Sir James, I got that key - it came through and the computerized 3D cad/developer burned it out in no time!  Once that alloy has set, we should be good to go.  Should be fine tonight?  Big cookies at Doug's last night were great, but needed some Banilla!

Don, those are some tempting alternatives!  Maybe just on Thursday nights?  Isn't that ladies night?  Whistling [:-^]  Maybe SJ and the rest of the gang should plan a roadtrip?  Ditto on that direction observation!

Wow, you start feeling better soon, Chief.  A buddy swears by bourbon and thera-flu, but I would not mix that with codeine.  Codeine bothers me, so I can't take it.

Fife - YUCK! Laugh [(-D]  2 Scoops of icecream for you!  Take your pick of flavors, I'm buying it!

88 - as I am currently training some folks, I can say that nobody ever gives me any time to do those extra little things like grading work, grading tests, updating records, actually giving training, helping with the usual computer problems, etc.  And, Sad [:(] I can't take work home to grade/auth due to privacy rights.  SO, I just went to management today and asked for help to catch up with the work that was already done.  I know that some are not happy that I am not grading/authorizing all of their work, but the fact is that 8 to 1 is just too many by a factor of maybe 8!

Laz, that's some good fishing!  Good luck on the golf-course, do you play loser buys at that famous last hole?

Kurt, I'm watching a couple TMCC locos right now, depending which way the prices go I might have to indulge.  Also looking at a TPC, like Dennis said I would probably get the overkill 400 personally.

Mike, hope things work out with the kids too.  A lot of the younger people that have been hired at my office are having problems adopting to reality, where people expect actual results and work.  I keep trying to impart this to our kids.

Doug, you better dig out that snow blower!  We are due rain, but might be some mushy snow early in the game Saturday morning.  Of course, I'm driving the van while the wife and the girlscouts pick up the APril Showers bags full of stuff  Sad [:(]  I'd rather be working OT and paying for a new locomotive!  I suggest a necklace with a tiny gold trolley on it for your wife and a matching motorized Birney, so she can play trains with you, too!  Of course, you would have to keep it in good working order...  Evil [}:)]

Roy, sent you an email with a picture of a Texas earthworm my FiL sent me!  Laugh [(-D]  I switched computers a couple months ago and something Doug said made me check - yep, you were dropped from the emails.  Sorry, man.

Welcome back, Drew - Reggie moved to N scale, but I think he said he'd stop by from time to time and say hello.

J&J - my Dad had a laminectomy about 40 years ago and it has been pretty successful.  Be sure to do your exercises and stuff and you should be right as rain!

CSX - that's funny, I knew you were making tables and when you said you were cutting yards, my first thought was an addition for that layout???  Go, man, go!

Just reading my Command Control book and it seems I need a tpc to proceed, so things are on hold for a few days I guess.  Of course, it would not be fair to the seller to delay feedback too much!  So, I better get on that asap, right?  It's only polite!  Wink [;)]

Which link was that, Cooltech?  Sounds like lots of projects there, too!  I'm up to my ears in projects.

More later!

Fife - I have family that lives in Pittsburgh, so I would have to make that trip in-cog-neat-o. Sheraton Station Square is a nice place. The Grand Concourse is a 5 star restaurant that used to home to a trainstation (I think B&O but not sure), they have awesome food but it is PRICEY. The PRR station is across town near the USX Tower (Steel Building).

Also, at night you should take a trip up the Duquesne Incline, walk along Mt Washington and take in Pittsburgh by night, then take the Mon Incline back down to Station Square. Some good eating places up on Mt Washington too.

Jim,
I fully understand. The problem is this is a Master's Degree program and he is getting paid to do this work. I have to manage my time to get the work done and submitted on time, yet he simply hasn't been doing what the University requires of him. He is the first facilitator to be unable to get his work done.

