 Evening All !!

Hope all the pain, suffering, and discomforts are short lived.  (Sounds trite but sincerly sent, didn't want to leave out anyone.)

Still battling the affects of a cold, I think its lessening, and did get through the weekend.  We actually had a real busy day on Saturday.  Made the time go buy quickly, and was actually worth while.  Did find time to checkout a vendor who was selling spy cameras.  He had one that was like a fountain pen.  The lens was where the clip is, push the button and its a recorder.  Then unscrew the bottom and its actually recording directly to a flash drive.  Sure could see getting in a lot of trouble with something like that.  I did buy a small wireless camera to mount on a flat car.  It is color, with audio, will broadcast up to 60'.  Runs on 9v battery, or can be connected to roller pickup.  (I have an adapter for that.)  Comes complete with receiver, and plugs into any monitor, tv, etc., via RCA connectors.  Cost $69.

Then got home Sat. eve., and there was a message to call a young man who used to work for us.  He was going to college at the time, and was just getting burned out, and liked the success with the job, and the money he was making.  So thought he would quit school.  I told him if he did I would fire him.  So we ended spend a lot of time together, and he was also kind of a mentor for my son, I would like to think in a small way I may have helped him get to where he is today.  Anyway, his Dad passed last Friday of a severe heart attack (56), they currently live in Texas.  Andy moved there, bought a house, and this his parents, and sisters family followed, each buying their own home.  So, Andy was extremely distraught and I ended up talking with him on the phone for over 2 hours.  It was difficult to say the least.  I tried to leave him with the thought, "Don't try to replace your Dad, just try to do what your Dad would have wanted YOU to do".  He was convinced he has to "fill" the void.  Difficult.

Sunday was a bit slower, and I was at the show by myself, so I wasn't very disappointed with that.  Jay Leno was sponsoring a "Love Ride" that ended at the fairgrounds, tons and tons of people and bikes in the area, significant congestion.  I think last year they earned over $20m.

So now actually have about 3 weekends off, I think.  So will get back to preparation work on the Christmas decorations.  Can't believe all the weather going on back there, and it isn't even Halloween yet.  Hope its not an early indication of a hard winter.

Couple of the guys at the train club have been asking if I would come to the next meeting, but I don't plan on it.  Seems 1 or 2 others have decided they don't like all the tunnels, either.  But the issues is, they complain to me about it then when the meeting comes around don't have an opinion to express.  So let them figure it out, I don't need the frustration.

Got the CTT today, there's a number of articles I'm looking forward to.  Also behind on the Trains magazine, really enjoy the articles in there, its fantastic.

Well hope everyone has a great day tomorrow.

Later

 Morning to all,

Just a quick note.  Weather is turning: rainy, cold and blustery. Been busy with work.  This weekend is the big dedication ceremony at the school.  After this event, the "new" is officially over.

Take care.

Elliot was the original person who suggested I run this thread continuously.  I was doing a new one each morning, at first.  There was Elliot, Buckeye and Tom P. here when I got on.  Then it grew.  You could check in all day and not get but two or three posts on the whole forum.  Had a "spurt" when OGR announced they were going to charge for their forum usage.  As soon as they got that settled [found sponsors], the gang jumped right back over to OGR.   Visited Elliot and Tammy when I was in his town doing a Cabela's Grand Opening in Rogers, MN.  Great people.  Had monster layout going in basement.

Chief..........I remember those days very well, but I remember Laz was there too.  I used to have the names of the first people who posted on the pot.   I believe in April of 2009, I have been posting on the pot for five years.

Ran trains last night and unlike Laz, I run mine fast.  So fast that it swept a plasticville person off the train platform and he was fatally injured.  He passed away at the plasticville hospital a few hours later after being transported in the plasticville ambulance. Ashamed

Speaking of trains, I finally was able to post photos of the New River Train on  Sunday Photo Fun thanks to our photo-master Spankybird.  Bow  If you want to step back in time, visit Thurmond, WV and Hinton, WV.  The museum at Hinton is very interesting with photo albums of everything C&O.  Of course right down the street the water tower is a major antique.

