Good Mornin', Ya'll, From The Sunny Fall Foliage and Halloween Capitol of the USA,
Brrrrr......finally had to turn on heat last night for the first time this season when the wife alarm went off. Couldn't turn off alarm during the lecture on how I shouldn't touch the thermostat once she has it set at 74. Maybe Bob Nelson has advice on how to wire the thermostat so that the actual temp readout is higher than it really is. A case of strategic recalibration.
Last night I bailed wife out big time. She called me late afternoon. Had to go out to dinner with a mucky mucks from her corporate offices and wanted to derail 2 hours of endless shop talk. So she called me in off the bench to join them, only significant other present. At least she sees some value in being married to me. Mucky mucks caved at about 8:15 pm and wife came home with a smile on her face. "They never stood a chance, did they." "Nope." The only topic I think I missed was "The native customs and foods of aborigines from Roseyville." If they had grits on the menu, I would have ordered them as an apetizer to accelerate an earlier end to the affair.
Kurt.....I'll have to go search for some links because I had to do quite a bit of searching for the supplementals. The final Bill as passed including the supplementals was nowhere to be found....because THEY didn't want US to know what they had done, who sponsored what, or who co-sponsored what.
Buckeye..... my daughter and SIL have a DVR too, and the simple luxury of "no commercials" is worth it at 3 times the price. And unlike a VHS or DVD unit, I like the fuctionality where you can continue recording something live while simultaneously replaying portions you missed when you hit the head, went to the kitchen for a beer, got interrupted by the phone, or got into a disagreement a game changing play/replay. Then resume watching either live or where you left off.
Lee......re your upcoming trip to the "plumber," that's a preventative maintainence item I delayed needlessly and foolishly (colonoscopy). Honestly, in retrospect the fasting was the toughest part. For me the actual procedure was less traumatic than the insertion of the IV, no lie. Great drugs. But that's my take. Others may have a different opinion or experience.
Rich......re the Princess Diaries, I washed my Dad's cars for about 10 years before I was allowed to drive it. As Pat Morita/Mr. Miyagi said, "Wax on. Wax off."
MikeC.....DougM hit the nail on the head when he observed that at a guys' pizza party there would be no leftovers. You missed an opportunity to subtley suggest the girls were wimps and segeway yourself into "maybe guys in general ARE just willing to pay a certain price more than girls.....we'll see at the playoff game."
A game with some yellow cards and a newfound next level of intensity might be preferable to just going quietly in the night, win or lose. Or "We'll show that MikeC what we're made of." There are no more tomorrows in this soccer season. Perhaps I'm grasping at straws.
Jim Phish......your post made me think: remember the good old days when retirement at 65 was economically feasible for most? Serious stuff.
Who is this newbie lionroar88 guy?
Later gang.

Jack and DougM, the purpose of the 5 pizzas was to make sure there were some leftovers. If I tried to feed the boy's team, I'd have to take out a loan as well as the pizzas. Motivating girls as any of us with daughters would know is a tough detail. Mostly I try to keep it positive. A lot of them either come from split or single parent families and a lot never have parents at the game. I figure if they have one person who gives a d--n about them, maybe that will be of some benefit. Hopefully they will win the first game. I hope everyone has a good day.
Keep on training,

DBaker48, Don, I just read on the other Forum about the AGHR open house on November 8th and 9th. Hope I can make it and see you there. Ray

Been working on some of the halloween rolling stock and scenery. Got the trusses all set so now it is time to start serious plans for the rest of the layout. It mite not meet Buckeye's engineering standards but since it will only carry ghosts, ghouls and goblins it should hold.

Well put my $1.00 desk together today (went to an auction last night and it went up for sale and nobody was bidding on desk he started at $20.00 and when he kept going down he got to $5.00 and ask anybody interested I said I'll give you $1.00 and he took it and I won it. LOL) It an old wooden full size desk kinda reminds me of my 6th grades teachers desk for some reason I remember that one lol. i was using what I call a students dorm desk or half desk has middle draw and 3 draws on one side one being deep.

Ray, I resigned from the club. Bottomline - Just gotten to be too dangerous to run the more expensive engines there, always seemed like some kinda damage. Really, too bad, was having a great time!

