Thanksgiving meal was great. Wife slow cooked a ham with brown sugar. Turkey was as moist as we have ever had as well. Everything was great. It was nice to see the whole family together. Seems like it never happens often enough.
Jack and his cousin played with toys, and Jack showed her the "choo choos", and how to make them go forward and backward. Weird thing is that I had an MTH Buckeye Express parked on a siding with the remote off while Jack played conventional. The MTH started moving forward and ran into a Sante Fe coach car while they tried to share a switch...broke a coupler on the Sante Fe. I have no idea what caused it to start moving. Some combination of Jack hitting neutral and rocking the power on the Z-1000 transformer, I guess. Oh well, it was fun.
Hope everyone is enjoying the day. Going to go see who has put out christmas lights already...

The Buckeye express needed to stretch its legs a bit Mine is boxed up at the moment, the Buckeye corner has a Lionel OSU train set. I am hoping to get one for Christmas . There is also a Michigan set out there by Lionel and it has an 0-8-0 loco not the standard 4-4-2 starter loco.
I did not stuff myself but will have to work a little harder to keep off the pounds from this day.
Turkey, dressing with gravy, ham, butterbeans, turnip greens, turnips, devil eggs [4 halves], cherry cheese cake, dirt cake and sweet ice tea. Plop Plop Fizz Fizz, OH what a relief it is. Later.

Evening all!
Doug: Thanks for the head's up on the Lions...The TV was taken over for Hallmark channel... I got to watch the trouncing of the Hawks. It just doesn't feel like Thanksgiving without football.
Edit: I walked in to see the implied sex between teens scene, and voiced my displeasure to the Bride, and switched the channel. Boy, Hallmark sure looks different than when I was younger. I don't recommend leaving this channel on without supervision.
RT: 2-pumpkin, and 1-pecan pie...Still some left for me, for about a week!
Brutus: I'm in for tonight. I have a few leftovers, and a mostly full box of wine. Maybe we can time it so I can get home by the 5:00am Sears opening, and finish my Christmas shopping. Giving a lot of Gift Certificates from the credit card reward points.
Chief: Mmmmmm Dirt cake...??? Are you sure it wasn't color grits?
Ran trains with FiL...He's lovin' the cab-1. He said he had about 15 Lionel trains when he was younger, he gave to a cousin...I offered to repair them if he can still find them.

Hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving. We had a great diner at our Daughters with the rest of the family.
To bad about the Lions, Sad to see a once great team in such a condition. I watched the first half and had to quit. Must be terrible to be a member of that team.
A warm greeting from the Heartlands, a great day indeed. Spent a total of about 5 hours on the road visiting our DIL's parents home. They just moved to Cedar Rapids from Naperville, retired. They built a new home and have a wonderful media room, watched the Lions in HiDef on a 52" TV, I could used to that......... not the Lions, the HiDef.
Looking forward to a relaxing weekend, temps in the 50's tomorrow so the outside decorations will be a priority
Jon
So many roads, so little time.
Good Evening All
What a meal, everyone left without dessert. more for me, a little at a time.
Lions are the worst team I have ever seen, ever. thats why I enjoyed those sunday afternoon naps. I watch the first quarter and wake up in time for the two minute warning. perfect timing. Ok tired tonite but a short trip for banilla should do it for me....S.J.

Running a little late and the TARDIS will be sluggish with all the extra weight, but I'm on the (burp) way boys!
RIP Chewy - best dog I ever had.
Going to bed as soon as I call the "lesser" of this forum [Shake and Bake]. Good night. Sleep tight and don't let the bed bugs bite. BTW: world history may be in the making. Wife may not get up at 4 AM to go shopping by 5 AM on the day after Thanksgiving.
Evenin Ladies & Gents !
I am happy to say that the turkey came out perfect, even though it wasn't stuffed (kinda how I feel rite now). The maple syrup brine was great and really kept the bird from drying out, tender and moist. However I do not want to ever cook another one this way. Fortunately the broiler still worked in the old electric range so I was able to crisp-up the crockpot dressing otherwise it would have been to soggy for my taste. Must say, it did taste better than I thought it would.
Played trains with the grandson for a bit before the feast, the Christmas tree layout and he experimented with the TMCC ceiling track a little. Just loved the look on his face when he accidentally discovered how to change the the volume using the #1 & #4 buttons on the cab-1.
Eyelids getting heavy, time to fill up the coffee mug !
Memo to self: Absolute #1 item on morning agenda: Order New Stove !

