I went to work earlier today (5:30 am) and saw the deer on the sidewalk as I drove up my street.

Last night was fun and involved as I hooked up the Lionel semaphore on my layout. A lot of wiring and a little confusion but I got it almost working by 11:00 pm.  So I didn't sleep real long last night, but I'm doing ok this morning.

But I need to get some work done.

Morning from a dark, wet and warm Chicago.  Tornado touched down a few miles from home last eve, shredded a semi. Still in the 50s.

Brutus, the one day I got to go to Disney, the park was just jammed. Just wandered around, went to the Haunted Mansion, climbed Swiss Family Robinson tree house. I'll have to ask the kids what was new.

Chuck, that's a heck of a wake-up. Moooo!

Got my first class of the quarter tonight. Two online ones started yesterday. I like them better - I can work them from home instead of getting off the train at 11 pm.

Finished the hydrocal kit. I plastered on a full wall Coke ad and a few others. Glued on, then wet down, rubbed with brush to weather into the cracks and nooks of the brickwork. Placed it near the main station. It looks suitably woeful with a sideful of brush and overturned boat along the wall.

Call away.

While you're at it, why not simply cease putting gratuitous and mean-spirited remarks about certain topics in your posts? It has gone well beyond good-natured kidding among athletic rivals. So, you stop, I will stop.

Give it a try. I think you'll be amazed at the results. Should you ever feel the least bit constrained, you can always vent your spleen on the Zealot/Caboose forum, and still "play nice" on this one. Many of your best friends are already posting in the Caboose, so you'd be right at home.

Deal?

NBC has exclusive rights to that.  I hear Lindsay Lohan might show up with 3 dates.  Maybe that will draw the viewers.  I will find out either today or tomorrow after I am already there what the poop is.

I used to enjoy posting on this forum. There was a sense of camraderie and good natured humor and kidding.

Over the past year, the good humor has faded and been replaced by some ugly sniping. To be honest, I don't enjoy reading this thread any more, much less post on it. I check in from time to time to see if things have improved. They haven't.

This is not directed at any one individual. I'm not mad at anyone, nor do I have any issues with anyone. But I'm disappointed in the overall tone of this thread. This is a hobby forum, for Pete's sake.

If my observations anger you, I apologize. Many have tried to maintain civil discourse in the midst of the fray. You're to be applauded. However, if you're using this forum to snipe, condemn, denigrate, or an any way verbally malign another, I have two words for you:

Grow up.

As the Title of This Thread States:

2008 and the Coffee Pot is still on and over 3 years. Here we gather as friends with trains.  Sweet ice tea too.

I wonder how many seem to forget.  I envision this thread as an "electronic" form of setting down with a cup of coffee, with some friends and having an amicable chat.  I may not agree with every "little" idea, thought, or feeling that is expressed.  Nevertheless it is still an opportunity enjoy friendly exchange.  I really hate for that to be jeopardized, which I feel is imminent.

I would like to suggest the following;

- If someone has REALLY gotten to YOU, why not respond via "Private email (PM)" which is available at the bottom of practically every post?  Then those of us that don't want to hear it, don't have to bothered with the tribble, and most probably "the issue" will likely end up being resolved anyway.

Taking an approach similiar to what I have suggested, does demand a little more character though, and may not end up in you getting the "Last" word.  Which is usually perceived as trite and trivial, and scoffed at.

Maybe, just maybe, we won't loose this thread, that CTT permits us to use.

I always pictured it as a coffee pot in the breakroom at my office, but there is a book sitting on the table, filled with posts throughout the year.  You go in, get your coffee, and make a post.  Either a simple hello fellas, or what you plan on doing today, or someone is sick, please pray for them, or how do you change the oil in a '69 Camaro...or something like that.  Sometimes it's even train related.  The pot is open to anyone, but like most break rooms, it seems that the same people tend to migrate there.  I really like this forum for that reason.  It gives me a chance to find out what's going in in other member's lives.  Sometimes though, someone takes all of the sugar without replacing it and people get mad.  It happens...as long as it doesn't get too carried away, it's fine.  The dynamics of the forum do change though, without a doubt.

Don, Dr. John,

I agree 100%  in the past, this has been a great place to come and chat with others in the hobby.  This trash that has taken root is spoiling the pot.  I hope those with issues will "take it outside" of this forum and deal with it directly.  This is not the place.  I am tired of reading posts that are only meant to put others down.  I have met some great people from this forum and they get pushed away to other places because the atmosphere has become hostile.  I hope it changes quickly.

Rich,
You and are kosher pal! Smile [:)] The regulars know that! What they are referring to is the exchange you ignored (or didn't read)...

All,
This situation has been addressed.  Nothing more need be said about it, as nothing more will come from me! Blindfold [X-)]

Don, Wes, Dr John, and all the other regulars:
The 'Pot' is that to me and more. Having moved from Pittsburgh to Baltimore 2.5 years ago and not knowing a soul, I searched for a place to call 'home' and found that here.  Everyone, for the most part, has been very welcoming and the sharing of interests (not just trains) really made me feel the comradarie I was looking for.  I've met many of you and have nothing but high regards for all!

Glad all that is settled !!!!  Now on to real stuff........

You guys may recall hearing the Chief talking about going to York, and as we know Roy will certainly be there. Well I got this invite....... (and I will not be attending this year.) But, apparently Roy or Chief not sure who, has made some travel arrangements, and they were trying to get additional people to sign up, to help defray the cost.    So I'm sure they will be contacting you as well, to trying a fill the available seats in the "Limo".    I guess they were going to try and get the guys out west first and head eastward.