88 - Gotcha!  I'm not making excuses for the guy.  Probably, he took on other work or is putting some other project ahead of yours, which is not fair to you!  Could be that the school is pushing extra on him, though?  Oh well, I am on your side here since I'm not your facilitator, LOL!  I've just been dealing with the other end of the stick for a couple months now and it's wearing me down a little.  My son was playing with your cards the other day - reminded me what a great guy you are!  Thumbs Up [tup]  Have you made any videos of your trains running on the new layout since you worked out that upper level?  How is the bridge going?

Jim - I had forgotten all about those! Glad he is enjoying them. All they were doing is collecting dust here. Wink [;)]

No video yet. I have to get a video card for the computer so I can hook up the camera. I do have some nice 'visual' shots of the GP-30s coming out of the tunnel portal onto the steel arch bridge. (no pictures, just me watching it) I found a problem tonight that I have to correct, there is a 3/16 inch gap between two track sections so I have to unscrew a bunch of track to fix it! [tdown] So that is going to set me back a bit. Need to get to Lowes tomorrow to buy some wire for the power drops.

I got side tracked tonight and mocked up the siding for the Domino Sugar Plant. Now that that is done I can install the ceiling tiles tomorrow. Not sure I'll get wiring done this weekend as someone mentioned keeping me out of the train room. Disapprove [V]

Brent, I went to College in PGH.  The girl I dated loved to go to Christopher's on Mt. Washington.  We also enjoyed the fun at Station Square and clubs on Carson.  Brings back memories.

Y'all have a good night, time for bed.

Brutus-Time to start our evening tour,I'll head toward Kurts, you head towards Dougs and we will see where we get invited in. Glad the key arrived safely.

Good news/bad news for me today.  I am not allowed to bend over for the next couple of months which makes it almost impossible to do any work on the layout.  What does my wife do today?  She surprises me by stopping at my LHS and picking up my Legacy system and my GP7.

Talk about having a mixed reaction Tongue [:P]Angry [:(!]

This is like being in purgatory.  I got this great new toy and I can't play with it!

Sometimes I wonder if my wife does these things to taunt me...

RT - No!  Wow, that's a serious bummer!  I hope they get it right if you drive there and watch them do it!  Hang in there!

J&J - that's just the way wives are.  Why, not 10 minutes ago, while I was innocently browsing some steam locomotives (with tmcc), my bride looked over my shoulder and said, "Whatcha doing?  Hmmm?  Looking for a new train?  One to go with that new toy you bought?  Hmmm?"

Brutus

Every thing is all set.....
Can't believe how busy I've been! I have been working on getting stuff set up and coordinated with some of the local establishments, seems people are confused on the difference between shooters and hooters. I was trying to arrange for a pre-medicinal beverages so that the Chief's undoing doesn't spread. Arranged for some pina colada ice cream for those that prefer the lighter side or have some dietery restrictions. Finding Teriyaki flavored pet snacks has taken some effort as well. But I'm sure it will be worth it. Got everything set up with Take-Out bags so know one has to worry about missing a connection for the return trip. And as an emergency measure Doug
dagrump has a full tank of gas, so he's got the backside covered.  Don't want anyone to be late, and have to come up with some unbelievable fabricated excuse.

BTW if anyone comes across any TOFU, STAY AWAY FROM IT !!! That's what the Chief got into! He was having a Grits withdrawal attack, and I tried to get him to have some of the styrofoam bisquits I found (even had some pink cherry flavored ones), but he was more insistent on having the TOFU, and that's what did it. (It was imported with some kimshe, by one of my neighbors.) I sent him home with some popcorn so maybe he can start on a gradual popcorn inducement program in order to avoid a radical Grits reaction right away.

Anyway I think we will be ready, everything is in place even the unexpected entertainment (above), so no cameras, and you must be on your best behavior. And I will make sure everything is ready. (Don't worry about being quiet, with the time change it wont matter.)

Be safe! See you All!

