Well, it was an exciting day yesterday. You ever have one of those moments when God puts you in a particular place for a particular reason? One of our friends from Sunday School was having an operation. I had finished my heart case and just hung around for a little while...not sure why, but then I went to check on our friend and he was ashen. I had his pressure checked and it was way too low for comfort. Brought him back to surgery and found a clip had come off of a artery. We were able to give him back 7 units of his own blood, and his color returned. Just thinking of what would have happened if I was not lead to stay late and check. Normally, I don't like to do that, I check the day after as I don't want to interfere with anothers treatement.
Jack, as someone who lost two wonderful dogs in the last year, I know it is very difficult. Always tough. Something special about a dog...they come to you when you get home from work as if you are the greatest person in the world. Nothing can replace the love you and your wife have for the dogs you lost...keep their memory close.
God Bless,
Dennis

Good morning all,
It is cold and cloudy in SE Indiana with temps in the low 30s. Took it easy last night. Just got a haircut at the "barbershop", which is run by the same "saucy wench" who works in the kitchen. Reviewed the Christmas list for the kids and figured out which one of us was going to get what for who. Work was great yesterday and got a lot accomplished. I had the usual fare on the dining car this morning. I hope everyone has a good day.
Keep on training,
Mike C. from Indiana
Good Morning All
Cloudy and cold, in the 20s with a few snow flakes nothing expected to stay. I feel like I should still be in bed, can't stop yawning. I'm not sure what the day will bring so I'll just wait it out....TTFN S.J.

Mornin' boys. Mornin' English. Sunny & 39 here in the Mid-Atlantic region. S'posed to get pretty chilly this weekend, so me thinks me and the boy will string some lights outside this afternoon. Also may have to dip leaves out of pond and add some fresh water before I shut the spigots down.
dwiemer - Nice save, ol' chap. Good show!
P.S. **Buckeye** You asked me to remind you to pick up your cat...
Morning. Mike, I see your WIFE gave you a hair cut. [remember the saucy winch remark from pervious post] Snow flakes!!!!!!! About 5 flew by me yesterday on the way in to Raleigh. REB army chased it back up Nawth. Animal control came by and gave me a cage trap for a big yellow/orange tabby cat. Been raiding the bird feeders and killing birds. Saw him jump a squirrel at the bird feeder yesterday but could not hold on to it. Hungry. Feed him a can of sardines. Got trap set with some more. They will take him in. This is not a wild cat but adoptable. I have asked neighbors if he was theirs. No one claimes him. Been running around for several months. Loves to walk on my and Pam's windshield. Time for coffee and tenderloin biscuits. Cols is not as bad as I expected it woudl be this AM. Staying in right now a cloudy and cold. Suppose to be some sun out today. Got to get leaves up but they are still damp. That surprises me as wind blew so hard yesterday. Later.

Morning all. Slightly warmer in the 30s vs. teens yesterday. Looks like snow again. Glad you checked in with him, Dennis! Nice find, Ole. Busy day today - then a few days 'off' - not in the office, but keeping up. Have to take these vacation days or lose them.

