Hey guys, thanks for offerring to help with the SP & FW RLWY. I've done some checking of flight schedules and room availability. Looks good so far.

First would be an air charter:

Have to be a little careful though, last time out they made an un-scheduled stop in some desert.

Second is the limo arrangements:

Limos are in short supply.

Third is the hotel, no Hyatt here:

Ain't the fanciest but does come with free breakfast:

Let me know so I can confirm with the undertaker I mean reservationist. Whistling [:-^]

Good Morning from Blueberryhill....

It is a beautiful, clear 62 degrees. Sun is shining. Going up to 84 today with sunshine.

Today is a less busy day. I have a few errands to run and the usual chores to do. Then, I will probably mow the back yard. Grass is growing slower than a few weeks ago. Have not made it down to the train room, yet, this week. Looks good for the weekend.

Dining car is here and it's time for breakfast. Later.

Y'all have a great Thursday.

Morning all. Sunny and cool here. Beautiful day! We were awakened by a malfunctioning Co2 alarm last night or rather this morn at 330. Maybe I'll get a nap in later today.

Buckeye, I'm sure Brutus and Laz wouldn't mind dropping you and John off in the Tardis. I'll bring some cookies for dessert.

Good mornin', ya'll, from the "Home of the First American Navy":

With all of the talk of the Ohizo navy (CSXect et al), I thought I would start the day off posing a true historical question, and I'll bet none of you guys know the answer.  Do any of you know where the first home of the American Navy was established, and when?

Sorry about disappearing again but have been too busy to post to the Pot.  The uptick in Forum posts has me scrambling just trying to read all the posts to keep up with what's going on.  Sorry about the one word post yesterday, Wes (Dad), but my grandfather once told me it's important to keep in touch with my relatives. Smile,Wink, & Grin [swg]

DougDG......that charter plane you got for us to come out and help you repair your garden railroad looks exactly like the C130 that appeared in ConAir (quite appropriate for our purposes) with Nicholas Cage, and that one crashed in the middle of downtown Las Vegas.  Hope the repairs hold up better than the electronics on some of the modern train engines everyone has been posting about.  Laugh [(-D]  (Couldn't resist.)  And regarding your comments about the "submarine races," isn't that where the expression "You can't tell the players without a scorecard" came from?  BTW, please take note that Chuck may not be able to make the trip if it occurs when he is scheduled to vacuum his layout. Smile,Wink, & Grin [swg]

Chief....once again, you are too modest.  I was looking at DougDG's picture describing the "free breakfast" we get when we visit him and didn't know there was an action figure of you available for sale to the public.  The action figure of you in Doug's picture, complete with stitches in head, and exiting the garden with buckets of fruits and vegetables, looks somewhat younger and a few pounds lighter than the real deal, don't you think? Cool [8D]  Last Sunday in New Hampshire I consulted my dog trainer about Burg's stern demeanor around your puppy, Lucy, and her response was, "You know Chief too?" Smile,Wink, & Grin [swg]

Chuck.....loved the Ohizo Defense warning sign you posted of the dog warning Roseyville trespassers "I can get to the edge of my property in 2.8 seconds.  Can you?"  I was going to post a small version of one of those in the sidelight windows by my front door, right next to the sticker that tells police and firefighters how many and what types of pets are in the house in the event of an emergency.  Wife nixed the idea, thought that would be counterproductive in the event of a house fire. Smile [:)]

Laz.....better check with DougDG about luggage restictions and DDG fees as I am not certain how many cases of Old Mil you are allowed to check with your baggage.  Do they even sell Old Milwaukee in California?

John/jefelectric and DougM.....I checked with the Pot Archives, the U.S. Marshalls' office, the CIA, the FBI, the NSA, NASA, the DEA, the Pentagon, the Department of Defense, the Bureau of Alcohol Tobacco and Firearms, the INS, the Department of Homeland Security, Dog the Bounty Hunter, and four internet-addicted teenagers.  None of them could figure out where Roger's Corners is either, so I don't feel quite so ignorant after all of Buckeye's comments.  And on the topic of Roger's Corners and Buckeye's photo, what exactly is in that silo?  Part of the Roger's Corners missile defense system?

