Nothing to report on the job search yet, sooo....

I'll report that the painting saga continues.  The closet is all put back together but the master bedroom is now pretty much empty.  Ceiling first then the walls.  But have to do a little more prep work before I paint.  Bad news is that the carpet has a definite wear pattern and it is stretched.

Got the truck back yesterday.  Bought the parts to give it a little tune up.  It should be good for a couple more years or so.

Don, it certainly sounds like a lot of fun..Question, if one group has a accident/derailment, are they penalized?  I would imagine that you'ld have to hold them a little to accomodate the real world delays in clearing the track.

Welcome back Drew.  A few of us had gone for awhile, but are back as the air is cleared and good folks are here again (mostly).  Hope you have been well.

I hope that I am done for the night.  Have a couple of cases in the morning, but if I get hit tonight, it will make for a long day tomorrow.

Chief, hope you are well, how'd things go with Doc's the other day?

Roy, it often works out like that....too many things scheduled at the same time.  If they do it again, perhaps we can hook up.  In the mean time, enjoy York!

God Bless,

Dennis

Good evening all,

Picked up a nice Gulf tank car today at Cool Trains.  Chrome and orange, is that prototypical?  It must be since MTH built it. Wink [;)]

John, Hope the worst is over and it gets better every day.

Don, Sounds like you guys had a blast at the operating session.

Sr James, That's what clean living will do for you.

Roy, That was a very nice jesture.  Now you need a nice scraple breakfast to relax.

That is all I can remember.

Good news, Sir James!  That's from all this walking back and forth between MO and MI for cake and rootbeers and banilla icecream!

J&J, welcome back - take it easy?  What was the specific finding/surgery?  Was a disc?  Laminectomy?  Just curious!

John F - that's something, your family has some real roots there!  Thumbs Up [tup]Thumbs Up [tup]

Roy - great pics and looks like a blast!  Love those smiling kids!

Kurt - you are BAAAAD, LOL!!!

88 - you sure have made a ton of progress!  I'll have to remember to email you when I start my big layout (next year?) for info!

Doug, Sir James, Kurt, and all you guys are welcome to come over - we can use my StarGate to jump to Sir James' house for banilla icecream.  Chewy gets peanut butter, she was a good girl today!

Fifedog,

After finding a Pennsy RR map I now see where I was in error.  I wasn't aware of the 2 major crossings of the Susquehanna ( the major ones that were formerly electrified ).  Shocks Mills is quite a bit down river from Rockville and the 2 bridge structures look almost identical.  If I get a chance I'd like to visit both sites plus other points of interest when I'm in Hershey this fall.  In fact, I'd like to prolong my visit there to attend fall York.

Sorry, knew I missed some -- Don, sounds like a really good time!  Maybe you could put a video of highlights online some time?

Dennis, yeah - I'll bet there would be a time penalty?

Good luck on the jobs for CSX and Greg and RT, too!  Personally, I'd rather do about anything except painting a room.

Welcome back, Lee!  I heard Orlando has had a lot more rain than usual and hotter than usual?

Chuck - I refilled the other day for $3.29.  I heard we might hit $4 and price of crude went up again.  What a mess.

Doug - I thought you already picked out a new Birney for your bride?  Gonna motorize it for her too?  She'll get spoiled - Laugh [(-D]

Chief, Wake Up!  Time for Popcorn?  Sir James already went to bed and he forgot to leave the key you know where?  Chewy and I had to "Leap" back to MO....

PS - Roy, that's really nice of you to sponsor that kid.  I'm sure he'll get a lot out of it!

PPS - has anyone else got this really disturbing picture of Fife's calves in their mind now?

Dennis -  There are so many things that we did not do, and as many others that we did do that we shouldn't have I doubt it matter much.  One group actually lost one train on the 2nd lap, he didn't come back until the final lap.  So if we were competing they would have lost.  But we are still in that pre-season, drill, drill, drill stage.  But, we made one HUGE step forward.  Had 5-6 guys on the layout NOT following each other and trying to do something were you had to think "just a tiny little bit"  not much more than sustain life.  And THAT was enough for us to handle.  The 2nd group had a track clearance problem at the very end.  So what do they do?  Foul the track so the passenger train could complete its trip.  They had a trainful of riders setting in the desert for an extended period of time, while a section of track just BEYOND the station was being analyized.

As far as posting a video, I actually did take some video, but I've got to figure out how to download it to a computer and post it.

I've been amiss lately, don't think poorly of me for not acknowledging the other posts.  Been so busy and when I get here, I seem to go into Shutdown Mode, and practically fall asleep sitting at the keyboard.

Tonight Chris and I went BACK to the club, I needed to return some stuff, of course the talk was about yesterday, and still seems like a lot of enthusiasm.  So will just let it rest for awhile.  Next session is secheduled for 4/29.  After leaving the train club, then decided to go and play pool.  We played 5 games, Chris 1, Dad 4.

