I'm gonna go crank the Aux Power Unit on that tanker for Sir Chicken as I hear he likes cold Gatorade.

Joe and Lance, I've got containers made for you two, for work tonight.    That finished up the leftovers I had heated for lunch today.  So you two have a good assortment for your lunch tonight.

Now, for supper tonight, is the following:

1.  BLTs w/chips or fries
2.  Tuna salad sandwiches w/chips or fries
3.  Turkey and cheese sandwiches w/chips or fries
4.  A combination of the first three above.

Anybody notice a theme here, tonight?  (It's so hot an muggy here, that I do not want to do a whole lot of cooking.)

You all have a good evening, stay cool and be careful!!

Good Tuesday morning to one and all!  Going to be another 3H day today:  hazy, hot and humid!!  So I'm hoping and praying that the Produce Truck comes EARLY so we can all get back indoors, and not be out in the heat & humidity!!

Ed, I like your answer to mudchicken's question!  Wish I had thought of it!!

Coffee has just finished brewing, and there's freshly made iced tea, lemonade and oj, getting nice and cold in the fridge.

On the breakfast bar this morning:  BLTs, sausage patties and homemade buttermilk biscuits (think I put a couple of patties in a couple of biscuits for my breakfast), cantaloupe and watermelon chunks, and fresh pineapple chunks.

Got to start getting ready to go to Produce, so you all have a good morning, take care, and I'll see you all later this morning.

Hmmm - interesting morning.  Got an e-mail from someone that checks out the diner occasionally.  They think it is silly.  I think that says something about them -  for even reading it in the first place...but hey - what do I know?

Dan - have a slightly stiff neck.  Think I should do some exercises for it or take a nap?  (Dan says take a nap.  I heard him very clearly)

Tree - are you both ALS and BLS?  Is it mandatory training for all volunteer personnel?  I always hear our dept saying that they need to send another engine, because they are only BLS.

CW - I lugged in a lug of bing cherries.  I love them in the summer and will probably put a big dent in them by noon.  They are soooooo good....

Is our resident chicken done in Newbrasky?

We should pack some straws to send to Houston Ed and family.  NO NO NO - to breathe underwater, not sip the water!!!!

Brian can keep his boots in the closet for a few days.  Not enough energy to move too much.

Oh yes - update on house beautiful.  Landlord has completed the front yard.  We have the new great wall of China in the front, green grass (as opposed to brown stubble in years past) a white picket fence (eat your hearts out!) and new brown shutters on our perma-stone duplex - and yes it is real perma-stone, not just veneer.  Garage has been scoured (vine leavings) and repainted and the door jams repaired ( no! Mookie did not run into the doors!)  Mookie just puts it in neutral and coasts with her eyes closed!  Stops when it sounds expensive....

Neighbors are quiet and we are just one big happy!  Even the squirrels come running when you rattle a peanut.  I imagine they will be getting a bath from the landlord so they look nice a clean for our new premises!  Maybe he will build new nests for them for winter?

Joe - you can have my hammock to rest - I really do need a fork lift for my desk.  Starting to get really busy until after Xmas....

I owe, I owe - off to work I go.....

....High and dry, still, here at Muncie....and now, it is to get warmer, much warmer for all this week.  90's.  And adding humidity.  Starting with 66 degrees at 7 this morning.

Misc:  Dave Letterman is finally to get his name in "Lights" here at our university...Ball State Un.  New Media and Communication building will be named for him as announced by Pres. Jo Ann Gora yesterday along with Dave's Mother here with a news conference.

Dave went to Ball State I'm sure most who watch him at all have heard him going on and on about it.

Personally, I think it's about time.  We actually have an "alley" named Dave's Alley in downtown Muncie....Think it was about half a joke, as Dave has joked about getting his name on Ball State someplace for  years.

We will hit the interstate to check out the home territory Thursday and for an extended weekend and so on....One thing on the agenda wil be the dedication of a little local {rebuilt}, B&O train station....now located at their Lions / Legion grounds.  It is very nice.  Work done by Amish carpenters.  It is furnished with period items inside.

I remember being in it in the late 30's and the OP sitting at his telegraph equipment, etc....A coal hauling branch.  And it's still there.

Hi all-

Busy times for us these days, house guest, errands, travel, chores, more chores.  Summer is slipping by too fast.  Haven't had time to do more than sneak in, grab a cup of coffee and check the bulletin board.

If you happened to catch yesterday's News Wire, you saw the Obituary for Doug Hagestad.  Doug was a fellow employee and friend at the Illinois Central.  Most recently, I would often see him at the "Sandhouse Gang" meetings at the Northwestern University Transportation Center.  I and many of my former co-workers were with Doug's family at his funeral yesterday.  A great guy leaving us way too soon.

Of course, life goes on for the rest of us.  Sounds to me like Ed could use chest high waders and maybe a nice speed boat to get around the yard.  Looks like you have taken care of the fluid needs for MC.  At least he won't have to worry about high water on his current job.  Or if he does, then we are all in trouble.

