I said something to the waiter on the Silver Meteor coming home from New York and she agreed. Said to order the plain omelet as it does contain real eggs. Madge ordered grits on the North bound Silver Star but we got there too late. (Go to diner early, before 8:00 A.M. if you want grits.) Had hash browns instead. They looked good but tasted about like the scrambled eggs.

Just returned from the Queen City of the Ohio. (For those of you in NC that is Cincinnati. ) Was it ever balmy, but did not see anyone playing golf. Took a little extra time to get to our meeting due to a slow NS Trailer Train.
Last night in Buckeyeland, we knew we were in big trouble when just after the coin toss the ref said, "Ya'all stand over here boys."
Chuck, your package arrived safe and sound, but real late. UPS delivered it just before 7 pm tonight. Can't wait to open it. BTW, what is the date of the big steak fry this summer? Since Laz didn't get a deer, your steak fry will be the highlight of the summer.

1) Try Home Depot or Lowes for the levelers, failing that. I'd try a real Hardware store (Ace?)2) There are a couple of Railroadiana shows coming up, I'll keep an eye out for ya.
Yeah, sometimes I wish I had been able to go on those real railroad trips, would have kinda neat.

Brent...If we have a show in Columbus that sells railroad china, I would imagine your area has one too. Just remember, coffee creamers are not cheap!!! It has been a not so good day went to a consignment shop to see if I could sell some of my now too big clothes some of which have never been worn they were not interested in big mens clothes.So I went to hardware store and found some t-nuts and leg levelers only bright part of day. Will check around town to see if anyone(consignment shops) will buy some of my stuff if not they will go in a yard sale failing that will donate them to the free store(a thrift store/mission run by united methodist)where they freely give to those in need

I heard on radio this AM that the National Championship team was not OSU or LSU. Maybe ASU [Appalachian State Univ.] . Especially since so many OSU fans are wearing those ASU tee shirts. Grayson, looks like those Yanks would learn. They lost to FL last year. Don't come South. What happens twice, happens trice.

Ebay is a great place to find and buy RR china. Just do a search on Railroad China. There are several good books out there that identify the china that was used on different trains. Some patterns were used on several trains. And more than one type of China was used on a particular line. Prices can vary a lot. As an example, the Milwaukee Road had a type of china manufactured for the Tip Top Tap, called Dulaney. There was only one run of the china by Syracuse China. I have seen small damaged pieces go for hundreds of dollars. Their regular dining car china for may years was a Syracuse Pattern called Niagra - white with a single dark green line I think. It can be had for a few dollars a piece sometimes (Its a very common pattern but not marked) Most of the china was ordered from stock patterns that were made by the major restaurant china manufacturers. The ones used on the trains were usually back stamped with the name of the railroad. I have usually tried to buy a representative piece that is not back stamped, they are much cheaper. I also found that buying butter pats (which is a whole collecting genre unto itself) lets you have a piece of the pattern in a much smaller size.
Its dangerous to have been born with a collector gene.

To add to the china request by Brent; The mainline of the B&O ran through Northern Ohio and Indiana. Garrett, IN and Williard, OH were crew change locations. Assuming a train left Chicago in the evening for the east coast, supper was served in the dining car just after entering Indiana. By the time the train reached Garrett supper was over and everything was to be cleaned before the crew change. If the dishes were still dirty as they approached Garrett, the crew would just "Frisbee" them out the open car door. The locals would scour these areas and find complete sets of dinnerware.
I can't verify the story, but I have seen broken pieces of china along tracks many years ago.
Helloooo! Well, nothing much going on here. Wife got the new chairs today and they took the ripped up couch (Chewy!) out to the curb. Have to figure out how to sit in the big seat recliner with the laptop - any tips (sic) for me Chief?
Sir James, we have some candy bars the wife bought - unfortunately, Chewy got up on the chair somehow and got into them! She is hungover from the sugar and chocolate (luckily only milk chocolate) and sleeping on the other old couch (the one she didn't chew up) that we kept.
No train stuff today guys, sorry. Maybe tomorrow!

Brent, I got the levelers (B) in this pic from Woodcraft - It's about $9 for 4 and includes the nuts - just fyi. You just have to make a simple jig from a scrap of 2x4. Drill through the center. Add a back board so you can clamp to the bottom of your 2x4 feet. Then drill the feet! I drilled to the end of the bit, then removed jig and drilled again to the end of the bit so there would be lots of room in the recess inside the table leg.

88 There are quite a few doodles in the B & O Historical Society that collect that china. Some can even describe the different styles of bisque. (bisque. Hey that's fun to say too...I digress) There is a TRANSPO show up at Timonium every year, and there are usually a few tables of the stuff. ALSO, spend an afternoon in Ellicott City. I recall seeing various B&O "blue" china in different shops a while back. I don't recall ever seeing WESTERN MARYLAND china.

The china isn't very high on my list right now, would rather get the layout started and all before getting stuff for the walls (knock-off during construction hazzard).

Just a suggesstion, instead the swiveling foot how about a carriage bolt thru the tee nut and place one of those plastic/fiberglass supersliders under the carriage bolt ???????

I did a little research and discovered that Western Maryland did indeed have china. It is a very simple pattern, white with a narrow and a wide band around it in dark green. There is also a "monogram" of an M and a W intertwined in a circle. It has recently been reproduced. The other railroads that you mention each had several different patterns of china used on different trains. Its actually fun to drink your morning coffee out of a cup or mug that "rode the rails". It has that taste of coal smoke and oil.

It is a cloudy 44 degrees. Going up to 48 today with some sunshine. The last few days have felt like spring. Now it's colder.
Today is the day to drive into Cambridge and do the weekly grocery shopping. Gas prices here are cheaper by 15 cents a gallon, compared to Cambridge. Must be old gas.
No time for trains today. I will be in train room tomorrow.

Morning all. Last night was interesting. One thirty in the morning and my phone starts ringing, Its my Accuweather service there is a warning for severe thunderstorms, half hour later it's ringing again this time high wind warning. All Ive got to say is WOW havnt seen it blow like that in a long time. Glad I was at work last night wife said her and the kids were up about every hour. Time to go mess with the trains till daylight then clean up all the branches. Have a great day everyone.
