Good Morning from Blueberryhill....

It is a cool 56 degrees. Cloudy. Maybe sun later at 66 degrees.

Today is a busy day. Lots to do around the house. My leg is doing better. Been walking around w/o the walker. Feels good. Need to keep exercising. I think I  will try to get down to the train room this weekend. I need to do that.

Dining car was here and left for " Points West " Lots of goodies are left, since Buckeye is at York.

Y'all have a great Friday.

Heard this morning that the conversion over to Digital TV may be delayed a month due to the economic situation.  Interesting.

Sure have heard a lot of good things about the Lionel layout, too bad pictures aren't permitted.  MAYBE Roy may have needed to take a couple for technical referance?

BTW, regarding the fonts, Isn't the primary impact of the font size affecting the  font when you view the text.  Wonder what the "default" font size is.  Hopefully it isn't too small.

Anticipate quite day at the office today, have a small show to do this weekend, then a lot of project activity for the rest of the week-end.

Spent some time running trains last night, Need to taks some stuff OFF the layout, not enough room to run a whole lot.

Have a great day!!!

Good Almost afternoon everyone.  Got one case going, another in the wings and hope to get out in a timely manner.  I am still on call, but hope to at least spend a little quality time with the family this weekend.  I have some work at the courthouse next week, but I hope that I don't have to be there too long.  Besides working like crazy, having to spend time while lawyers talk is too much to handle.  At least I am just an expert witness, and not one with anything to lose.

I may be able to work on the layout this weekend.  The family likes to help, so that may count as quality time as well.  I also have the landscapers coming, so I hope to get out this afternoon to cut some "trees" for the layout.  Figure I will hang them upside down and dry them, then spray and plant them when scenery time comes.

Tried to figure out the avatar thingy.  If it worked, then I will have a photo there.  If not, it will still be that ominous looking shadow.

Hope everyone at York has a great time, and that all have a blessed weekend.

Dennis

Evening all!

GregM:  Sorry to hear about the job situation.

Brutus:  I'm in for a run tonight!  New box of Sammi's in tow.  Great news about the engine!  I thought you said it was cancelled?

Chuck:  Glad you're up and around again!  Maybe you'll be able to catch that waitress in the morning!

Gathered and burned more leaves today...the rain from the other day really dumped 'em.

Spent some time running the H16-44 while I cleaned the office.

On Train restrictions.  Sigh   Will live vicaroiusly for a while...maybe a L - o - n - g while.

Evenin' boys.  Clear and 57 here in the Mid-Atlantic region.  Just came back from steak house with wifey.  Need to get my rest before I hit the gates at 0900 at YORK tomorrow.

Had a nice time at the Nawthern Strategy Session, last evening.  Buckeye came up and gave me a big bear-hug (luckily,I'm very secure in my manly-ness Kisses)  Funny, when you finally meet someone after corresponding for so long, there is such a feeling of familiarity.  Sat next to him at dinner, and it's like we've been meeting like that for years.  Felt sorry for Wes, and could not imagine walking around the fairgrounds on crutches...and he almost had me with the "football" injury.  Always good seeing Jefelectric and Roy again, and see Mr & Mrs Susie-Q as often as I do my own folks...Good times, glad I got to go.

GregM - Hang in there...

Thoughts and prayers to all with difficult job situations.  Most people are hurting--it a matter of a little or a lot.   My wife has seen most of her business dry up, but God blesses us more than we deserve, so no complaining here.

Off to the HS homecoming game and bbq tonight.  Now that the weather is cooling here in Vegas--thoughts drift towards my garage and my layout.

Another beautiful sunny Fall day here in NE Taxachusetts.

I started out the day with a major plumbing disaster.  As I pass the powder room on the first floor, I hear gurgling. Everything was backing up and rising in the toilet on the first floor while the wife is on the second floor taking her daily 15 minute shower.  I bolt upstairs, screaming a warning.  "Turn off the shower!  The toilet downstairs is backing up with shower water and is about to spill over!"  Wife says calmly that she's almost through. Banged Head

So I bolt back downstairs and it suddenly dawns on me.  What does "almost" through mean?  Another 20 gallons/10 minutes?  So I bolt back upstairs for clarification, toilet bowl downstairs near overflow point.  Wife said tough bannanas, she HAS to finish with her shower or will be late for a very important meeting! Banged Head