Don, If you don't mind the LONG commute( ) you could always join the 3railers.
Doug -
Believe me, I would if I could!! It's just that commute! Maybe things will change in a few months. The bad thing was I had just renewed my dues too. But, it was "my" decision, so I only blame my self.
Good Evening everyone. Oh what a day it was! We were trying a new technique on the first case and the guy handling that end of things delayed us about an hour. Then, the case was difficult at best, but we got it done....just took a long time. Then, we had a emergency case curtousy of the cath lab, followed by another emergency where some renal docs got in over their collective heads. I did make my appt. and got everything taken care of.
Lee, Jack is right, the hardest part of the test is the prep. After the clean and flush, it is very easy. The meds will have you getting the best sleep you've had in a long time. But if you wake with lipstick on your collar, we don't want to know.
Came home tonight and the wife and kids were having fun with the Wii Fit. I can watch the bride work out all day. Eventually I will get on the excersize routine, but gotta get some relief before I drop.
I see Nancy P. wants another 120 Billion to work on the financials. Has anybody heard of personal accountability? If the bailouts are truely necessary, why do they have to add so much pork to get folks to vote for it? Shouldn't people vote for it on it's own merrit?
Fife, do you know if Allentown PD still has the "Police Shoot"? I thought they had stopped the competition some time ago. I used to compete when I was with the FD. I would go with the local PD team. They used to have a trophy for the shooter with the lowest combined score. It was an acrylic trophy with a cop shooting into a toilet bowl. The caption engraved into the trophy was "Oh What A Day I Had!" My father won it, but I can't tell you the number of folks who wanted it. Some of the other guys on the team tried to walk off with it when visiting.... all were caught.
Phish, I had to do Haz Mat training from FEMA recently to recertify. I had done it way back when I was on the job, but some things have changed. Command Control is the same. As for the suits. We had an incident with level A's and the SCBAs of the time were Interspiro. One tank/regulator system malfunctioned and the guy's air shut down. He coded, but was rescued. From what I hear, there was a pay off and the department got new equipment, but no one was told of the incident....just watch your back.
Well, time for bed. Hope everyone is having a good week. May God Bless,
Dennis

56 degrees in St. Louis after a high temp of 70. No rain and finally had some sun today.
Great news today - my wife got a big promotion she basically earned a couple of years ago, but the money finally came along for the job she is doing! She is very excited! We just got back from a celebration dinner. Hey, as of this coming Sunday, she makes more than I do?! I better get on the ball!
RIP Chewy - best dog I ever had.
Evening all
Jim F - Congrats to the bride!
Dennis - I know what you mean. Twenty some years ago I was on a fresh air job with the supplied air coming from a hose(s) to a piped in system, about 400' feet in air supply cut off when a coupling came apart. Not fun running 400' with no air! I'll take the SCBA anyday.
I've been on the HazMat team for over 30 years. Taught HazMat Incident Command for 6 years. I've been very fortunate, being at a Nuke plant the bad calls don't happen too often.
Well need to get back to homework for Saturday
May God bless
GOOD EVENING ALL
Just got off the phone, talking to Brutus a great guy to spend some time with. Lite rain a lot of today but 66 feels like spring after two weeks in the fiftys. Doc said my oxygen level during sleep test was normal the full six hours but that my sleep was so restless that I woke up twenty seven times. I only remember twice. They are going to try sleeping pills. I said fine but what about my headache which is why I came here and they said try the pills for awhile. I told my wife if something happens to me. sue em. they have had plenty of time to find whats wrong. Sorry Dennis nothing personal here.

Hey Doug - just read back over the pot for the day, very cool bridge pieces you've made with those bones!
Had a nice talk with Sir James tonight. Time for the Tardis! Hope Mike, Kurt, RT and Doug are still awake? Don? Just turn on the beacons guys
Signed up for OT on Saturday, but we are off on Monday anyway. Waiting for TRAINZ shipment
Good Morning. Seems I have had the time to get on here a bit more lately. Have a early case to go in for.
Doug, hope they tackle that fire before long. It is amazing how fast it can grow. And as mentioned, nice bridge.
I got a few emails of auctions I won this morning. Two DL&W Hoppers from K-Line (Diecast). Also won some old CTT magazines (one with Ward Kimball on the front). and some Artista figures for the layout. And Yes, I am still on restriction.
God Bless,
HI GIZ,