Mornin' fellas.

Not much going on around these parts today. Probably try to get the wall patched tonight, then work on the layout. Supposed to be another warm one here with showers starting tonight through tomorrow to cool things off. Seems like the kids throughout the nation need to stand outside in a driving rain to cool their fuses.

Anyone ever move a hot water tank? I'm thinking of relocating our hot water tank so it doesn't block the open space under the stairs - want to turn that into storage space. The tank is only moving 10 feet, so I know I would need some PVC pipe, and some wire (electric tank). Question is what do you do with all that water? And should you turn it off first and let the water cool? This is a 75 gallon tank and we have well water, so if I could drain the water, then use that water to refil I would prefer that route (less time to reheat the water). What I was thinking was calling some rental places to see if they rent 55 gallon drums and the manual water pumps...

Good morning all,

It is another interesting weather day in SE Indiana with it being dry and warm now and rainy and cooler later on.  Right now it is 60.  I did weights last night and some more Second Life.  Semi-good news about Lucas.  It looks now as if he will be able to be in the show.  How well he will be able to perform remains to be seen.  Could be an interesting day at work as well.  Everybody else is back from being on the road and we have a major conference to get ready for next week.

JohnandJulie13, I think the IRL will be good this year.  There may be some teething pains for the former CART teams on the ovals, but everybody should be good on the road courses.  The recent sponsorship announcements are good as well, and somebody from other than Team Green or Team Red has already won.

I had the usual fare on the dining car this morning and it is headed to "Points East".  I hope everyone has a good day.

Keep on training,

Mike C. from Indiana

Good Morning from Blueberryhill....

It is a cloudy 55 degrees. Rain is coming. Thunder and lightning in the distance. Going up to 65 today.

Today is a busy day. Wife is driving up to her sister's in Parma. I'm not too happy about her driving in the rain, but she feels confident about it. I will take it easy and run trains later. Maybe go outside, if the rain stops.

Dining car has arrived from " points west" and it's time for breakfast.

Y'all have a great Friday.

Hello Brent:

Can you shut off the tank and use up the remaining water before moving it?  I do not think you want to transfer it and then put it back in, it may become non-potable.  While you are only moving it about 10 feet, the water alone will weigh over 500 pounds.  Good luck, let us know how it turns out.

John

Hopefully there will be a little more sizzle for the 500 this year.  I know many of the NASCAR fans on this board will disagree, but I still think the best race of the year is the Indy 500.

Morning all from cloudy Southern Ohio,

It is to rain off and on pretty much all day.  Great test for the Civic's windshield.  I discovered a leak from where the windshield was replaced last fall.  The shop resealed the windshield and now I am trying to dry out the carpet.  A shop vac and fan blowing on it is the route I'm using for now.  Any suggestions on how to remove the musty smell?  It's not bad but it is there.

Brent

The rental operation of the pump would more than likely offset the savings of re-heating the water.  I would turn off the tank the night before to let it cool and not re-heat .  Remember to purge the air from the new tank by letting water run through it, for a period of time before turning on the heating elements.  The top element gets burned out quickly when not submerged in water and an air bubble can get trapped in the tank if you don't run the water through.  Start filling the tank with a nearby hot tap that is physically higher than the tank open, when the water stream stops sputtering, close the tap for a minute or two while still filling the tank, open the tap till sputtering stops, do this several times, till no more sputtering.  Let the system sit for a half an hour then repeat the process till no more sputtering.

Jon- Take care of the back, I will continue to pray for you.

Chief- You are in the prayers too to recover from the bug you have.

