuff I got from the nursery that is suppose to kill the weeds but not my gazanias.  A small bottle cost about 10 bucks, that's the only drawback.  I just use Weed-B-Gon from Home Depot on everything else. Ray

Major heart break in Iowa the last 24 hours.  Four young Boy Scouts were killed by a tornado last night in western IA at a week long advanced type leadership camp.  To the east one of Iowa's nicest cities and major industrial centers, Cedar Rapids, is being overwhelmed with flood waters.  As I type this there are tornados on the ground in south east IA and the capitol, Des Moines, is hanging on for 48 more hours until the flood waters crest.  Major floods happened here in '93, they said it was the 100 year flood --  they now say this is the 500 year flood.  Go hold onto your loved ones.

Well, today was the big day. I saw Buckeye off, for his big trip up North, to have a meeting with John and LAZ. He roared down the highway, in the Big RED Duesenberg, dressed in the racoon coat, with straw hat. Seated next to him was Mrs. Buckeye, in her Mink coat, with large sun hat. The fox tails on the antennae, were flapping in the wind. I could hear the OOGA horn in the distance. What a GRAND sight.

Special note...Actually, Buckeye is the younger brother, of none other than, Chief.Legend has it, that, as a child,Chief, flunked out of several Northern reform schools. He was then deported to the Southern swamps, and could not use the scared name of O'Hare , anymore. He picked a new name which he uses to this day. ( some kind of bird ). No one is suppose to know about this story. So, I need you guys to keep it a secret. Buckeye is kind of embarrassed to admit he is related to a fugitive.

And with that, I shall watch the ball game .

Prayers for the scouts and families and you are right, Doug - saw video of this last night and it looked as if they did everything they could.  What a tragedy though.

Fertilized and weed-killer-ed the lawn tonight.  Found a 96 Coal Tower for Doug, but no reply to email.  It's not cheap though.  Guess they really are pretty rare?

Deepdiscount.com is having their biannual 20 percent off sale, plus always have free shipping and handling.  This is on dvds.  Did a search on "train" and page after page of train related dvds came up.  I bought the Great Train Robbery with Sean Connery for about $7.75 delivered.  Also, a Thomas dvd set that is usually $30 plus at other places I got for $21.24.  Lots of good deals!

Up for some banilla and good company, so I'll fire up the TARDIS and come get you guys.  I think CSX found my hiding place?!  Don - thank's for that glowing runway marker, made it a lot easier to find the house!

Laz, did you get that email I sent?  If not, I'll send again or just post a link here?  Happy Summer - hope you heal up soon and get back to whuping up on your brother on da course!  I'll bring you a couple cold ones and a stromboli grinder, okay?

RIP Chewy - best dog I ever had.

Good Evening All

A nice day in the 80s, warmer tomorrow with storms foecast. We still have some folks without power since sunday. the problem is cleaning up all those old big trees that fell on the lines. local weather reported hurricane force winds up to 90 mph. I have an eye exam tomorrow didn't notice it was friday the 13th till about this past monday. So the Chief is a fugitive, that would explain his natural talent for politics.    Brutus fire up the thingy and lets go somewhere.  S.J.

Evening all. Going to be off the pot for a time whilst we venture into the southlands.  Not sure we'll be able to explain to the natives about accessing this new-fangled Internet thing.

Our youngest turns six tomorrow - I like to reflect on how glad I am we were been able to add him to our life - he's adopted from overseas, like his siblings. Smile [:)]

Jon, real sad for Iowa.  Sorry such is happening.  God has a reason we just can not see it.  Hard to have faith sometimes.  Hope son is holding out OK.  God bless.

Rock, we should drill everywhere [the other folks are now drilling off our coasts and they can drill sideways {Southern term}].  Then do NOT put it in the world market.  Keep it here.

No way am I kin to Yankees.  OH, the Eagles came from England and settled in Maryland [Southern part I'm sure].  Two brothers split and one came south to NC.  Other one we never heard of again.  There were some in NY that traveled through Ellis Island during the 1800's and early 1900's.  They were traveling to the Bahamas a lot.  There a few Eagles in Canada.  This one is SOUTHERN born.

Back from Chamber buisness expo.  Big turn out.  Met a lot of new business owners that have just opened up in Roseyville.  One Commissioner kind of critized me [his Grandaughter was graduating] for not attending HS graduation.  I had told them I had bad coughing spells and since the building was not A/c'd [yes no A/C as very old building] I would have a problem.  Business expo ran from 4 to 8 and gardutaion was at 5.  Can not be two places at one time.  Better to meet people in town and new businesses than to attend a gradutaion of 500 kids who will NOT remember if I was there or not.  Popcorn time.  Good night all.

Good Morning from Blueberryhill....

It is a cloudy 70 degrees. Sun trying to come out. Going up to 88 today, with a chance of thundershowers, later this afternoon.