Roger....was surprised how early your Granddaughters will be back in school before Labor Day.  What the schools do here is start the children late, take a whole bunch of unnecessary snow days off, take necessary snow days off, and then keep the kids in non-a/c'd school buildings through 90 degree summer days until July to meet the MA. state-mandated required number of classroom instructional hours.  Perhaps the rationale is that it toughens up the kids up. Banged Head [banghead]

Dennis......I feel your post vacation pain.  It's time to refresh your vacation state of mind by presenting a pc slide show to the family with the pictures you took on the NJ Shore.  You did take pictures, didn't you? Tongue [:P]

RT.......I sympathize with your most recent and possibly expensive train electronics dilemma.  My advice is to pull out your postwar conventionals and carry on without the gadgets Laugh [(-D]  Couldn't resist.....you do have some of those, don't you, and a transformer that will run them?

Rich and MikeC.....your softball and soccer teams sound like the classic, late-season Chicago Cubs (no, they ain't gonna do it this year either, DougM).

Finally, and last but not least, Brent seems to have fallen off the face of the earth.  Death by chocolate, I presume.

Smile and make it a good day.

Jack

Morning All !  Lots to report on.........

Took Monday/Tuesday off work, (comp days), installed a bypass on the layout, it proides for a passing track on the mainline.  Had to do some framework under the new area, and of course its in tight quarters.  Got the benchwork, top surface, track/switches installed now just have to wire 'em and connect to the DCS system.  Also installed 5 illuminated Lionel bumpers.  That too required benchwork extension, surface and track installation, they to work.

Then after that was all done, and I was cleaning up the room, we lost power for about 5 hours.  What was strange about that was that it only affected about 2 blocks of our one street only!  I had the neighbor believing that it was due to my layout, he didn't appreciate the humor in that however.

Talked with Lionel service yesterday, SOUNDS LIKE they are getting to my engine!  It arrived there on June 17, and been sitting waiting in que.  Maybe?? get it back in a week or 10 days!  Also discussed the recharging battery problem I've been having.  They are sending me a new set of batteries, that may resolve the problem.  Hopefully, hate to have to send in the Legacy, AGAIN!!!

Since, I was talking to service, called MTH also.  Wanted to check on leaving the TIU powered via the aux p/s, 24/7.  (TIU and TMCC needs to power  up prior to track power).  Got the "all clear", but think I'm going to replace my Master power switch with a Duplex switch, and still maintain the startup sequence, and have everything power down.

Also, had our club meeting last night.  One of the major topics discussed was removing a turntable, that has never been operational.  Going to replace it with a 3 Way Ross switch.  I am planning to get a couple more 11 degree switches for my layout, so will get the 3 way also.  Ugh, some of the new plans!!!  Of course we have a "artist" type, along our back wall we have two paralled maintracks that run about16 to 18 feet.  So they are going to put a tunnel in for the majority of the length (15') and hiding both main lines.  Intent is to have a upper level and that will have some On30 track on it it!  BAD idea, I think I will be challenging it all.  Told a few lastnight, that people come there to see trains run, NOT to see styrofoam mountains and cliffs.

We'll see what happens!!

Off to work, hope everyone has a good day!

It has been awhile since I've had a chance to post here. I've been working five or six days each week.  Just got an original 2332 GG1.  Runs good.

RT,

I think there is a fuse in the PM adapter cable.  Maybe it blew, and that is why the PM isn't getting power.

Brutus,

Did you ever play Mad Dog McCree or Mad Dog 2: The Lost Gold? They were in arcades in the early to mid 90s. Several home versions were available.  I've got the Sega CD version of both games.  Now they are available for play on the PC, a DVD player, PS2, and Xbox.  It is great to see that they have been brought back.