Quentin-I assume Letterman made a hefty contribution to get his name on the building.  I recall that he suggested that Indianapolis name the freeway loop around the city after him.  Now if he had paid for all the recent work...

Got to run.  Uncle Sam is looking for some money from the business today.  He gets pretty testy if we don't get the tax withholdings to him on time.

....Jeaton:

I believe Dave has contributed {and on the quiet}, over the years to "his University".  I know he blabs and jokes about these things a lot, and there for a while he was really going on about the Indy Loop, but in my opinion, it was all part of his sillyness, sly off the wall blatherings that is part of what Dave does.

On the current situation of naming the Communtication / media building after him....I'd say it might even embarrass him a bit...I really don't think that is his thing to "brag".  I'd say, behind the scene he has given very generously to the University.  I believe he is a very priviate person, as was Johnny Carson.

Dan and Mookie, a nap sounds very, very appealing right now!  We 'only' had 78 people show up for PRODUCE TUESDAY this morning.  On the list today:  ears of corn, tomatoes, romaine lettuce, chocolate milk, vegetable trays w/dip, and watermelons.  But with that many people, you had a choice of chocolate milk, veggie tray, or watermelon.  I took the veggie tray.

So, for lunch today, we have the veggie tray (broccoli, cauliflower, carrots, celery and cherry tomatoes), burgers, hot dogs, beef barbeque, and your choice of fries, onion rings or chips,open-face roast beef sandwiches w/mashed taters & gravy, or open-face turkey sandwiches w/mashed taters and gravy.

Mookie:  if I could get to Nebraska, I'd offer to help you with your backlog of work!!

You all keep as cool as possible today, and see you after awhile.

CW - I finally had to resort to the "shut the door" option.  It was heavenly in here.  I could add up a column of figures, write receipts and balance all the books - and no one interrupted me!

It is the "need to hand you" everything for processing I find so irksome.  We have a runner and she would pick it up gladly and hand them all to me at once.  But they don't use her.  They have to have the personal touch!

Anyway - got the $$$ counted and safely put away.

I did hear from Joe - he had to work OT and then corral Matt, so will be unavailable for awhile.  I swear I don't know when that young man sleeps - Joe, not Matt.....  He must run on Sir Chicken's Gatorade!

Grabbing a banana and off to sit in the peace and quiet of the garden.  If anyone wishes to join me, wear your slippers so you don't make any noise and please do so....

Moo....

....J....That doesn't surprise me of Johnny being supportive of his University.  I believe he was a very private person too and surprisingly shy....

I am a person that would think he treated folks and such as the University...that were good to him on "the way up" and remembered them as he was at the top.

Seems hard to believe he's gone.  He had unusual timing and talent....and occasionally it really would shine.  Some of the stuff he did on his show was super hilarious.  And not down in the gutter to do it.

Well, right now, at 5:40 p.m., our temp is 90, and I'm not sure what the humidity index is, exactly, but it is HOT, and no rain in sight until at least sometime over the weekend, or the beginning of next week, if I remember the forecast correctly.

I have supper on the warmer bar:  tacos, enchiladas, burritos, quasadillas, etc.  Have chopped up plenty of lettuce, tomatoes, and have plenty of salsa, picante sauce, and con queso.

You all  enjoy your MEXICAN FIESTA, and keep as cool as possible tonight.

Well - first day of testing of a new system I'm installing, and all is going well.

Got a lot to do here at the house, so I'll grab some supper and run.  Can eat between printing tickets (if I keep my fingers clean - don't need fingerprints on them!).

Good Wednesday morning, all!  Coffee has just finished brewing, and there's freshly made orange juice, iced tea, lemonade, and orange/tangerine juice in the cooler and fridge (made sure I made plenty of everything this morning).

You will find an assortment of breakfast items on the breakfast bar/warmer bar.

Think I'll take my coffee and a couple of biscuit/sausage 'sandwiches' out to the garden, and enjoy Mother Nature, until others start coming in this morning.

Ah - an interesting morning.  We have had continual moisture in the form of humidity here lately.  It did tinkle again a little.  Tinkle is a little more than we usually get - August usually very hot and very dry.

Tree - I will take one of those tickets.  Maybe I can use it to slip into a topic on the forum.  ?

It is getting to be kolache time in the area.  Anyone know or not know what a kolache is?  Bet most of you have eaten one at one time or another.  Prune and apricot are my favorites.  Right along with a bratwurst and light on the sauerkraut!  Drool....We have a Czech festival coming up very soon.  I used to love to go, but can't tolerate the heat any more and it always seems to be the hottest time of the year.  Guess that is better than frozen....

Going to go dig in the garden and then rest with CW.  Pretty taxing........

Q - trust me on this - the Czech menu is a whole lot more appealing than the (shudder) oyster platter.....I am not sure it is regional - since I have a mental image of oyster eating being right up there with goldfish swallowing.  (and I will even eat and enjoy pickled herring....)  Smile [:)]

Since Cedar Rapids has a part of town that is known as Czech Village, I have tasted "authentic" kolaches!
