Mookie, I was holding the chair for you; but I don't know if you ever got Dan, or whomever you were going after!!  Who did you get?!?!  Now, who else can we pick on today?  Hmm, where's Kevin at lately?!?!  Haven't seen him around for quite awhile.  Wonder if he just got tired of all of us, and decided to leave the forums.

Lunch is now ready on the food bar:  tuna salad sandwiches, BLTs, cold roast beef sandwiches, ham & cheese, bologna & cheese, pimento sandwiches, PB, & PB&J sandwiches, and there are a variety of different flavor chips on the counter.  Everyone help yourselves, and have a good afternoon.

Walked over to the store, two blocks west of us about an hour ago, and you can feel the humidity a little bit.  But the temp isn't bad at all:  83 degrees at noon.  Our high today is to be 85, with only a 20% chance of late afternoon, early evening rain showers/t-showers/storms.  Tomorrow's 40% chance, and about 60% chance Saturday.

It's been quite an interesting day/afternoon here in the Diner!!

Think I'll behave myself tonight, and just say that supper is on the warmer bar:  beef stew w/cornbread and garden salad.  Dessert tonight:  chocolate cake and chocolate brownies w/ice cream.

LC, could I interest you in fixing some smoked salmon for our FRIDAY FISH FRY?!?!

Good Thursday morning, all!  A nice morning here, although showers/storms may be in later on this afternoon.

Coffee is ready, as well as freshly made juices, iced tea and lemonade.

On the warmer bar, you all will find:  turkey bacon, sausage patties, homemade buttermilk biscuits, sausage gravy, scrambled eggs, fresh sliced tomatoes, and there's some raisin & spice oatmeal this morning.

Anyone hear this morning about the home in the rich section of Cincinnati, called Indian Hills?  A $3 million dollar home totally destroyed by fire.  Sure do hope they had enough homeowner's insurance.  I know even people with plenty of $$$$$ are sometimes underinsured.  They said the home was originally owned by members of the Kroger family.

Mookie, I've got your big coffee mug ready and waiting for you!!

Thanx CW - been out prowling the forum, so need a pick-me-up.

LC - will take the salmon, thank you.  Did you see the big squid that is suddenly up north instead of Mexico and points south, where it should be?  Even I have to draw the line on certain fish.  Ack...  and does anyone really ever eat oysters?  (gag)

CW - we have had 3 major fires here in the last couple of weeks.  I am not sure if it is the season, weather or just coincidence.  Had another big one last nite and you are right - so many of the more expensive homes are really under-insured.  Maybe Tree will contribute to this one.  Maybe he has some knowledge.

Take cover Brian, cuz we are getting a rain forecast which means, it will completely miss us and move over into Iowa.

I know the Chicken is roasting, but wonder if he is surviving?  We haven't had the tank of Gatorade moved in awhile......

Think I will splurge and have a blueberry beagle with my coffee!  Dinner [dinner]

....Finally, we did get a bit of rain....Not from the west flow, but it came down from the Great Lakes area....{north to us}, and deposited 3/4" yesterday afternoon and evening....Nice slow rain.  But, much more is needed.  Now we have humidity.  So windows stay closed.

NWS is forecasting over an inch of rain for Cedar Rapids tonight/tomorrow, so keep that umbrella ready!

Naturally, it appears that Omaha may get nothing, which really shouldn't disappoint me anymore since that is just what happens this year and I should get used to it already.

Hope everyone has a good day!

I'm not sure that we'll make it up to the predicted high of 86 today.  Went to Kroger this morning, and they skies are very cloudy, looks like we may get some rain anytime.

Yeah, Mookie, hopefully Larry and our other firefighter friends here can add some insight for us.  Meanwhile, I'll try to see if I can find anything else on that fire in Cincy last night.

For lunch today, I've warmed up the beef stew left from supper last night, and fixed a fresh batch of cornbread.  Also on the menu today:  tuna melt casserole, vegetable beef soup, fresh corn on the cob (both yellow and Silver Queen white sweet corn), broccoli, and brussels sprouts.    Believe I have fixed enough of everything (minus the beef stew), that there should be enough for supper tonight, also.

....J....My wife, Jean totally agrees with you.  According to her, there is not enough crackers in the world to allow her to eat any raw oysters.

Hot weather = Air Conditioning = potentially overloaded circuits.

Add to that the lightweight construction they are using these days and you have a pile of kindling ready to go up at a moments notice.  We're going to be saving less and less structures as a result.  Some may point a finger at the fire departments, but the real blame rests on those who seek to erect structures that just barely meet codes, which themselves are under assault as the construction industry seeks to lower their costs.

Better get off the soapbox before I really get wound up.

....Larry:  What do you think of so many builders now {and for some time now}, creating these mammoth condo and apartment structures with a common open attic.....To me, this seems like a big hole in the fire codes that simply opens the "door" for trouble.

I note everytime down in Indianapolis one of those kinds of structures catches fire, it races from one end to the other and the building is a total loss before it can be stopped, plus the tennents loose everything they have in many cases.  I thought codes required fire walls every so far in these large structures but it sure appears not...

Here in Muncie, we have some of the largest {almost brand new}, structures and it appears they have no firewalls of anykind.

Larry, thanks for the info!  And you can get on your soapbox, any time you want;  the builders, contractors, etc., NEED to make sure they do everything they can, to build better homes, that meet all the safety codes!!

Now, for our supper menu tonight:

Tuna melt casserole, beef noodles casserole, corn on the cob, broccoli, brussels sprouts, corn on the cob, baked potatoes and garden salad.

Desserts tonight:  chocolate cake, brownies, apple, peach and cherry cobblers w/ice cream.

Joe and Lance, as usual, there are containers made and in the fridge, for you all to take to work tonight.

Cw

thanks for supper tonight.I have been catching up on chores and zzz's.

larry I see these apartments go up or old structures too.like the wauseon fire if a building owner didn't put up the fire wall improvement the total block in wauseon would have gone up during the fire.as for trains matt and I have been reading since we got it today.

stay safe
