Went train watching today and saw eight trains in 1.5 hours. Not too bad for Omaha. Seven were on the UP and one was on the BNSF.

Sprinkles here and there all afternoon, but nothing to write home about so far. Looks like folks just south of Omaha stand the best chance of getting a good rain this time around.

Only three weeks until school starts! Where has the summer gone? Sad [:(] I don't dislike school, but I would be more than happy if summer would just last forever.

I actually wouldn't mind year round school. That would mean a consistent two months on, two weeks off pattern. In my opinion, that's better than just a day or two off here and there (with the exception of Christmas vacation) for nine months and then three months off. I think it would help kids stay focused better, but there would still be more than enough days off. Any other young person that I suggest this to thinks I'm nuts, but I see some very valid good points for year round school.

Looking forward to the Saturday Night Pizza Fest, CW.

Well, I'm not CW, but Willy you're just in time for the beginning of:

SATURDAY NIGHT PIZZA FEST!!!!

CW and Helper are out doing the weekly Diner grocery shopping, and haven't made it back in yet, so I'm getting ready to put the pizzas in the ovens. I just got off the phone

with our Gatorade supplier, he says he might not be able to supply as much "blue stuff" this week, because of the "Hot" temperatures and extremely high demand for it. So, Mudchicken; you may have to start alternating between the Original flavor and/or Lemon-Lime, instead of all "blue".

Okay, here's the list of Pizzas for tonight:

1.   Anchovie

2.   Extra Cheese

3.   Pepperoni

4.   Sausage

5.   Supreme

6.   Goetta

7.   Canadian Bacon

8.   Mushroom

9.   Chef's Special

First round should be out on the warmer bars by about 8:00 pm EDT

And as always, there are plenty of extras in the back staying warm.

Hello everyone!  Sarah and I finally made it back home! Before we went to the grocery, we went to the YMCA.  Sarah did her normal weight lifting, and the punching bags, and I went to the Wellness Center, and worked out on the Leg Press.  Had a nice instructor, who showed me how to work on the machine, without putting pressure on the knees.  Did pretty good, too.  I was very pleased with my workout, and didn't overdo.  I wanted to do some more, but was advised not to, so as not to put too much pressure on the knees.

Mutt, thank you so very much for fixing the pizzas and baking them tonight!!

Everyone have a good evening, and see you all tomorrow.

A couple of weeks back, when Joanie was feeling more limber, we were regularly going to the Y as well, and she was using this new aerobic machine that's kinda like a stair-stepper, only from a recumbent seated position.  Now that she's starting to feel better again, maybe we can get back at it.

We had a great day today, I spent about four hours roaming along the UP- got a few pictures of nothing special, will try to get them uploaded before the weekend is over.

Mutt: Say it ain't so! (As it is , next week is the west end of Moffat tunnel)...Green stuff doesn't go down as easy as the blue stuff.

Got some decent rain Friday nite, then not much since. Seems like more than just water has been falling from the sky in the last 24 hours.

Willy: (RE: that other forum thread) Last week, Empty junk train pulled up to my survey crew setting up GPS equipment...He was clearing the main for a fleet of coal loads...saw my gunner pull out a digital camera. Leaned out the cab window and asked if the photo would look better with the lights "on". Goes back in the cab and turns the lights on. We had a running conversation with the crew while they were in the hole. ( He now knows where the doubletrack is going and we got an idea of how nuts life on that subdivision has gotten)  Turned the lights back off after my gunner stopped taking pictures. The rest of that week he waved, flashed lights and whistled liberally for us every time he passed by.

And a good Sunday morning to everyone out there! I am serving breakfast this morning since I am the first one in the Diner. I've got the coffee brewing and I've mixed a fresh batch of orange juice from concentrate. Also, I've got two big jars of solar tea brewing out on the deck for those of you who would like ice tea this afternoon.

On the menue for breakfast this morning: blueberry pancakes with bacon, scrambled egs, pork sausage links and french toast.

I received a phone call from a very nice young lady in Louisville, Kentucky last night, and I will bet that Sarah and I spent at least two to three hours conversing with each other over the phone. It was almost 11:00 here when I let her go and went to bed. For some reason though I did not get much sleep. I got up this morning at 6:00 and had been awake since 4:00 am.

I hope everyone out there has a good day!

Good Sunday morning, everyone.  Ray, thank you so very  much, for fixing the coffee, juice and tea, and fixing breakfast!  It is very much appreciated, and I know I'll be leaving the Diner in good hands, when I go into the hospital.

Do I hear any requests for Sunday Dinner this afternoon?!  If so, PLEASE let me know!!

Ed, you want to come to KY, where's it is a tad bit dryer than Houston?!?!

