Happy B-Day Jimbo.  I think whoever sends that freight car to you ought to load it up with some "Just For Men."  You are looking a little grey there; how old IS that avatar picture anyway?  Have fun on your B-Day cleaning paintball paint off your house on your day off.  Sad  And remember to get the dosage right for the ExLax you put in the offending kid's hot chocolate, served just before he goes home  Big Smile

Good mornig all,

IIABSDISEI for perhaps the last time in quite a while (at least with warm weather).  Took advantage of the situation last night and did leaves for about an hour.  It is better to do that while it is 70 and dry instead of 40 and wet.  I was working in my shorts and a T-shirt, but it sure was dusty.  Brutus, congrats on the birthday.  In your honor, I'll drive the Tardis tonight.  I had the regular fare on the dining car this morning.  I hope everyone has a good day.

Keep on training,

Morning all.  Lucy woke me up again.  No wet nose anymore.  She just lays her head on my neck for a hug.  She is still chewing Mom's shoes [who is terrible about leaving shoes all over the house].  But Mom is not that upset as she owns more shoes than Macys. Shock  Well, breakfast to cook and then a few things to do here before loading up pancake compresser, nailers and etc to head to the lake.  Burg and I are going today [hope to get there early afternoon and fish] and Mom and Lucy coming tomorrow afternoon.  Mom has Chritsmas open houses tours tomorrow.  Yes, Christmas!!!  It has not been Thanksgiving yet.  Will be back Tuesday night if all goes well.  BTW: someone posted a word I am not too familiar with.  SNOW????  Middle to high 70's today, warm tomorrow and cool 68 around Monday.  Freeze those Yanks. Big Smile [some crazy error screen poped up but the post was saved, they still have bugs]

Mornin' boys.  Mornin' English.  Sunny & 63 in what might be not only the prettiest day of fall, but of the year.

Brutus ---->Happy B-Day

All righty then.  Looks like I'm getting some good feedback on the Coffee Pot Interchange program.  I've given this a lot of thought, so here's the standards:

A)  You have to be a poster in good standing.  Since this is the first time we are trying this, I want folks to feel comfortable with where their equipment is headed.  For some of you folks who would like to read and not post, perhaps now is a good time to walk in the door and chat a spell.

B) You gotta have a layout.  Preferably something that will be up at least for the duration of this interchange.  If all you have is a Christmas platform, that's fine too, just understand you are being asked to have it up at least once a month for posting on SPF.  Annnnnd, it should have some scenery.  Even if it's just a two foot area, the idea is to have the interchange cars "passing through" some type of setting.  If you don't currently have a pike, but get one up and running before we are through, we can always "reroute" some of the cars your way.

C) Each participant will contribute one piece of rolling stock.  We will be tracking the progress of each car as it heads cross-country.  The car should be something equated with yourself. (Example I used: my "signature" car on my layout is LIONEL's 9600 series Hi-Cube boxcar.  And since I model predominantly Chessie, I will be sending out my #9600 Chessie boxcar.)  No cabooses.  Oh, and once the rolling stock is in interchange, it's out-and-about to until the journey is through.

D) On the first day of the month, participants will "route" the "intercahnge" car to the next closest participant.  Once I have a list of members who want to do this, I will map all the destinations, and we will decide how we want to "forward" the car (USPS, UPS, FedEx).

E) Participants will be asked to post one picture incorporating the interchange car on Sunday Photo Fun during that month.  It can be within a train, part of a scene, just somewhere on the layout.  Don't wanna see any pics with my boxcar laying on your pillow dressed in a nighty...eh-eh.

If you want to play along, send me a PM (include your address and email please) and I'll coordinate this event.

If things go smoothly, we might open it for ROUND II.Wink

Now it is there.  Thanks Bergie.  Went to never never land and he retrieved it.  Thanks

If you post and get a message that it has to have administrative approval [has happened a couple of times to some], let bergie know.  Not suppose to be doing that.

It's 34 degrees and snowing here in Minneapolis this morning.  Made for a great commute into work - NOT!

Going to go see the Rockettes tomorrow with the family and then over to Macy's to see the holiday display

... that should make up for the snow!

One thing about trains: It doesn't matter where they’re going. What matters is deciding to get on.

You look good for your age......Whistling

Stopped in for work this fine AM, get some people working....no one here has a clue but me for some reasonWhistling.

Was in the train room for a bit last night and this AM, had to cook dinner 3 different times - feels like shift change.  Daughter was hungry at 5:30, son didn't get home until 7:30 and sat down and ate with wife at 8:30.  I cooked hot dogs and hamburgers, as it was easier on me!!

I'm out to check on the HOG, loaded for bear (not YOUR bear LazSmile,Wink, & Grin) got Jacks Dobies with me just in case.  Then off to Michaels, armed with coupons then to Hobby Lobby with more coupons.  Maybe to Garden Ridge special sale this weekend, may have to look.

I have to clean out the bedroom later, too much junk laying around, them maybe the train room could use a little more order.

FIFE - You have a PM!!!

OK boys, make it a great day..!

Rich.......I probably should have given you the secret hand signal for the big boy, Doberman Duke.  The hand signal is very subtle, but he replicates the attack Doberman frenzy on the hand command.  Wife and I thought it would be a hoot to teach him, and he loves to be worked.  He learned the hand signal in about two days......getting him to just bark was easy, but getting him to ratchet it up 8 notches took a little more work.  Plus if either of us use our left hand instead of the right, he just sits there with this "Wrong hand, you dummy" look on his face and does nothing.  The good thing is he does it and stops, will continue only if given the command again.