HI GIZ,

BUSY day yesterday, All day was working on flats for prom.  Got all my walls made hung doors and windows.  Also built walking bridge for MS.  3 foot wide by 10 foot long arched bridge with hand rails.  Might get some brownie points.

Speaking of brownies,  Me and BROTHER fished for trout the other nite and in an hour caught and released 24 nice brownies and rainbows.  Biggest about 12inches.  All were caught between 630 and 730.  Great nite.

Well suppose to be 68 today.  That means BREAK OUT THE CLUBS.  First day o spring training for GOLF season.  Starts today after school.  Then the important 19th hole.

  Happy FRIDSAY EVE!

JOHN, glad surgery went fine.  Take your time in rehab.

GOOD MORNING ALL

It's a chilly 37 with lots of clouds. The storms in the west are forecast to be heading our way tonite/tomorrow. This morning TV news reported a tornado in Mich. yesterday so spring is here somewhere. My trains are waiting for me as I have not run any for a few days but it won't be much longer now.

Brutus= I had a key made for you, sent it e-mail this morning, now you,Kurt, and Doug can come in anytime. Of course anyone else that likes banilla ice cream is welcome. I still have not seen anything on the local news about the GG1. They are too busy with old news about the Detroit mayor.  Enjoy thursday as you still have one more work day. Most of you anyway.,,,,,,

Good morning all,

Was dry and cool this morning in SE Indiana, but it is supposed to warm up and rain today with temps in the 60s.  Who knows what will really happen.  I did some outside track work last night and watched "Deal or No Deal".  Lucas will probably miss the musical he has been rehearsing for the past few weeks.  We thought he had a cold and let him skip rehearsal last night.  He woke up with a 101 temp and the wife is taking him to the doctor today.  The director has a "miss two rehearsals and you are out policy" so I think he will not be performing.  We already have tickets for both nights, but I can give them away if he can't perform.  I am not sure how I am supposed to feel about the situation, but I can't say I am upset or surprised by this turn of events.  I was kind of hoping he could have this part in the show as something to show for spending four years in high school, but even that has gone away.

It is interesting to see how your expectations for your kids do not always meet the reality.  The older daughter has a wonderful musical talent, and yet she does almost a full time job for part time pay as a parochial school elementary music teacher who does not have her master's yet.  The younger daughter, who was probably the least academically gifted, will be the first in her family to get a master's degree.  And Lucas, who I thought was the most intelligent of the three, will be doing good to graduate high school.  Of course, the chemo played havoc with his brain, but even before that occurred, the lack of effort was apparent.  I always try to look at the bright side of a situation, and perhaps not being in the show will make it obvious to him to take better care of himself.  I do not know at this point.

I had a little extra on the dining car this morning.  I hope everyone has a good day.

Keep on training,

Mike C. from Indiana

Morning all. Thank goodness Brutus has a key now so we don't have to sit out in the snow waiting for Sir James - Hope everyone is doing well today - it is cold and rainy here. Enjoyed chatting with Dennis last night. Don, I love the summary of your op session. I like how you designed it as a sort of game. The only sessions I have experienced was different. You 'marked up' for a job and then did it for a few hours - interacting only as you had to with others. It was a bit intense. Mike C, it sure is interesting to see how kids unfold.

Morning all!

Cooler here. Huge storm blew through last night at 4 am. 70 mph winds. Pool is full of green pollen and leaves (Buckeye sent me some). Got about an inch of rain.

Mike C - I am in the same situation. You just never know where these guys are going sometimes. My brother and sister never left my parents with any doubt and all of us were out of the house on our own accord by the time we were 18 - 20. Couldn't wait to get out on our own - and the economy stunk then like it does now. Lousy job market.

Chief - you are relly enjoying this mayor thing eh?

Kurt - what is the soundboard for - a layout? I am behind on looking at past posts and may not catch up.

Don B - I know you were talking about operations at the club - but I didn't know the real rr's got a second lap! Smile,Wink, & Grin [swg]

Brutus - thanks!

Hope everyone has a great day!

Regards, Roy

Good Morning All !

Forgot to set the VCR last night for the train movies on TCM, Sigh [sigh]  Probably missed some really good movies.

J&J - Hope the recovery is coming along fine.  Maybe would be a good time for some additional planning or maybe some of those small detail kits while your recovering??

Roy - The Thomas event sounds like it was really rewarding!  And appreciated by many I'm sure.  Thomas undoubtedly has brought a whole generation to the discovery of trains and the hobby.  I will be thinking of all you at York, it stills seems it was a dream to me.  Say hi to George, the Mikado still has the prefferred location on the layout.  Even over the Big Boy.  Know you guys will have a great time.  (I'm not surprised about the sponsorship, you did, it would be totally within character for you.)

