an early stop by before heading in.  Have a case this morning, but then I should be done early.  One of my Sunday School peps is having a operation today (not heart, so I'm not part).  Will check in on him and make sure all is well.  Still feeling the effects of the Crud.  Took some Dayquil and hoping I'll get through this morning OK.

Plan is to come home, take a nap and then get busy on the layout.  We have purchased all the Christmas presents for the kids, and I took care of the wife, so only extended family and friends, but those will be much easier.  It is a good feeling to get all this out of the way early.

Well, I hope that everyone has a great start to the week.  As the Sgt in Hill Street Blues would say "Let's be carefull out there"!

God Bless,

Dennis

Good morning all,

It was cold, cloudy and snowy in SE Indiana and I did not have to drive to work today (thank heaven for car pooling).  I took Lucas back to school yesterday early so he could redo a paper (long story).  Did get dad's HO layout done for the museum.  Now I just have to spruce up the standard gauge one and we will be ready to go.  If all goes well, we will have N, HO, S, O and standard gauge all represented at the exhibit and hopefully all gauges will have some trains running.  Watched "Desperate Housewives" last night.  It was good.  I had bran muffins and rice cereal for breakfast on the dining car this morning.  I hope everyone has a good day.

Keep on training,

Mike C.

Hey guys, Happy Thanksgiving and a warm welcome to the Holiday Season (MY favorite ttime of year!)

Jim-Phish:  Congratulations on your Deaconship!  May the Lord's Hand guide you.Angel

Chuck: Conga's on the train trip!!  Good to see you back at the throttle(s)!

Well, I cooked all day on Thanksgiving and it came out ok.  The turkey was a little dry, according to the masses (3) and so I just used extra gravy and salt.  Mashed potatoes, candied yams & corn.  Had a citrus fruit cup for starters and pumpkin & pecan pie for enders - with Redi-Whip!!!!

Our special sale on Friday was good, had dinner and out for the night.  Saturday I was at the LTS, worked on some G and O gauge stuff, brought home a GP7 Rock Island and a C&O Pacific for tested (both with RS & TMCC).  I may return the RI (sorry Jack), just has a few problems.  The C&O I may keep, will run it again later today.  Bought LED outside Christmas lights and will install tonight, as it RAINED all day yesterday.  Cleaned out the Train room a little and hung out with the family.

Up to 62 today, breezy.  Giants won yesterday and the Pens beat my Devils on Saturday....it's all good so far!!

Have a good day guys!
Rich

Good Morning Chief

Good Morning All

Well we got a break, must have been warm enough to stay rain. A little sloppy snow in the grass. However lots of snow around us but the roads are in good condition this AM. No breakfast yet, granny is at daughters sending kids off to school. I don't like her having to go each school morning but I was outvoted one to one. I'm not sure about today yet, my friend says nothing exciting going on at the store but I need to go soon, haven't been for awhile.  For some of you it's back to  work day, I will think about you and around here it's be glad your still working.  TTFN...S.J.

Good work Chuck !

Which was worse, going down the steps or coming back up ?  Clown

Doug....Going down was worse. One step at a time. Coming back up was a lot easier.

Oh, BTW.  Coffee Pot Interchange begins today.

Chief - Slip some milder temps in that package to Brent...Thumbs Up

doug-notta - I do covet that hotel...perhaps Santa will hook me up.

Morning all. First big snow today and the wind is blowing it horizontally. Lovely. Train was late. Bears stink.  Internet slower than molasses on a cold day (I like that line) as everyone in Chicago goes online to shop - - - I got an idea: I think the Pot needs an official chaplain. I nominate Jim Stur-Phish. Quick, let's approve it before he goes online today.  Highlight of the morning so far, seeing an old Lionel set used in a window display for a store that sells high-end fountain pens...

Good morning all,

I second your nomination, Doug M.  Since it has been moved and seconded, if there is no further discussion, let's go to the vote.  Since Doug M. started this, in his honor we will vote early and often.  The "ayes" have it.  It is official now, Jim Sturgeon Phish is now the official chaplin.  Some of you may say there was a little "railroading" involved, but after all this is a "train" forum.  Also, good to hear my fellow dining car patron is once again able to partake of his trains as well as breakfast.  Brutus, the beacon is lit and the zuchini bread is ready.

Keep on training,

Mike C.

Morning all.  Sunny and warmer [fifey] here but windy.  That is Ok.  Will remove all the leave left on the trees.  Then I can start getting them up tomorrow.  Busy day so will soon be out the door.  Had fried tenderloin biscuits, grits with gravy and coffee for breakfast.  Wife is home recopping from sore throat and etc.  Seems better now.   Have a great day.  God bless.

My apologies for disappearing from the Pot for the last two weeks.  It is said in literature that God won't give us more than we can handle.  Since my last post, my wife and I have lost both of our dogs, suddenly and without much warning.

Ten days ago Duke was diagnosed with an aggressive metastisized osteosarcoma.  None of the medical options held anything that would provide some semblance of comfort nor any reasonable quality time for him.  We made what we thought was the most loving and humane decision we could make and put him down one week ago today.  My wife and I were crushed.