Good evening all,
IIABSDISEI with temps near 50. We had a nice day with my sister's family, my dad, Lucas and his girlfriend. Lucas and her were a big help today with the meal and cleaning up. Got up later than I thought I would but managed to have all the housework done before everyone arrived while my wife cooked. Lucas did nice job yesterday getting the leaves up as well. Still a few to fall but not many. Plan to work tomorrow on my dad's HO layout for the musem. Hopefully get that done. Sounds like everybody had a good day.
Keep on training,
Mike C. from Indiana
Mornin' boys. Grey and chilly here in the Mid-Atlantic region. The only thing bad about eating elsewhere...no leftovers to pick at on Friday.
sir james - As I was watching the Lions being devowered, I kept noticing the stands getting emptier and emptier. As hard as it would be to root for them, it must be utter agony to be a Detroit season ticket holder. I'd be worried that the team would be moving...
Morning all. Lucas is doing great and that makes us happy. Remember several years ago!!!! Glad he is OK now.
Partly cloudy. Pam gone with sister [did not get up a 4 AM] shopping for a few minutes [hours probably]. Waiting to hit the road to the lake house. Got up early [Lucy alarm clock went off ]. Have a good one.
Definetly Black Friday here, Chris working, Mom going shopping. I need to go pick up a GPS system at Costco. Then spend the time in the train room. (They get back and it will be nap time for them.)
Working on a list of trains I'm going to get rid of. List is getting pretty big, more than I originally thought. Need space, its hard to run stuff on the layout too much idle stock, and shelves are full.
Going to go check out was is happening, talk more later.
Don
Morning all. Nice meal with friends. I preferred the turkey cooked in the electric roaster set up in the garage. Felt blessed to watch three football games - Detroit losing; Seattle losing; and Cardinals-Eagles - didn't see the end of that one but it wasn't pretty for the Cards. Pumpkin cheesecake for breakfast this morning - for the bride - not me, I'm so full I'm never eating again. Sorry I caused the Tardis to list to port last night. Daughter got up for 4 am sales - or rather I got up to get her up LOL. She left a note upon return saying she saw few deals. If she's not spending, then there is going to be something seriously wrong with the local economy. ;) I love today - nothing to do - 'cept maybe get out the Christmas stuff.

Sounds like the turkeys turned out OK. We had a good dinner also. Bride and daughters going shopping Can't figure that out. Low key around here. In 24 hours I will be ordained. I will put my car in the mail today because starting Dayshift Monday and the Post office will be closed. I took some parting shots for SPF. All take care and may God bless
Jim
Congratulations to Jim on his ordination as a deacon. I also echo Chief's comments about how great it truly is about Lucas...
Good Morning Chief
Good Morning All
Another overcast day, but above freezing. We got to see yesterdays Lions game because two local business' bought the unsold tickets. I came close on predicting the score,I said 14/50 so I only missed by two points. Still enjoying the thoughts of yesterdays meal, wife really hit the high mark fixing dinner. I think most of our little family are going to return today for leftovers, which is fine with me, it will reduce the amount of turkey suprise I will get after today. Trains later they need some exercise. Have a great day and stay away from those crazy women shoppers...S.J.
I think we can finally now bring the chief down to his knees I can take care of this no problem
Good news on Lucas and a lot of others lately and great big congrats to Jim Stur-Phish!!!!! Wife went out to nab a laptop at Walmart, but they were out of the Toshiba ones (we've had really good luck with those). Hers is slowly dying - I think it's the power supply, but I've never worked on one of these and it is so slow by current standards that it's just worth it to replace it. Mine cost half as much as hers and it's about 4 times better I think. I did my Friday shopping online last night after Midnight. Picked up 2 GB DDR2 PC2 5300 667 HZ memory for my laptop for $35 shipped - good deal!
Watching a Godzilla movie with my daughter and then I plan to run trains for a little bit and then drywall a wall. I haven't actually worked on the basement in well over a month now, just had too much other stuff going on.
Brutus,
If your wife is looking for a laptop, check out Best Buy. I bought a Compaq at Best Buy a few weeks ago and put it away until Christmas. Walmart seemed to have much higher prices than Best Buy. I bought Halo and Roller Coaster Tycoon 3 to go with it. Are there any other good games I should get?
Jim S.,
Congratulations on the ordination.
Good morning all, Thanksgiving dinner was great. Finally got my turkey thawed out in time for Thanksgiving. Took about 5 hours to cook that puppy at 325 degrees. Wrapper said 4 hours but we had to go the extra hour to get the internal temp up to 180. Nobody got sick so I guess it was a sucess. Did'nt get to bed until almost 2:00AM. Lower partial giving me a problem. Tried to get dentist office this morning but they were closed for the holiday week end. These things always happen on a week end.. Saw all the ads in paper for early shopping. Some stores opened at midnight last night and others at 4:00AM. Took a pass on all that madness and decided to wait until they are all starving then I will go shopping. Besides, I don't need much that I can't live without. I woould like to get a digital camera so I can take layout pictures etc. but have to get educated before I buy. I'm not looking to go back to photography 101. I did a lot of learning with conventional cameras and don't need that again. Probably just a point and shoot style camera. I would like to be able to shoot using available light with time exposures instead of a flash that tends to wash out some train pictures. Kodak makes some affordable cameras but they don't have slow shutter speeds below one half a second. Happy Holidays,
Ray

