LHS called this afternoon. Remote from Lionel for LEGACY was in. This was my first one that the middle column of numbers would not respond to when I pressed them. When I got to the Train Works, Dave and Rose handed me what Lionel had sent back. It was a BRAND NEW remote. Took about 3 weeks. We talked and figured that they would have to send it back to China for repairs and were waiting for a bunch to make the shipping worth while. Got the LEGACY set up in the dining room and when I FIANLY remembered how everything was hooked up ( well almost), I got tracks 1, 2, and 3 and the beacon working. Can't make track 4 work and haven't tried track 5 and 8. TR 6 and 7 are for accessories. Three walbangers, a glass of wine, a supper of liver and onions, a soak in the spa with a glass of Amareto, and THEN trying to make the trains work. It's time to pull the plugs and hit the hay, or whatever the matress is stuffed with!

On another note, deaths of parents, students, pets, and family friends are always difficult. In my 45 years of teaching I have never found it easy to deal with a former student who has passed away, for whatever reason. I think the suicides have been the hardest though. My prayers to all as you work through your grief and make yourr efforts to comfort those who need your helping thoughts.

Mel....Four years ago, we had a friend and a school teacher that committed suicide.  His death did not help his family or anyone else.  He would not seek professional help.  I encourge anyone that is depressed to seek help.  BTW, if you spent 45 years teaching, I think you are a candidate for Sainthood.  Thank you for your service to our youth.

Doug....If I wore your tie, I would not stand out in the crowd, but if you would send me a ND Ballcap,......Whistling [:-^]

I gather the Chief is still under the weather.  Grits and moonshine = Bad medicine.  I guess he will never learn.  BTW, I talked to an engineer friend who knows about the new road at Roseyville. Needless to say, since he solicited my help in selecting the preferred alternative route for the road, we will not be able to make fun of Roseyville in the near future. It will be wiped clean off the map.  Laugh [(-D]  The state real estate buyers are in a quandry.  How much do you pay a landowner who claims that the two cars on blocks, the broken front porch and the engine hanging from the tree are works of art?

The cherry blossoms are out.  Last year at this time we had a huge ice storm that destroyed the apple crop. I think today I will work on and run the trains.  I would like to get out and take some photos of the OC.

Well untill the next time, see ya down the tracks.

Mornin' boys.  Clearing & 59 here in the Mid-Atlantic region.  Had thunderboomers over night, which made for great sleeping weather.  Wasn't going to go to the big train show in Timonium, but my mate insists on getting me something nice, so we will be there around noon.

Good Morning from Blueberryhill....

It is a clear and sunny 46 degrees. Going up to 70 today with sunshine.

Today is a busy day. Lots of things to do around the house. Wife got sick at her sister's in Parma, yesterday, and decided to spend the night. I'm glad she did, as it is a 150 mile trip home. She should be home later this morning.

No train time today but I will be in the train room tomorrow.

Dining car has been here and has headed for " points west ".  Breakfast was self serve.

Chief....I hope you are feeling better today.

Y'all have a great Saturday.

That was sure a short spring/summer/fall -- we awoke to 1" of fresh snow, SHEEESH! Flood warning for southern Iowa in six counties, we have had rain every day this week with gale force winds, just horrible. On Wednesday it's supposed to be 70 -- how can this be?

We are working on the layout today, sure can't plant flowers. Hopefully take a few new pics today for Photo Fun tomorrow.

Buckeye -- black shoes, BLACK sox :) Even though it's spring, you should not wear your new white sox.

Cold damp day here in Chicagoland.  Since I am stuck inside anyway (recovering from back surgery), I do not mind days like this.  Looking forward to watching the Masters this afternoon.

Morning All, Afternoon Most !

Glad everyone made it throught the storm!  We are suppose to get up to the 90's today, then will send the warm weather back to the rest of you.  We will take the brunt of it,

Sorry to hear about Frankie's dog, that really is young!  Talked with the Chief a little yesterday, sounded a bit rought, but I think he will make it.  He still need lots of rest, and suggested he try some of the simulated grits, before he dives into the real thing.  (Buckeye, there should be an aboundance of building material for that new roadbed as long as the Chief is on a grits restricted diet.)

Had a big mess to clean up this morning !  There were tons of ice cream cartons all over the place. Lots of spoons floating in the pool, and a few shoes that had been chewed up pretty good.  Got a call from the local Hooters this morning, wanting to know if they could get the tops back that someone had borrowed.  There was a real sense of urgency, seems they had to be at some formal event this evening.  Hope it all works out for them.

Going to be a good day, work awhile in train room, wife is having a bunco party at a friends house this evening, and Chris be working, so I'm on my own. Unfortunately, I'll be stuck with the taxes this evening, UGH!!

Want to check and see what I need to post a video, reviewed the one I shot at our clubs operations.  Wasn't too bad, but definetly could see it was done by an amateur.  But the emphasis was watching the trains, not paying attention to what I should have been doing.

Hope everyone has a great day, and the Birthday celebration is a great success.

Don - Laugh [(-D]  You are a a great host and really enjoyed the party!  Chewy was just worn out when we got home!

