Been working on the benchwork design (so I know how each section fits together).  The layout is being designed so it can be broken down and taken with me if we move.

The dark blue area are openings so I can popup and fix things if necessary.

Each section is 49" x 30"... by using 4x4 posts I'm hoping I won't have to run stringers between each leg...

Morning all

CSXect-If you donate your clothes you can ask for a receipt and it is tax deductible.  St. Vincent DePaul does it all the time.

Chief/Brent- I used the same levelers on different projects they work well.

I have a tendency to over build, and as such, it is strong, but very heavy.  Girder framework is very strong yet lightweight, like trusses.  4x4 are a bit of overkill.  Your joinery is a good idea.  I love the Keg Pocket screw jig for joining.  Incredible strength for joints.  Also use a good carpenter glue.  A few diagonal braces adds a lot of strength with minimal weight.

Got to go.

May God bless

Morning all. Sunny and back to normal (30s) here. Class went well last eve.

On the commute home, I commiserated with my old-head conductor friend (we read CTT together) who had just heard of the death of one of his buddies with 40 yrs on the road who was killed accidently by a train at the Waukegan stop. This fellow had trained him. Isn't that sad? Sad [:(]

Jason, glad you're OK. Winds derailed a UP train on the Janesville line a few miles north of me on Tues.

It sure is interesting to hear about railroadiana. I have a conductor's pouch from a defunct short line - the K&B - have to look it up again, and some paperwork from defunct interurbans and the North Western.

Don, is that red locomotive on the bottom shelf made of wood -it looks neat!

Brutus, is Chewey allowed on the new chairs?

If Chuck is serving free beer this summer, I'll drive 800 miles for it Wink [;)]

Brent, where did your bride find the blueprint of the EM-1?

Good Morning, just checking in.  Seems the chat is a lot more civil these past two days.  Glad.  Work is a little crazy, but when done, I will be taking the car to the dealer to get it serviced for our trip to Disney.  I ordered some Upper Quadrant signals for the layout from Z-stuff.  I really like these and hope to get them wired this next week.  It was a little self birthday present.

Anyway, it is raining and we will be sure to send it your way Chief.  Take care,

Dennis

Haven't noticed rtraincollector, but have noticed that Jim a.k.a. Jaabat has not been on for a little while. Hope that both are doing well, maybe vacation time or bad weather has hampered internet service.

Picked up the DVD of "3:10 To Yuma" yesterday and just finished watching. Intense old style western with modern day technology--think of an action movie with horses/guns/bad guys/indians/sheriff's/saloons/and a real live steam engine that show's up late :) Russell Crowe does an amazing job as does the rest of the cast. Not for the young kids.

Morning all!  Hope everyone is well.  We got hit by wind and rain last night about 3:30am.  I thought the roof would rip off.  Kept me up till about 5am.  Cats were all wound up as well.  Seems to have escaped any damage.

Other than that I have an empty schedule today.  Take care all.

Chuck & Doug

Yep, It is made of Mahogony.  The wheels do not turn but the trucks do spin.  The detail is really outstanding considering it is made from wood.  Picked it up a couple of years ago, at the Arizona State Fair.  I have seen them at a few of the local county fairs.  They are actually made in Viet Nam, the guy had a display of airplanes, helicopters,  sports cars,  and this one train.  The other stuff really was nice as well!!  It is approximately G scale in size.  Glad you liked it.

Doug - Sorry to hear about that accident.

BTW Chuck, Anymore animals this morning?  Chris and I were camping with the YMCA on Catalina Island, woke up in the morning and the campsite had about 18 Buffalo in it.  That was quite a site!

Don....Buffalo on Catalina Island. They are big.

There is a place in Dover, Ohio, that is the Walther Museum. The man was a Master Carver. Wood, Ivory and Ebony. He carved a lot of trains. They are absolutely beautiful. He did one of a " Big Boy " that is perfect to G scale. They are all on display. That made me wonder about yours, which looks fabulous.

Civic duties over.  Carried back anwsering machine and portables.  Came home and same garbled message when you call but play back is perfect.  Whispered in the recorder 2 feet away.  Works. [(-D] instructions say talk 9" away with normal tone  Guess the original one was OK.  Funny how play back was so plain but when answering a call, garbled. Confused [%-)]

Lee and Brent, don't ask.

Evening all from beautiful Southern Ohio

Mid 70'sF and sunny.  Man I wish I was working on the roofing!  I did get the garage doorlock in cables adjusted and opening trimmed out.  I'll order fill to build the ramp up.  The floor evelation is about 10" above existing grade.

Not much training going on.  Too nice outside and progress is being made on the garage.  I start night shift tomorrow.  Our pastor is on vacation and I will be leading a communion service this evening, and after that we may take down the Christmas tree.  That is the only decoration left to put away.  Christmas decorations is like vacations in a way, really great but after a while it is good to get back to normal.

Chuck-I've been at the Walthers Muesum.  It is really great place to visit.  Incredible carvings.  Their knives and the like are first rate also.

Check back later

May God bless

Afternoon All !

Got an e-mail from Atlas, they will have folks at this weekend's train show at Del Mar. Hope the others do also.