Isabelle stopped eating after the loss of Duke which the vets attributed to dog mourning, but when she became lethargic on Thanksgiving, we rushed her to an emergency veterinary hospital.  She she was diagnosed with a rapidly advancing case of immune mediated hemolytic anemia, another sentence of death in the veterinarian world.  Her own immune system was attacking her red blood cells and her liver was overwhelmed, with no definitive cause nor any known cure.  On the spot, and within the span of 3 days, we again had to make the same terrible but humane choice.  She was just 3.

Last Friday for the first time in our married life my wife and I awakened without a dog in the house.  I realize that many may think that the loss of a dog isn't the worst thing that can happen in life.  It isn't.  But when your children and now grandchildren grew up with these faithful companions, to them and to us it is like losing a close and beloved member of the family.  I wish I knew how to console my wife and ease the pain.

Jack

Jack, Condolences to you and the rest of the family. They do become a member of the family, the only difference being more hair and two extra feet. After having to put down our last one I will not have another, the old adage "tis better to have loved and lost then to never have loved " is true but the attachment that one can develop is extremely hard to get over.

Jack, I'm so sorry to hear of the loss of your two pets.  We get attached to them just like members of our families and I know it is hard to lose them.  I had an old cat that made it to 20.  She grew up with my kids and it was the hardest thing I had to do to put her down when the time came.  I have not had any pets since.  The kids are grown now and my wife and I are retired.  Asside from the heartache you get from losing one, I'm afraid of the vet. cost nowadays.  I have enough trouble meeting my own health cost at this stage of life what with the advent of the "donut hole" in our so called drug coverage.  Hope you find a new puppy if you want one.  That helps a lot of people.

Jack - Angel

I know there is nothing else I can say to make it any better.  I, too, have lost a few pets in my lifetime and the pain is none the less severe.  It truely is like losing a loved one so close to you.  All they ask for is your love and in my case, the occational litter box cleaning.  My sympathies to you and your family.

Good afternoon all,

Jack, please accept my condolences on your losses.  A person can not help but become attached to them when they are here and they are missed when they are gone, especially when it is a sudden occurrence.

Keep on training,

Jack --  so very sorry to hear of your loss.  I lost one of my very best friends 5 years ago and I still miss him but he gave us almost 12 wonderful years as a tremendous guard dog plus a warm loving family guy.

I sent you an email that a good friend sent me 5 years ago.

Good afternoon all from wet cold Southern Ohio,

I’ve been busy all morning and just checked to see I’ve been voted official Chaplin.  That is what I get for being away from the pot.  Well, I humbly accept, I am honored to serve you.

Jack – Your post touches a lot of the folk here.  Several can identify with your sense of loss.  I took this pic on the day I had to put my best friend down in memory of her.  We miss the wet nose, the understanding when no one else understood, and their unconditional love is an example we could take note from.  I feel for your loss.

Rich – the gondola is in the mail.

Ole Timer – Way to go, you got a very sweet deal.

I’ll check back later

May God bless

Jim

Jack with great sadness I read your post . I'm an animal lover also and our cats are like children to us and when we lose one it is the hardest thing for us as we never had children of our own so they are our children literly. I wish I could help you and your wife cope with this great lost but I honestly believe in time the lord will find a way weather its you bringing in a pupy on christmas morning for her or what I wish you both the best

Jack - I truly believe that we will meet our pets again, God bless AngelAngel

Aye for the Chaplain!  Way to go JSP!

Mike, I will stop at your house first, last time I didn't get any!

Mike, Doug, Kurt, RT, Don, Laz, and of course Sir James - I think we need to set up a traveling layout on the Tardis, maybe up on the 4th floor so we can use the skylights?

Tomorrow night is band practice, then the next night is a concert, then the next night is girlscouts and then the family is going to KC for the weekend - busy busy!

Reading about train puzzles, some neat little tricks out there on the net!  Not sure how they would fit into a layout, but I see a lot of neat ideas and implementations people have done.

Banilla?

RIP Chewy - best dog I ever had.

Jack sorry for your loss, losing a pet is like losing a good friend who never judges you or stops coming around when times are tuff. I still miss my cat she was a saimese but kinda fat like garfield she was the second siamese I have had they are very sneaky mischivious characters lots of fun as kittens as they are both demanding of attention and yet independant at the same time. As for the myth that they are mean spirited that is on an individal personalities base as like people no two are exactly alike.

Jack, Sorry for your loss.  Up until 3 years ago we were never without at least one dog in the house since we got married 41 years ago.  Several times we have gone through the same thing that you are going through now.  Jean is still unsure if she wants to go through it again.

Ole Timer, Looks like you struck gold, I never luck out like that on ebay.

Well, sad news.  Jack, I am truly sorry.  Had to put down one big yellow lab, one poodle and two Peks.  Now Burg [lab mix] is moving slowly when he gets up.  One day.  Lucy has to be carried to and from the fence as she will suddenly go wild and run in the street.  Been missed 4 times.  27,000 cars a day.  It is hard.  Frankie lost his Sherrif to cancer last year.  He was only 3 years  old.  That is the thing with pets.  You usually out live them.  You say, "No more."  Then suddenly another one appears.  God bless.

Good news.  We lit the Town Christmas tree tonight.  Went well.  Now for popcorn.

Good night.  Sleep tight and don't let the bed bugs bite.  [think I have gotten a version of Pam's bug.  I had flu shot first of Oct.  She got it a week ago.  Been sick with sore throat, ear ache, fever and runny nose since Sat afternoon.  Hope mine is a weaker version.  Think Lucy is sick too].
