Happy B-DayHappy Birthday, JohnHappy B-Day

A RECORD COLD today here in Paradise 29 at the airport, 35 at 7:45 at the ol' homestead.  Had a great review and my boss & I really see eye to eye on the everyday and expansion projects.  My FREE LUNCH was great, had roast beef mashed potatoes and corn at Cracker Barrell with corn bread.  YUM!! Very productive meeting,

Didn't get into the train room except to get the lap top, and even then, got nothing accomplished.  Got home VERY late and even missed the Extreme Trains episode.  Bummer....I think it'll be on Sunday anyway.

Need to get some items on the 'Bay, was supposed to do that Sunday (and Monday and Tuesday...Whistling)  Maybe tonight, as I don't have to cook din din.

Stay warm and see ya inna bit...

Morning all. V. cold here too. Thanks for the comments on my Tardis driving. I tried to keep 'er level so that TV reception was fine and no drinks were spilled. Thank goodness for the gimballed gyroscopic stabilizers when flying over Roseyville. Decided to put CAP over Baker Field and Fortner Yard this morning. You never know... Happy B-Day John!

Good Morning from cloudy cool (30°F) Southern Ohio.

Finally getting a day off.  Got a little Christmas project I want to make and start refurbishing a 593 Station I acquired.  It is structurally great but with bad paint, so it will be a strip and repaint.

John F – Happy Birthday

JeffPo – A lot of the time the fly boys from Rickenbacker will come south and use the rural area around here for simulated runs and aerial attacks and dogfights.  It can be quite a show.  One time I was in a tree stand on top of a ridge when a F-15  (I think) flew over at tree top level.  First the sight then the sound, WOW, almost had to come out of the stand to clean up.

Mike C – What is CASA ?

Buckeye – SOAP (Southern Ohio Air Patrol) is in the air and on watch!

May God bless

Jim

Good morning,

A little chilly in what should be sunny south Florida, about 52 degrees now with an overnight near 47.

Working on some outdoor projects as the heat has gone away and the chilly weather makes it easier to work outside. Cleared some of the fence line of overgrown weeds that look like trees, used a sawzall on them, even cut down some FL holley with a 12 inch demolition blade. Got my racoon proof project finished & no more night buffets for the racoon at my place, let somebody else feed him!

Yesterday I helped my friend with his layout and 022 switches, routed the track for a return loop. Repaired some switches that were not working correctly, had to solder a connection inside the base of the 022 switch housing.

Sold my K-Line Golden State passenger set with Lionel Santa Fe diesels last week.

At work they are trying to cut our hours back a little and will let anybody that asks to go home early from their shift if they are not needed.

Gas prices near $2.15 a gallon. Food prices still up there, hopefully the food prices will come down too in a week or two.

Good Morning all !

We had a interesting evening, Family Meeting !  When I was working last weekend, found out one of the other vendors had died of a massive heart attack, since the last show.  Was relatively young as well.  Of course that got me to thinking, so as a result.

We are starting to plan our vacation for next summer.  Given that it is November, should be enough time.  But, even if not what are savings for anyway?

So we are planning a road trip, for about 2-3 weeks.  Going to go to Niagra, then see the Statue of Liberty, possibly go through DC, then meander back west.  Everyone is allready looking forward to it.

The only bad thing is, it will kill my hopes of getting to York next fall.  But that's OK.

So better get to work, and try to make an extra dollar.

Hope everyone has a great day!!

Happy Birthday John, hope it's a GREAT day.

Took the boss to the airport early this AM, she will be roughing it in LaJolla, CA for 3 days meeting with clients who winter there.  About 5 minutes after I dropped her off she called me and told me to come back and get her winter coat, guess you don't need winter coats in southern Cauli-forn-ya Cool  Hope she has to go back in January as I will be in need of some warm weather.

Don B., good call on making a family vacation plan, remember on your way back west there are some great train displays you should see, one super one not far from our home on I 80.  I am also making plans for my son and I to head out to Yellowstone & Tetons and then head back through Mt. Rushmore & the Badlands, I have books and maps out right now planning our time.  Here's a pic he took of me when we were on top of the world last June---Rocky Mt. National Park in CO--Trail Ridge Road, elevation 12090 ft.  That day was one of the best 5 days of my life.

Will be very quiet around here for a few days, maybe I can get something done I enjoy.

Sigh  I think I caught a cold flying in the open cockpit and carrying all those snow bombs.   I haven't heard a damage report, but it should be extensive.

Jon....Why are you staying in cold Iowa this week?  BTW, you did not mention Glacier National Park and it is the best for a motorcycle unless you drive off the cliffs.

Chuck....When you get a chance would you check out the damage in Roseyville?

Buckeye---I know, I know, I was invited to come along on this trip and actually considered it but I need to get to St. Paul soon (Friday ?) and get back before I 35 becomes exciting, I think you know what I mean.  The other thing and probably the most important factor is that we'll be Las Vegas in about 3 weeks for a long birthday weekend and HOPEFULLY in the Florida Keys in late Feb. so I bit the bullet on today's trip to save a few $$$ for upcoming trips.  Glacier National Park is on the short list as is Alaska and that whole Grand Canyon area.   So many roads, so little time................

