Good mornin', ya'll, and those across the pond,

Wow.  The sun still exists and clouds don't dominate the earth.  Sunny and 70 now, 78 later.  The ocean effect usually moderates temperatures around my place year round.  Haven't had to run the a/c much the last 10 days, humidity notwithstanding.  That being said, my July electric bill should arrive shortly and it won't be pretty.

MIL July visit coupled with 90 temps = mega bill.....   Also, I can just imagine the impact of the putrid (90s and HUMID) day of my granddaughter's b-day party when my wife insisted I have the a/c cranking while 45 people were running in and out of the house.  Food buffet was set up indoors/kitchen so heat wouldn't spoil the food.  The kiddies were being ushered in and out so they wouldn't pee in the pool, or worse.  The men were running in and out, visiting the facilities (couldn't be the beer, could it?) and catching sports scores.  Women were doing the 5 trips per hour in and out while grazing and making multiple pottie stops, then kicked the in/out afterburners when the desserts were layed out.  Everyone standing in the doorway, yakking with the door wide open.

Chuck.....loved the used transmission fluid comparison to red eye gravy, it was the best, most accurate too.  While the crude futures have fallen about 25% per gallon from the peak, gas prices (87) here at $3.75 are down just 8% from the peak.  Food prices for the guys who follow it are out of control.  Our dog food is up about 20% too!  Coffee prices as Chuck pointed out.....well, beer is looking more attractive price wise as a morning beverage.

DougM.....bar cars on the commuter rail here have been gone for over 2 decades here.  Everyone would make a quick pit stop in the bars at both North and South Stations here before jumping on a train home.  Wonder if the New York transit system still has them?

Laz.....if both you and your wife were laying in the hammock, who was going for the frosties and ice cream?  Visiting the dentist, not my favorite activity.  Avoiding the dentist, much worse, sooner or later.  I still want to have my tooth when I am buried.  What's all the racket about pet turtles and disease?  I had them for years, no problem, and I am certain as a kid I wasn't washing my hands with disinfectant soap after handling.  They enjoyed the bathtub while I was cleaning the tank, mother not amused.

Rich.....I figured you were pouring yourself into a car restoration.  Don't know how you squeeze that into your schedule, a labor intensive, time-consuming hobby.

Sir James.....problem with a CT is that while you are trying to stay still and take a nap with the music playing, nurse keeps startling you over the sound system in an urgent voice, asking if you are ok, then starts telling you to lie still in a stern voice.  If they don't want you to move, then why do they keep startling you?

Right about now, RaySP is racking up a big "plumber's" bill.  At least they are giving him drugs to calm things down.

MikeC.....I get angry when I hear some sports people, even coaches, saying things like "If you do your best but lose, you are a loser."  From an early age, I was taught that success is a function of natural ability, persistence and dedication, and blind luck.  And I still haven't met anyone who has all 3 at the same time.

DennisD and Buckeye.....re the "eat crow" comments, I wonder if a certain someone removes the feathers and lead pellets before applying his vinegar BBQ marinade.

Ciao,

Jack

Afternoon guys,

Jack a.k.a. RockIsland52, Looks like Texas sort of got hit by our storms. Any way we need the rain that those storms would have brought to south Florida.

Not much else going on here except to get ready for the train show on saturday in Lake Worth(just south of West Palm Beach FL). If anybody from this part of Florida is reading this the show is at the Polish American Club on Lake Worth road near Military Trail, if you need better directions than that email me on here-it goes to my personal email.

Got to run, have to go to work.

RockIsland52, Grits don't have much of a taste by themselves.  It all depends on what you put on them.  I like to drag a fried egg yoke through them while eating.  Black pepper helps and butter.  I think in the old days they were used to fill up hungry people when food and money was scarce.  Same thing goes for oat meal.

