Hi guys,  Still getting used to the new forum.  As an experiment I just downloaded the beta version of IE8, XP64 edition.  It seems to be working OK, that is what I am using now.  I normally use firefox.  Is it just me or is anyone else getting this weird multicolored font?

We are to get some frost tonight so the flowers my be toast by morning.

Karen and I went into a Zayres discount store not too long after we were married and saw a stack of the Coke trains sets.  We remember that the price was $29.95.  Was very tempted, but decided not to spend the money on one.  Many, many times I wished I had bought two or three as at one time they were commanding a pretty good price.  Oh well, another missed opportunity.  Remind me to tell you the story about the cabbage patch dolls some day.

Evening all from beautiful Southern Ohio

It is beautiful outside, cool clear and crisp.  The leaves are at full color and the deer are feeling frisky.  Saw about 20 on the way to work this evening.  The reports from York make me want to go next year more than ever.  Since classes will be over that may be a real possibility.  I proposed the idea to the bride about using some of our timeshare points to visit Gettysburg next fall, coincidently with the weed end for York.

I noticed there are not many "replies" being listed on the threads, new format issues??

I'll check back later

May God bless

Good Evening Y'all! Hope that the gang have all returned to the home front after York. Also hope that no one is in trouble for bringing in the mother load of trains. Perhaps it is time for an "after action report" from those on the front lines.

Had to work the lighting at church today. We have a new light board that looks something like a 747 control panel. Good thing I only have to push a few buttons. Heard from my mother this morning, parents finally were able to see Fireproof. She had a good report as the theater was full (not bad for a theater in NJ, 4 weeks after the release). Anyway, she had lots of questions and we were able to answer.

On another note, got word from one of our pregnancy crisis ministers that they have a 17 year old in need. She is 5 months pregnant and lives with her grandmother. We have a lot of baby items from our kids and we donate them as needed. We also tend to go shopping for women in need. All too many kids these days get into situations like this. Shame. Amazing that our schools can teach so many things we don't want them to, but refuse to teach kids about staying pure.

Well, I had the best of intentions to work on the layout, but ended up putting up "big kid" swings on the swing set.  Kids really like it and it is great to see them getting along so well.  Hope it is not short lived, but know that brothers and sisters naturally get to beating each other up.

May y'all have a blessed week ahead.

Dennis

Woke up and neck was killing me again, so I took it easy today.  My wife didn't like the light fixture I bought OR the doorknob I replaced (wanted a handle style, not a round one), so I made her go with me to Home Depot for replacements.  We ended up buying 10 sets of doorknobs and actually forgot one door (a little linen closet we don't use very much) as well as a new and stylish fixture.  At least we have what she wants now.  I swapped out a couple knobs so she could test them Thumbs Up  I found Lionel Nation DVDs #1 and #2 online from a couple stores at good prices, so they should be here in a week or less.  Talked to Sir James this morning.  Tomorrow, it's back to work, but it's a short day as I have to pick up the kids in the afternoon.  I did not get any work done on the Halloween layout again.  We all just got home a little while ago.  Oh well, I still have a couple weeks to go!

Spent the day being lazy.. but I did manage to get a mountain that I have been working on complete.  I finished forming it last night and managed to get the sculptamold on last night as well.  Lucas helped Dad paint the mountain, apply some ground foam etc.  Turned out pretty good.  On top of my mountain is an old Lionel # 394 Rotating Beacon.  It glows brightly but will not rotate.  Perhaps Sir James has some advice.....

Dude do you have the right kind of bulb in it??? If I remember right it takes a bulb that has a dimple on top and the heat from the bulb make it spin or is that a different accessory I am thinking of???

Morning all

About three more hours and we'll be turning over to the next shift.  It has been a good night.  We've gotten quite a bit done and stayed out of trouble!