Take care,

May God bless

Jim

Good Morning Gentlemen:

I missed being part of the discussion about the passing of the Charlton Heston.  He was a one of a kind movie star.  My top 10 Heston roles:

10. Treasure Island.  This was a made for TV movie that came out in 1990.  CH did a fantastic job as Long John Silver.

9. Soylent Green/Omega Man.  Campiness at its best.  "Soylent Green is made from people!"

8. Three Musketeers.  CH was great as the conniving Cardinal Richelieu.

7. The Agony and the Ecstacy. A tormented Michelangelo.

6. Ben Hur.  Kind of a plodding movie, in my opinion, but Heston was great and you can't beat the chariot race.

5. Major Dundee.  Not one of Peckinpah's best, but CH does a great job in the title role.

4. El Cid.  Also with Sophie Loren.  Ooh la la.

3. Touch of Evil.  CH plays a mexican lawman matching wits against an evil Orson Welles.

2. Planet of the Apes.  "Take your stinking paws off of me, you damned dirty ape!"

1. The Ten Commandments. "Let my people go!"

So long Mr. Heston, you will be missed.

Regards,

John

GoodMorning All

Temp in the 40s going to 70. BUT,the cold air coming in behind the warm is is suppose to bring severe storms. All we can do is wait and see.

Ah the wife torture routine. I broke my knee once, had a cast from my yatzee to my ankle. so my wife waxed the stairs to the trains. Not really, but she told everybody she did. Also could not drive so had to have her take me where I wanted to go.torture I tell you.

Heres hoping y'all have a great weekend and my house wiring stays intact. S.J.

Morning all. Weird weather after all of yesterdays storms - clearing and warm - so humid it reminds me of when we lived in Peru complete with diesel fumes. As Brutus says, temps are supposed to crash tonight - this is all my fault as I put away the snow-blower. Bride's birthday celebratory weekend begins tonight. Tried to interest her in an Atlas trolley to no avail. Great list of CH's movies.

Since you're on a well..it's probably better to just drain the water out the bottom of the water heater into a floor drain or utility sink.  There is usually a build-up of sediment...ours is like that.  If you have a sacrificial annode in the top you may want to replace it while things are apart.  The water may smell like eggs for a bit...but that's normal for a new annode, and well water.  Careful moving it.  Water Heaters are glass lined.

Hey...Is that light finished???  Whistling [:-^]

Cooltech:  Soundboard??  I used to run sound at church.  Yamaha PM 4000, Mackie Heritage 5000, and a large Soundcraft monitor board.  What are you using the board for?

Chief:  Sit down for 2-minutes run some trains, and let your body heal.

Don:  Kimchee!  MMMmmmm  I eat that stuff like candy!  Will leave the Tofu for the Chief!

Great hockey night out with my Bride!  Longest we spent, just together, in I don't know how long.  We left the arena, and were about 50-feet away from the train, and she remembered she forgot her purse.  DOH!  Went back in and she found it.  We ended up walking the waterfront to the parking structure, because the line was so long to get to the train.  (about 1-mile walk)  Great time.

Weather warming up...I'm thinking...Pull the smoker out, and Brisket for Saturday!

Brent,   The annode rod is a sacraficial metal rod that is meant to corrode hopefully preventing the tank from corroding or at least not as fast.  On top of the tank it should looh like a large brass hex shape.Your local hardwear store should have replacements. They also have flexable ones for areas with low overhead. From a personal standpoint I flush my tank on the first of the month. This helps remove the sedament in the tank. I also exersize the pressure releif valve when I flush the tank. I dont know about electric tanks but with gas when there is an excess amount of sedament the burner has to "work" harder to heat the water. This shortens the life of the tank by over heating the tank and the glass lining at the bottom of the tank.

Thanks guys. This doesn't appear to be that difficult a task! Smile [:)] Do I need the tank model to get the correct annode? I'm not sure I'm getting much, if any, sediment. The house is double filtered (large particle, then micro particle) and since we're on well we don't have the chemicals that city water has. According to my Dad we have incredibly soft water.

The only problem I can see is the refilling as the closest faucet is the kitchen and that is a good 50 feet away. Can't I just turn on the water supply, open the hot water faucets and purge the air that way?
