Spring maintenance time...
I'm locking this because 149 pages is a little large to keep dragging around the forum.
Someone feel free to start a new spring 2008 edition.
Thanks,Bergie
[Do NOT e-mail me and accus me a picking on your thread. I'm doing this to all big threads. This is a maintenance issue. I AM NOT singling you out. Thank you. (Can you tell I've received e-mails to this effect recently?)]
Keep going, Greg, don't get discouraged! John, good luck with the surgeons. They are getting better and better. My Dad had surgery nearly 40 years ago after he blew out a disc and he has been pretty good ever since. He does wear a brace/wrap thing to protect his back when he does any kind of heavier work. Doug, hope your daughter has a good trip! Sorry to hear about the van, though.... No train station yet
S.J., Gotcha! You're okay, man - I saw that OGR thread last night, too.
Chuck, how's the waitress doing? Feet okay?
88 - I thought I detected a hint of grits in the coffee this morning?
Mitch - just this morning my son said that I was a fast typist. I'm fair at best, but I also type for a living. I asked if they have taught them to type at school - nope. So, I think I'll get him a typing tutor program. Ultimately, that's what I did, when it became clear to me that I was going to be using this skill so much. It really helped, too! This was in the early days of PC's and I used a freeware program I found on Compuserve, back when I had a 300 Baud modem and the boards were all text, etc.
Come on in Boyd, the water is fine. It's a little warm over in front of Brent, though...
RIP Chewy - best dog I ever had.
Good Friday Morning to ALL
So thats what happened to the coffee,Brent thinks its a urinal. I'll bet it was St.Patricks day.
Woke up early this AM,house smells awful from the window caulking. Too cold to leave windows open but cracked some for at least a small amount of fresh air coming in. I'm sure the furnace doesn't like it,but this is like oil base paint only stronger.
We are going to church for noon service, food after.I asked my wife how many times we have to go before we did not have to take something.WRONG QUESTION.
Sun is trying to break through the clouds but the rain and snow is headed this way so I think the clouds will win today.
Brutus-I gave credit to Mel so there would be no backlash, you understand my drift here. Our redneck mansion made it onto OGR forum.take a look. Happy Easter to All,,,S.J.

No real news at this time, have an appointment next week to talk to a recruiter. I read the requirements listed for the job openings posted on the internet and go on to the next one. I wonder how many positions get filled with someone that has every qualification and skill set listed.
Not much interest in the items I am trying to sell either. There is a train show coming up in a couple weeks, debating whether to see if there are any tables still available.
Hope everyone has a nice Easter weekend. I am going to see the grandson tomorrow. Can't wait!
Good Morning from Blueberryhill....
It is a sunny 30 degrees. Going up to 46 today with a chance of rain later tonite.
Today is a less busy day. A few things to do around the house. Then, I will relax in the train room. Hopefully. I think we are going to cancel our planned trip to the Cleveland area tomorrow, due to the nasty weather that's coming. Lots of snow.
Dining car has been here and we had breakfast.
Y'all have a great Friday.

Well, they are pretty comfortable; and they do have a slimming effect on my tookus. You may be onto something ddg. I shall beef up security.
john - best wishes with the operation.
Grayson - I believe that makes you the youngest poster to reach 1000! Hey, pull my finger. (don't want you getting a big head or something....)
Boyd - Howdy-do.
Roy - I must admit, your AVATAR looks pretty "relaxed"...everybody agree?

Well Brent now you've gone and done it. That statement made me spit coffee all over the keyboard and computer screen. Mitchititis - a term used to describe a person with fingers too fat for the keys with a brain that has turned to mush from conducting too many interviews.
My high school guidance counsleor wouldn't let me take typing because he said, I'd never need to learn to type. A more untrue statement has never been uttered.
Well, finally some action in the hiring front. The HR office notified about 16 classroom teacher of their transfer to the school along with the guidance counselor, music teachers etc. Now I feel like we are making progress.
I really am looking forward to these four days off, then I have a workshop/convention coming up that starts next Friday.
Take care,
Mitch

John, sorry to hear of your dilemma. A friend of mine from Ohio, a golfmaniac, suffered two herniated discs in his back from an auto accident. Long and short of it, after being miserable on and off for 10 years, he could take it no longer and had the surgery. After the surgery and recovery he said his only regret in retrospect was ducking the inevitable. That was 33 years ago and he hasn't mentioned it since. Glad to hear surgeons will be giving you a second opinion first, then make your decision. You deserve to give yourself peace of mind and quality of lifestyle.
Roy, sorry I missed the post where your yunguns finally made it home safe and sound. That's a relief. Your daughter will be able to tell her children that the Apollo astronauts made it to the moon and back quicker than the airlines could get her from NY to Texas.