By now I am now at a crossroads.  Act fast or.......so I bolt back downstairs, planning to bail out the toilet into a bucket.  I open the closet door and surprise surprise.  Bucket stored FOR 20 YEARS about 3 feet away from toilet in the closet is mysteriously missing. Banged Head

Now I'm desperate, so I run for a plastic beverage pitcher.  Tide waters now at the rim, threatening to overflow (and subsequently warp) the hardwood floor.  Can't dump the water in the sink because I'd be just compounding the problem.  So I get the bright idea to dump the water out the back door.  As fast as I can.  Bailing.  Running.  Dumping.  Running.  Bailing.  Running.  Dumping, etc,.....until I thankfully hear the shower turn off and see that the tidal basin is beginning to recede.

Catastrophe averted.  Survived the rising flood waters.  Time to call my trusty plumber of 20 years.

You guessed it.  First string plumber can't make it, he's at another emergency with yet another to follow, suggests I call his cousin and gives me Ralph's phone number: "Hi, this is Ralph of Ralph's Plumbing.  I'm on vacation right now and will be back October 20.....Banged Head

Anyway, out comes the yellow pages and I get some name brand outfit who show up in an hour!  Starts the snake routine.  Finally, the third stringer hits the jackpot and asks, "Got any kids?"  "No, why?"  "Toilets and the downstream plumbing don't do well around kids with toys."  "I have a 5 year old granddaughter."  "Bingo! " he exclaims.  Shows me a small stuffed animal, now bloated, attached to the end of the snake, worse for wear. Banged Head

Words of wisdom for the day.  Beware of what you wish for, like the false sense of pride and relief you get when the little ones are thankfully potty trained and now want their privacy.  Granddaughter will run around the house naked after a bath, like a wild animal, no problem.  But she must have the bathroom door closed, her potty privacy you know.

Sabotuers, every one of the little monsters. Banged Head

Jack

PS:  Had I known how lucrative plumbing was as a profession, I'd have become a plumber.  This guy makes three times as much for a housecall and one hour of work than my orthopedic surgeon gets for an office visit! Banged Head  And it isn't covered by insurance! Banged Head Banged Head

IF IT WON'T COME LOOSE BY TAPPING ON IT, DON'T TRY TO FORCE IT. USE A BIGGER HAMMER.

I'm back from York!  You can't see everything in 1 day.  I got a good taste of what to expect next year though.  I finally got a chance to meet some great forum members in person, and definately had a great time.  Somehow we did it without breaking the bank too.  I can see going back year after year as it was that nice of a trip.  I owe everyone a great thanks for all of the help they offered as I crutched and wheeled around the halls, and carrying my treasures as I found them.  Best thing about York??? The forum members, without a doubt.  I also had a chance to meet some of the CTT staff, and they are all great people.

I tried to convince Buckeye to let us bring the Duzzi, but he wanted more trunk room for his purchases.  We had to strap the luggage (and my crutches) on top of the car on the way home though.  We made it home OK since Yanks know how to tie knots pretty well, and our hands aren't all slimey from all of the grits...

You guys have to make it there if you have never been.  Excellent trip!

Rock, sorry to hear about your issue.  I might just be talking big, because it wasn't me, but I'd have to had gone and turn off the main shut off valve in the house.  Lots of screams, but less water.  Glad it worked out.  Regarding the fees and the orthopedic surgeon, today I was at the barber discussing patient charges.  Currently, 70% of our patients have no insurance and do not pay for the surgery.  Imagine how most businesses would function if 70% of their customers just walked out the door without paying...I should have been a plumber!

Was a decent day, finished work, took care of some honey dos and now I get to relax.  Wish I could be with the rest of the gang at York.  Hope to hear some great stories.   As last year, if any of you guys finds a CTT Divco truck, I am interested.  Please get it and I'll send the money.

I heard about a jacket that Kirk Cameron used in the movie and how it is on Ebay for auction.  With 12 hours to go, it is almost $2000.00!  I have the Axe that he used and had the whole cast sign it.  Wonder how much it would get?   Perhaps some train money?  Nah, SWMBO would get something.  I'll just keep the axe along with a few other momentos.