RT, we did send positive feedback to the seller and sent them an E mail also letting them know that we got it.  I'm surprised that the item got here in one piece because it was mailed in just a mailing bag with a small amount of bubble wrap inside.  The box was a little mashed but the contents were OK.  I know the seller was not at fault for the longer than usual delivery but personally, I would never ship anything like that by parcel post if I were the seller.  As for pictures, sorry I don't have a digital camera but you can see a picture of one one E Bay.  There are several of them for sale there.  Just search for Walt Disney World Train Station.  I saw one of these pictured on the other Forum a while back too but can't remember the title of the post.  It might have been on their Week End Photo section.   Have a good day

Happy B'Day John !!!!!!

Jon, We lived in Grand Lake, the western entrance to the park, some years back. It was beautiful up there but working 24/7 for about seven months of the year got really old really quick. If you go up that way again check out the old road, original portion prior to the newer paved one, that goes from around the visitor center on the top to Estes Park. It's all gravel with lots of switch backs and very primitive but beautiful, it's also only one way from the top down.

If by some stroke of luck you come out this way in Jan give a holler, we'll set you up with some run time at the museum.

Let's see how much discussion I get on this.  I know there's been some discussions before, but its usually about service problems.

I'm finally going to bite the bullet and get satallite TV, even with the converter boxes I can't get the digital signals from Atlanta, too far.  My main interest is the basic channels, ABC, FOX, etc.  (Now for the fun)   I'd appreciate some opinions on Dirtec TV vs. Dish Network.

Thanks in advance.

Evenin' boys.  Sunny and 37 here in the Mid-Atlantic region.  Glad I have my own insulation.

JOhn F ---> Happy B-DayHappy B-DayHappy B-Day

Jeffpo - Cool pic.  BTW, are we putting that "old" layout to use?

Jonadel - Looked like a fun trip.

dbaker - When you visit Niagra Falls, everything is on the Canade side.  Had a fabulous stay at the Marriott Fallsview.  When you skirt across NY, drive into Vermont, and stay at the Trapp Family Lodge in Stowe.  Again, worth every penny.

Roger B - traded in my Comcast for DISH Network a couple years ago.  It includes all the local channels, as well as Sirius Music.  I got suckered into the package with all the premium channels...and I can't bring myself to give them up.  As it worked out, about $15 more than "basic" cable.

Well in my use of them I seemed to have move of a problem with dish getting them to fix something . I didn't have a problem with the direct tv to fix a problem. In fact lightng hit my unit and fried it and my tv I got a new tv at walmart and instead of cancling my service with them as they wanted a me to buy a unit at first I told them I would just goto cable they real quick offered to give me a new unit if I stayed with them lol.

Both thou are crooks as is the cable company lol.

I'm still thinking of going back with them when my year is up as my cost here will about double to keep the cable I need to see if A.T.&T. has internet up yet here first thou. But I still have till June something I believe.

Got HD and DVR Time Warner here.  Direct-TV at the lake.  Direct-TV is not good on their billing.  Called me and said you need to pay.  Where is my bill?  Had wrong address.  Sending you statement to correct address.  No statement yet.  Been emailing back and forth today with someone and special price offered is not being billed correctly.  About to turn them into AG's office when this lady apoligized and got it right [I think].  Let her know I saved all emails for future "reference".  Not impressed at all.

Cold here.  Deer fed.  Now for rest and popcorn.

We love living in the country with no neighbors, clear/bright nights/no noise/lots of wildlife (although I could live without the Hosta munching deer)/high speed broadband/ but we are stuck with DirecTV with no other options.  Whenever I call in with a question or complaint it's like talking with a 3rd world country but in actuality, it's Georgia........ sorry Dennis.

Hello from that third world country of Georgia (just kidding JON), no problem.  Regarding Direct TV.  It is much cheaper than Mediacom cable.  Mediacom had wanted me to pay for the cable to be run up the street, then to the house...High $$$.  I had Mediacom when we lived in Columbus, poor service, bad picture, and every time I turned, they upped the price.  Now with Direct TV, I get all the channels I am interested in (history HD, RFD-TV, and a few others).  Some of the issues as stated earlier:  with a heavy storm, the signal does go out.  Good part about a DVR, if the storm messes up your watching, just set the program for the next time it is on (2am), and watch it when you want.  They have had a few issues lately in which you need to set the reset button, but it is still not bad.  With our LCD TV, we get fantastic picture quality.  While we don't have local channels, you can purchase access to those for $5.00 extra per month.  Since we are in the 3rd world, not interested in local news.  In fact, we don't watch any news and few other programs.

Well, we had  a long day as I had to do a couple of cases on my own.  My partner was handling a emergency case, so we were both on the busy side today.  Finally got home and trying to relax.  I am tired as I started the day off at 0130.  Picked up a few extra sternal wires that we didn't need on one of the cases.  These are stainless steel wires, 18" long and about the same gauge as the handrails on some Post War engines.  I am sure I'll find a use for them.

Heard from some friends who went to see the movie this week.  It is in it's 8th week and has grossed over 30 Million.  I doubt it will be in theaters too much longer as some big movies are moving in for the holiday season.  Besides, before too long, it will be out on DVD.  It has been fun, but certainly humbling as God tends to use people in their weekness.  As good as the movie has done, we must be pretty weak....just kidding.  Is great to see Him work though.

God Bless,

Dennis

Buckeye Riveter

Wow!! GASOLINE at $1.58 per gallon in Buckeyeland. Wow!!

The lowest price I have seen is $1.79 here in Stark County, Snohio.

The mind boggles when I think about how much different our economy would be if the "insane" prices for fuel had never happened.