Chief, I'm always ready to talk about vinegar based North Carolina Bar-B-Q.  I have the receipe from my brother in Virginia if I ever get up enough energy to tackle the preparation.  He used to work for a company that sold Bar-B-Q commercially.  I know you offered to check out buying BBQ by mail order and I appreciate the offer but I got sticker shock when I got a price from another rail fan who gave me the name of a place in Kinston, N.C.  I think it was "Kings".

Well I have to go now for my test this morning.  It's more like afternoon.  Check in at 11:00AM and the test starts at noon.  Thanks to all for the good wishes.  Ray

Afternoon all!

Ran the new well car...says it will work on the 31" curves...well...ya, if you don't have a 180-degree 31" curve with a switch...Well car kept clipping the switch, and derailing.  Very cool car, but big.

Good day at work today, finished up a tough subject and everyone seemed to "get it".  Can't wait until tomorrow when things get back to normal for a while.  Jack, I let Chief use the TARDIS last week for a few hours - you don't think he got up to something do you?  He did have several large bags with him....  Laugh [(-D]

Good evening,

Spent another day at the Museum cataloging pictures.  Today I worked on negatives, which I have been putting off as long as possible.  In order to do it with any accuracy I have been scaning them and then inverting them with photoshop to get a positive image so I can see what I am doing.  This takes a lot of time.

Doug, That car is neat. Thumbs Up [tup]

Chief, Todd's should notice an increase in sales now that you are getting that big check every month. Smile,Wink, & Grin [swg]

I thought we rode free, if we showed them our official OTTS Membership cards and wore our official OTTS Shirts with the embroidered emblem.   I think I would like to take that ride.  I wonder if Wes would like to go, too.   Maybe OTTS Member Don would fly out to Ohio.   Tom, Doug, Barny, Moe, Curly, Leroy, Doc, Larry, Joe, Chris, Mike, Steve, CSX, George, Roy, daGrump, Stu, Stan, Slats, fife, 88, 89, 90, 92, 10-4, pooch, Brutus, Kurt, Spike, DJ, Cooljocky, Florida Lee, Englishman, Pittsburgh Nick, Melvin, Colin, Sir J, Rock, RT, Pittsburgh Marty, Laz, John, Greg and the whole gang might want to ride.  We could ask the Chief....Oh, I fogot.  He's not a OTTS member because of that incident three and one-half years ago.  Laugh [(-D] Remember the last time the Chief was in Ohio?  The day after he left, the State declared a three day holiday for us to rejoice.

I heard from Brutus earlier but can't find him now, guess he has chores.

Good Morning.  A quick stop by before getting my Pt.  Been real crazy lately.  I heard the Russians invaded Georgia!  I just hope they don't mess up too much while they are here.  Clean up after yourselves!  Have not had a chance to check out the olympics other than a passing story while in the lounge waiting on the next case.

Laz, had a interesting day Tuesday.  Came home and family was getting ready for dinner.  Wife looks out the kitchen window and a doe was looking in....guess she wanted to know what the grub of the day was.  Then, dog was going nuts at one of the front windows.  Go to take a look, an owl was in the front yard making a meal of a furry animal.  Kind of neat seeing all that.  Then the flood gates opened and it rained for two days.

Hope everyone is doing well.

God Bless,

Dennis

Morning from beautiful Southern Ohio

Really nice morning.  Cool and clear.  Like you've said this is the mildest August as far as that goes, summer, I can remember.  We've ran our exhaust fan at night instead of the A/C most of the time.  Our July electric bill was $69.

Doug - That car was beautiful!

Buckeye & Chuck - Count me in for the steam excursion!  I'll get the T shirt washed up.

Dennis- When start showing up in two's let us know.

Well off to work.

May God bless

Good Morning from Blueberryhill....

It is a cloudy 62 degrees. Going up to 78 today, with some sunshine and a chance of rain later.

Today is an easier day. Got all the errands run yesterday. I think I will spend some time in the train room and relax. Need to dust a little. I want to run the trains for a few hours.

Dining car is here and it's time for breakfast. Later.

Y'all have a great Thusday.