Sir James - That is such great news regarding the test.  I'm sure it won't be long and I'll have to follow suit.  Have a DR appt tomorrow, and just know she's going to say something like that or the reverse view camera exercise.  Not looking forward to the visit.

John - Where are you putting all that stuff!  Have you extended your layout across the street yet?  You've got to be running out of room.  BTW how is the Galloping Goose doing?  Havn't heard much about it.

Drew Welcome back!!!   Cooltech Glad to see you join us!!!  Just don't take these guys to seriously.  They all mean well, having a good time, and pretty good heads!!  BTW I'm the nice guy that everyone refers to.

Brutus if you could resist some of that Banilla urge, and head the other direction you would be able to find some real treats, Pina Colada, Margaritta, and much more.  Think about it!!!  Then try to concentrate on Banilla.

Doug - So have you decided yet on the B-day gift??  Maybe surprise her Friday night with a Dinner Mystery Theatre.  Check out Gourmet Detective on line, I think they have one in Chickago.

Fife - What's with the calves for York, THERE ARN'T ANY WOMEN THERE TO IMPRESS, JUST A BUNCH OF OLD GRAY HAIRED MEN WITH POT BELLIES.  I really wouldn't recommend wearing  shorts, speedos, or any of that type of stuff.  Long Pants !!!!!

Brent - Your STILL working in hyperspeed, you sure are making it rough on the rest of us, slow down on that activity list.  Maybe we need to pool together and send you over to the Chiefs to work on his plywood prairie.  (With all the painting experience all you would need to do is paint the prairie in the 4 basic colors so Carter could enjoy it.)

Wish I could keep going but got to get to work.  (I missed a bunch of you guys, but I'll be back)!

SURE LIKE THE DIRECTION THIS FORUM IS TAKING, REMINDS ME OF OLD TIMES !!

Fife to do that trip:

Depart BAL 8:07am - Arrive PHI 9:32am     $37.00
Depart PHI 12:42pm - Arrive PIT 8:05pm   $45.00
Depart PIT 5:45am - Arrive WAS 1:30pm   $42.00
Depart WAS 3:05pm - Arrive BAL 3:47pm   $14.00

Total per person = $178.00

This would have to be done as a two day trip, and times are for weekday travel.

Would definitely want to do this during the Summer.

Plan is to have as much of it operational by next weekend... then I'll slow down because I have to finish my last class for school... then it will be Summer time and Susie-Q already has a list a mile long... need to patch the holes in the wall from the latest project as well. Susie-Q really likes her kitchen sink light (not the searchlight car option) but I have to patch those holes then paint the wall. Should be done with that this weekend.

Brent, Amtrak advertising $78 to Wash DC from Chicago today in the Trib.

Don, I'm trying to convince the bride a new trolley would be a great birthday gift for her. Got instead a longer list this morn of possible presents. We're going to the Art Institute to look at... art I guess, then to an expensive fondue joint - with another couple for whom I think she expects me to pay LOL.

Roy:  Yup.  Small 4x8 Layout.  I finally was ready for a commitment, and am installing sound board, and permanent track, wiring, and ballast.  I ended up getting 'GP hush board'.  That's what they sold me....I hope it's the same.

Mike:  Prayers for you and your family.  I have 2- really little ones.  Just enrolled the oldest 3-yo, in soccer for the spring Pee Wee league.  I can only imagine, what I will be venturing into in the years to come.  Currently battling potty training wth 3-yo in readyness for going to pre-school.

Hey all,

Thanks for the "wb".  Yea Cooltech, were like neighbors, but we got darn big yards.  And Buckeye and the gang from Ohio, we just share yards.  And when Marty is not on the Left Coast, me and him sit at the same table.

Annyhow its good to be back.  Can I ask where Jim A is?

Anyone have a quick link to Chief's latest layout pics?  Last ones I saw were of his intermod. crane goin up.

Whats going on with the new Bachman by Williams O?  Good, bad, ugly? Cheap!

Talk at ya all later,

Good afternoon

DonB-the doppler appt is how I ended up with this other test, My MD is telling me "everything looks good" and then he drops the bombshell. Worst part is waiting and wondering "what if"..I found out yesterday at the test office from other victims that this is a new thing with doctors . now they want patients to do this once a year.  Of course at this point I am a very happy old man. but the wait was not fun....S.J.

Hello Gentlemen:

I am starting to feel a little bit better but the recovery is slow.  I have had a chance to catch up on the thread:

Brent:  I am sorry to hear that you are having back issues.  Obviously, I can empathize.  I have not been able to discern the specific problem.  What is the issue?  Sorry to hear about the headaches at school.  Lack of feedback sucks.  Is this your last class?

Mitch:  I am glad to hear that your dog is feeling better.  It appears progress continues to be made on the school.  Any updates on the staffing?