Back from ordering new washer/dryer, don't see any new loco's in the near future. At least we will be getting some rebates from the local utilities that takes a little bit of the sting out of the cost. Dead [xx(] Hooray for E-Bay !!!!!!  Clown [:o)]

Sent RT an email.  Bounced back.  Now he has been acquiring about new jobs.  One was in NC.  Might be on the move.

The other one we will not go there.  Noticed a lot of old timers back posting here.  Might tell you three something.

Had deer all around me.  Would not come out tonight.  Beagle came through but not barking.  Stired up the bunch.  Later, on snorted at me for 5 minutes but would not move out of the bushes.  Usually if the snort, they run.  Not this one.

Later

PS: tried RT's home number, got machine, left word.  Might try his cell later.  BELOW, Sir J, GRITS and then you would be full and not getting hungry. Laugh [(-D]

Good evening everyone.  I started working for the DPW of a local town by me while Im on break from school (until feb).  Only my second day, but both days have been beautiful... hope there are many more of those to come.  The best part is that my brother was transfered to my dept from recycling while Im there to make a full road crew of three.

Very disappointed with the NC game on Monday.  When the bucks were up 10-0 I was talking trash to all my buddies who were drinking some hateraid and rooting for LSU.  Wheres the SEC speed?  Big Bad LSU.  31 unanswered points later my hopes were gone.  Although I am looking foward to a very good while still young team in 2008.  I have no problem with 11-2...seems some folks have forgotten about the pre-tressel era.  They think you can win it all every year.

I dont know how many of you have the RFD TV channel, but I think its a pretty nice channel for train buffs.  I'd say there is a some kind of train (real or toy) program once every other day on average.  I cant get enough of the "I love toy trains" series.  Also carries Imus in the Morning.  Well recomended channel even though Im not into rodeo and farming programs.

Now Im going to watch some Ghost Hunters and get some ZZZs

Good evening,

Had an interesting experience today.  When traveling from the "National Toy Train Museum" today on my way to lunch, I had to stop for the lowered crossing gates.  I wondered what was up as they normally don't run during the day this time of year.  Well I had a treat.  The Strasburg 44 toner was towing Reading #902 & #903 toward Strasburg.  I reached for the camera that I always carry in my truck and ---the batteries were dead.  No problem I thought, as I always carry a spare set in the bottom of the case.  I hurried up to the Strasburg parking lot reached for the case and --- only one battery to be found.  I did get to watch while they crossed 896 and backed the pair of F7s onto a track at the PA Rail Musuem.  Stopped and talked to one of the watchers who turned out to be a member of the restoration crew that worked on these diesels.  They are going to be parked at the Museum all winter.  Will try to get some pictures next week if they are not covered with snow by then. Smile [:)]

The nice warm weather has ended, not to bad today, but heading down each day this week.

Good evening everyone,

It was an OK day here. My knee is really swollen again, and my therapist really doesn't like it at all. It was really hard to do anything with it today.

Jefelectric I really need to get out there now. I saw those units in September of 06 behind a hardware store. I never thought I would see them again. Thanks for telling us.

I hope RT is ok.

Have a good rest of the evening everyone.

Good evening all.
The temps are on there way back to normal, below freezing for this time of year. Suppose to snow the rest of the week. My bride had the Christmas tree out on the front porch when I came in from work. I don’t have the patience to pack up the ornaments the way she wants it done, glad I dodged that one. Ran the train with my two year old. He loves pushing the buttons making the coal car dump. Ah the simple things,

How long is the deer season in Rolesville? Bow or Rifle season? Good luck,

Banilla!  On the way!

Doug, sorry to hear of your friend's loss.   Chewy is allowed up on furtniture.  She used to spend a log of time laying on the top of the back of the couch we got rid of.  I think she is a little stressed, and not just from the chocolate.  Got pinewood derby car cut on my little bandsaw.  My son wanted a tobagun (sp?) sled and was going to put a guy on it.  Well, it's a tobagun, but can't figure out a toy figure to put on it, so....  He painted it and I have weights to add once it is dried.  Need to find an old toy figure to screw onto the top though.

RIP Chewy - best dog I ever had.

Colin, prayers for the knee.  Good luck buddy.

Deer season [eastern, Raleigh east] starts with with bow in August, black powder first week in Oct, gun around 13th of Oct thru Jan 1.  Limit 2 hunter's choice, 2 deer [either] and 2 antlerless deer [does and buttonbucks].  [2 deer can not be antlerless deer in central and western sections]  Our problem is so many areas in my county that can not be hunted.  200 yds of a residence, none inside town limits [which a major portion of the county], rifle 8 feet off the ground and so on.  Vehicles kiil more deer than hunters in my county.  Deer in every county in NC.  25 years ago, not so.  Executive Director of Wildlife was a deer hunter.  Had them transported to every county.  Destroyed the small game hunting [quail and rabbit] in NC.  Now over populated.  Same for foxes.  For years, you could not intentionally kill a fox in NC.  All crooked politics.

Talked to RT tonight.  He's around.  Any know of a professional baker's job opening?

Reclinerized reading new OGR and now bed time [popcorn just before that].