A heartfelt thank you for all of your kind thoughts about our sudden loss of our two dogs. I am touched by the words from you, people I have never met in person. Time heals all wounds; and the sadness my wife and I feel will fade.
At my wife's suggestion, about 11 years ago we began volunteering at a shelter for Dobermans, doing everything and anything asked, to help care for the dogs. We were gradually promoted to add dog walking duty to our repertoire, on the back roads of rural New Hampshire. This would help the inmates burn off some energy, be socialized, and learn some basic obedience, all precursors for adoption. There were 50-75 dogs on site with many more in foster care. A no kill shelter.
What we witnessed working with these helpless creatures and learned from the staff was a bleak commentary on man's callous and cruel inhumanity toward his fellow beings.
But we also learned that positive change happens one person or one animal at a time. We adopted one and then, later, a second orphan. Through training and persistence, these two blossomed quickly into everything you and I would expect or wish for in a dog. They asked for so little and gave back so much, every day. Why can't people be that way?
I missed the (non-train) thread in the Forum about what we have to be thankful for this Thanksgiving. I am going to add my two cents. This holiday season I am thankful for the opportunity to help just one family member, one friend, one business associate, one neighbor, or one stranger as so many of you have done for others......and for me.
Jack
IF IT WON'T COME LOOSE BY TAPPING ON IT, DON'T TRY TO FORCE IT. USE A BIGGER HAMMER.
Well said, Jack. I found these flamingos - perfectly sized - browsing a bookstore during lunch yesterday.
Just turned the ole pc on ... cold out ... brrrrrr ... spitting snow . Was up late on the AMR / All Model Railroading site catching up . Hope everyone's fine and about ready for Santa . I guess we can still say santa ... that rabbi had all the stores not allowing " Merry Christmas " to be said . Thinking of doing a engine-engine hookup . Have to figure out how to keep one from pushing the other . Well Mery Christmas to all ... and God Bless ... pretty bad when one religion tries to take Christ out of Christmas for all of us . He's not going to do it here !!! I guess ole santa is next ...
Morning all!
Jack: Sorry to hear of your loss.
Dennis: Nice you were able to look in.
Thanksgiving, recovery from in-laws, Church.....Planned on attending train show Sunday with 3-yo...Bride says...uh.. 'how long do you plan on staying at the show????....I want to go out and get a tree, and get all the decorations up... today.' We managed to see everything in a couple of hours, and still have time for some Lego building, and get back home and get a tree. Only spent $2 for a music box with a train spinning around a bear...Daughter takes it wherever she goes. Finished decorating by 9:30pm...but I need to build a 'higher' stand for the trains, so 'the kids have more room under it to play'.
Managed to get the CPI car together...swapping Atlas 2-rail plastic trucks for 3-rail sprung trucks was a bit more involved than expected. Don: Thanks again for the Waybill! I still managed to screw something up...'text outside of printable area' kept clipping off the sides...All fixed, printed and shipped.

Dennis is a good Dr.
Frankie sent me an email. Said a show named Extreme Trains airs on the History Channel at 10 PM EST on Tuesdays. Are any of you aware of this? He has set his DVR [as he is on duty then] for this.
Getting ready to walk the trail and go up the sidewalk to the Credit Union and deposit a check. Then walk back. That will be good for the cold.
Later
I think it's great. I set up the DVR as well. The host is energetic for sure. The freight episode with the BNSF line was my favorite, right behind the coal drag NS. Good show for me since I don't know much about how trains actually operate. it looks great in HD too.
Wes
HI GYZ,
Hope all had a nice THANKSGIVING? Well went out DEER HUNTING yesterday with BRO, UNCLE, BIL and NEPHEW. Day started out sunny and ended sunny. The rest of day we had everytype of weather, snow, hail, rain, drizzle, and sleet. I think I got em all. Cold too. Well for the day me and BRO saw 3 tails and 3 grouse, and 50 turkeys. That was it NO DEER. Well we'll give it another try this weekend.
Anyway, at home over vacation got to go see 2 HO layouts. One in hometown of HAZLETON, Pa., that is modeled after everything in surrounding area, pretty cool layout. And one in JIM THOURP, Pa. They were also giving an hour train ride up and back to the LEHIGH RIVER GORGE. An hour trip was $12. They had READING SD 50s pulling 7 Heavey weights, and oh yea SANTA too.
JACK
Sorry GYZ,
JACK sorry about your dog. They are a BIG part of the family. When ours go, I'll be going to the pound to get another.

Yea I caught that extreme trains the last show by accident ... it's great ! Thanks for the heads up on when it's on regularily . Hey Laz ... man saw some real cool HO cars on a layout ... steam wrecking crane was one . Too darn bad O has'nt kept up with all the variety . Of what I saw I may have to get back into HO again also .
Good morning all, cooler weather here this week. Fires are all out I hope. The president of our local TCA division had to be evacuated during the recent fires in Southern California near Anaheim Hills. Fortunately his house was spared. I'm still fighting sore spot from my partial plate. Went to Dentist yesterday and got a temporary fix but problem is back today. Have to get prescription medicinal ointment for it today.
Chief, I had problems with a stray cat too years ago. In addition to walking on all the cars with dirty feet, he used to pee on shiny hubcaps on a travel trailer I had. It was funny, he would admire himself in the reflection of the hub caps, then pee on it. Guess he was marking his territory but he was rusting things out.
Our annual TCA Western Division Christmas party is coming up a week from Saturday. We will be raffling off a 1950 Lionel Hudson that people bought chances on. It's a pot luck lunch with club providing sandwiches and members bringing side dishes and deserts. I did'nt spend much time at Cal Stewart this year. Have to see how my friends made out there.
Trying to get motovated to put up Christmas stuff but the mood has'nt hit yet. Maybe if I wait long enough it will blow over. I don't mind that part as much as the shopping. Well anyway, the season is here. Ready or not!
Happy days,
Ray

