Thanks.  Don't mind if I do!  Must be a lull in the fireworks.  I'll give it a minute.

Everyone must be riveted to the news channels right now, as I am.  I've been over that bridge MANY times.

Been watching the news of the bridge disaster in Mn.  Can't help but to akin this one to

one that happened  Dec. 15th, 1967; The Silver Bridge going from Pt. Plesant, Wv. to Kanauga,

Oh. over the Ohio River Collapsed killing 46 people.  The ongoing one is on I-35W, the one in

Wv., Oh., was on U.S. 35. The last I heard/saw was that 7 persons had perished, lets hope

that there aren't any more. That's 7 too many for something that should not have happened.

Thoughts and prayers go to ALL concerned.

Pretty scary situation up there in MN.

Morning everyone.  Donuts, bagels/cream cheese, juice, and coffee are up.  Mook your mug is freshly topped off and waiting for you.  I told it to sit and stay.  Let me know if it moves!

Thanx Dan - it stayed and sat.  Just about the right temp too.

I watched the national news at usual time - nothing on bridge - must have happened right after the news was over.  Caught it on Nancy Grace instead.  Anyway paper here sez 7 - radio sez 9 killed.  For having the fastest communication in the history of the world in 2007, our local news and papers are always behind or non-existant.  They don't report on 1/100th of the things I hear that I think are newsworthy on my scanner.  Or...which is even worse....what I get from the Omaha News.

Best have another cup of coffee - going to look into the rest of the forum and figure I will need fortification.

Joe - send a little "Matt time" - time when life isn't so complex.

Good Thursday morning, everyone. Dan, thank you so much for putting the coffee on, etc., and bringing in the doughnuts and bagels!  Think I'll grab one of the chocolate cream filled long johns, and head out to the garden for a few minutes.  Still early enough, that it should still be cool out there.  If anyone wants, they're welcome to join me in the garden.  How about  it, Mookie, and anyone else.

So very sad for all those people up in Minnesota.  I'm very glad people got the childen off the school bus.  It makes you wonder about all bridges, if they are as safe as they're supposed to be, etc.

My prayers are with all those in Minnesota who were affected by that bridge collapse.

We have this one bridge across the Missouri River here in Omaha that has been around for a long time. Sometime last year they banned all trucks exceeding a certain weight limit from crossing the bridge due to the fact that the bridge is weakening. Regular automobiles are still allowed across it, but I'm always a bit nervous when I start going across. I guess the Minnesota bridge gives me an even better reason to be nervous.

The rain missed us last night so now it's just warm and humid again. UP is doing some track work in Omaha so I think I'll go look at that before it gets too hot out.

I'm looking forward to school, but not like I look forward to summer vacation or something like that. I never really want summer to end, but once school starts I get into it and enjoy it quite a bit. I always like learning new stuff, even if it is math.

Good for you!!!! I'm glad that you enjoy learning new things.A mind is a terrible thing to waste.Keep learning and reading books!!!Smile [:)]Thumbs Up [tup]

Here's the lunch menu for today:  leftover chicken and dumplings, and leftover pork chop abracadbra, along with BLTs, grilled cheese sandwiches, choice of fries or onion rings, and there's plenty of birthday cake left for dessert.  (This time of year, I'm gonna have to stop making full size sheet cakes!)

You all stay as cool as possible this afternoon.  We're going to do the same here in Louisville.  Heard that our heat index just may make it up to 100 (double yuck).

Fact for the day:

Apparently some people are so crabby at the world that they can only achieve happiness by being rude about what makes others happy.  How sad.

Sheesh - been busy so haven't been able to get in.  Might be able to sneak in for dinner a few times next week.

CP - Just make sure you share the apple pie.

Nice and clear here all night, but a rogue thunderstorm raised cain over the southern part of the county - fire departments are out chasing the usual gamut of trees down and stuff.  I'm only up because a nice little old lady fell on her way to the bathroom and couldn't get up by herself, so she used her nice new emergency call button.

It's too early for breakfast, so I'm gonna go nap for a bit...

Wake up Tree.  Seems we have a range war.

