DBaker, I went to the AGHR open house yesterday and see what you were talking about now regarding the new scenery work with the "red rock" wall. I went down with a couple of my train buddies and we had a nice day thanks to Mr. John P. who was kind enough to treat us to an Italian sausage sandwich. We also rode the Pacific Electric Trolley on the San Pedro Water Front. Also visited the N gauge club next door to AGHR. Man my eyes are too old for that stuff. If I dropped an engine, I would never find it. They must have had enough track in there to duplicate the line all the way from L.A. to San Francisco. Not much to do today. Just church this morning and reclinerizing this afternoon. Going to do some projects one of these days.

JIM,
Neat little gun there, I was hooked on finding a Winchester model 42, that is the same as a model 12 but in 410 gauge. Great little guns only about 100,000 were made but now at gun shows the lowest in ideal condition is going for about 1300 bucks.
Also I think when you are older you seem to focus a bit more when you have a target that is moving. I know I seem to keep my head down on the bead instead of looking over it at the target. I watched alot of TOM KNAPP shooting all sorts of birds with the camera mount on the barrel showing the leads and that has really helped my shooting.

Well, it was quite an afternoon. Ended up getting all the Christmas Decorations out of the attic and brought down stairs. Set up main Christmas Tree and wife and kids decorated. Lots of things that make noise around now. I will be setting up the trains around the tree soon. On a bad note, one of the rubbermaid totes had some water on top of the lid. I will call the roofers tomorrow to arrange for them to inspect the roof. much rather head off trouble while it is small.
After evening church, took care of some odds and ends that the bride wanted. Since it was so late, I picked up some Krystals (like White Castles) and bride and I did some sliders. OOOOOHHHHH my belly! Anyway, Laz and Jim, I have a good number of shotguns. Some of my favorites are my Browning Side by Side 12ga, and a Citori 20ga Side by Side. I also have a 20ga over under that can really smoke em, but I need to get the firing pins taken care of on that one. These are some of the more expensive weapons and you don't want to trust them to just anyone to work on them. It is amazing the craftsmanship that went into building these.
Well, I am off to bed, so hope everyone has a great night.

Man, love the shooting talk, I'll have to get my Dad to take me out shooting again soon. He reloads his ammo and refurbishes old M1's and other like guns, then trades them in for more stuff to fix really.
Had a big dinner at my folks tonight - lasagna, salad and cake, but still have room for some banilla!
Gonna run up to Columbia MO tomorrow morning for a funeral, then back home, hope before the bad rush hour gets here. Checked out truck and there was some damage to right rear panel where bumper pushed up and in and some piant rubbed off the back gate where it meets the panel, so that will have to be fixed as well. Had to call the guy's insurance twice to get the claim put in. Guess they will be calling while we are driving around tomorrow. Hope I can get it fixed soon! The guy was really nice and it's a shame he hit me, but that's the way it goes. Just feel like it's been one thing after another for the past few days, hope things settle down for a while.
Tardis is ready and I can see a lot of beacons, especially one that is really really bright near Sir James' house!
Oh, PS - CONGRATS BUCKEYE!!!
RIP Chewy - best dog I ever had.
Evening all!
Beautiful day here today - so spent the entire day outside digging out the overgrown beds in front of the house. In my infinite wisdom I decided since the shovels were out that I would replant a valve housing for the sprinkler system cutoff that was sticking too high out of the ground. Got it pulled and was digging around it when water starts shouting out everywhere. I have no idea what I hit and it took a few minutes to locate which valve to cut things off (city has locked the main supply valves so the homeowner cannot access it anymore). Turns out the spinkler valve has a pressure relief valve that was buried and I had no idea that it was there - so I knocked it off. Good news is I had everything to fix it - nice that it was all copper pipe and easy to solder - just took some time to clean and drain the hole.
Buckeye - congratulations on being a grandpa - that means trains for grandbaby buckeye - you should get them soon to make sure they work properly. Thus you will need to come to York next spring to make sure you get good deals!
Brutus - sorry about your troubles there - but at least they are manageable.
Dennis - its too early for Christmas stuff?
Wes - good to see you are getting around better - especially since you can get Buckeye to take you to lunch!
Hope everyone has a great day tomorrow!
Regards, Roy
Happy Grampa day to Buckeye.......or should we call him Gramps
One section of wood putty needs redone as the mix was not quite right and chips when I try to sand it..oh well it is not that big of a section so no big deal, may be able to start painting by Tuesday.
SWSBO is taking me for a light lunch today,
Three more days on med's and then normal nosh Friday, maybe a sample of Robinsons in the evening.
Our idiots are trying to bring in legislation to prevent teenagers getting drunk by denying access to swig for the lot of us. Reminds me of prohibition. The numpties don't realise that most of these kids are high on other things that are cheaper. I tried a couple of joints once and was sozzled on a few drags, an easy way of getting stiffened without the pleasure of good company-pointless.
Found Roseyville on MSN Maps, lost the Chiefs address so didn't find the pond etc..
Taking delivery of a new ERNI dedicated to Train Simulator with no net connection etc., means XP service packs and upgrades can be kept under control, as they apparently screw with the Sim' software.
I am intending putting Lionel out fo ra few days during the coming unpleasantness, might string a few fairy lights as well but not for another six weeks.