DougM.....As a born-and-raised-in-Chicago boy, I truly didn't mean to be cynical or trash on the Cubs.  It's just that I have been futilely pulling for them for over five decades, through thick and thin.  Back a couple of years ago during the playoffs when I foolishly thought that the Cubs and Red Sox might face off in the Fall Classic, the Impossible Dream, I had my hopes dashed in one season by two teams.

I fondly recall as a young boy the 1959 baseball season when the Go-Go Chicago White Sox ultimately captured the AL Pennant.  I would lay awake nights, listening to games on one of the early battery powered transistor radios, long after my parents thought I was asleep.

On the night the White Sox clinched the AL pennant, I had dozed off with the radio on but was alarmingly awakened by my terrified parents and ushered off to the basement, radio in hand, to take shelter against a pre-emptive nuclear attack by the Russians.  The soon-to-be-fired Fire Commissioner, without prior discussion or warning and on the spur of the moment, had decided to turn on all of the Civil Defense air raid sirens located throughout the entire City.  His intention was to notify the citizenry that the White Sox had won the pennant.

Back in the post WWII days, the U.S. government and we the citizenry took the Russians, their formidable nuclear arsenal (bombs and ICBMs), and their mantra of world-wide Cummunist domination quite seriously......probably hard for many on the Forum to fathom or appreciate.

Non sports buffs in Chicago who were not watching the baseball game were terrified at the unexpected sounds of the air raid sirens.  Sports buffs watching the game were terrified too.  No one made the connection between the Sox' pennant-clinching victory and the air raid sirens.  All we knew was that the end of the world was near.

The Dodgers nailed the Sox quickly in the World Series that year, in four games if I recall correctly.  The Fire Commisioner was promptly axed.  And the Russians didn't try to play the nuclear card in earnest until a couple of years later in 1961 during the Cuban missile crisis and the the near-Armegeddon nuclear standoff in the Carribean, about 90 miles off Key West Fla.  Relatively speaking, that's about the distance between Chicago and Milwaukee, or NYC and Philly.

The Cubs have to play too many day games in the sun and heat at Wrigley, unless they have lifted or moderated that 18 night games max mandate.  The baseball buffs on the Pot would be hard-pressed to find a baseball team with more hall of famers than the 1969 Cubs who led the NL by about 11 or 12 games in late August, only to fold up like a lawn chair down the stretch and yield to the Mets, didn't even make it to the World Series.

Yep JACK they have had it since '86.  We were in ESCONDIDO building my SISTER  and BRO IN LAWs house back then and had it after July 4th.  Until then we had to drink SCHAFFER.  You know "when your having more then one".  Great jingle.

Afternoon all.  Been out viewing possible High School property and meeting with owner.  Got another possible site too.  Brad next door was fired from Rite Aid and given orders to never set foot on property.  PD got report that he was headed there with knife to kill them all.  Then case worker said he was afraid they were going to kill him and he was taking protection.  Then Chief recommended that he be committed.  Case worker followed up and he was taken into custody yesterday about 6 PM.  Involuntarily committed.  When they picked him up he was in black speedo and had his finger nail paited one color and toe nails another.  PD made him put on pants.  Dr. kept him and he is in State' main mental institution.  calling Mom to come get his dog.

Now to kill the ground hog that has moved in.

Lunch time.  Later.

When we get down on our lot in life, we only have to look around us to see how truly blessed we may be on a comparative basis.  Pity the guy, his family, and his dog, even if he did a lot to contribute to his own dilemma.  My old man used to say matter of factly "Cheer up, things could be worse."

Yes, kind of like the story of the guy who was complaining about having no shoes until he saw a guy with no feet.

BTW:  got email this AM indicating Lionel received my Legacy yesterday.  This was followed by an email indicating it was upgraded and shipped back [with tracking number].  Now that is fast.