With that, see ya down the tracks.

Good Morning All,

IIABSDISEI with temps in the 40s.  Chilly last night.  Watched some of "Dancing with the Stars".  Lucas called.  Said he had to drop Latin and he picked up another 3 hour half semester class to replace the credits.  Proud of him recognizing a losing situation and bailing before it was disastrous to his GPA.  We'll work something out on his language requirement.  Life goes on.  Saw autocarrier cars at Honda plant yesterday.  Shows they are getting serious.  I had bran muffins on the dining car this morning.  I hope everyone has a good day.

Keep on training,

Mornin' boys.  Mornin' English.  Well, it's not sunny, warm, or dry in the Mid-Atlantic region today.  Think I'll work on the layout a little.

Buckeye - now you know why so many scale doodles model that region of WV.  Sat here yesterday and watched your whole photobucket catalog.

dbaker - one could get himself in the "jackpot" with that fountain pen spy camera...Whistling

dwiemer - here, have some more coffee...I'll aim a little lower next time...Smile,Wink, & Grin

Good Morning

My wife says it's cold out. I am going to take her word for it. Got to start looking for some trains to take sunday, doesn't really matter  as there is way too much for sale already and even bargain prices won't sell an item. Chief, does watering your greenhouse make it grow? Just wondering. It's Tuesday, have a good one. S.J.

Morning all. Cold and windy here. 35 before counting the wind 'chill' - still seems too early in the season for it. Hope today is better than last Tues. Looking forward to class tonight - and arguing with Blue Cross a bit later this morn. New CTT looks great! Hope your neck feels better today, Dennis.

Morning all!

Buckeye:  Sorry for your loss.  Prayers for the deceased.  Good thing they're relatively inexpensive.

Bride just forwarded this:  http://publius.org  (Publius Valerius Publicola (or Poplicola, his nickname meaning "friend of the people" from Wikipedia)  Put out by the League of Women Voters.  When you log on to the site, you can verify that you are registered to vote, see where you vote, see your ballot, read the questions ahead of time, and really take time to research and understand what they are asking you to vote for.

I lgged on and they ask for your name as it appears on the MI voter registration card...So I'm not sure if all the states are covered.

Morning all.  Chilly as Yankee weather invades the South.  They don't like it but they don't mind sharing it with us Southerners.

Buckeye, person died because the Rogers Corner EMS was at the local bar drinking it up to stay warm.  Their response time was too great.

Now for some Town Hall time.  Have a good one.

Morning Boys (here & across the big pondSmile,Wink, & Grin)

Hey Kurt (I'm Rich, BTW, Brent is Lionroar88), nah, all main line stuff, I have over 1000, just time to move 'em along.  I may e-bag 'em so I can make room for other things (trains, for example....Smile,Wink, & Grin), but not the Johnny Lightning (I'll keep those)

Was a crisp 41F this morning at 7:30, like RRCharlie says, very early for these here parts) up to 60 today!  The Halloween display took a minor hit last night, was outside until 10 PM repairing the damage from the wind (have never been this windy...)  So far this morning, no problems, it's still standing.

I'll have to get those pictures of the other side of the layout posted.  Last softball game of the season tonight, should be a chilly on fur shure!!

See ya later!

Forgot to mention I saw a few rusty Soo Line newsprint cars mingled in the sea of CN in North Ave yard this morning as I came into the city. The yard basically exists to serve the Trib printing plant and Blommer Chocolate. Far fewer newsprint cars in it since the Trib redesigned itself to be smaller...but those Soo cars sure stand out - even if rusty. There was also a newish MoPac gon...

Good Afternoon from Blueberryhill....

It's a cold , gloomy day here today. 38 degrees. Maybe snow flurries later. I do not like the winter.

Not much new to report. Still have not made it to the train room. Leg is better, but stiff. I need to keep it exercised. Pain is almost gone.

Dining car was here for beakfast and left for " Points West ".

Y'all have a great Tuesday.