Went out this morning to drive the truck while the kids did the April Showers girlscout thing, but they had extra adults and drivers so my wife told me to go home!  Well, um, OKAY - VRRRRROOOOOOOM, Screek!  Plop!  On the computer!  Need to find out whether you can run a single conventional train on a loop with TMCC?  Is that right?  Everything I have read says you must have a TPC or Powermaster to control a conventional engine, otherwise it's just 18 volts to the track, right?

You are rite Jim, to operate a conventional loco with a Cab-1 you will need a TPC or a Powermaster. Personally if it were me I would go with the TPC as they offer more options than the Powermaster and you already have the TMCC command base so a powermaster would be a duplication.

RANT WARNING !

Got a little distracted while responding to Jim's query. They were doing a news story on the kid that got suspened from school because he received a call on his cell phone from his father who just happens to be serving in Iraq. They said his suspension was a result of "School Policy". Now policy is one thing but what ever happened to excersizing a little common sense. Angry [:(!]

Rant finished.

Brutus;

I was able to run conventional trains with the CAB 1 and am able to run them with the LEGACY as well with what came straight out of the box. Each loop on my layouts has a separate brick. Each one goes through a new ZW. Use TR 1, 2, 3, or 4 or 5, 6, 7, or 8 to adjust the voltage to the track. Remember that 1, 4, 5 and 8 start at 0 volts and 2, 3, 6, and 7 start at whatever voltage the ZW is set to. I had to go 1 through 8 in the dining room as I have six loops and two accessory circuits. The first ZW is set up straight out of the box. I reprogrammed the second ZW so the first handle was TR 5. The CAB 1 and the LEGACY units will both lower the voltage on 2, 3, 6, and 7 so you can control conventional speeds just as if it were a "normal" transformer. I have not tried to run anything other than conventional on that loop at the same time. Hope this helps.

Mel, so the Cab-1 is actually using your zw to control the power?  I have a couple z1000's, so I don't think this would work for me though...

Ah - it's all so confusing!  I found 1 LHS that has a tpc in stock, but it's msrp so $200, plus need a data cable too, so $220 from them.  Charles RO would be about $160 total for both....  Have to decide in a couple minutes, cause that one LHS is about 45 minutes to an hour from my house and closes in about 90 minutes, I think!

Morning all.  OH, Its afternoon.  Slept until 10 AM.  Wife cooked me a fried bolona, cheese and egg sandwich.  Had anohter bad coughing spell.  Changed my apporach to the meds thing.  Might be working better.  Temp is down to 100.5.  Went to pond and checked everything out and drove back to the house.  That will be all of my outside activities.  Right now, dripping in sweat.  Next will be chills.  Giving it a fight.  Wish I felt like doing trains.  Fife, send your seven year old.  She can work on scenery for me.  Cloudy and some storms due.  Then will turn cold and close to frost temps by Monday AM.  Apple tree full of blooms.  I can not type.  Fingers get to hitting three keys at the same time.  I give up.

Yeah, hard to justify spending an extra $50.  That would completely negate the deal I got on the cab1 and base.  I guess I can wait, thanks for the tip!

Hello Doug:

Cell phones in schools are a MAJOR problem.  If the student was expecting a call from his father, he should have told school staff at the start of the school day and I am sure the administration would not have had a problem with him leaving the phone on.

John,

I have to respectfully disagree with you on this one. In a combat area you don't even know when you will get a warm meal let alone be able to take some time to make a call home at a scheduled time. However I will agree that cell phone useage is a major pain period, in schools or otherwise, seems like the vast majority of users either never learned or forgot what courtesy and manners are all about.

How about we just get back to trains. Approve [^]

Hello Doug:

We have to agree to disagree.  You are absolutely right, if you are in a combat zone you may not know when you have a chance for a breather.  However, IF the student just told the school in advance that his father might be calling, I guarantee you the situation would have been different.  In any event, the kid should just take the suspension and not worry about it.  I am sure it was worth it to hear from his father.

John

(Not) Sorry,

I will side in with Doug on this one.  If the administrators at the school or on the schoolbord don't have enough sense to perceive the difference in the call, or they don't have the authority to determine when the policy should be applied, then we have the WRONG people.  If we can't assume that the administration and educators can't exercise good judgement, then What in Hell are we trusting our kids lives in their hands for????  Eg:  Crosswalk light is green, everyone walk, don't worry about the truck, he's out of policy. Oh so tempting to respond to this issue....... to those of you disagreeing with the school's position, consider running for the school board or getting your administrative endorsement and be a principal.  I'm with John on this one.

Hey guys,

I think that people need to use discretion.  This blind application of rules is nothing but cowardice.

Orderd a TPC400 and cable along with some more track.  Then, I took my son out "on the town" and let him buy a video game with the money from some I traded in.  That wasn't fair for the daughter, so I bought her one too.  I let him get a comic book as well, with "his own" money (that seemed to come out of my pocket Wink [;)])  Then we went out and got a couple sandwiches for dinner, wifey calls as we are eating some banilla cones and wants to know where we are going to eat dinner?  D'oh!  Oh well, had a great moment when my boy pulled his only $2 out and went up to buy us the desert with his own money - "I'm buying, Dad".  I ended up sweetening the pot, but it made me proud!

Wife just got home and turned off my movie Sad [:(]