GOOD MORNING
Cold with sno# flakes. A few on the ground, of course it messed up morning traffic big time. I have no plans for the day, yet. But got two mags to read, read some articles from each and don't know when I will finish either. Enjoy your Monday...S.J.

HI GYZ,
Cold this morning at 34 to get to 49? The dreaded Parent Teacher conferences today. I gotta go in today from 1-830 so not too bad. I will be doing some building of an end table because No ONE comes to see shop teachers.
DENNIS, BRUTUS, Great gun talk. Love shooting em and looking at em. JIM, are they the Garands your DAD refurbishes or the Carbines? Both guns are bringing in BIG BUCKs. Seems at the gun shows they have been steadily climbing.
Good morning - 27 degrees in St. Louis. Laz, he works on the M1 Garands. They are pretty good shooting. I have no idea of the money involved. A buddy at work has a side business and gave me a flyer on a sale on sig sauers the other day, but I don't have any gun money now, too much other stuff going on. Plus, I can always use my Dad's for free!
No flakes here, but I'm glad my son thought to drain the base of the basketball pole!
Gotta go get ready for a short trip and funeral. Should be home by dinner time. Hope all have a good day.
Ps - thanks Roy, it's just a lot of stuff in a short space of time, but God is good and see us through.
Hey guys,
It was in the low 50's this AM, up to 76 today and the sun is out!!
Dennis, I avoided getting the Chrismas stuff down until next Sunday, I put all the Halloween things away, though.
Saturday did a little "redecorating" in the LTS, Getting alot of Lionel Christmas items this week, so I had to get the shelving ready for the delivery. We got a K-Line NYC Hudson (I think) with TMCC. Just before I left, we tested the Railsounds...WOW!!!! Has lanterns and spotlight on the rear (all light up), sounds are awesome!! He's getting another (I think I may be the next owner of this one...). Hope to do a test of it next Saturday. I'll report back...
Sunday went to IHOP for breakfast with Mrs Devil and then made the rounds to Home Depot, Michaels, Garden Ridge and Target. Purchased a Michaels Exclusive Dance and Arts Studio, which I will rename for my daughter and put in on the layout. All the LeMax at Garden Ridge and Michaels are 50% off, so this one cost me $25. Did one last section of the layout with grass, now to finish it off with "asphalt" or brick...later on. Took a quick run to ACE hardware and found a LeMax train statoin for $21, but I passed for now, as it's Chrismas gift shopping time. Watched my Giants beat the Eagles last night, so I was up late. 8-1 now. Devils fell to the Red Wings Saturday and Edmonton Sunday. This is not a happy thing.....
Anyone doing Train to Work Day? I'm finalizing the layout and hope to build this weekend.
Back at work today, things are messed up as usual, so I'm off. Have a great one!
Rich