Emergency run to the lake.  Spending the night.  Plumber could not get new Pella high $$$ storm door to unlock [deadbolt lock].  They can't get their person there until they don't know when.  I am going and take off side of frame where lock is.  Pick up a new lock set from their store [pass right by it on the way] and change out.  Bet I get some "mileage" out of this one.  New door one month old. Later.

I miss my mind too...Dunce  Sorry...I get about 3-minutes between breaking up sibling confrontation....to sort them out and sort me out.

Funny thing...I was just thinking the other day I would probably confuse you two at some point on the bike issue...

Gotta a fight to break up...Happy meals today with Barbie's causing a rift...and they both got the same one.

Chief:  Call Pella.  If they are as good as Anderson they'll send someone out to fix it.  Don't waste your time.  Hey didn't all yoose down south climb just in thru the windows anyway????  So it would be more like Nascar????

Good afternoon everyone!  I have to try to remember what I was trying to post this morning, but the gremlins ate my post!

Thanks for the kind thoughts (not sure about Fife's, then again, if you aim higher, I will be out of misery).  Actually, neck issue is that I have two arthritically fused disks in my neck and another that is degenerating.  Needless to say, I have a lot of headaches, and just a pain in the neck...

Took delivery of that Southern Mikado from Justrains.  Of course, wife put it right away as it is for Christmas....I can wait.  I checked the net and it sells for $499.00 in most places.  Justrains has it for $275.00 with TMCC, Railsounds, etc.  Good deal.

Doug, the way the insurance companies work, they have some flunky that denies most claims when they come in.  Then, the claim moves on to another person if the client protests.  This second person then pays/denies, and it moves on.  In a number of cases, people do not push the point and so the insurance saves money.  Regardless, glad that you are dealing with the main issue.  It is a real condition and I pray things work out.

Don, you did good sir.  The young man seems like a good guy, but when emotions dictate action, that action is usually wrong.  Glad you were able to bring him back to reality.  Hope things work out.  I am sure he will need encouragement along the way as they are obviously hurting big time.

God Bless,

dennis

Chief--

Kurt is right, call Pella right now--they have master installers that will fix the problem no questions asked and they will do it quickly.  There's a reason they charge as much as they do.

Prayers for us all.

Poor Chewy - we noticed she had a big bloody sore on her rear quarter last night so I gave her an emergency bath to try and clean her up and find out what was wrong.  No sign of the problem, but she has been scratching and biting her fur a lot.  Took her to the vet thinking maybe a parasite or something - nope, just xerosis (very dry skin).  Vet put her head in a cone collar and she is just moping around.  She can't really jump and I think her bangs are getting in the way, so we might have to do emergency surgery on her hair so she can see, even if it does mess up her hairdo.  I'm sure she'll get over it.  Gave us some kind of oatmeal stuff to put on her in the bath, I guess?  No instructions.

I've got a guy coming out to give us an estimate on fixing the pieces of siding that someone shot with a BB Gun.  Nobody knows anything about that do they?  I was wondering if Chief was shooting up in the air again?

Kids are clearing an area for a small Halloween layout.  We'll just do a small loop on a cardtable and some scenery this year I guess.

RIP Chewy - best dog I ever had.

Well, the Tardis is ready, so I'll be over in a minute.  Need to run over and see if we can fix Doug's dishwasher, apparently it's making a hideous sound?  John Baker, I know you said the gritters were out, but I'm not sure that those are the same grits?  Or, do they put butter and salt on your roads as well?  Laugh  I hope things are okay at Tranquility Base and Chief did not have to break the glass!

That's a good one John ! LOL

Had a good day today, feeling lots better.

Chris' gf, gave him a digital camera for his birthday last May, he took it to Death Valley with him this past weekend.  As you might know, had a problem.  Believe a grain of sand got in the lens housing.  Contacted the company needs to go back to NJ for repair.  Found a local facility, and took it there, they said they would need to send it to NJ as well.  They indicated to plan on 12 to 18 weeks!  When I talked with the company in NJ they said 2-3, so guess will be sending it there.

Made labels for Control Panel this evening, maybe will be able to operate things a little better.  Trying to figure out what will work on this weekend.  Reindeer or trains??

Have a great day!  And hope no one gets locked out of their house today.

Take care !!!