God Bless,

Dennis

Wes and Buckeye,

Sorry I missed you guys and the dinner festivities with Fifey, Brent & SusieQ, etc.  I was looking for you guys on Thursday but didn't manage to find you. Today we met for the Coffee Pot Photo, I am attaching it below:

As you can see, MartyE and I were the only tried and true Pot members who got there for the photo. Caught up with JohnF and Roy later in the afternoon and they said that were in the middle of feeding their faces and realized they had forgotten the photo. I might go over tomorrow just for the fun of it. Will have to see if SWMBO has other plans for me.
Take care,
Mitch

Just barely made it on the Coffee Pot today.  Not sure about all the talk re fonts and colors etc.  I assume it's about posting on the forum.  I don't have a clue how to do it.  Had a good running session this morning on the layout with my new circus train mentioned in another post.  Have tried several engines on it and they all look good.  The Santa Fe Warbonet F units probably look the most colorful.  Just when I thought my prescription medicine could not go any higher they added another $30 per month to an already high price of $447.  Glad I have a sense of humor but this is no joke.  Don't they know we are heading for a depression?  I think I just answered my own question.  They and the medicare prescription drug plan "Donut Hole" are putting me in one.  Sorry for the rant.  Just had to tell somebody.  Ray

Good evening from Southern Ohio,

Overcast today, but that is OK because I spent the day sleeping since I am on nightshift.  Before going to bed I did get some pictures ready for SPF.  Fife, got something special for you!

Chuck – Glad your leg is getting stronger and less painful.  Good luck with the trip to the basement.

Don – The delay in digital?  You mean we don’t have to go out and but a box or a new TV?  That would be good.  For myself I don’t watch enough TV to invest the big $$ for HD.

Dennis – neat pic on the avatar

Jack- as I read your post I laughed to myself as I’ve been there.  I’ve snaked several toys from daughter’s toilet where toys have “gone for a swim”.  Story also reminded me of when we had an exchange student living with us and loved long hot showers.  After speaking with her about the long showers and warning that I was going to turn off the hot water after a reasonable amount of time to no avail, one evening after a reasonable about of time showering, I called into the bathroom and said, I am turning off the hot water, walked from the second floor to the basement and valved off the hot water.  Heard a scream.  Never had another problem with long hot showers.

Wes – Sounds like you had a great time.  Maybe next year I can join you.

May God bless

Jim

GOOD EVENING ALL

Well I spent most of the day at the store. We got a small order from Lionel that included the A5 switcher that Brutus has been waiting for and the Kline Empire State xpress. We were  just getting the A5 on the track for a test run and I just barely started testing it and a customer bought one. I got home just before a new train friend arrived to see my trains. His name is Charlie and I invited him here to the pot for a coffee. Maybe we will see him here tonite. if so welcome Charlie.

Brutus, fire up the Tardis, I got banilla and rootbeer...S.J.

Mitch,

Buckeye and I are already planning next fall's trip, so we should be able to see a lot more members when we are there more than one day.  Feeding time took priority with us as well.  It's really the only thing more important than trains there...

 Good evening,

Well I think I figured out the new forum format.  Will see when I get this posted.  Just back from the second day at York.  Came home early so I could have dinner with Jean.  Did pick up a few goodies, more on that later.  Had a great time with Buckeye and Wes (the York newbees) yesterday.  Spent today with Roy  and ran into Mitch.  Chatted with Don U. on Thursday also.

Looks like the forum only uses about 1/3 of the screen, maybe I need to change the resolution?

Smile EXCELLENT!  GREAT TIMING TOO!

Had a good day.  Talked to Doug Murphy on the phone for a while this AM (Great guy!) and then took kids out to play miniature golf and grab an icecream.  Went to Borders and they got a couple books.  I picked up Electronics for Dummies -- might help me!  Then we caught up with my wife and ate dinner at the Olive Garden Dinner

Okay Kurt, I've got some Sammis and also some Octoberfest Sammis, which are pretty good actually!  I think they toasted the barley first?  Sir James and I will be over to get you in a minute, gotta grab some more leaves so you can burn 'em for me!

Nice pic from York and sounds like all are having a great time!

Plenty of room, Charlie - come on and we'll all hook up for some rootbeers or regular, pick your poison.  We generally eat Sir James' banilla for desert, even if he goes to bed early.  We know where he keeps the key!