Assuming you have the correct bulb with a dimple in it, the most common reason for the beacons not rotating is the fins not adjusted properly to allow the heat from the bulb make the beacon housing turn.  I set them to about a 45 degree pitch.  Another possibility is the pin inside the housing not being straight, if it is tweaked to the side it will not spin right.  The beacon housing should set level on the bulb and parallel to the horizon.  Also make sure you have about 18 volts going to the lamp.  Less voltage and it may not get hot enough.  And if you are in an area with a draft, the draft may be affecting the rotation.  A cool room (ambient temperature) will make the beacon turn faster than a hot room.  Once you get these things taken care of they will spin pretty good.  I like the beacons and have a few of them and have ran into each of these issues.

Good luck

Jim

 Morning to All,

Thought I'd throw on a new pot this AM.  Not much happening here in South Central PA.  Back to work after having much of the last two weeks off for vacation and the York meet.  I think I might be able to get used to this retirement thing.  All I'll have to do is get the economy to turn around so I can recoup that 50% of my retirement savings that has vanished in the last 12 months or so.  Oh well.  I think I'd get bored playing with trains all day. Smile,Wink, & Grin

Take care,

Mitch

Good morning all,

IIABSDISEI with temps in the 60s.  Went to a train show at Indy yesterday.  Got an Alaska refrigerator car and some Tinplate barrels for the gondolas.  Lots of layouts, but hardly anybody there to look or buy.  Had to feel sorry for the vendors.  Put up Halloween decorations.  Visited oldest daughter, son-in-law and grandkids.  Nice day.  I had the usual fare on the dining car this morning before heading to "Points East".  Watched "Desperate Housewives" last night.  It was good.  I hope everyone has a good day.

Keep on training,

Mike C. from Indiana

Sir James:  2-Weeks til Gratiot Valley!  Check!  I'll have to wait for the right moment for clearance.  I think I'll be in Macomb to run trains this comming weekend...Will you be at the store?

Church went well!  The youth group (1st, 2nd, and 3rd grades) will be having a band every week now!  Introduced to a teen interested in sound!  He says knows how to run the board...so it's his show next week!  I'll be there for support.

Re-assembled outlet boxes and address numbers on the house yesterday, assembled most of the top section of the crane.  Watched 20-minutes of football.

Morning all.  Went to lake house and then by MIL's for a big meal.  Came in late and reclinerized early.  Woke up and went straight to bed.  Slept till 8. Approve  Meeting day.  One this afternoon and then Mayors' Assoc. tonight [free steak].  It turned cold as the Yank's cold air is trying to invade the South.

Welcome MitchRR [we now have Mitch and MitchRR].  Kurt, the reason we don't have five stars is an old "buddy" voted this thread down after he left our company.  The new star voting is tricky.  Better be careful or you will vote something down and not mean too.

OH, I understand someone gets upset if you "misspell" words.  Well, who cares.  I usually talk in Suthern anyway.  Don't like it, don't read it.  We have fun any which way it is spelled.

Good Morning

Chilly but sun. Charlie on the 394, Phish covered it pretty well. A hot bulb and no draft. My advice: get a 494 and it will turn forever.

Kurt if you are going to be over this way, stop in and we will run a few trains. They ran when Charlie was here so I suppose they would run for you too. I'll put in a good word on your behalf. They usually listen to me. I can't believe its time for that GV show already. Time to check the inventory.

Brutus, please use the front door, the alarm wakes me up.

Everyone have a great day...S.J.

Good Morning Y'all!  It was a nice 43 degrees this morning.  I guess I still have some of that thick blood in my system as I wore shorts in.  No cases today, so I plan to head to the hacienda early and get some work done.  I will sweep the pine straw for the landscapers to put out and then it is layout time!  Plan is to finish wiring some of the lower loops and perhaps extend the turnout lines to a control panel.  I still need to design the panel, but have some ideas to go with.  (Still open to other ideas)

As for folks jumping on those with less than stellar grammer, this is a train forum.  Unless one raises to the level of the almighty, don't put others down.  We are hear to have fun and enjoy a little down home good times, and perhaps pick up some useful knowledge along the way.