Good morning. Foggy down here this morning. Went to sit trackside for a few hours this morning and got a neat fog shot (if I do say so myself). Anything will be alright with me for dinner, CW.

If Ed is getting soaked down there in Texas where he lives, he could come up here to either Nebraska or South Dakota. It has been real dry here in my state, we haven't had any measurable precipitation (RAIN) in the last several weeks. My yard has turned brown because I never water it, and I told the couple who take care of my yard to skip mowing it for another month. Currently, we have a temperature in Sioux Falls of about 62 degrees, and it is supposed to get up to about 87, maybe 90 degrees later this afternoon. We did have a cold front come through this region this past Thursday and it did help cut some of the high humidity, so the air here has been much more comfortable. And when we will finally get some rain, only God knows.

Ray - Some people in Nebraska don't want anymore rain for now. Areas around Grand Island measured anywhere from three to eight inches of rain last night. Those heavy amounts weren't super widespread, but several counties were under flood and flash flood warnings. Here in Omaha - on the other hand - we only got two tenths of an inch. Typical crazy summer weather pattern.

Mudchicken - Nice to hear about the friendly engineer. My personal opinion is that most crew members are friendly, but others in this forum obviously do not share that opinion.

Well, a busy couple of days on the railroad.  Plenty of passengers and things went well.  Found a new calling - making cap badges for our people.  Got the chemical engraving kit from a well known model supplier and the demand is starting to outstrip my ability to turn them out.  Folks will just have to wait.

On top of that, on the way home tonight I ran smack dab into a possible heart attack, getting there about 10 minutes before the ambulance.  He was still alive when they got him to the hospital, so we must have done something right.

A little late for supper, so I'll rummage around for a good bedtime snack.

The Dalmatian is informing me that it's bedtime.  Better go!

....Boy, Larry....sounds like you were in the right place today.

Coming out of church this morning and on our way home, 4 lane streets....Just outside of Muncie city limits, we were about 2 cars away from a pretty serious accident.

I was on inside lane headed south, and stopped waiting for the light and 2 lanes of traffic coming towards us and a fellow in a pickup wanting to turn to his left...{across 2 lanes of traffic}, and they made an opening for him but the outside south bound lane {which had been empty}, all of a sudden contained a south bound car....driving much too fast and T-boned him to the point of almost upsetting the pickup truck.  The young person in the car {driving much too fast}, slammed right into the truck and the impact turned his car around and the front end was smashed in with liquids running out, etc....

After a moment the kid exited the at least 10 year old Chevy and holding his arm but seemingly not seriously injured.  As we worked past the car I could see the airbag had deployed and probably saved him some more serious injuries.

Truck should not have tried to make a left turn thru stopped traffic there as such and the young man was driving way too fast for the location.

Good Monday morning! Finally was able to get in the front door here, and make it to the Diner!  Kept getting a message "No longer exists" or some such nonsense.  The must have been doing maintenance very, very early!!

Coffee just finished brewing, and I've made fresh oj, oj/tangerine, pineapple, and apple juice for this morning.  On the warmer bar, you'll find all the regular breakfast items, including some fresh fruit:  cantaloupe, watermelon, pineapple, papaya, etc., so help yourselves!

Since things were so slow in here yesterday, last night, there are plenty of leftovers for lunch today.  Which is a good thing, because I'll be busy doing laundry, and possibly get the weed/grass trimmer out, and work on our front yard; hopefully, getting everything done before it get unbearably hot this afternoon.

Joe, Lets hope the "tanker driver" has a larger supply of the "blue stuff" than I was told we could expect. (check my Sat. Pizza Fest post)

Cannonball, at least you're doing P.M. on the Rattler, instead of waiting for it to break. Thumbs Up [tup]

Okay, Mookie must really be swamped with work this morning, since no one has seen her around this morning.

On the warmer bar for lunch:  leftover country fried chicken and country fried steaks w/all the trimmings, pork chop abracadbra, and there's even some cold leftover pizza from Saturday night.  Everything has been warmed up, so sidle on over to the warmer bar, grab a plate or two, and "fill-er up"!!

I've also replenished the iced tea, and lemonade, so we should be all set for cold beverages this afternoon.  Want everyone to stay well hydrated!!!!

Everyone have a good afternoon, and if you have to venture out (especially the ones who work outdoors), take very good care of yourself, and make sure you've got plenty of fluids with you.

Hey CW I 'found' this truck of Blue Stuff near the bottling plant here in Oshkosh and thought a certain Chicken could use some.  The keys are in the ignition and the spigot on the bottom works well.  I think it can even be cooled.  I'll have to go find some more for when this one runs dry.

I'll grab a plate of whatever's for lunch and keep on movin'!  Busy, busy Monday.