Today is a busy day. I need to finish the mowing this morning. I will be working outside, on a few other things too. Later, I may take a break and run trains. Need to relax.

Prayers out to the folks in Iowa. That is a terrible situation. Looks like no end in sight.

Dining car is here and it's time for breakfast. Be back later.

Y'all have a great Friday.

Mornin' Fellas.

Well we retrieved Susie-Q's Solara last night. Seems the transmission cable was rusted and was seizing and that caused it to not fully shift into Park, and when it did shift into Park it didn't always 'hold'. According to the mechanic he filed off the rust, lubed it, and put it all back together. Works fine now, shifts better, and runs a heck of a lot better, so we'll chaulk it up to being fixed and for $50.00 it was worth it! Now my car is at his place to have the A/C checked/fixed. He's a nice fella, little slow on getting things done, but he won't let you drive a car he wouldn't drive himself, and he doesn't put a hand on your shoulder when charging you either! Thumbs Up [tup] Rich he said you knew what you were talking about! Big Smile [:D] Asked if I was checking up on him to see if he was BSing me... I told I am very resourceful and know some very knowledgable people and many of them are mechanics or have worked on cars for years or have worked in the automotive industry... Wink [;)]

Have to work some OT tonight myself. While I hate doing this I can't complain because I could use the extra income right now, and I'm kind of hoping we have to come in tomorrow as well. Hoping to pull in an extra 12 - 16 hours... we'll see. We had a RAID go South on us. One of the drives decided to drop out of the RAID a couple months ago and we got that to join back up, but when it finally did the RAID decided it wanted ALL of the drives and sucked up the hot-swap drive as well. So we have to see if we can get the RAID to behave and then reimage the server. This is critical because it hosts our SQL Server Database that contains our website pages and our call tracking system... yes all developed by your's truely. So I have a slight vested interest in getting this to work... OH and this all started the day AFTER we spec'd out new servers... coincidence? I THINK NOT! I tell you these things have their own minds...

Good morning all,

It is a cloudy and rainy day in SE Indiana with temps and humidity in the 80s.  Supposed to cool off with a cool front courtesy of Doug M.  Busy last night.  Got to practice with "my" soccer girls.  Also enlisted some of them to help my wife watch the three grandkids when the kids and I play our games.  I scored a triple win last night with that move.  I avoided going to the YMCA, which is as boring as watching paint dry, I practiced soccer and I ensured domestic tranquility as well by getting the sitters.  Lucas and my wife did some shopping after I got home, leaving me some time to enjoy a concert on Second Life.

Sorry to hear about all the troubles in Iowa.  Indiana is struggling in some areas as well and I heard Wisconsin has its problems too.  One of these days things will get better.  I had a little extra on the dining car this morning.  I hope everyone has a good day.

Keep on training,

Mike C. from Indiana

And a lovely Friday to all

Jon: Prayers, bro, for you, the family and the Scouts.

Laz: And you have a reason not to do anything!!! Enjoy it while you can!!

Brent: Glad it worked out, $50 is not an unreasonable figure.  If he is honest and reliable, KEEP HIM!  Good techs are hard to findSmile,Wink, & Grin [swg], crappy ones are everywhere....Banged Head [banghead]...

Up to 88 (for real, Brent!!), possible rain and such this afternoon, and tomorrow and Dad's Day....and I have to finish removing the furniture from the apartmentBanged Head [banghead]....I really wanted to go to the Jax Suns baseball game downtown (get to play catch with the kids on the field prior to the game!!!).  Mrs Devil got a job offer, she'll open the magic (offer)envelope later today, so I'm hoping it goes well for her.

Jack/Rocky: No offence, dude.  Just wish I was closer so that the parents would get some time with my little ones (they're 29 & 16, now).  But I didn't rely upon the parents because of jobs and such...fire calls and emergency stuff (former firefighter)...different story.

That's all that's fit to print...and I'm NOT tocuching that Chief/Buckeye story...no way!!!

Time to do the company paperwork, maybe check out early....maybe...Whistling [:-^]
See ya later!

HI GIZ,

Well its day 2 of doing nothing.  Hate this but took off wrapping and saw railroad tracks on my back yesterday.  Looks good, 7 internal stitches and wife counted 16 external stiches.  So I guess I have another zipper on the bode.  Watched GOLF yesterday, US OPEN wish I coulda played.  Well big news today is our HS Girls softball team goes for the State Championship today.  It is going to be broadcasted on PCN, thats our state cable network at 10 AM today going to watch that.  Hope they win?  They lost last year in the final 7-3 so this year might be there year?

BIG TIME TONITE!!!!!!   BUCKEYE is in town and JOHN and I are going to finally meet DA BUCKSTER and probably make some comments about a certain SOUTHERNER?

  BUCKEYE A BIG TGIF.

Tomorrow is GUN SHOW in Harrisburg at the Farm Show Complex.  Hope to buy a SOCOM?