PS: checked the tracking number and delivery tomorrow

Jack, The charter company doesn't have any acft of the vintage of a C-130, they are of the belief that the acft should reflect the cargo, a.k.a. passengers. Since it would be a charter for some elderly gentleman and their entourage they dusted of their very best, a C-119. The one and only Flying Boxcar, quite appropriate for a bunch of train geeks don't you think. Big Smile [:D]

Good evening,

Glad to see that DougDG, is rolling out the red carpet for us Buckeye.

Any Jet fans on this tread?  What do you think of old #4 joining the team?

Stopped by Barry's Train Shop today to pick up the new Lionel and K-line catalogs. While there I got a NIB Lionel Reading caboose from the early 90s and a new controller for a Z-750 transformer. As I was checking out the displays I spotted a PRR MIa by Lionel. It had a low price on it and found out that it was used, looked like new. Turned out that I knew the former owner, who had passed away earlier this year at 97. To make this long story shorter, Mike twisted my arm until I bought it. It is scale and has TMCC, Legacy Speed Control and RS 4.0. Think it was in the 2003 catalog. We ran it at the shop and it ran and sounded great, has the Long tender with the doghouse. Will post a picture when I get it unpacked. One more thing, it has smoke of course, but the former owner never turned it on. I noticed that the stack was clean and Mike said he could not stand the smoke. Will give that a try as I like smoke!

Good evening everyone.  Had to take kids to orientation for school which starts in the morning.  I have a few cases to do and will not be able to attend the first day, but we will make up for it.  Made arrangements today for two interviews to fill our open position.  I hope we get a quality guy in soon.  Gotta run, but I hope everyone is doing well, except a ground hog that by now has assumed room temperature!

I think you mean medium-well.  Dinner [dinner]  Good luck with the interviews!

Brutus:  A visit to the Chief's place may be questionable with all the strange goings on, and dinner menu....I'm in for a roadtrip!.  Thanks for bringing the rain, albeit in a round about way from the north.

John and Sir James:  Great finds!  Can't wait to see photos!  I was tempted by the GG1 as well!  But I decided against it for health reasons...mainly my own.  I enjoy breathing on my own.

Hey gang, the GRITS are ready. Big Smile [:D]  Did add some country ham redeye gravy.  Lucy is a mess.  Wife gets chewed on and etc.  I laugh as she will not do that to me.  She got a few light taps and NO from me.  Now I say, "EAHHHHHK."  She lays down and stops whatever she was doing wrong.  Jumpingest little dog I have ever seen.  Burg still says, "OH my God."  Puts her in her place about three times a day.  Does not hurt her but puts her down.  Can not believe my Legacy went out Monday and will be back tomorrow.   Different story with Lowrance's Rebate Contractor.  Suppose to get Fishing Hot Spots East as rebate for buying new Marine Color GPS.  Sent in in June.  Got email that rebate was valid on 6/23.  Said allow 30 days for delivery.  Means July 23.  Called last week.  Give it 15 days for delivery.  Call back next week.  So called today.  Give it 30 days to get to you as we can not reorder until 30 days.  I was not nice and said a few @#%*~ .   Filed a complaint with Lowrance by email.  Probably will not do any good.

Will say Good night and sleep tight.  Don't let the bed bugs bite.

The one and only Flying Boxcar, quite appropriate for a bunch of train geeks don't you think. Big Smile [:D]

You don't really need to worry unless the pilot has an uncanny resemblence to Jimmie Stewart. Whistling [:-^]

DougDG......speaking of Jimmy Stewart, can't you just picture this bunch, having crashed in the Mojave, reassembling the plane parts in order to resume their trip.....with one of them on a cell phone asking Bob Nelson some wiring questions?  Forced to eat grits to survive. At least they wouldn't die of thirst because Laz brought his Old MILs, and the finished product would reflect that. Laugh [(-D]

Kurt, I have reached the point where the wife looks and says MORE, but I can't take her to the store she wants me to buy things I have tried to pass up. They like to see her walk in with me.

Sir James....this sounds too easy.  I suspect you conveniently left out the part where you took her to the train store after lunch and a few margueritas. Big Smile [:D]