Good morning all,
IIABSDISEI with temps in the 70s. My wife and I had a nice birthday supper for my dad last night. He turned 81. He is still active and has his daily routines so that is good. Got another e-mail from Lucas last night. He does have a touch of the dramatic, that is for sure. I think sometimes he misses being the center of attention. Oh, well, we will get thru this as we have in the past. Looked at the new MTH Tinplate catalog on line last night. Nothing that trips my switch, so to speak. I had some additional variety on the dining car for breakfast this morning. Boys' soccer team starts sectional play tonight. I hope everyone has a good day.
Mornin' boys. Fair and 61 here in the Mid-Atlantic region. Looks like Mother Nature is gonna cut me some slack with the rain, thus allowing me to finish painting before the weekend. Kids are off of school today, so will solicit their help. My right wrist is smarting.
laz - That's gotta be Day 181 without a mishap for MILLERSBURG YARDS. I think you are back in the running for the HARRIMAN AWARD.
GOOD MORNING ALL
The sun is shining and its going to be near 70,ah it feels good. I need to cut the grass but will wait till the dew dries, guess that means this afternoon. Another job is I want to recover the boat so the snow and rain won't make ponds on the cover. Trains! well its going to be a long winter. Have a great day........S.J.
Good Morning
Suppose to see a 10 to 15 degree drop in temperature today, then heat up on Sunday with the Santa Ana winds off the desert. Late summer!
Been working a lot of weekends, not doing much good, but that's the way it goes. Havn't spent much time with the trains either. Did get a new woodside UP scale caboose, had it a month and the marker light went out. Surprisingly have a new one on the way, (light), and covered under warranty, no shipping costs. Also been looking at layout trying to figure out how to incorporate an elevated track. Havn't had much sucess yet.
The news just keeps getting worse, hopefully we will hit the bottom soon, wouldn't it be something if it happened on election day?
Jim F, great news about the wife's position!!
I like all the improvements in the Tardis, especially the time adjustable ATM machine.
Chris is really doing well, he got a promotion at Sports Authority to auditor. But, that required a full time position (37 hours), which creates some concern, trying to keep school the first priority. Tough being young. So I imposed some requirements;
1. Gets FREE room and board IF he is a full time student. (13 units or more). This has been the rule from the begining.
2. If he works more than 24 hours a week, rent is $50/week
3. If he works more than 32 hours a week, rent is $100/week.
The above didn't go over too well, didn't seem fair, then I explained he has a Rebate program he can take advantage of ;
At the end of the semester, (based upon individual semester, not cummulative) if the GPA is 3.5 or higher, he gets 80% refund of all rent, (I reserve the right to grant 100% if I so decide.)
If the GPA is 3.0 to 3.5, then the refund is 50%, if it is 2.5 to 2.99 then it is 25%, less than 2.5 then NADA.
So this seems to be working, and the best part is that his grades are up, and doing well, saving a lot of his paycheck. Sometimes I wonder if I'm imposing the correct values given the situation today. Borrow lots, payback little, let gov't bail you out. (Sorry)
Hope everyone has a great day!!!

Don,
"Sorry", for what? If the truth hurts, so be it. Thanks to our sleazy politicians, both parties, and the lack of knowledge of the term "Personal Responsibility" by the general public we are in this situation.
Morning!
Don, Doug: I agree! Last CEO was there for 17 days...One who caused one mess was out and free...Both candidated should have said they will personally see to locking up those responsible. They should have seized the assets of the CEO's responsible and then sorted things out. That should help speed thing up.
On another note...how 'bout those Acorn canvasers?
Oh ya, I worked on the GG1 today.

Doug, I didn't want to bring political/economic issues here. But I certainly agree, plenty of blame, a bipartisian issue!! And you hit it on the head regarding "Personal Responsibility", Congress opened the door, people who couldn't all of a sudden could, and of course there was money to be made, so everyone jumped in. Ignoring reality and accountability, and now the bubble bursted. I think I will start filling out all those credit card applications I keep getting in the mail, after all its FREE money, right?
Dennis,
Don't you just love this headline:
Christian family drama `Fireproof' has unexpected success, makes top 10 for 2 weeks in a row
You'd think the only thing successful at the box office is the garbage that Hollyweird puts out.