Good Evening Everyone:
I have been depressed today and have not really felt like posting. While my motion continues to improve, it appears that the long term solution will require surgery. Herniated discs are no fun. While I am worried, I am not prepared to give up golfing, bicycling, hiking and playing with my son. I will be visiting a couple of surgeons next week to decide who I want go slice me up.
Chief: Don't think you are unusual. My son's hearing seems to go away when his grandfather is watching him.
Roy: Glad to hear everyone is home safe and sound.
Mitch: The building looks great! I will look forward to seeing how the building looks when all the furniture has been put in.
Fife: It looks like it might be time to form a posse. Good luck catching those sidewinders.
Grayson: Keep the posts coming! How's the layout coming along?
Everybody have a good night.
Regards,
John

Sir James - love the new signature line! No brownies here, but I've got some icecream and a cookie-cake, how's that guys? Come and get it!
Grayson, congrats on the 1K!
I HAVE MADE IT!!!!!!! DING DING DING DING!!!! MY 1,000 POST!!!!!!
Maybe I should stop posting now, aye?
EVENING ALL
Wifes a little calmer now. she got windows in,living room almost back to normal,I hung the kitchen curtains, cleaned the new windows and then said I quit. Now she is watching the red wings. The two man crew took out one window at a time so I could feel the cold coming in but they were good at getting the new one in pretty fast then they went back after and did all the trim.
Had a good chat with Brutus this morning, very enjoyable I saw he was home and suprised him.Its great to be able to have friends, even though we have not met. Thats something some folks don't understand about the pot.Its friends that make it work. later S.J.
OK Brutus you talked to me and Kurt,so who were the two gentleman you talked to?
Good evening, coffee pot! Had to drop off truck for a service and the guy was trying to tell me I needed a $410 service? Uh, nope - it's not a big service, just oil and rotate tires, thanks. Then, my wife dropped us off at Blockbuster while she did some shopping. Finally, grabbed some burgers and had a chance to sit down again. Feet are up.
Had great talks with Sir James this morning and Kurt this afternoon! Two fine gentlemen, great talks, and some good laughs too!
No CTT yet, but I got my new issue of the TCA magazine and a letter from a friend in SC.

What a busy day. Gas was at $3.27 a gallon.
There was a lot of flooding in the Cambridge area. That's located at the intersection of Interstate 77 and Interstate 70. A lot of low lying farms were under water. Some 2 lane State Routes were starting to cover over in water. Several residential streets were closed. Some places have it a lot worse than us.
Today's news seems pretty upbeat.
Brutus is on the mend as is John, though it sounds like they are getting too frisky. All Jim's options are open and all are good. RT is close to landing the big one, though I don't envy his prospect of a move. Mitch's posts and web link (works now) indicates he's winning the construction and hiring wars, but I didn't see anything about trains in the school. Sir James is successfully slipping recovering wife's punches and getting those windows squared away. Brent's kitchen light reprieve continues in the afterglow of his b-day, must be some highly effective diversionary tactic he's using. Chief has found his true calling, daycare provider. And Fife dodged the housebreak, has taken a hiatus from the trains, is cleaning his guns, and needs a large dog that takes unkindly to incursions on his turf.
Hope all is well for everyone despite the spring water challenges. Buckeye said I-70 closed in Ohio?
Rain has stopped here but the rivers and streams are taxed. Pond 30 yards from my back door is full, been fortunate so far, but the ground is saturated and we usually get some heavy precipitation this time of year into May.
Afternoon from beautiful sunny Southern Ohio. It is really nice out. Just got up from my nightshift to dayshift recovery nap. I’m going to finish trimming some trees then work on a stack wall. Rehearsal for services starts at 5 p.m.
Fife- The fact someone is looking around is unsettling no doubt. The fact they found things locked probably sent him looking for easier hits.
Mitch- Typing is not my best skill either. As you all have seen, I make a lot of typos. The autocorrect and spell check keeps my stuff somewhat readable. Most of the time I write my post in WORD then copy and paste it over.
Roy- We’re paying 3.49 for regular and 4.09 for diesel. The truck would take a second mortgage to fill up! Starting to see prices of delivered goods going up like crazy.
Well the sunshine is calling
Later, and may God bless all of you on this Holy Thursday
Jim

Ditto on that, Chief - let Carter "Steer" while you drive -- he'll love it and it will be a really good memory for him.
Feet are up! Just got off the phone with Sir James 1 -- great call and really had a nice conversation! His wife is giving him some grief, so that is good too -- LOL! She must be feeling better! Doug, Sir James says to say Hi! You're working, so I won't call though. (I forgot, I was supposed to ask if you bought something the other day). Just got the kids to get dressed in day clothes and feed poor Chewy. This dog would starve if it wasn't for me! Wow, I need to check all my other websites and stuff, so I'll be back a little later. Brent, did you get that light put up for the Boss?
