Don, that's good to know. Hope the AGHR is spared.

Howdy guys, back from our day trip to Columbia, MO. I used to live there, but we didn't have time for sightseeing. Wife had a lot of family reunion time and the memorial service was not too long. Ran into heavy traffic at rush hour on the way home, so we stopped for dinner and then got something sweet at the Cheesecake Factory
RIP Chewy - best dog I ever had.
GOOD EVENING ALL
Cold here, Roads froze during the wee hours of morning causing our first major bumper tag morning. One death, the man was in an accident, thrown from his car and hit by another. no seat belt on. Freeze was not expected so no road crews were ready to go out until almost rush hour. We just had a few flurries here. No trains today but did do some mag. reading and expecting Charlie tomorrow nite for a few laps if he can make it.
Brutus I'm tired of winter come and take us some place warm tonite. Banilla is waiting....S.J.

Thanks to everyone for the congrats! Baby due in June, so going to York this spring to buy new trains seems reasonable. I'll ask Mrs. Buckeye what she thinks. (Leaves room for five minutes and then returns.) Her answer is "No way are you going to York in April to buy more trains. What is Roy's phone number so I can give him a piece of my mind!"
fifedog....Assignments over the years have taken me to Paradise, Michigan where the bell for the Fitz is on display. Worth the trip! You stand there and look out over Lake Superior and just imagine the storm on that November night. When I first heard the news of the sinking on the car radio, I thought, well they will find survivors, that ship is huge. (Great lakes freighters are 600-1000 feet long and draft full at around 30 feet. )
Jon....I never asked but when you rode the bike around Superior did you ever see the waves crash on the rocks north of the Soo? It is an awesome sight. I have been on the west end of the locks and had the spray freeze and then hit me like shards of glass.
Tomorrow I need to make a phone call. I received an anonymous tip about a certain Mayor bribing the local building officials with hooch to overlook extensive remodeling. Well it could be worse. The state employees in Cleveland were bribed with free fishing trips..........Wait a minute, wasn't a certain well known Mayor going to the new lake house to go fishing?
Laz.....I'm might pack my SIL's and my golf clubs for my trip east if it is supposed to be warm.

Good evening all,
IIABSDISEI with temps in the 40s. Took the day off to make it a four day weekend. Worked on getting my layout and an HO layout using my dad's 1960s era Plasticville buildings ready for the annual historical society exhibit. Last few years we have had O, Standard, and even a small N scale layout, but no HO and we could really use one. Spent some time in Second Life and did some financial work as well. The "saucy wench" fixed a cinnamon butter braid bread for breakfast on the dining car this morning. It was delicious. I will even have some for the Tardis run tonight. I hope everyone has a good day.
Keep on training,
Mike C. from Indiana

Doug, it's all in good fun. I even told Oliver North that one and survived. Just gotta be done in the right sense of humor. When you show all due respect, they know you don't mean anything bad. Speaking of RESPECT, I should end this with my most sincere respect for all who have served, and those who continue to serve in the defense of this nation.....THANK YOU!
God Bless and have a wonderful Veteran's Day!

SJ- count me in for tomorrow. I have a Dr's appt at 5:45...that should put me to your place around 7ish.
Kurt- Are you a big GT fan? or just a fan of double doors?
Charlie a.k.a. MichiganRailRoad714 (Charter Member TTC)
Shhhh, Mike - keep it down on the ead-bray! I'll pick you up first On the way!
Morning!
First of all: Veterans: Thank You for serving, and keeping US safe! Job well done!
MichRR714: Can't say I'm a fan, but that's what roared past my cousins house when I'd stay with them in northern Indiana. Tracks were about 2-houses down. I saw mostly hoppers then. I just have a fondness for the GT, and the GT double doors. Great news on getting the beacon rotating!
Dennis: Great tip on the Modern Marvels Locomotives show on the History Channel! Only saw bits and pieces, making dinner, and qualling running/screaming children...Great to see them assemble a diesel.

NOVEMBER 11, 2008 - Veterans Day
Our heartfelt thanks go out to those that have served their country and remember those that have sacrificed all.
Good morning from sunny and slightly chilly central North Carolina. Wee bit of frost this morning, but not too bad.
Thanks to all the veterans! Nice image of a battleship. I toured the Iowa for a day back in my Navy days, but never went out to sea.
Haven't been out here in a LONG time. Just too busy with life. But I picked up a K-Line GG-1 at a train show this weekend so now I'm getting the fever again.