Doug:  Carefree AZ?  That sounds nice, especially given the weather we are having around here.  I hope you have a great time!  Congratulations on your brother tying the knot.  Honeymoon in Vegas...nice!

Laz:  I am happy to see that your safety record is still going.  Let me get this straight, you go fishing and when you get home, your wife has pizza and beer waiting????  Count your blessings.  If all goes well with my recovery, I hope to take my son fishing for the first time this summer.

Cheapclassics:  Now that they have started racing, what do you think of the combined IRL?

Don:  What do you think of DCS 4.0?  I have had limited opportunity to put it through its paces but it appears to be a real step forward.

Brutus:   You will love TMCC.  You will then want to get Legacy...explain that to the wife.  My surgery was a micro-discectomy.  I had a herniated disk that also had some of the "jelly" from the disk pushing into the sciatic nerve.  The surgery cleaned out the fluid and cut away the herniated portion of the disc.  While I am feeling no pain in my leg, I have to be really cautious to not reinjure the disk.

RT:  What is the status with the VA?

Jack:  Thanks for the kind words.  I am trying to take it one day at a time.  It is a long road to recovery but I hope to stay on course.

Roy:   Good luck to you ane your protege in Atlanta.  You are very generous.  Band trip meeting?  I hope they come up with a plan that doesn't make the parents drive 220 miles to pick up their kids. Wink [;)]

Lee:  Thank you for the kind words.  In my case, when you have part of a disk floating around your spine, you have reached the last resort.  How is the DCS upgrade coming along?

Don:  I am glad the operating session went well.  I like what you did and I had been trying to incorporate a little of that myself, on a much smaller scale.  I will second the motion for some video of the action.

Sir James:  I am glad the heart test went well.  Your heart probably has a lot less stress since you stopped running those MTH PS2 engines.  Wink [;)]

Greg:  Stay positive and keep busy.  Opportunity will come knocking when you least expect it.

Chief:  Thanks for the support.  You have to be the busiest small town mayor I have ever seen.  I hope you enjoy it, it seems to be a HUGE commitment.

Thanks again for everyone's kind words.

Regards,

John

John,
I was having normal 'for me' back pain. Kind of like if you strain it a bit too much, or sit for too long. I think the chiro said I had some 'compression' strain.

I've been going for two weeks now and next week will be my last having to go twice, after that it will be once per week for 4 weeks, then on an as needed basis.

One more class after this... 6.5 weeks and I'm D.... O.... N.... E....!!! Funny that the facilitator got the grades posted on Monday. Whistling [:-^]

Evenin' boys.  Pleasant & 73 here in the Mid-Atlantic region.  Cooked dogs and burgers on the grill, now fifey's-wifey is giving the dog a bath...just checked on her progress, she got a bath too.Laugh [(-D]

88 - Not bad prices, and I would want to stay at least one night at the Sheraton Station Square (Kelly loved the singing fountain) for drinkem-ups and train watching.  Definitely a summer time adventure.

brwebster - If you can set a day aside for railfanning, I know one or two doodles who would love to tag along.  Even if you attended the YORK show Saturday,  Enola Yards is only 15 minutes north on 83.  As long as it still is daylight savings, plenty of time to see a lot of action.

Brutus - I could shave my legs to make myself more aero, thus giving me a decided advantage over my fellow TCAers...good thinking.

BLAME IT ON SHAKE AND BAKE.  Woke up this AM with 101 fever.

He sent it secretly over the computer when he was sick.   Then like a computer virus, it pops its ugly head out and grabs you.  HAd a bad coughing spell last night and had to take several doses of codiene [Tussinuex].  Got up this AM and could not stay awake.  Did devotion, read one verse, go to sleep, wake up, read another and so on.  Getting dressed, one sock, sleep, another sock, sleep, one shoe, sleep and the other shoe.  Did make the 10AM meeting at Town Hall with lots of coffee.  Then this afternoon, beads of sweat poured from my head and my right eye turned red and stuck together.  Been on couch most of the evening.  Sure spoiled my plans.

Will get even.  Later

Chief you are to active, you need to take a day off now and then to relax and run them NS locosMy 2 cents [2c] Today I cut both my yards(front and back) and sisters yard as well. Mom had already cut hers before I could get around to it.Black Eye [B)]

List of things to do

1. Build rest of benchwork

2. Get oil change on both car and truck

3.move a couch down to train area before assembling bench work(4 tables)

Hi kurt! Tks. for welcome. Soundboard!! Oh I'm thinking of my music room.Smile [:)]

Well folks; as I've mentioned in past posts, been working on home office for the lovable Mrs. cooltech, Joanna. About 80% cleaned out and will require one sheet of drywall. Wood flooring cost...$0... unused by neighbor and was heading for the trash. I aquired it all.

Brutus, tks. for the link. Heading there next.     best to all.
