<p>The AED's are nice to have IF you really understand what they are to be used for. An AED only works if there is a cardiac rthymn, and theoretically only discharges if it senses fibrillation. The problem is that folks try to use them on persons who are in asystole (no heart beat) and the machine won't do anything. Then, the responder fiddles around with the machine for long minutes on end thinking something is wrong with the machine when instead they should be doing CPR. </p><p>O.K.--end of rant. </p>