Good Morning all from Overcast Southern Ohio
Buckeye – The bride and I have been to that museum. Really nice. I stood on the beach where are you are talking and had similar thoughts.
Dennis – I saw the Modern Marvels segment on locos. Really good and interesting.
Going to church and do an acceptance walk down with the crew who installed the new heating system.
May God bless
Jim
Even though our country is far from perfect, it's still the best place on the planet to live. I can't imagine where we would be without our Vet's. To those that made the ultimate sacrifice, Thank You from the bottom of our hearts for keeping us free. Your memory lives on.
Jon
So many roads, so little time.
Good Morning All
A great start for the morning, The kitchen sink drain pipe came off for what reason I will never know but anyway we have a whole heap of water under there. My wife has most things in pullout plastic boxes so most of the water is in them.
Buckeye, congrats, sorry I missed it yesterday. After the baby's born you won't see much of Mrs. Buckeye. Just take my word for it.
Ok THANKS to the Vets and enjoy your day...S.J.
Thank You Veterans!! Your Sacrifice Makes our FREEDOMS possible!
I have my flag out today, as should we all.
Seems like I have family from all the branches covered:
Dad: USN (Ret), 2 Brothers (USMC Ret.), 1 Brother (USA, active), Godfather & Uncle (USN, Ret), God-daughter (USAF, Ret), Cousin (USCG, Ret.)
Sunny and breezy this November 11, up to 72. Tomorrow up to 85 (ok sure, we'll see).
Dennis, I also caught the Locomotives on History, saw 1st half hour at lunch and the last 15 minutes while cooking dinner. I thought i was very interesting and can't wait for Extreme Trains tonight.
That Battleship looks like the USS New Jersey alright. She's now docked in Camden, NJ, just waiting to turn those big guns on Philly (in case of invasion, of course ).
Slow day at work, time for housekeeping and cleaning. Nothing coming in, so catch up time.
Nothing really happining, just checking in. If I remember anything or anybody I've forgotten, I check back later!
Rich

41 degrees and raining in St. Louis. Got a call from insurance yesterday (the other guy's insurance) and they will pay to fix truck. Called a local place that was on their list and I can drop it off for an hour or so and get the paperwork and estimate done. They think they will be able to fix it Monday. Told them I want the frame, alignment, and exhaust all checked for damage too. We were going to go out and do Christmas shopping today, since kids have school but we are both off work. But, my wife woke up with a big headache. Oh well. I'd also like to get a haircut and pick up the Hellboy II dvd. We'll see - at this rate the day is apparently just going to be blown.
Oh, son has B-ball practice beginning tonight, but it's not until 8PM