Jack.....It has been over 20 years since we lost Molly's Maggee McGee, an Irish Setter who loved to run and play in the deep snow. I was away from home when she died suddenly, and I know exactly what you and your wife are feeling and it hurts. My deepest condolances.
Chief.....What cave have you been in? Everyone here in Ohio; Chuck, Wes, Tom, Greg, Steve, Dick and Harry knew about Extreme Trains being on the History Channel every Tuesday night at 10 o'clock and we all have our DVRs set to record the show so that we can discuss it the following days.
Laz....How many deer did you and your brother shoot at this year?

Tonite on the History Channel , Extreme Trains has a feature called.. Union Pacific's Ice Cold Express. A story about a Refrigeration train. DVR is set.
Good afternoon,
Watched the recordings of Extreme Trains, was driving back from GA, seems like a very good show.
While in GA got to see the new ethanol fuel plant near Camilla GA, has nice size railhead there as well and drove past the McDonald's chicken nugget processing plant at Flint GA.
Sunday was a little ruff weather wise down here, a few trees down and lots of branches and palm fronds down, electric knocked out for about three hours. Picked up a few tree branches in the yard today. Went to doctor this morning again, should be last time for a while.
At work another person let go, don't know what is going on anymore.

Chief, you must be really busy lately. I thought everybody on here knew about "extreme trains" by now. There has been a lot of chatter about it on this and other Forums. Some folks panned it mainly because the guy hosting the thing acts like he needs a valium to calm down. He gives new meaning to the term "foamers" when referring to railfans. However, I think it is worthwhile watching. I'm still waiting to see the one about circus trains. I saw the one about coal trains and another one about container trains from Los Angeles, Harbor to Fort Worth, Tx. I was very familiar with the harbor location on that one, having worked trains out of there before I retired from the Union Pacific.

Actually I have seen it before but let it slide. When at the lake house [Direct TV there] I catch great train shows on RFD-TV. Cough Cough Cough. A bit of a cold. Walked 5 miles today. No joke. Walked the Main Street trail to back parking lot, up the street to the State Employees CU and then back around the whole trail. Went to Town Hall and Rec Director, Town Manager and I went to the new Mill Bridge Nature Park [out newest park] and walked that trail and back. Visited the old mill site too. BTW: Town Manager is like syurp he is so sweet since I had the "Come to Jesus" meeting with him yesterday. Then I pulled an Executive Session for personel reasons and excused him. He is about to pee in his pants. Good management tool. Fed deer tonight. Walked to the spillway with Maglite. To my surprise it was not stopped up with pinestraw. Walked back to truck which was running with headlights on. When I got near the truck, I shined the maglite behind it and there was a deer standing 20 feet behind the tailgate. She looked at me, I gave the special whistle and she turned and walked into the edge of the woods and watched me put out the corn. Drove up a little ways and they all started coming out to eat with me out of the truck and shinning them. Got to go eat dinner. Later [cough cough cough]
I'll be taping tonite too. Since the BEST DARN COP SHOW EVER is over I have time to check it out. Thanks for the heads up.
OLE TIMER, I can't seem to see that little stuff in HO. Gotta stay with the O scale that little stuff would drive me nuts.
BUCKEYE, NO SHOOTING YET, maybe this weekend we'll give it heck again.
Hmm, I haven't been home Tues nights. I'll record it too. Sounds neat. Hope you feel better, Chief.
Good Evening All
Careful the chief is trying to cough on us. I just moved back away from the screen. Cold here 27 now, been that way all day. My train friend had nothing to report from the store said mostly christmas train cars and misc. Not very informitive today. Guess I'll just sit on the porch in the cold waiting for Brutus, banilla is ready..S.J.
Too cold for banilla, maybe some Hot Chocolate! Chief, hope you are feeling better soon. Have a good day off, Doug?
RIP Chewy - best dog I ever had.