Gentlemen, I seem to recall being summoned to this thread once before, although in a previous incarnation..................the thread, not me.

But, summoned I am, so I hope all parties can see their way through to getting this back on the rails and off the skids?

As a matter of practice, if you find that someone has posted a pointed comment, especially an unwelcome one that seems to be singling out one individual for the unwanted attention, each of you has the responsibility to act.  Ethically, as "citizens" here, it is incumbent upon each of you to look after one another.  Even if you haven't much positive regard for the person targeted, you should report the incident using the "Report Abuse" facility under each text box you see.

Dialogue is all well and good trying to sort out minor differences, but when those differences start to run away on you, take advantage of the help that the thoughtful forum software developers predicted would be of use to you.  They include the provision for off-line communications where you can privately say as much as you feel compelled to say.  How you say it is strictly your business in those private communications, but the rest of the membership will be spared, perhaps gratefully, from it.

The other thing you can do, quite positively, retaining our dignity, and acknowledging the other person civilly, is to merely withdraw from the discussion with words something like these:

"I do not agree with you, so it would be best if I merely withdraw from the discussion.  Thank-you for your civility and patience."  Don't those words indicate a strong measure of self-control, some personal dignity, and a principled stance on the matter without resorting to intemperate language?  No one gets offended, no one is hurt, and the matter is left for those who wish to continue to sort out as they wish.

Lastly, fellas, it's only a forum using electrons.  Look up from the keyboard and see what's going on in the real world around you.  That is where the serious side of your life ought to be.

All is ok. The steers have not returned. Owner came up and apologized and offered to pay damages. There were none. Maybe I should have asked for a couple of steaks. LOL

Dr. John....I ditto what Brent said. This place has improved in the last week or so. Maybe we need another Grits throwing contest to break the tension. LOL

Don B......That must be Western " public transportation ". Nice horse.

Good afternoon everyone,

It was a nice day here. I have a few tests to study for on Thursday, but otherwise, I should be good to go. My dad is leaving for Florida tomorrow afternoon, he's going to stay with my uncle who has an apartment on the ocean. I was there this summer, and it was very nice.

Chuck, you would have a supply of steak for a few years lol.

And ditto to what Brent said, this has been improving.

The on going saga continues...

I am now leaving for LA tomorrow for what I don't know.  Sounds like the big version of our show is now cancelled but a posibilty of a stripped down show.  We wait and see.

Until then I ran my CC Turbine today under Legacy.  Sorry NY I just don't see much improvement for Pullmor motors.  Thats OK though Pullmors were meant to run fast.  Still messing around with the layout some but Legacy has been my focus.

Take Care!

Afternoon all

Warm (72F) in southern Ohio.  Got the garage door installed, with only two trips back to the store.  The locks don't come with them anymore.  Most folks use garage door openers and don't need locks.  It may be a while before an opener, so a lock it is.  Sure wish the metal roofing would come in.

Dr. John, Don good words.  Like Chief says IGNORE IGNORE IGNORE.  I skip through the bickering and just read and respond to the good stuff.

Finnally received my Feb. CTT Read it this evening.  Heading to Church to take down decorations with some folks.

May God bless

Evening Friends,

Can't believe the weather this week. Today it was 67 and 62 yesterday. Supposed to be in the upper 50's all week. But they say a cold front coming thru next week.

Had to put down a deer yesterday at work. My first offical SWAT assingment. It was injured and couldn't walk. Looked like it's back leg was broke. He was a old timer too. His front was all white and I'd say going about 130lbs. Also looked like he started to get gan green in his hind quarters.

Anyway, I bought that Williams TCA set. Gave the guy 200 for it. The cars are in good shape and the engine looks alittle used but still around 90%. All the boxes are in good shape. Engine runs quite , I was told that they are noisy. I'm looking into putting a e-unit or board in it for direction. Since I'm updating I might even put sound in it, I have enough room in her. First things first I need to clean th train room. I can't even walk in there because of all the boxes from X-mas. Layout even got negleted. Looks like the cats had a good ol time on it.

Dinner time, Hope everyone is well see ya guys

Have you checked the radiator cap as the spring may be weak in the cap. Not sure what year your car is but the newer cars can overheat from a bad timing belt. If your car is newer than 1990 take it to the shop for repair. Also low oil level  or low transmission fluid on automatic transmissions on some cars will cause them to overheat, why it  happens is simple-the cooling system is overworked because of low oil level.  Check the front radiator grill & cooling fins, sometimes trash will build up in there not allowing air to flow over the radiator fins.

Afternoon all.  YANKEE breakfast. Disapprove [V]  Hashbrowns instead of grits.  Lots of complaints. No joke.  Even my Legislature Lady joined in.  She is originally from SE GA [between Savannah and Augusta].  Met with her and then had news interview with TV on Raleigh's DA Mayor on water restrictions.  He was propsoing a 25 gallon per person per day restriction our pay double water rates.  His City Council did not agree.  Couldn't take a shower and wash clothes in the same day.  Laugh [(-D]  TV and radio is full of citizens raising ----. I received an interesting train memorabilia present this year that I hung in the train room. It is an 8x11 picture frame with a collection of train U.S. postage stamps and train pins, matted. Hope you find your missing signs for your wall.

Manamanah,
WOW that sounds nice! I have 9 or so bins to go through to find the sign, of course it could be one of those 'Hey I have that sign'... but I really don't!  DOH!  Been there... done that!

I am trying to find a frame for the B&O EM-1 blueprint my wife bought me for X-Mas.  Paper is 35x11 with the picture being 33.5 x 9.5... so it looks like a matting job... Sigh [sigh]