Morning all. Thank you forumite veterans. I remember seeing the New Jersey go through the Gatun Locks in the Canal Zone on her way to Asia back in the late sixties. It was a lot warmer there than it is today in Chicago. Had an early morn doc checkup - gotta go back in a week. Great way to start the day getting blood drawn. Glad they're taking care of the truck, Brutus. New mystery light on the Toyota's dash. Should just be a dollar sign. I'll try to take it in later this week.
Doug Murphy 'We few, we happy few, we band of brothers...' Henry V.
Thanks Doug, hope the dollar sign goes off without any problems, just an oil change.... I guess that when it rains, it pours.
God bless our Vets. Thanks!
Guess I'll go sit at the auto place, wife has headache.
A SALUTE TO OUR VETERANS!
I have just joined the crud club, on day #5 with no sign of it tailing off. Was just informed by Verizon that I will have no land line phones until 6PM THURSDAY. Seems like today is a Verizon holiday and they are backed up (or cracked up, I didn't quite hear it). Problem is allegedly between the street and the house, their problem. Why do we need land line phones anyway?
Re the Iowa class ships, my father was held over to mid 1946 after WWII, essential personnel or something like that. The extended tour took him to China, and he later got a ride on the USS Missouri, making a run between San Diego and San Francisco! Re the wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald and the Great Lakes ore boats, my Dad used to work on them back in the 1930's when he ran out of money to go to school. Wher is the Missouri parked now?
Mitch.......congrats on the "boy's first official job." What makes you think you are off the financial hook? Silly you.
DougM.......I had the same issue with the fridge ice cube maker and the water line. My hardwood floor was destroyed. Replaced the copper with plastic flex tubing. When my dishwasher let go, and the floor cupped. When the garbage disposal let go, more damage. And when the washing machine hose split, I was nearby and got to the shutoff in time. Keep those valves turned off when not in use. Replaced the rubber hoses with the flex metal ones. If ever there is a problem, you get a pinhole leak instead of a guyser. Re White Castles, aren't there a bunch of them in Chicago still? I remember one off of Elston and Crawford (Pulaski).
Brutus......did I miss it, or did the Paintball Wizzard fail to show? Sorry to hear about your being rear ended. Do you get a loaner car while yours truck is laid up?
RT......Gloucester is in NE Taxachusetts. Used to be the fishing capitol of the US. The Gloucester in VA must be a phony. There's a standing joke around here that there are a lot of drunks in Gloucester who think they are fishermen. Seriously, you can't imagine a harder life. Add in all of the fishing restrictions, and it's nearly impossible to make a living at commercial fishing any more up this way.
Kurt......any time my wife helps with something like yard work, it becomes a nightmare. She'll play with the leaf blower and build Mt. Everest, then complain I'm not picking them up fast enough. Or she'll buy about 100 annuals in the Spring and complain I'm not digging and deboning the holes fast enough. New England= 30 rocks for every shovelful of dirt. Once the beds are clear of rocks, they return the following Spring. I swear the rocks must keep coming from China or something. Been deboning those flower beds for 20 years.
Fife......Wifey doesn't have her driver's license? Hire it done and save your marraige. What makes you think you can teach her without her getting really teed off at you about your attitude and tone of voice (terror!)?
Buckeye......congratulations on your upcoming grandfatherhood. You and the wife must be excited, and I like the train recommendations made by others. If you are Buckeye, and Baby Buckeye told you about the grandchild, what will you call the grandchild?
MikeC......got also got nailed by Roto Rooter for $300 about 3 weeks ago. The guy makes more than a rocket scientist or neuro surgeon. I feel your pain.
Laz......I started out shooting at about 10. Father had the stocks cut down for me and a permanent rubber pad fitted, in retrospect ruined the stock once I had grown. But I could manage the large gauges. Ever try buying one of those slip over stock pads or wear a shoulder pad?
Dennis.....Christmas trees up two weeks before Thanksgiving? Boy are you out in front! There must be a train story soon to follow.
Rich......what became of the long lost HD? Or did I miss the final outcome?
Wes and Buckeye.......glad to hear both of you will be coming off of injured reserve shortly. Chuck, did you ever make it down to the train room yet?
Read with some trepidation Jon and Sir James early confrontations with winter weather. That's sad, though I did get my snowblower back from some repairs this week, so I'm armed and ready.
Later Gang,
Jack
IF IT WON'T COME LOOSE BY TAPPING ON IT, DON'T TRY TO FORCE IT. USE A BIGGER HAMMER.
I think Big Mo is docked in Pearl Harbor. There are still White Castles all over the place in your old home state. One just a few blocks from home. Yum.Appropos of nothing, I picked up three rocks of the Chicago and North Western's famous 'pink lady' ballast that were mysteriously on the passenger platform of my inbound station this morning (instead of carrying them all day and night, I returned them to my car - to join its fellow rock on the layout somewhere tonight. This ballast (of pink / purple color) is from a particular Wisconsin quarry and apparently still used by the UP.
Jack, I am sure the trains will be around the tree this weekend. Regarding the Missouri, I believe she is at Pearl as a museum. RT, isn't the Wisconsin like 4 feet longer than the others after her drydock following that turret explosion? My memory is not as good as it once was, but I think that was the case.
Not much going on today. Had a bit of paperwork to handle. Son was ill this morning, so he didn't go to school. I have a few things to get to, then I'll head home, hopefully not having to return tonight.
Has anyone heard from His Honor? Is Lucy OK?
Got my OGR yesterday, so perhaps I'll spend a few moments with that while I wait around here.
God Bless,
Happy Veterans day
Thank you for your service to all Veterans and Service men and women.
Jack - The HOG still resides at the dealer. They can't duplicate the problem, but of course, all they do is start it and let it idle then shut it off. I TOLD them to RIDE it, as it is too dangerous for me to be out puttin' on my scoot and then having to call my friendly tow truck guy to come get it. That was Thursday...and still no call back. But no charge to me-----yet. I'm considering speaking to the GM of the dealership and moving up a notch. The Service guy showed me a 2002 883 Sportster, but I needed a 1200 and moving down just ain't gonna happen..

I used to go the White Castle around Elston, Kedzie, and Addison. Load up on a few cases of Sliders. Then took them back to my soon to be father-in-law.who began to think I was worth something, so he let me hang around his daughter. He is the gruff type that hated all of his only child/daughter's boy friends.....except for me. Bribery was alive and well in Chicago.

Dennis the U.S.S. Wisconsin is 4 feet longer than the rest supposedly as back in the 40's she had a collision with another ship in a very foggy sea. The Kentucky was still in dry dock being built they scrapped her and took her nose and put it on the front of the Wisconsin and thus the joke The Wisconsin is the longest battleship as it reaches from Kentucky to Wisconsin. I t had nothin to do with its turret which I think you may be mistaking the turet explosin durning the gulf war on the U.S.S. Iowa BB-61 she I believe was scrapped after that or at least she id sitting in moth balls persay.
Here's my last contribution for Veterans Day as one can never say thank you enough to our Vets. I hope you will take three minutes and enjoy the music and photo's, very poignant to say the least.
Jack - the two errant children are supposed to come to my house and scrub the siding the first day the temp is 60 or more, which I think will be this Thursday? My wife will have to provide them with buckets of soapy water and nylon brushes so they can be done while the sun is still up after school. I'll call the parents when I'm sure of the temp and weather. This was agreed upon between the parents and I over the weekend. Got the estimate and paperwork done on the truck. I'll drop it off next Monday morning after dropping the kids at school. They will give me a rental for a couple days while it is fixed up. I noticed an unrelated scratch on the front of the truck. I need to have someone tell me how to touch that up so that it all blends together. I have some touch up paint, but don't want it to show when I'm done.
I hope everyone is having a good day today. So far out of "my" weekend, extended by this federal holiday and the day off yesterday for a funeral in another city, I have not done anything that I wanted to do since Friday. I hope the rest of the week is a lot better.