Hey JimT -- pick up The Orange Box, you won't regret it! Great games, even if you never played the original versions of Half-Life. I had already beat HL2 and HL2.1 on my old desktop and I got the set for less than the cost of Portal and Ep2 alone, so it was worth it to get the package.
Our wireless printer/server never worked with my Vista computer (or, it only worked on the rare occasions that the IP address accidentally matched the one when I first installed it on this laptop). So, today I spent a couple hours plus redoing the wireless printer server to use a fixed IP, then doing the firewall stuff and now I've got it all working - yay! Now, it will work properly for my wife. She's the one who is usually printing stuff out.
Now, I've got a "hair appointment at the salon" coming up and don't want to be late for my beauty appointment, so ttfn!
Great job, Brutus. That stuff drives me nuts. Looks like it might be a loooong appointment.
As already stated "Congratulations to Jim on his ordination as a deacon."
Doug--I enjoyed your comment about cooking the turkey in a roaster in the garage, we've been blessed with that meal a few times when we've been away, talk about moist. That was our turkey yesterday, wonderful.
We normally stay away from shopping today but we did venture out and it was wonderful. I've never been treated so well as a customer, kinda nice for a change. Maybe with the economy being in the dumper retail will treat us as valued customers once again. I tried to buy a big ticket item locally, I really want our town to flourish but when there is a $350 difference I chose to drive 15 minutes to Des Moines and make my purchase, I hate doing that but money comes to hard to this household.
SPMan - Your best bet for a camera would be a DSLR. Many of the new models have the option of point and shoot, full auto, or for various settings such as the timed exposures. With cost of many primium point and shoot pocket models you could get a good DSLR with a basic telephoto 20mm +/- to 70mm +/- and still have the option of other lens in the future.
IIABSDISEI with temps in the 40s. Got the roadbed and track fastened down on HO layout and made some test runs with an engine and some cars. Every time I am tempted to get back into HO even a little, days like these remind me of why I left it behind. My nephew and two nieces helped me a little with the roadbed and track. Lucas, my wife and I got the outside lights up today while it was still nice. Trains came today and had some nice articles in it. I had bran muffins on the dining car for breakfast this morning. Thanks for all the nice comments about Lucas. I hope everyone has a good day.
Too full even for banilla, well almost. I could probably force some down. It was forty today but I don't think we have seen the sun in a week, and we are not going to if the forecasters are right. Finished CTT today and even the Flyer layout was custom built. On to other things, the Hogwarts X made a few laps today, I know I run it often but I like it. And there's a 773 on the next track if I want a change. I will wander along so everyone have a great tomorrow....S.J.