Smile,Wink, & GrinHELP!!!!!!!!!!!

This is the place for "off trains" topics, so here goes.  Have any of you ever had to have an automobile alloy wheel refinished or repaired?  What was your experience?  Did the new finish hold up?  Match the other wheels?

I just bought locally 4 new tires from a large tire dealer and had them install them on 18" factory alloy rims.  3 of the wheels were gouged and damaged pretty good (to me) sometime during the dismounting, mounting, balancing, and front end alignment process.  The tire dealer has committed to having the 3 wheels totally refinished, but using his outsource rim specialist and not one of my choosing.  Meanwhile, my car dealer collision center quoted me about $880 each for new wheels and $350 each for refurbished/refinished. Sad Banged Head

I have to decide whether I should go to war with the tire dealer and insist on my choice, or just take the offer and let tire dealer's outsource rim specialist do the refinishing and see what the outcome is.  On a related note, if I decide to go the war route and want to use my auto insurance coverage, the first $1,000 (deductible) comes out of my pocket.  And don't tell me to take my Dobermans in there to negotiate with the guy. Smile,Wink, & Grin

Any advice?  Your experience?  Thanks.

Fife:  PM'd yew.

Jack:  If they damaged the rims, they should pay for them.  Not just refinish.  Maybe you need to call the insurance guys, and ask what they're allowance is for the rims, minus depreciation, and get their opinion on the next step.  I have not seen a refinished rim.

I would be more concerned about the inside of the rims, if the outside looks damaged there's a good chance the inside is also damaged.  New rims are the ONLY way to go, not worth taking the chance, they have insurance--make 'em use theirs, not yours.  What happens in 6 months or a year if something happens?  They will adamantly deny wrongdoing at that point.

Hello,

I am relatively new to the forum. I have been quiet and every now and then I check out the posts  here. Last January I made the "mistake" of purchasing my 5 year old Grandson the Harry Potter Lionel set. The quotes around mistake are there for a reason. Since I was not overly impressed with the small circle of Fastrack from the set I purchased more track and switches and different curve sections. I think most of you veterans know where this all led. I now have untold numbers of rolling stock, diesels and steam locomotives. I now am constantly looking on the web at shops and ebay trying to find anything that will go with our layout in the rough. This is like an addiction. I have tried to narrow my engines to the western N.Y. area where we are from. It is an addiction that I can live with ( my wallet might not think so) as it gives my Grandson's(another arrived this spring) and I tremendous enjoyment.

Jack,

I agree with Jon. A while back, I noticed I was slowly leaking air from one of my alloy wheels, requiring me to add some air about once a week. Thinking I had picked up a nail in the tire, I took it in, and after dunking it in water, my tire guy could find no evidence of a leak. However, upon closer inspection, he noticed a small dent on the inner rim of the wheel (probably caused by a pot hole). This small dent was just large enough to cause an intermittent break the air seal, when the wheel would bounce while driving.

I ended up buying a used rim of the same style from a wheel shop that thoroughly tested the replacement rim at higher than normal tire pressure, before installing it. No more leak.

If you let them resurface the wheels, insist that they also test them thoroughly afterward.

Jack - I feel your pain.  I'd get an agreement in writing with the shop to allow their source to fix the rim to your specific ( again in writing) satisfication. cosmetic, truness match of finish etc. criteria with the understanding in writing that if the finishedproduct does not meet your written and agreed upon satisfaction criteria, they pay to have the rims fixed at the shop of your choice.

Kurt and Gee Wizzer........the meaning of a sentence can change significantly on a single word.  Like the word "hiding."  We never "hide" our train purchases.  We just "store" our train purchases and conveniently forget to mention them to the significant other.  Just like they do to us.  But they have the added advantage: we never notice when they do pull their stuff out of "storage." Evening to All -

It is a happy day here in Mitchie-land.  The BOY has a real official JOB!  Got the notice by phone and the offer was sent out by FEDEX Overnight.  Happy Day, Happy Day.  Once he is completely off of Dad's payroll I envision the Train Budget increasing somewhat.

Hello,

I am relatively new to the forum. I have been quiet and every now and then I check out the posts  here. Last January I made the "mistake" of purchasing my 5 year old Grandson the Harry Potter Lionel set. The quotes around mistake are there for a reason. It is an addiction that I can live with ( my wallet might not think so) as it gives my Grandson's(another arrived this spring) and I tremendous enjoyment.

Okay lets look at this post step by step and we'll help you word your thoughts correctly.

"Last January I made the "mistake" of purchasing my 5 year old Grandson the Harry Potter Lionel set.

Last January I made a great purchase for my grandson a Harry Potter Lionel Set.

Since I was not overly impressed with the small circle of Fas track from the set I purchased more track and switches and different curve sections.

Since my grandson wasn't impressed with the small circle I had to correct that problem for him as its only the best for my grandson so I purchased some more track switches and curve sections.

I now have untold numbers of rolling stock, diesels and steam locomotives.

Since the grandson needed more track and all we added more engines and cars for his enjoyment as didn't want my grandson disappointed and theres now another has been delivered this past spring Grand paw needs to get some more as I need to have enough for the 2 of them.

Now with those corrections as others will also help you get your wording correct you will be on the way to a nice railroad in your place for your grand children to observe grand-paw run for them as those tiny fingers are to small yet and just think of all the time you have to practice to get it right for when they do come over to observeWhistling

Anyway make sure the 3 of you have a grand time and keep us posted as we are always interested in new developments