Morning all. 29 degrees this morning in Chicago - feels like 20 with the lake 'breeze'. Funny to think I was in shirt-sleeves a week ago. Got a call last night from a buddy - told him I was in the middle of something and I'd call right back - turns out he and his family were stranded with a dead battery out in the dark. I was so mad at myself - told him he should've called right back. Ended up replacing the battery in a nice cold rain. They don't make 'em easy to get at these days. I came home to the youngest running trains. The 248 was hung up on a curve at full power and Percy's front coupler was snapped off (again). I must be using the wrong glue. Something to work on this week.Congratulations, Buckeye on being a g'pa. Kurt, sorry about hexing your dishwasher. Definitely Murphy's law. I don't mind the hand-washing when it's hard to find something for less than $500 delivered. Jon, too bad you didn't get to go to Caboose Hobbies - agree about the glories of live theatre. Ray, sounds like a good train day. Doug, hope you don't have something more serious - my bride had pneumonia for a while without knowing it. Laz, I like the shooting talk too. Scouting was my introduction to firearms. Loved target shooting with a .22. Tried black-powder too. It's been a long time. Too bad about the Bears... Roy, the daughter is interested in a school in Ft. Worth - Texas Wesleyan, of course, it's 1,016 miles away... Ever hear of it? Rich, what do you think of the 'new' Blackhawks? They are quite the resurgent club in this town - marketing-wise.