I posted an answer, but the people in the lofty positions that don't wish to read the diner, but still seem to be able to comment on it, probably will just pass it off as more nonsense from a diner patron.

Maybe some of them wouldn't be so snotty about things if they took the time to actually try to see someone else's point of view.

Good Friday morning, everyone.  Murph, Sign - Welcome [#welcome] to the Diner!!  And, you don't have to just 'hide' in here:  you are more than welcome to come in, any time you want!!  In here, we allow everybody to talk about whatever they want, and no one judges you, if your opinion doesn't agree with someone else!!  We're all nice in here!!

And yes, Ray, SHARE THE PIE with anyone who wants a slice or two.  We have plenty of pies, so be a good boy, and share!Wink [;)]

What on earth is going on, elsewhere, that is peeving everybody off?!?!  There are some threads I don't even bother looking at, because I know it'll upset me to no end.

Mookie, in my opinion, those who don't read the Diner, are people who think their opinions and views are much superior to ours; so they don't want to associate with us.  To me, that's just their tough luck!!  We have great people in here, who have knowledge, and don't look down on us who don't have as much knowledge as themselves!!  Okay, getting off my SoapBox [soapbox] now.

Coffee, iced tea and lemonade are ready to go this morning!!  Brought in all kinds of doughnuts and danish this morning for breakfast.  Too hot and muggy this morning, to be doing a whole lot of cooking.  I'll save my energy for our FRIDAY FISH FRY later!!

If anyone wants to leave the AC in here, you are more than welcome to join me out in the garden, before it gets too warm out there!!

Seems like some residents of glass houses are throwing stones.  If Bergie were to establish a rule allowing only serious posts, I'd say that Trains.com could probably save about 92.5% of the system storage used for the forum.  I figure my number would be about98.5% useless and the other 1.5% left just by accident.

One thing about the DD&CS is that it is a place for the odds & ends.  Today my camera and I are going to brave 90 degree heat and see if we can catch some good train action.  If I get a good shot or two, I might want to post something on the forum.  Does it make any sense to start a new thread to post a couple that are likely to be pretty much run of the mill?

Actually Jay, one person that comes to mind has actually thrown a boulder. Too bad it got off the catapult and didn't fall back on his "glass house"!

Have fun with the camera today, be careful and don't "melt" in this heat and humidity.

As a matter of fact, take some of the Diner's Gatorade with you, to stay hydrated.

(I'm sure the chicken will share)

Will be looking forward to seeing your pictures.

Hi to you all:  Well, due to various things going on in our life, Bob and I haven't been on the forums or reading much, however, I think we are back===we always have enjoyed reading the diner plus of course, all of the other ones on trains, etc.  I am a little surprised that we have some "unhappy people" , but so it goes.  I am almost afraid that I will offend someone, but Bob and I are from AZ and for those who might remember us from the past I am Bob's personal secretary as well as his wife because Bob is blind and is unable to write messages or read them, but he really enjoys hearing them.  I changed my forum name, but just wanted to say hi to everyone .  We think this is a relaxing place to post and we appreciate all of the messages. CW and Locomutt  have kept us updated .  I hope that now I have not upset anyone by this message from AZ!  Granny 74(formerly nance 63)

Mookie, I too have noticed that the other forums all have a coffee shop. And they do offter interesting reading, just like our DD/CS.  And I too, have a pain.  Maybe it'll go away permentenly.  (And I'm not talking about the pain in my knees, either, which is getting much worse, with all the humidity!!)

Now, onto our 'imaginary' Friday menu:  FRIDAY FISH FRY is now underway.  All the normal menu items are on the warmer bar, and we have loads and loads of different pies for dessert.  Also, I've replenished the iced tea and lemonade for the afternoon.

Hopefully, I can once again enjoy going train watching, maybe sometime around Thanksgiving.  I truly miss walking three blocks west to the tracks, and seeing the trains going by.  Come on, September 17th!!

I am a co-aministrator on a photography website, and we have a "Coffee Shop" in our forum as well, so everyone can discuss the different issues.  It really works out pretty well.  I don't see any problem with having a thread like this. I have read it a few times, but never posted.
