Good Thursday morning, everyone!  Gee, I almost don't know what to do, actually waking up early, for a change!

Coffee is ready, fresh orange juice, orange tangerine and apple juice are made, and in the cooler.

On the warmer bar, you will find:  turkey bacon, sausage, scrambled eggs, freshly made homemade buttermilk biscuits w/sausage gravy, oatmeal, grits, toast.  Also, in the cooler, is some cantaloupe slices.

Hope everyone had a good night's rest (those who didn't work overnight) and also hope everyone has a great morning.

Sandwiches are just fine. I will be back in a little while to enjoy one or two of them. I couldn't stand waiting for a slice of peach pie, so I had a nibble for an after school snack. Delicious!

Willy, how about open-face roast beef sandwiches w/mashed taters, beef gravy, cole slaw, and green beans.

Nighttrain, there's plenty of soup also for tonight, so please help yourself to the soup.  Have as much as you want.

And for dessert:  the pies that Willy2 requested can be found in the cooler just behind the counter.

Our AED's will say 'No Shock Advised, Begin CPR' if in Asystole.  When I train new LG's/conduct Pro CPR w/AED classes I always set the AED trainer to do that so the student must do CPR.  I've had to do that a couple of times.  Usually, IMHO, the layperson is the one who'll have the issue using one.

CW - For dinner, how about roast beef, potatoes and gravy, and which ever other sides you think would go well with that? For dessert, how about peach pie and cherry pie? That would be much appreciated.

Larry and Dan - Nice shots! Thanks for sharing. I haven't taken a train picture since my IL trip (been busy shooting at high school and college basketball games). I guess I should get out and get some...my PaD project is a week behind. Banged Head [banghead]

Congratulations Dan on saving a life. I took Red Cross CPR classes and learned about AEDs last year. I should probably schedule a class again sometime soon. I like to go at least once a year.

Colin, as one who has spent quite a bit of time on crutches (broke a femur, and tore a piece of bone from my pelvis where the sartorius attaches itself) I agree they are no fun. Best of luck in the healing process.

CW, since I haven't seen any lunch suggestions, how about some Reuben sandwiches with some potato chips and dill pickles?

Well, I have three city bids to type, so I must be on my way. Hope you all have a great day!

EDIT: Oooops...didn't see the menu suggestion. How about the reubens tomorrow, then?

Joe, you've selected the lunch menu for today:  grilled cheese sandwiches w/tomato soup, vegetable soup, cream of broccoli soup are all on the warmer bar. (Also will make BLTs for anyone who wants a couple or four.)

NOW, does anyone have any requests for supper tonight?  I'm in a very giving mood today, letting you all decide what you want to eat today.

The AED's are nice to have IF you really understand what they are to be used for.  An AED only works if there is a cardiac rthymn, and theoretically only discharges if it senses fibrillation.  The problem is that folks try to use them on persons who are in asystole (no heart beat) and the machine won't do anything.  Then, the responder fiddles around with the machine for long minutes on end thinking something is wrong with the machine when instead they should be doing CPR.

O.K.--end of rant.

Good Wednesday morning, everyone!  Well, I finally woke up.  Seems I'm getting pretty good at not waking up until 6:40, 6:45 lately.  We have a current temp of about 33 degrees, but with the little bit of snow we got this morning, there have been several accidents reported this morning.  Even saw some idiots on the news report, who went by red & blues (police), and kept driving like the roads were completely dry.

Mookie, having ear problems this morning?  Earrings giving you trouble?  That's why I've quit wearing earrings. Too much trouble some mornings, especially mornings like this, when my arthritis has my hands numb and aching.  They just don't want to work right.  I'm having to type veeeeeerry slowly this morning.

Coffee is ready, juice is made, and breakfast is on the warmer bar:  bacon, sausage, scrambled eggs, oatmeal, grits, hash browns, toast, biscuits andsausage gravy.

Does anyone have any requests for lunch today?  If so, please let me know.

Everyone have a great day, and take care.

Got a comment for anyone to tackle.  Heard from a source trackside yesterday that he saw 4 locomotives, bringing in a coal train - all facing backward.  I know they run either way and that facing forward is for the convenience of the crew, but has anyone else seen this?  They were coming into the yard from off the main line - from the east.  Do you suppose - well I will let you speculate as to why.

thanks for the info. after 30 years i would think we've come far, but it still amazes me every day. as said above they have saved over 100 people. those AEDs should be everywhere. johnny and roy would be proud. this forum rocks.

C60AC, as pointed out an AED is a defribillator.  Those of us that can use the manual version have to learn to read the display and make decisions based on what we see and interpret.  An AED does that analysis for you - in fact, most will talk you right through the process and even tell you that they won't shock if it's not appropriate.

If you're really interested in "Emergency, seasons One and Two are out on DVD.  While cutting edge at the time, medics in the field now can do just about everything they did without 'calling for orders.'  I enjoy watching for the gaffes - like changing vehicles in the middle of a response, or the same car pulling over on the same street three shows in a row....

That said, I had the opportunity to hear Randolph Mantooth (John Gage) speak at a conference.  Even he is amazed at the effect the show had on EMS in this country.

Last semester I learned CPR and how to use an AED in health class. I got my American Red Cross certification just a couple of weeks ago. Most of my classmates got their certifications too, but of course there were a few who just didn't care whether they got it or not and goofed off the whole time. There are always a few. Sigh [sigh]  Hopefully I'll never need to use those skills that I learned, but the day may come.

c60ac an AED is an Automated External Defibrillator.  It's the 'Plug 'n Zap' version of what most EMT/Paramedic units use.  Us Lifeguards use them cuz their easier to use.  Less chance of operator error.  I looked in the log today-save # 131 to date.

Well, I'm sure glad you all think that chili sounds good for tonight:  cause that is exactly what is on tonight's supper menu, along with cream of tomato soup, grilled cheese sandwiches, fries, and plenty of crackers (saltine & wheat) to go with them.

Joe, Mutt agrees with you, about broken parts telling the weather.  Just over four years ago, he broke his knee, and it lets him know EVERY time the weather is getting ready to change for the worse.

On the weather front, we're supposed to be having a very good possibility of getting some snow tonight (I think).  Haven't heard yet just how much , i.e., flurries, light snow showers, whatever.

Yep - Electricity saves lives.  Learn CPR and learn how to use an AED.  They are popping up everywhere.

I always have gloves and a CPR mask in a small pouch on my belt...

On a sad note - one of the "Santa's" we used on our Polar Express passed away this past weekend.  Little did we know, as he worked through the trains this past fall talking to the kids (and adults), that he was not long for this mortal coil.  He had cancer and was just 58.  We'll miss him.

And on a weather note - the lake effect machine is cranking up again.  Twenty MPH in near zero visibility on the way home tonight.

And the chili does sound good tonight.

Thanks for the five!  //fives back!

I was literally in front of the loco mere tens of feet away.  They were holding on a siding waiting for block clearance or something that the guy working the switch said.  I asked if they could turn the lights on for the shot and they obliged!  How nice!