Morning!
Buckeye: Congratulations!
Morning off to a slooooowww start...in bed at 9:00pm, and up at1:30am...couldn't sleep.
Dennis, Laz Brutus: I have been a pistol fan for awhile, but don't go out to shoot...everyone here just hunts. Father stopped by earlier this year, and handed me a '69 Winchester commorative 30-06...Commorating the Golden spike! Never fired...so I guess I'm not firing that one.Have you seen the new GrandPower K100? Very cool, as the barrel rotates to pick-up the next round. Been looking into .22 target pistols, medium to long barrels, but alas...the trains are eating up that budget...
My main interest lies with the DWM 9mm Lugers.
Kurt
Unfinished Business:
Buckeye: Congas to the new Grampa!
Doug: Yeah, been watching the Hawks from afar. Good young team. Hope they make the playoffs, that coaching change SOOOO early in the season was (and still is puzzling....). Very exciting to watch, I'll be getting the NHL package in mid season (when the price goes down and the games REALLY matter).
Guns? nothing like a 40 Cal I always say....when you want to give the VERY best
Be back soon...
Rich, I didn't get the coaching change either. I still liked fired coach Dennis Savard's rant last season about 'Commit to the Indian.'Almost forgot, happy birthday to the jarheads among us. 233 years.
Good Morning !!!
Congratulations Buckeye, what great NEWS !!
Most will probably already know but, the History Channel will be starting and 8 Episode series on Extreme Trains on Tuesday. Some they have identified is the Acela, Ringling Bros, UP Refrigeration, and tomorrow NS Coal train.
Brutus really glad that no one was hurt!!! All the other is just incidental, hope your luck changes soon.
Dougdagrump - I havn't wanted to admit it, but I think I have had a relapse as well. I remember the Dr saying when I was going through #2, that it wasn't uncommon for 3 bouts with this junk. But #3 hasn't been as bad as #2 was.
SPMan - Glad you got an opportunity to see AGHR, the Guys down there are a real good crew. John P has done a "LOT" for that club. If it wasn't for him it wouldn't be there. And, to think he has to commute about 120 miles per trip! Bob Armstrong keeps the place running daily, and PhillyJeff is a riot. I really feel bad about not participating anymore. The Operations group I started was really going well. I had hoped they would continue with it, but no one has stepped up. And, I just don't feel comfortable running my stuff there. Just too much blind area, and on a good day DCS is barely running. Hopefully it will all work itself out. I hope so! (BTW - I will be going to Cal-Stewart, hopefully will run into you!)
Dennis - If the tree and stuff goes up now, when does it come down? My mom used to put everything up the day after Thanksgiving, and it was ALWAYS down before New Years. One year it came down Christmas night! I had hoped to have gotten all our outside stuff down this past weekend, but didn't quite make it. Still have 1 more coat of black paint on the reindeer, and some miscellaneous touch up. Gettin Close!!
Roy - I don't understand when as busy as you are, you get a day off and go outside and plant a shovel in a sprinkler pipe! Just to fix it. Ahhhhh maybe some Ridalin??? Sure am glad I'm a "B" type person.
John B - Are the outgoing shipping costs as expensive as the incoming ones? I always thought it was the incoming customs fees that drove it up so much.
Also, we had SNOW in the local mountains this past weekend!!! It was windy here yesterday, coming from the Northwest. Maybe I woke Kevin up the other day.
FINALLY, AS A REMINDER, SINCE TOMORROW IS VETERANS DAY, A KIND WORD OR GREETING WOULD BE A GOOD THING !!!
Hope everyone has a great Day !!
Don
Good Morning from beautiful Southern Ohio
It is 50°F and sunny. I am off today and some little projects planned. Went and gave blood this morning, the tech recommended I drink more fluid and less coffee so I picked up some Sam Adams for medicinal proposes of course.
Buckeye – CONGRATUALTIONS!!! When you going to post a pic?
Dennis – you have some mighty fine selection of weapons there.
Jim F – I used to reload quite a bit. I really liked using high brass slug casing for reloads. Took the crimp really well several times.
Laz Jim Dennis, - I once shot a M1 Garand and I think it was called a Tanker model. As I remember it was a few inches shorter. I remember the “pling” when empty.
Don – Christmas décor starts at the beginning of Advent here at home and progresses steadily for a couple of weeks and comes down mid January.
All take care and may God bless
Jim
DBaker48 Don, Yes John is a super guy and the king pin down there I think. I read some worrisome news in the Times today about the City of San Pedro looking to build a new school at Fort McArthur and tearing down the old buildings. I don't know if they would take the whole place or what but the future of AGHR might be in question. I hope not.
Ray,
Pretty much to the efforts of coordination by Bob Armstrong. He has worked with the curator of the Fort McArthur Museum and historical society, and the AGHR building has been put on a list of historical buildings, and will be exempt from that process. I believe the backside of the hill there is quite a bit of land owned by LAUSD. That will probably be the area. There is a old gun battery located in that area that they are trying to secure. The whole development and preservation thing has been a major issue. The federal govt was very restrictive when the land was turned over to LA.
Even though it was a bit brisk, I walked about 2 miles down to the Adler planetarium because I've never been and today was one of the now-rare free days. The highlight was watching a few Metra (formerly IC) Electric and South Shore trains on their way to Randolph St. Station.
Evenin' boys. Evenin' English. Brrrrrrrr! Any word from Hiz Honor...?
Today is a maritime anniversary...anybody?
Buckeye - Congrats!!! Great news!
I guess you can call 233 years of 'Marine' life a maritime anniversary.
Nope, sorry. Put your hand down Mr Murphy.
Yeah Jim, I have an M1 Garand too. After 8 rounds, Plink! the bad guys picked up on that and would charge when they knew you were out....then our guys got smart and started throwing empty clips on the ground with a full one in the weapon. I also have a number of others, including a collection of mausers and some custom guns. All this to say, don't fear the guy with a lot of guns, fear the guy with only 1 who really knows how to use it!
Wonder what Lucy will face when a certain mayor returns....
Hey Fife, wanna have some fun with a Marine?....When they identify themselves as a Marine, you say "Oh, you were a squid!", which will be followed by some choice words and complete denial. To which you say, "what was written on your paycheck..... Department of the Navy". Just make sure you are either armed, or can run fast.
dennis
You are a brave man, Dennis. OK, Fife-y, second guess. Let's see, knowing Fife, it's probably some disaster. Hmmm, Titanic sank in April. Gosh, I should remember this: Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald... evening of 10 November, 1975.
WOW!!! I think Doug is right!! Other than the USMC anniversary (today marks 4 years here at the green "e"), I can think of no other maritime deal today.
Dennis - I won't try that when I get to see my brothers (retired Uncle Sam's Misguided Children), even though I am the oldest of the bunch, I really don't like the sight of my own blood....but my Dad may stand up for me, he was a squid (21 years).
Work day is done, I have to pick up the princess from her friends house. Dance for after school was cancelled and tomorrow is a Fed Holiday....no school but, I'll be here, however. Make sure you display your US Flag.
See later!
Ding Ding Ding!