God Bless,

Morning All !  Hope everyone had a good weekend, sounds pretty good!

John - Glad you picked up the H-10.  Obviously you must have got your price as well.  How do you keep track of what engine needs exercising?  Looking forward to the pictures of the Log Doll House.

Buckeye - That was a couple of good reports on York!  I saw on the other forum where a guy was saying now that York is over he was looking forward to Cal-Stewart.  The thing of it is, he was comparing the two.  Cal-Stewart is probably the best we got, but it wouldn't compare to 10% of one of the buildings at York.  He mentioned there where MORE modular layouts at CS,  That may be true if a 6' oval counts as a layout.  Once you've been to York, you're spoiled!

Somebody spilled the Banilla in the Tardis, it was real sticky, you guys are going to have to be more careful.  After all they just showed the new A380 landing at LAX this morning from Australia, with 495 passengers, and I'm sure it was spotless.

Had a pretty good week-end, worked Sat. morning, then painted reindeer Saturday afternoon, got all the Dark Brown on all 9 of them.  The next colors should go on pretty fast.  Then had a Anniversary celebration last night (29 years).  Went to a restaurant that had a store near where we used to live.  It was actually located at Amatrak station.  Food and service was nothing like it used to be.  As a matter of fact there were 6 of us, the booth they put us in had 2 tables that slld together.   The table only serviced about 75% of the booth, the seats extended well beyond the table.  Where I was sitting there was NOT any table surface.  So the Busboy came up to get drink orders, and I asked him if they had any TV trays that I could use.  He very seriously said "I think so, sir.  Let me go check."  I was flabergasted.  He actually came back with a lap tray.  I told him that this just would not work.  Asked if they had another table or booth.  He said "I think there is one in the Back Room.  So when the waiter came I told him I needed to either get a different booth, or speak with the Manager.  They finally relocated us.  (Would have left, but wife wanted the nostlagia of that particular restaurant.)  So, dinner was OK, barely... I  I had Teriyaki Chicken, and it was served with vegtables.  The veggies consisted of a 6" skewer that had 5 slices (small) of veggies.  The chicken was so dry I used A1 sauce on it.   Chris wanted Steak and Lobster, WRONG!  They wanted $49 for a 8 oz Steak, and 6 oz tail.  The servers seemed to be trainees, lots and lots of errors.  So anyway, tried to turn all the negatives into positives and laugh it all off.  Then came home and we all watched "Its a Wonderful Life"  given all the economic woes, thought it was appropriate.  So now I need to come up with something for tonight to impress her.

Yesterday, we went to an Antique show which is held monthly.  There was a number of various postwar and MPC era trains for sale.  Price seemed a little high, but sure was moving.  I talked to a couple of the vendors and they said trains were usually a hot item.  Sooo..... I think I may have found an outlet for some excess inventory, and a bunch of junk from the garage as well.  Planning has begun.

Chris going on a camping trip this coming weekend to Death Valley, with his Geology class from school.  Should be an interesting trip!

Hope everyone has a great day!  Till later

Good Morning, chilly here in Columbus Ohio the Heart of it all. Monday is weigh in time for me Blindfold been fluctchulating 255 +/- a couple pounds last few weeks. Went to a senior center(took my parents) to get flu shot, I went along to check out the model railroad but it was not open(train display) Only on Mondays and Tuesdays is it open to the public. The Martin Janis center is a cool place to visit even if you are not a senior citizen, they have a big HO layout in basement.

Good Morning,

Had a good day saturday at the train show in Deerfield Beach FL. Sold about $180.00 worth of stuff, bought an Atlas O Amtrac three car set for $75.00. Nice set, cars are about 21 inches long and the box claims it takes 054 curves, I got the cars to go around GarGraves 42 inch curves without any problems.

Will be on tommorrow again, have to go to work.
